We will charge him with sacrilege, malicious damage – Police

A pastor, identified as Wale Fagbere, got stuck in a shrine in Ketu community in Ayetoro area of Yewa North local government, Ogun State while destroying the traditional worshipers’ items.

Sunday Vanguard gathered that the pastor, whose church could not be ascertained as of the time of this report, became unconscious in the shrine.

Fagbere was reported to have earlier told his congregation that he had been directed by God to destroy all the shrines in Ketu community.

An attempt to destroy the shrine boomeranged as he got stuck in the place, prompting residents to raise the alarm.

Further findings showed that the priests in charge of the shrine insisted that until they performed some ritual on him, he could not be let off the hook.

It was gathered that intervention of the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulaziz Adelakun, saved the cleric as he was treated by the priests before he regained consciousness.

Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, who confirmed the incident, said the man might be charged for sacrilege and malicious damage.

He said: “The police got the report in Ayetoro that one Evangelist Wale Fagbere went to Ketu to destroy a shrine. After the destruction, the man became unconscious.

“When policemen visited the place, the traditionalists claimed that the subject could not be taken away until some spiritual exercise had been performed. “The Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba AbdulAzeez Adelakun, waded into the matter which led to the release of the man.

The victim has been revived and has been handed over to his family for more spiritual cleansing”.

When asked who the police would charge, the traditionalists or the victim, the PPRO said the latter would be charged for sacrilege and malicious damage after he gets well.

He said the police next step would be determined by the traditionalists lodging of a complaint against the pastor. “Everybody has right to worship anything he so desires”, Oyeyemi said.

The act of lovemaking became sour for a Kano couple last week after an unidentified person poured acid on them during sexual intercourse.

The Nation reports that the sad incident happened at the couple’s house in the Gyadi Gyadi /Karkasara area of Kano. The unidentified perpetrator had fled away before neighbours responded to the couple’s distress call. The wife, Amina Moses, got hit the most by the acid. She was was admitted in Aminu Kano Specialist Hospital, where she spent some days and was treated while the husband is being treated in an undisclosed hospital.

One of the eyewitnesses who asked not be named said that the closeness of the couple’s bed to the window of their apartment made it easy for their assailant to carry out the dastardly act. She said:

Amina and her husband called Moses were making love in the evening of the unfortunate day, when they suddenly raised the alarm that someone had poured a liquid substance on them through their window. We rushed into their room only to find them in pains.

”Amina was the one that was badly hit by the liquid substance suspected to be acid. She was treated at the Aminu Kano Specialist Hospital and their assailant has not been apprehended as we speak despite the fact that the matter was reported to the state police command. The closeness of their bed to the window made it easy for their attacker to successfully carry out his mission and escape without being apprehended.”

The Nigerian army claimed it has defeated the deadly Boko Haram sect while the militant group’s leader, embroiled in a split in the group, Abubakar Shekau said he will fight on.

While the troops continue to arrest the terrorists, a lot of their wives and children became also liberated and carried out from the Boko Haram hideouts.

The federal government put the wives of the terrorists in a comfortable safe house while thousands of displaced people are starving and falling ill in overcrowded, lice-infested camps.

Chika Oduah, a journalist of Al Jazeera based in Abuja, has met with some of the women to hear the stories of their difficult life with the insurgents.

However, not all of the women are happy over their liberation by the Nigerian army, some of them still love their Boko Haram husbands and want to reunite with them.

The social workers through soft probing and playful dialogue with the wives of the Boko Haram insurgents, have been able to learn more about how the group runs.

While many human rights organisations say the terrorists’ wives are forced into carrying out acts of violence, the women at the safe house reveal that as their husbands are working for God, they do whatever they ask of them.
One of them said: “It’s OK to be a suicide bomber. It’s normal.”

According to women young girls, aged between 10 and 12, who have carried out suicide bombings in cities across northeastern Nigeria possibly volunteered, hoping to revenge the death of a relative.

