Jobs/VacanciesRe: Introverts, How Do You Cope At Your Work Place? by epistlegcfr: 4:00pm On Jun 10, 2023
grin I let my work do all the talking. When your work speaks for you, everyone will be forced to speak to you because they know that without you, things could crumble. You can be a man/woman of few words yet remain the most influential person because when you speak, insights drop from your jaw. Now if you want to rise to being an introverted don, work on your story telling skills so that when you have to talk, everyone listens and when you drop the mic, it’s like sharing the grace. Then you happily crawl back into your shells. You reserve your glow for another time.

ProgrammingI Will Teach Your Kids How To Code For Free by epistlegcfr(op): 8:14am On Dec 02, 2021
Hello,

Over the years, I have seen how under-represented the black community generally have been when it comes to anything tech in the western world. So far so good, I have worked in about 5 Fortune 500 companies and I have always been the only black/Nigerian software engineer on my team.

I thought deeply of a way to start changing that narrative by starting a catch them young bootcamp aimed at playfully introducing coding to young bright Nigerians for free over series of zoom classes. I see this as my way of giving back and growing budding talented young programmers out from Nigeria.

For your kids to participate :

1. Your child must be between 8-13 years old with interest in coding and computers.
2. Your child must have access to a computer and good internet connectivity as these classes will be hands on.
3. Your child must be available for an hour class every Saturday until the bootcamp is over.
4. You must ensure that all assignments are completed.
5. You must have access to zoom or Teams.

If you are interested and for more enquires , send me a dm here or on instagram @temmyos . Please tell your family, friends, niece, nephew and cousins.

Thanks,

Sincerely,

Temi

Apologies but you don't sound like what you portray yourself to be.
* Studying masters in Canada (and can't do online research about schools in USA)
*Strong Coding background and algorithm as well as high level mathematics (and trying to evade GRE)
* You re seeking for PhD scholarship when we all know 90% of US Schools fund PhD Students
*Too many things just don't add up, but what's my own sef, I'll say wehdone sir!

wait for the gurus in the house to come give you suggestions

#WehdoneSir
1. Well I may not really know so much about US universities. But if 90 percent of them do fund PhD according to your claim, then why do some schools ask students for proof of finance as a prerequisite for sending I-20 form or so? For Canadian universities it does not work like that. You could even apply solely for the visa using your funding letter as evidence of finance. It is the exclusive duty of CIC to assess your proof of finance and not the university of your choice.

2. Like I said I am rounding up my degree right now and I have too much on my plate. I am taking some certification classes, taking my last course, writing for publication and at the same time writing my thesis, while working by the side for my supervisor. So it is never about evading or running away from GRE. I do not have the time for GRE right now and I am aware some universities do exempt candidates that studied in the west for a specific period of time from taking GRE.

3. About the research of a thing, I already mentioned that I got a university in Chicago from personal research, that does not require GRE and they do have good rating. I saw another one at Maryland or so but I do not like their rating. It's just about getting fast answers and cutting corners using people's experience here and that's all about it.

Hi everyone, I am new here(USA thread). Here is the breakdown of my shirt story. I have a degree in computer science from Nigeria with a 2.1(4.0/5.0). I am just about completing a fully funded master's degree in computational science in Canada 3.55/4.0 GPA, 78 percent average. I have two publications in a Nigerian journal and I am getting ready to publish one in a top rated international journal. Now I am interested in a PhD in Computer Science in any USA university, with some clause however:

[1] A university that issues scholarship on admission, hence there will be no serious need to present a lot of cash for the student visa.

[2] A university that is fairly easy to get into with fair rating

[3] A university that does not require GRE.

[4] A university that does not require neither Ielts nor Toefl.

I was able to identify just one school so far from my search. I know there are folks with experience here so other than continue endless searching, i have decided to come back home. Mak una helep me o. I am preparing against the next admission cycle. I also have to state that I have a very strong coding background, data structure and algorithm as well as high level mathematics so I could effectively function well in pretty much any area of research.

