I feel the problem is inadequate players to compete for that role.

Luke shaw started playing like a beast when it looked like Malacia will dethrone him.
Wan Bissaka and Dalot are both fighting for their lives in their position...
Aside those positions, no other position has good players competing for it.
Your brother sancho is nowhere to be found, we could have tried him grin cheesy 🏃‍♂️🏃‍♂️
Sancho has been tried many times. He is not a new signing.

Rashford has been tried and trusted in a counter football where he plays on the shoulder of the last defender. But the mandate for ETH is to build a team while improving the quality of our football. This is not some quick fix something. Its a gradual process. This is the second season, how far have we gone with this? But if I'm wrong and ETH just wants to win something anyhow anyhow, then while he may win something, he will end up sacked and the next coach will start from zero.

ETH is good but e get where e good reach. Some in-game decisions he make are suspect. And this usage of Rashford is crap.

Salah, Saka, Graelish and other wingers in top teams were not given preferential treatment. They all work hard and create chances for their teammates. And guess what, this doesn't impede their decisions making or mar their performance.

ETH has to give himself brain. Giving preferential treatment to certain players harms team harmony when those players start misbehaving.
I used to think coaches and players analyze their performance after every game, especially when everything goes wrong. But I doubt ETH does this. Many times last season, those players and coach will offer apologies and whatever after a bad game only for them to do the very same thing the next game. You wonder if they actually look at their performances collectively as a team and individually

Well let's see how he progresses from here.
That being said, our last match's performance was way better than previous games this season. ETH should continue tweaking his team.
We wait cool.
LOL slave running around, while King Rashford strolls around. Even when we had JSP, Fletcher and co doing this, you can see the work rate from the rest of the team.

It may even work if we had a good functioning team. We don't have that yet and we expect everyone to put in a shift until we get to that level.

Personally, I’m starting to think that Rashford instructed to conserve his energy and be our main outlet for goals. That’s why he rarely pressed or defended and had the most chances for United.

Rashford had like six shots or eight versus Brighton and Hojlund had zero. Zilch. Odo. He didn’t get any service, or any that he connected with. The only one he connected with turned into a goal, but Rashford delayed the pass too long and it was out of play. It was even as a last resort because he’d played his normal rubbish.

I think ETH has to put Rashford in his place. He should stop pressuring himself to score. Everyone must work hard, create chances for others, and score goals when in the right positions.

The Rashford favoritism should end. “Gernacho” has better decision making most times. If Rashford is off ona particular day, Genarcho grin should come in and create chances, etc.

Cc: Christobam
If that's the instruction from the coach, then we have a bigger problem. That's not progressive football and our attack will struggle. Yes Rashford may end up with 20+ goals, but like last season we will score one of the lowest number of goals. While Rashford is getting some accolades in the media, the team will be struggling with goal difference

ChristoBam; I feel the same way.
Rashford's decision making is killing me but the question is who can even put up a good performance than him with this current squad?

You remember when ETH benched Cr7 because he was performing badly, all hell broke loose online. lol

eph12; Garnacho has shown to play better coming from the bench; if Rashford is benched, who will be your preferred replacement?
Rotate the players. Why can't Rashford come in from the bench in some games? He is worse coming from the bench?

All hell broke loose because it wasn't about the performance but power play. He wanted to be the biggest person in the room and that's fine. If it was about performance, Rashford would have been benched by now.

Oh,let's go to the extreme and say Rashford never passes to players in better position. I'm not even surprised y'all like going to the extreme whether it's praising or criticizing a player.

Rashford will pass to a player that's in a better position. No be today. But he tries things on whenever he fancies his chances. What he needs to learn since we've got someone like Hojlund is making the pass even if you strongly believe you'll score.
What's even special about Hojlund that Rashford should be passing to him? Was it not 9 goals or so he scored last season?

That's a manager heading to the sack. Benching one of the top players of your team for someone that's dropped worse performances. It's not about the replacement being better. Pep dropped Grealish because at that point playing Foden was better for the team. That's what you drop players for.

You don't drop players to appease angry reactionary fans.
I agree you don't drop players because of reactionary fans. He shouldn't have dropped DDG. He made a mistake there

Read the 2nd paragraph. That's what applies in the case of benching Grealish for the likes of Foden. It's not the same with Rashford.
And I'm telling you that there are many instances where best players were benched for one reason or the other, not just because there is a better option on the bench

He's not a playmaker. Yeah, it depends on who plays up front with him. His gameplay changes based on who's up front with him. He'll take on less shots if he has a clinical striker in front of him.
Who is asking him to be a play maker? Passing the ball to someone better positioned is not play making. Joining your team mates to win the ball back is definitely not rocket science. Being a team player is not for the lesser players only.

ChristoBam:
No one's benching a player to pass a message for him to play better with the team. At the end of each match he plays, they bring out scenarios he could have done better and try to get him to play better with the ones up front.

You bench a player because you believe the team will probably fare better without him which is not the case in this point.

You guys are starting another version the Bruno/VDB thing.
Where do you see any comparison?

