Stay there asking questions. It is a foolish man that puts himself in a situation where he has no options.
When hunger bites, they either have to hustle or go home.
This hustle hustle you keep saying, please explain what you mean oh. Are you saying people should start doing jobs without valid permits? This is not Nigeria where anything goes. The repercussion would be deadly if they go down that route and are found out.

No job is a joke... The salary can be managed.. The students should stop living above their means..
This is not a matter of living above one's means. Even basic essentials (rent, transport, feeding) requires at least a minimum amount.
They are there to study, combining that with working is going to be a distraction. I am not saying people don't work & school at the same time but my point is their assumption before leaving Nigeria is that they would be given an allowance; if they were sponsoring themselves then they would already know they may need to work whilst studying.

In any case, they should be paid their allowance, that's my own.

PDP is really finished! That's what you get after 16 years of mismanagement.
EducationRe: Rivers Students Cries Out Over 6 Months Unpaid Allowances by ephi123(f): 9:04am On Apr 02, 2015
This is just unfair. It's tough enough adjusting to life in a strange country, not to mention adding the stress of not knowing whether your next allowance would be paid and when. I can bet that money is in someone's bank account probably earning interest, man's inhumanity to man. Corruption must go in Nigeria. Enough is enough.

These are the kinds of friends that would stab you in the back whilst shining all 32 teeth with you.

OP, it's good you got your money back (thank God for that) but I think the most important thing is the lessons you have learnt from this experience.
PoliticsRe: Morocco: Jonathan An Exporter Of Conflict- Buhari by ephi123(f): 5:40pm On Mar 13, 2015
Nobody seems to respect Jonathan these days... a whole President of a country like Nigeria being dragged in the mud all over the place. I don't see this happening with other world leaders - Putin, Merkel, Obama and co, nobody messes with them anyhow but uncle GEJ just dey chop insults from all angles. That's what you get when you've not shown yourself as someone to be respected. Eod.

@ ephi123 and sukkot
...I will add to your take

Last Friday, I slipped and fell on Oxford Street...flat fall, leg twist, small cry, okay big cry escapes....(luckily two buses were just parked, nearest oncoming vehicle was like 15 seconds away)
Meanwhile street was busy, filled with a lot of people, a lone voice asks if I was all right
I got up, limped across, and stayed down for like four minutes, getting my bearings....
A tiny lady comes and asks if I was going to be all right...(A lady who I assume have faced some ?discrimination cos of her dwarfism, and has empathy maybe as a result?)...just her...everybody just moved right along shocked sad lipsrsealed...In Naija, people would lift you up, sorrys will follow you, even reprimands of "what were you thinking about?".....making you know you are surrounded by human beings

I entered Aldo, the first guy that came to show me shoes was chatty, and asked if I was Nigerian, that he is Igbo, grew up in Cameroon and London and can only say kedu...

Well the warmth that enveloped me with his words tipped me over the edge...I cried a bit cheesy...okay more than a bit
I guess it was an accumulation of all the things you said, then a girl in class making a racist comment, other such ignorant comments, and the YouTube video of a girl saying to a black man in a train, that "all of you are slaves', then the fall

Well I type incoherently cos I guess I am still affected, but no matter how much/long I stay here or in the Western world, my heart beats with the pulse of Africa, and I will always long for the sun, development or none...will always prefer it to here, with its warts and all....all I am doing here, is so I can take a bit of progress back home asap
After all, if not for for slave trade and colonisation, we probably would be doing mighty things, the African way...now it is all spoilt...and we will always be measured and will lag behind our "liberators"...I at times feel a wave of nostalgia for that religion which I never got to know, the culture I never experienced etc

I can only say I am in tremendous awe of people ...black Africans who assimilate so well in the Western world, so much so they start resenting or cursing their roots
(Shudders all the same)
Aww, hope you are okay now.
I know, it's just weird, a culture where someone trips on the elevator and 90% of the people just walk past, a culture where you don't know your next door neighbour. I fully fully understand what you've written up there.
I saw that youtube video you mentioned as well, and there are other things as well, that one almost can't express with words, like people choosing not to sit next to you on a crowded train and preferring to stand instead (during the peak of the ebola crisis), I could go on and on. For me, I know sooner or later, I will be back home. Long term, this place is certainly not it.

sukkot:
very perfectly stated brother. i couldnt have put it any better. you are right on the money. first off your subconscious is working against you because it knows you are viewed as a second class citizen being a black person, even if your conscious chooses to deny it. not to talk of how they work you like a machine and then give you like 20 bills to pay. its like being stuck in a hamster wheel that you cant get out off. very depressing. then the weather is crazy. the social life is crap. everyone is angry. you dont know your next door neighbor. you are trapped in a cold soulless existence cheesy
So very true, but lots of people don't understand how it feels. I thought I was the only one who felt this, the system in the West just feels "restrictive" in ways I can't even explain. If naija was better I have no doubt a number of people will be back ASAP.

OP, many people have given great advice, please look before you leap, it's so key to make a huge decision like this prayerfully. All the best whichever decision you make.

Your comment betrays an absolute lack of knowledge in macro economics..

GEJ's administration has taken the boldest step towards diversification than any other to the extent that our economy is less dependent on oil than it has ever been before.

Is it possible to completely diversify our economy to an extent that oil becomes a minor part of our income in just 4 years?
The answer is no. It is a gradual and continuous process.

All economies that are dependent on oil and gas are experiencing the same.
I think I am lost here, what is the boldest step please?!

Also, that second statement is WRONG. Saudi Arabia refused to reduce supply and were ready for crude price to go down to $40 because they had built up a sufficient buffer when prices were high, so their citizens are definitely not experiencing the hardship Nigerians are facing right now.

Imagine, £ from 250 to almost £350 in less than 2 years. What ever happened to putting the right policies and structures in place?!

This is what happens when a leader does not have a vision, a leader that is stumbling about and being misdirected by all the cronies around him whilst the regular man on the street is bearing the brunt of decisions that should have been made cry As if unemployment is not bad enough, we really really need a change from this current administration, it just can't be any worse nau, haba

For all those that are telling the OP to "mind his business", well, as long as if they were in the husband's shoes, they would rather not be aware of what is happening (even if anonymously) then all well and good.

To think our politicians regularly travel and see all this yet come back to Nigeria and sit comfortably with the mess, status quo, chai. What is wrong with the Black man?! cry

Hot water bottle helps - it doesn't eliminate the pain completely, only reduces it. But as someone said above, you can't exactly carry hot water bottle around / to work.

FamilyRe: Real Friends Or Disguised Foes? Re-evaluating Your Friendships by ephi123(f): 3:46pm On Jan 16, 2015
Interesting reading this as in the past few days, I have been considering how to put some distance between me and a particular friend. I have decided it's not going to be business as usual this year. I sat down and said to myself what exactly is the basis for this friendship sef? In every friendship, you must bring something to the table - doesn't necessarily have to be material benefits, it could be something as simple as your personality, attitude, ideas, encouragement etc. This particular friend would keep me on the phone for almost 1 hour, the conversation is not done until SHE has finished all she wants to say, which is basically whinging and complaining about stuff. I dread her phone calls and I am drained by time she is done with her complaints. I have asked myself, do I want to continue with this this year and the answer is capital NO. If you are not adding any value to my life and only want to take take take (including my time), I am better off without such a person.

Quality over quantity any day for me.
