webaplanet: Remains of astronaut legend Neil Armstrong buried at sea

Posted at 09/15/2012 8:44 AM | Updated as of 09/15/2012 8:44 AM

WASHINGTON - The cremated remains of legendary American astronaut Neil Armstrong were scattered at sea Friday, in a ceremony aboard a US aircraft carrier paying final tribute to the first man to set foot on the moon, NASA said.

US Navy personnel carried Armstrong's remains to the Atlantic Ocean one day after a somber memorial ceremony at the Washington National Cathedral for the famously reserved Apollo 11 commander, who died August 25 at the age of 82.

Armstrong's widow Carol was presented an American flag at the ceremony aboard the USS Philippine Sea that included a bugler and rifle salute.

"Neil will always be remembered for taking humankind's first small step on another world," NASA Administrator Charles Bolden said at the National Cathedral service.

"But it was the courage, grace and humility he displayed throughout his life that lifted him above the stars."

Armstrong's Apollo 11 crew mates Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin, Eugene Cernan -- the Apollo 17 mission commander and last man to walk on the moon -- attended the memorial service.

Also present Thursday was John Glenn, the former US senator and first American to orbit the Earth.

Armstrong came to be known around the world for the immortal words he uttered on July 20, 1969, as he became the first person ever to step onto another body in space: "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind."

Well, this is what you get when you have in-box thinkers occupying big offices! In modern times, countries develop by enacting policies and laws that reflect the reality of it's people and developmental phase. There's no way Nigeria can develop with the kind of policies these unreasonable occupiers of offices in Nigeria keep churning out! And then before you know it, the next CBN governor will come and introduce N10,000 note to 'correct' Sanusi's error and so on until we surpass Robert Mugabe's Zimbabwe.

Who says Sanusi is a scholar? Who says he's on course to restore Nigeria's financial system? Well, I've never trusted this guy's judgement. Every financial policy Sanusi has brought forth is trounced by simple economics and logic. OMG! Haven't we got better administrators in Nigeria?

Here is how it will pan out:

1) Every single item the is sold in denominations of N5, N10 and N20 will sell for N50.
2) For items like 'pure water', and other low-cost sachet products, producers will have to stop producing N5, N10, N20 packages and re- package to minimum of N50.
3) Fares that cost N20, N30, N40 would become N50, those for N60, N70, N80 would become N100 etc
4) Among other things, the aim of the cashlight or cashless economy is defeated, since anyone can then easily carry a million naira(in multiples of N5000) without any qualms.
5) Bribery and corruption just become easier! We still have Ghana-must-go bags in the market, mind you.

Soludo came up with a brilliant idea to shore up the value of our bastardized naira and was fired for it! Sanusi has come up with this strangulating policy, what will happen now? Will GEJ let him see it through?

A better idea (considering that we don't spend coins in Nigeria (an attitudinal challenge we haven't been able to overcome so far), would have been to re-introduce the lower denominations (currently in coins) in paper forms, as someone mentioned earlier and allow the system to re-adjust itself (evidently downwards which will translate to better value for money).

This is a no-brainer! Even without studying economics, I still know this for a fact. Someone's got to stop Sanusi!

Farouk Lawan: what is Nigeria’s daily fuel consumption?
Diezieni: 52million Liters
NNPC: 35m liters
DPR: 43m liters
PPPRA: 24M liters
Okonjo: 40M liters

Farouk Lawan: What was the subsidy for 2011?
Diezieni: 1.4Trillion
Okonjo: 1.3Trillion
CBN: 1.7Trillion

Farouk Lawan: Can we have the KPMG REPORT?
Okonjo: I have to go through the report first
Diezieni: I have not seen the report

Farouk Lawan: What is the production capacity of our local refineries?’
NNPC: 30%
PPPRA: 20%
DPR: 13%
Diezieni: 15%

Farouk Lawan: Does Nigeria pay subsidy on locally refined Products?
Diezaini: it depends
NNPC: The lay man cannot understand how it’s done
PPPRA: yes
DPR: No

Farouk Lawan: Why is Kerosene still scarce?
Diezieni: Because its use by the aviation industry as aviation fuel
NNPC: Because there is no subsidy so NNPC overstretched its resources
PPPRA: it’s not properly deregulated

Farouk Lawan: what is the balance in the subsidy accounts?
Diezieni: it’s a virtual account
NNPC: There is no account in existence as the lay man will look at it
PPPRA: The account is a technical one
CBN: There is no account with us for subsidy
Okonjo: The account exists but not with a bank. angry angry angry

PoliticsRe: NNPC Claims CBN Operates A Secret Account by eprynce(m): 12:23pm On Jul 06, 2012
Musiwa2: if ministry of finance have nothing to do with Oil account. And the ministry of finance pays state allocation from taxes account. why is it given 13% oil derivation to state from ministry of finance taxes account.