He played differently when Martial was in top form.
And no Manager would tell Rashford to play differently last season when we had Weghorst and Martial up front.
I'm struggling to understand what you're saying here. His passing depends on who he is playing with and you're okay with it because he was our top goal scorer? Are you sure you're okay?

That's not indiscipline please. Haba. He needs to adjust the way he plays. He needs to look up for options more often when in the box rather than try things on himself.

What he needs is adjustment because we have a real striker now in the team. They need to learn how to work together. It's obvious.

But how can you tag that as indiscipline he needs to get benched for.

He'll learn how to mix things up I believe. This was literally his first match with Hojlund.
This is not the first time we have noticed this about Rashford. This is how he has always played. Its cute if we're playing counter and all Bruno needs to do is to look for Rashford as he is the only player up top. But many times when there are others in better positions, Rashford will most likely never give that final pass.

Indiscipline is when you show no concern to the game unless you're expecting a pass or the ball is with you. This is a very serious case of indiscipline.
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 5:20pm On Sep 18, 2023
The main reason why Rashford should be benched is not because there are better options, but because he needs to play for the team. I don't know how you can't see that this benefits everyone in the long run
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 5:18pm On Sep 18, 2023
ChristoBam:
Are we talking about Rashford here? What's Rashford and indiscipline in the same sentence for?

Rashford has not been great but he's playing the same way he's always played. He's just in terrible form so everything looks terrible.

The discussion is about benching him for poor performance. But even in his poor form, he's still out best player up front. We've seen Gernacho start and look like a bum again and again. Martial can't play from the left again. We know the issue with Sancho. So what exactly is the option when you're benching Rashford?
When I said indiscipline, I was referring to the general way in which they play, and how he wants them to play. But if you insist that how they currently play is how ETH wants them to play and they're just experiencing terrible form, omo we're in bigger trouble.

If Rashford not wanting to pass, or being lackadasical to the game unless the ball is at his feet is how he is supposed to play under ETH, its only a matter of time before ETH is sacked

The thing is if we don't start Rashford, who would we start? Gernacho? Sancho? Martial?
A coach that wants to instill discipline wouldn't care. He would bench him for anybody. He definitely can't contest with City now, so this is his opportunity to lay the foundation for something big. If he uses one season to clear the rot, we will all know that that's what he is doing and support him

You're right and I've always had the same opinion about this. That structure should even have been created before ETH was permanently appointed.
But then it's not too late. That's why I was suggesting that ETH recommends a DOF. We need someone he can work with because he must succeed
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Re: Official Manchester United Fan Thread:''20 Times EPL Champion by eph12(m): 6:24pm On Sep 17, 2023
ChristoBam:
What're you saying? Hiring a DOF should even be bare minimum. Money is also a problem. But at least, with a DOF we'd probably do better with the funds available. 400m plus is enough to get the squad playing good football if we have the right structure in place.

But if the plan is to challenge City, money's definitely been a problem and appointing a DOF and all of those other things won't change shit. Which has always been my point.
We have to take it a step at a time. We can't challenge City just after 1-2 years. We have to create a structure, then build the team around that structure. That's what I was hoping ETH will do. This doesn't necessarily involve a lot more money than has already been spent. Let's just have a team that has a structure and play good football first

All my posts about making money available was me mentally trying to work out how things can work under this current system. I've always said it from the very beginning, the type of structure we need. They said I was Anti-Ten Hag then. Same people troll me for my support of ETH now.

And why would the manager suggest a DOF lol?
I'm not trolling.

We're talking about backing the manager yeah? Will hiring a DOF that sits well with ETH not count as backing the manager? We both agree that money is not the problem here

It means calling for a change in the structure.
The heat should be on the owners and the CEO, definitely not the manager. That's in regards to the fanbase.

But when I said 'back the manager' in that post, I was actually referring to the owners backing the manager. You'll see everything stated in that paragraph is directed towards the owners.
Okay so its not about making money available? Good.

Should ETH suggest a DOF he can work with or the club should just get anybody?

I just wonder when United fans will start using their brains and not head to the predictable route of blaming the manager at every point the team starts to falter. It's tiring, especially for someone like me that's fed up with the continuous emotional investment into the team with no happy returns.

Brighton is a team with a clear structure and direction. Potter and DZB are/were both tools in actualizing those plans the hierarchy had. If DZB leaves today, they bring in a manager with a similar profile.

Potter was the hot cake during his time at Brighton. Actually brought this team from the championship and had them playing real beautiful football. Man left that structure, got to a Chelsea that had a total different direction and looked like an absolute bum. Why? Everything was different. From recruitment, to style of play he was used to, to fans with zero patience and high expectations.

The cost of Brighton's team, I saw being pasted around while Potter was manager at Brighton. What was the cost of the team when he got to Chelsea?

Back the manager. Get a real DOF that can actually help in creating a system that was present at Ajax. Ten Hag should focus on what he's actually good at and the other jobs like recruitment and direction should be left to a competent hand. It's actually simple but I guess those types of appointments affect some other things in regards to the owners.
What does back the manager mean to you? Let's discuss