But a Chadian intelligence officer who spoke to Al Jazeera on the condition of anonymity confronted this suggestion: “In the interviews we have conducted with Boko Haram members, they told us that they tell women and girls that they will go to paradise if they commit suicide for Allah. So, they ask girls, ‘Who wants to go to paradise?’ They tell the girls that they will also wear bombs. So the man straps a bomb to his body and to the girl. They tell the girl, let’s do this and we will meet again in paradise. So the girl goes forward and detonates herself, expecting the man to do the same. But the man does not. He watches her blow herself up into pieces and then goes to the next girl to lure her to do the same thing.”

The women often narrated how they began their relationship with the Boko Haram men. They say that when they promised what they call a mubaya’a, an oath of allegiance, to the sect, they were given dabino (dates) to eat and tea to drink and piece of coconut.

Aisha the Amira explains: “The first time I came to join Boko Haram, somebody came, the commander who is a mallam, and asked me, ‘Do you believe in Allah?’ Me, I said yes. ‘And the prophet?’ I said yes. ‘And the Quran?’ I said yes. He then gave me a date palm and coconut. I ate it and then I slept for three or four hours. Then I woke up and my heart was changed. I loved Boko Haram. I didn’t like normal men.”
On his own part the Chadian officer said: “They all told us that the dates were usually dipped in blood and were sometimes mixed with human flesh. Then they have a sort of mystical tea.”

Abba Aji Kalli is the man who has met many Boko Haram terrorists one-by-one.

The terrorists tried to attack his house in Maiduguri a few months ago. He is the state coordinator for the Civilian Joint Task Force, a paramilitary vigilante group working with the Nigerian army to end the insurgency.

He said: “When we catch Boko Haram members, they tell us things. They tell us that they sometimes even eat human meat. This is what they’ve been doing. In Boko Haram, whatever is in your imagination, whatever you think, they have it there.”
Kalli further explains why his group burns whatever they find in Boko Haram camps – food, jewellery and flasks.

“Because they’re dangerous. They can poison you. Boko Haram is using magic charms. Once you take their water and their dates, they’ve taken over your mind,” he said.

AKIANE KRAMARIK, born in Idaho, began drawing at age two. Her hyperrealist paintings are so powerful that they converted her atheist parents to Christians. Kramarik, who was homeschooled and is a self-taught painter, has created works that have been inspired by visions from God—a figure she had never known in (or outside of) her home.

“We didn’t pray together, there was no discussion about God, and we didn’t go to church,” Akiane’s mother, Forelli, told Today’s Christian in 2004. “Then all of a sudden, Akiane was starting to talk about God.”

“I wake up after I have had many dreams,” Akiane added. “I wake up and I pray, and then I see visions and I explain all those to my mom,” who would give her canvases to re-create them. This picture titled ‘Prince of Peace’ was painted by eight year old Akiane Kramarik. At the age of four she started having visions of heaven. A four year old named Colton Burpo underwent immediate appendix surgery and claimed Jesus had taken him to heaven during the procedure. Colton described to his parents over time how Jesus looked and what he saw for his short time in heaven. Colton’s parents would point out pictures of Jesus and ask, “Is this him?” Colton would reply with “No. The ears are wrong.” or “No, the eyes aren’t right” His parents did this very often and not once did they find a picture that had no errors. President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered that prompt and appropriate disciplinary action be taken against those responsible for a wrongful insertion in his speech delivered on September 8, 2016 at the launch of the “Change Begins with Me’’ campaign.

Many critics have attacked Buhari for the similarity of his speech with that of President Barack Obama’s 2008 inaugural speech and called on him to show remorse.

It was observed that the similarities between a paragraph in President Obama’s 2008 Victory Speech and what President Buhari read in paragraph nine of the sixteen-paragraph address while inaugurating the Campaign on Thursday, September 8, 2016 were too close to be passed as coincidence.

But the Presidency described the development as a mistake by an overzealous staff and regretted the occurrence.

“There was a mistake by An overzealous staff and we regret that this has happened, Garba Shehu, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, said in a statement last night.

‎Shehu said that a Deputy Director in the Presidency had already accepted responsibility for the insertion of the contentious paragraph.

“This serious oversight will be investigated thoroughly and appropriate sanction meted.
“The Presidency wishes to state in the clearest possible terms that it regrets this unfortunate incident and will ensure that this does not happen again.

“President Buhari urges Nigerians to look beyond this incident and focus on the message of change which the country needs in order to restore our cherished value systems.