The ministry of finance source of income comes from federal inland revenue service FIRS and others which channel them to the ministry of finance. This is where the ministry pays state allocation ...

Now do Oil company share their profit with the nigeria govt. the answer is no. except incases where there is joint venture... You see the moment the crude oil leave nigeria. it becomes the properties of mobil or shell..

Nigeria govt sell oil block license.. just like it sold MTN or Globacom licence.. The oil block license are not father christmas money.. Does Globacom share its profit with nigeria govt NO.

Except incase of joint venture.. I think there may not be this account. You see nigeria govt have been scare most of the time to tell nigerian. they collect taxes.. look 100% nigerian discovered how taxes work. when they came abroad. not while in Nigeria.

The reason for the 13% OIL derivation was because Jonathan Goodluck ijaw ethnics were kidnapping white people. So they decided to give them 13%. but if the ministry of finance says it as nothing to do with any account. why is the ministry of finance paying 13% from its own account to state as 13% oil derivation. when it had nothing to do with oil derivation.. and north was scare of break up. but with the satellite pictures been out.

What it means is that sanusi should be the one paying 13% oil derivation. If he had any such account in the first place.

and in case of joint venture. Nigeria only get just small of the money. may be 40% or less. And most of this were under the military era.. So it look like the 13% oil derivation is about to disappear. There were better solution to that crisis because alot of the soil pollution was created by the people of the area. who blow up pipeline mostly because they did not want the oil to go to kaduna or steal the oil.

now sanusi should be the one paying oil derivation and not ngozi iweala ministry if Ngozi iweala ministry have never seen the oil money. And I will be not be shock, if Sanusi have no such account. or just little money in such account.

the issue still hold. that in the case of Nigeria. State should be the one who collect taxes because of the ethnic composition of nigeria.

The advantage that state collect taxes is if Bishop Oyedepo church can build covenant university with less not even half the population of Jigawa state.. it means Jigawa state can built 10 times of covenant univesity.

The issue is the ministry of finance should not be collecting taxes, the state should be collecting taxes. this is the only way to bring development.
Guy, only God knows what you are trying to arrive at. How can you be talking like this? What do you mean? Abeg, let people with clearer perspective talk jor! Abi na by force to post for NL? Next jor!

Travel AdsHow To Book A Nice, Suitable Hotel Room by eprynce(op):
Getting a good hotel room can be a big factor in determining how you enjoy a trip. Where you lodge will be determined by a few factors ranging from budget, location or destination to availability of hotel rooms. However, there are important questions you need to ask before actually booking a room. Here are five (5) questions you should ask to be sure you get the best room possible in the hotel of your choice.

It is vital that you get the front desk clerk involved in choosing the best room for you and not letting the hotel booking system choose it for you. The clerk works permanently in the hotel and knows the make up of the rooms. You should make specific requests at the check in counter and ask for initial inspection if possible. The questions below are a good way to go about it:

Is there wi-fi reception in this room?

Gratefully, more and more hotels are offering in-room wi-fi connection for free. However, we are in an era of “get what you pay for”, hence, a free connection could also mean weak or spotty reception. Since wi-fi is broadcast via wireless routers located in hotel corridors, the rooms closest to the routers get the best reception. Front desk staffers often know which rooms get the most complaints about poor wi-fi reception, so they can actively search for a room they know gets a strong signal.

Can I get a newly renovated room or one with a great view, a corner room, or a quiet room?

Simply asking for any of the above gets the hotel clerk involved in choosing your room. These features don’t usually affect the room rate, so by asking, you are likely to get the best room for the price you are paying.

How about an adjoining room?

This is very important because you need some quietude. Noisy neighbors can distract you if you’re working, taking business calls or meeting with clients in your room. This is also an important request if you are a light sleeper. If peace and quiet is important to you, ask the clerk for a non-adjoining room, that is, one without interior doors leading to an adjacent room.

Does this room have a well-fitted, well-lit desk and chair?

Some hotels have desks in every room that are suitable for working. Some don’t. By letting the clerk know that you plan to work in your room, you are more likely to get a larger or better room customized and set aside for business travellers — maybe even one on a special club or concierge level reserved for elite level members of hotel loyalty programmes or those on specially negotiated corporate rates.

How much will an upgrade to a bigger/better room or suite cost?

Hotel desk clerks are in the business. They are weary of guests asking for something for nothing. But by offering to pay slightly more than your reserved rate, you could end up with a much suitable room. The amount you pay will vary based on how busy the hotel is, and how many higher tier rooms are available. You’ll never know how much it will cost to get an upgrade unless you ask… so ask! Like they say, “you never know”, you might be surprised!

You may want to check out www.hotelsaffair.com for your online hotels and flight search service. It's a very convenient way of doing all these from the comfort of your home or office.
