Nice choice of softwares.

I'd recommend you learn STAAD Pro sha (You can use it in any design office in the country cos its an industry leading software)

ORION is also great software as I have work experience using it (Versions 16-18) but its limited to RC structures only. Fastrack and TEDDS are also softwares you can use/learn too.

Learn to use all of them. You'd be better for it.

Either you get a PMI CAPM Certification (USA) or a PRINCE2 Foundation certificate (UK). Both of them do not require prior experience.

I'm pleased to discover this thread for Practising project Mgrs, aspiring and experienced PMs.

Firstly, I'd like to plead with everyone not to derail this thread with adverts as there's specific sections to do so.

As an introduction, I'm a young Civil Engineering graduate, PRINCE2 Practitioner certified, currently working as part of a construction project team developing an Airport somewhere very interesting.

I'm actively involved in getting pre-construction document approvals for my work packages (structural and finishes), preparation and review of sub-contractor construction micro-schedules, progress tracking, reporting and issue resolution and escalation where necessary.

I'm not directly involved in the Procurement, Finances and HR aspects of the project but I have an understanding as regards such and how it affects the work package out on site. (Material approvals, Work inspections, Manpower requirements for direct construction, etc.)


As a project Manager, I feel records keeping, learning from issues/situations and, progress monitoring and tracking is key. Not an easy thing to do depending on the people you're dealing with but it does help a great deal. Also do not neglect your stakeholders as they have an impact on your overall success as a PM

The biggest rip-off is that which building owners bring upon themselves by failing to hire the right people to manage their projects. In a supposed bid to save money, they end up hiring quacks, probably a moderately experienced Mason, whose nickname is 'Engineer'. These guys have no formal technical knowledge and worst of all, they have no conscience. Homeowners who hire the right professionals, hardly get cheated, because most experienced building professionals only work with subcontractors and suppliers whom they have known and worked with for quite a long while, hence most of the aforementioned issues rarely occur, because no one wants to jeopardise a long - standing beneficial relationship. The bottomline is, hire a building professional you trust and he will bring on board suppliers & subcontractors he trust.

I run a Design & Build Consultancy in Abuja, and one of the things I often notice is that most clients don't do any preliminary work on their own before rushing to the site, they are in a haste to start buying blocks and cement, even before they have taken out time to fully understand the requirements of their project. That is why, before I commence any project, I ensure that a proper Bill of Quantity is prepared. This way, the owner can view item by item how much he will be spending on materials and labour. He can even decide to take the bill to several other professionals for vetting to be sure the quotes are correct. Finally, there should always be a building contract or some sort of agreement signed by the homeowner and his building contractor. This way everyone is clear on what their obligations are. Hiring professionals might look expensive initially, but it will always be cheaper in the long run, considering the damage quacks could do to your building project.

Dear Audi owners,

I created this thread for us to share ideas on things we have done to our beloved Audi cars.

For me I currently use an AUDI A4, B7, 2008, S-Line (2.0L straight) limousine

I've got my engine and transmission mounts changed as a preventive maintenance (i don't want to allow em to fail as they are OEM stock items). This is not a DIY install as it takes lots of effort. Sadly my engine has no turbo from the manufacturer

I have never done any DIY until lately when I started by replacing my AC and Engine air filters. (yeah, gotta start from the easy stuffs)

Next thing I want to do is to replace my wheel rotors and brakes (still using the OEM stock ones. They're still good but I gotta go for new ones)

Lets share ideas, maintenance issues etc.