Yes but still it is never about how far but how well. When i was going through my travails, I nearly dropped out of school. I wish i have someone who went to University of Ado Ekiti and entered that same program in 2005/2006. Many potentials were buried, my best friend dropped out and never went back to school. Even though he had the means he was just purely frustrated. Sometimes lecturers would come to the class like this and call us unfortunate students. I remembered one specifically said we are set of unambitous student.....they scorn us they mock us. Even the fellow students called us names. But see what God has done for us. So its never the final yet. Just make sure you make the best use of your time where you are currently. You will be surprised where you will find yourself in the next 5 years. I am certain you will look back at smile at all these current tides and waves. Goodluck

Have written JAMB thrice, the lowest score is 198. I met the cut-off marks of all the institutions i sat for,but fate has its way.
Thank God this year,Kwarapoly gave me a PT program to study Accountancy. I accepted it. Who am I to decline the offer?

TravelHelp Needed With Mail Seizure by epistlegcfr(op): 2:43am On Dec 16, 2015
Hi,

I need your advice because I have a situation right now. I am an international graduate student currently studying in Canada. I went for a written driver’s examination. After the exam, I meet two guys that wrote the exam with me and we got talking. I informed them of my intentions to get my driver’s license sent to me from my country. Luckily they said they are actually planning the same. Since we are student of the same school and we are from the same country, one is even from my department in the school we agreed to save cost by getting their own license sent to my brother and then my brother added mine. Making three licenses in a package all with different names and information. It was indicated on the waybill that the package contains 3 licenses no form of concealment or any foul play
So my brother sent it to me and we all contributed the money meant for the courier. But surprisingly, it was held. Instead of the license to be delivered by the courier, I got a notice of seizure mail from CIC with the description of the item seized being individual names, and date of birth on the licenses. And a message to the client which states that: If you want, your documents will be returned send your request by fax to the fax number of the officer below.

(1)It was stated beneath the filled form that item seized from international mail and courier service will be disposed off in accordance with the immigration and refugee protection regulations. Should you wish to discuss this matter you may contact the fax within 30days of seizure

(2)The information provided on this form is collected under the Authority of the immigration and refugee protection Act. It is protected by the privacy act and is accessible to you and will be stored in personal information bank number CIC Bleep 180.

(3) The notification states that it was held under immigration and protection act section 140: An officer may seize and hold any means of transportation, document or other thing if the officer believes on a reasonable ground that it was fraudulently or improperly obtained or used or that the seizure is necessary to prevent its fraudulent or improper use or to carry out the purposes of this Act.

Now, the other two guys involved are saying it is not a big deal that we should forget it as they are not ready to engage in any tussle with the immigration. They claimed theirs was issued straight from FRSC office but despite that we tried tracking and its saying invalid information even mine despite doing the data capture before leaving Nigeria.

On my own part, being the receiver, I fear having a bad record because I will be applying for SOWP for my wife to be very soon. I don’t want my applications rejected on bad record grounds. Yet I need the two guys to agree with me because if Cic wants to confirm from them and they deny out of fear, I will be in a big mess. Does number 2 have a bad effect on my record? If I refuse to make request for the seized document, will there be a bad record or can this affect my future applications? Please advise as I am having sleepless night already.

@fhemmy @justwise @onyeoma8 @siga @akanni @chrigo please advise i can't sleep

ProgrammingIdeas on this? by epistlegcfr(op):
1. Implement the Bisection method in Matlab and compute the three roots r1, r2 and
r3 of the polynomial P(x) Ξ x2 - 6:83x2 + 12:9682x + 5:358 with an accuracy of five significant digits. In order to create an efficient implementation you should consider the following points:

(a) The roots belong to the following intervals respectively:
r1 ἐ [2:47; 2:58], r2 ἐ [3:71; 3:8], r3 ἐ [0:5; 0:6]

(b) If r is a root of p(x) = 0, then from the polynomial division P(x) Ξ (x-r) q(x) it is clear that the remaining roots of p (x) are those of the quotient q (x). Intuitively the computation of a root of q (x) must in general be faster than the computation of the same root of p (x). This technique is called deflation.

Use (a) to start your computation and (b) to write an efficient program.
2. Explain what benefit you may have in using deflation other than speed, in the case of
Non bracketing methods like Newton are for example.

