I remember when my brother obtained a GCE form for me in Ibadan. He said he'd need me to change the environment as a lagos boy. He wanted me to come to Ibadan where he was working. I was in ss2. I left for ibadan to write the gce. When the result was released at the ijokodo waec office, I counted the number of those who passed English at credit level, in the whole of ibadan grammar school center. We were only 12. Others had pass and f9. Today, over 60% would have distinction and credit passes

Today, they pass with As in almost all subjects at a sitting. We used our heads in maths calculations, no single calculator used and once you're caught its expulsion straight, from the hall. Our only calculator was the mathematical and statistical table approved by waec.

Things became so easy from 2000s till date. I once challenged my son in a math question. He scored B2 in further maths and A1 in maths. The moment I collected calculator from his hands and told him to use his head he said dad no pls . They're so used to it nowadays
