To address your point though, our defence is not as bad as the results so far this season. We have just had a run of bad luck.
However i will still point out the lack of a clear leader at the back.

But then again they might not be as good as you think they are. First of all we don't have a regular CB partnership. Central defence is all about partnerships. It is hard to find a great defence that did not involve a regular pairing e.g Baresi/Costacurta, Adams/Bould, Bruce/Pallister, Rio/Vidic, Terry/Carvalho.

The understanding between the players is almost as important as the individual quality of each player. However we keep changing our defence after every single bad game or mistake.


Your point about the midfield is valid though. Our midfield seems to run an escort service sometimes and if you are short 2 or even 1 in terms of defensive application or discipline then you will struggle.

Yeah we need that partnership asap. I believe with what is happening now Woodward would be forced to bring out huge sum this January or we will be left behind by other top teams. He knows that now

First of all it is 2 out of 5 (compared to the previous Liverpool), and it is the 2 most important positions i.e GK and CB.

What have Bailly, De Gea and Smalling got to do with how Liverpool's defence has improved from past seasons?

Did Liverpool buy or sell any those players cos i don't understand how comparing the United players answers you original question which was "what has changed to make Liverpool's defence better".

The answer to that question is the acquisition of much better players than they had before in the 2 key defensive positions. It has nothing to do with United.

So we are explaining to you what has changed at Liverpool. The midfield has not really changed much. The major changes are at GK (where they have a solid GK rather than the comedians they had before) and at CB where they have a leader who is composed and dominant in the air.

My intention was to compare both back 4 with keeper and see how they come out against each other.

Only because of recent results will anybody say Robertson Arnold and Gomez are better than what we have here at United. Now I'm wondering why VD that's the only one better than any defender we have, the game changer. That's one out of 5. Well if you say the other ones are better than what we have then I will be forced to agree. Because I am trying to wrap my head around how one person out of 5 will make that kind of difference. Messi, Ronaldo and Co still need very good players around them to deliver.

The only reason why Bailly is no more rated is because our midfield prefers to withdraw instead of marking and are slow to react. Now VD is miles ahead of Bailly and we're now saying that Gomez Arnold and Robertson are miles ahead of Shaw Valencia and Jones. Lol. It's okay

Liverpool has had this fighting midfield for years, what they didn't have was a composed and dominant midfielder and a top notch goalk keeper.

Instead they had Mignolet and Judas isKarius stinking up the joint. The major change between the wack Liverpool defence and this more solid defence is Allison and Van Dijk NOT the midfield.

What do they have that we don't have?

The game changers are Van Dijk and Allison. The midfield has been pressing since Klopp got there.

Van Dijk and Allison changed the game, the pressing midfield is just jara.

For VD and Allison we have Bailly and De Gea. But what do we not have? A midfield that fight for every ball and charge opponents instead of withdrawing and inviting problems which can cause errors from defenders

Our only advantage is at GK and Allison himself is no slouch. Van Dijk is a huge upgrade on our CBs, i will take Alexander-Arnold over Valencia who gets slower by the day and never had good crossing technique anyway and even though Shaw has more talent than Robertson he is never fit.

Then you add a Liverpool midfield which presses continuously and serves as a buffer for the defence. They don't have slow or defensively ill-disciplined players in midfield.

This for me is the game changer here. Not Arnold or Robertson or Gomez who until last season or so were unknown

We only come out top on paper. Van dijk is better than all of our CB. Arnold offers way more defensively and offensively than Valencia. The only place we have edge over them is GK and they have a very good GK in Allison.

I'm not talking about what they're offering now but what they ought to offer when placed side by side

People do not realize magnitude of the defect in the Liverpool side over the last few years with useless keepers and equally useless defenders.

At this stage, this club is not stable enough to have players with big egos in the team, it needs warriors. Players that will take responsibility for results and look out for others. Pogba hasn't shown to be any of this. He will most likely give the next coach problem