Create a class diagram based on the following description:
In the modern world, many retail stores and even residential properties install video monitoring systems. A customer, who has a unique address, can choose to have one or more video monitoring system. Each video monitoring consists of a set of components namely: video archive, video display, and video capture.
Video archive stores video data according to a storage path either locally or through FTP. The video store operation will be different in each case.
The video capture has a unique vendor with unique factory address and its main operation is to capture video. The video capture can be associated with any number of cameras.
Any camera will have a status attribute to define if it online or offline and it should stream the video buffer to the video capture component. There are two types of cameras: IP camera or an analog camera. The stream video buffer operation will depend on the type of the camera. Moreover, if the camera is an analog camera then it will contain one encoder component inside it to encode raw video data from the camera sensor. Finally, the customer is able to retrieve the video data only from local archive in the current system through the date and time parameters using a retrieve video operation.
CareerHelp Union Bank Unjustly Terminated My Appointment! by epistlegcfr(op): 5:29am On Jun 27, 2015
Dear Nairalanders,

It is with a heavy heart full of worries and grief I write this. Posting this wasn’t my idea till an active nairalander who happened to be my friend suggested I explain my plight to well meaning Nigerians on how to go about seeking redress or what next to do with my shattered life because right now, I am so sad, bewildered, conked out and sorrowful. Today, I have contemplated suicide but I am not the kinda person that gives up so easily so I am willing to fight this through even with the last drop of my blood.

Till Friday 26th of June, 2015, I work for the above named bank in Nigeria. I joined them last year, went to training school and consequently became a full staff. I was confirmed specifically in the first quarter of this year as a full staff. Prior to confirmation, I have never fallen below 95percent. As a matter of fact because of my experience and wits, I was made the branch manager of the branch where I was posted immediately after training school. Since then, I have been undertaking series of professional examination related to my job ranging from ICAN to CIBN and I have always been scoring above 95percent as regards HR appraisal since I joined the bank.

However, I got to work today, logged into the system like I do every other day only to see the greatest shocker of my life. I was surprisingly denied access and consequently instructed to call the IT control department. My initial guess was that I have possibly been transferred to another branch. The IT department said I should contact the HR that I have been suspended.

I started sweating profusely inspite of the cabinet AC directly opposite my desk but I never had a clue till I got an email from HR almost immediately saying my appointment has been terminated. For crying out loud I had 95percent in HR appraisal just last month, I have just been confirmed in May, what have I done wrong? Where do I start from here? What do I do? Series of thoughts started flowing into my mind in thousands I started feeling feverish immediately. I am so blank right now. I need advice, I feel demoralized, dejected, rejected, and I feel so cheated.

I have very cool relationship with my bosses and i cant think of stepping on anyone's toe at the moment. This sudden occurence has defied all reasonable logic and i dont know what else to thing about......I will hang on as i await your replies. Thank you alot.

Hello Sir, Happy Sunday!

Firstly, congratulations on your admission. The funding is juicy cheesy

Your case is interesting and I know it would work out well at the end. Just to add my 2 cents as I trust the other gurus would chip in their own useful nuggets (***looks at Oga Siga***). Is it possible to get a job in the Uni now? Maybe you can talk to the Careers department of the school or something like that. I guess, a job and your scholarship without worrying your folks can convince the VOs that you are financially stable to take care of yourself.

Just to help brighten your day, I have seen someone get TRV without scholarship and a SOA of 2.4M (he had paid full school fess though). Cheers!
Thank you so much brother
The scholarship has graduate assistanship.

Good morning everyone, I need your candid advice. I got a spring admission last week with a scholarship of 15,500. All glory to God.

However, I am on the verge of loosing that admission because my parent doesn't have fat account to show though that scholarship has covered all expenses, tuition, accomodation, and all. If I will need to add to that scholarship it shouldn't be more than 500-1000Cad. I have no rich uncle or aunt who could pose as my sponsor just to get the visa.

My dad,s financial standing as at when we had family meeting after I broke the goodnews was about 200k but he said he should have an inflow of 3M for a year.My dad spoke about loan but we don't know If he would be granted My mum has only 72,000 though with an inflow of about 1million because she is a thrift collector. I just finished helping my mum draft her request for loan letter from cooperative. She requuested a loan of 300k.And personally, I can raise 500k on my own cos I work . My monthly pay is 30k and I save very well

I want all the experts here to come to my rescue. Do I stand a chance at all or I should just forget about this? I am so confused right now about the financial aspect of this. Somebody help me!!
