Celebrities / Re: E-Money Leaves Police Custody After Six-Hour Interrogation by esoorita: 12:11pm On May 13, 2020 |
tamdun: Professor Lumumba have said it all. He said that in Africa, your kinsmen will support you if you commit any financial impropriety because they hold the fervent belief that 'this thief is our son so he's not a thief'. I'm not suggesting at the least that E-money is a thief in this instance but I could see the pattern of his supporters and opposers singing from different hymn sheet which is predicated along tribal jingoism. I personally don't believe that the I.G.P should have ordered the investigation of E-Money. He should have just ordered the withdrawal of the policemen that were allocated to him. The real investigation into his financial dealings should have been carried out by the Inland Revenue by looking at his tax returns. If he's living a lifestyle that doesn't commensurate with the taxable income declared to the Inland Revenue, he would then need to be investigated. Once the Inland Revenue initiate an investigation about an individual, there's no hiding place as you will have to provide all the bank accounts that is linked to you and your business. If you are living an opulent lifestyle and you are paying peanut as tax, it means you are committing a financial crime against the state. Once it is established that the tax you are paying is irrelative to your income, the police will be brought into the matter to prosecute the accused person. I will be surprised however if E-Money can pass the litmus test of the Inland Revenue's tax investigation. The fact is that without fear of exaggeration, most so called rich people in Nigeria don't pay the correct amount of tax. They only pittance to obtain tax clearance whenever there's need to ascertain their tax status. This sort of practice can only happen in a corrupt society like Nigeria. 2 Likes |
Travel / Re: Prudent Hotel, Etemeteh Hotel To Be Demolished For Flouting Wike's Directives by esoorita: 11:16am On May 10, 2020 |
othermen: I'm always very scared about the reasoning mentality of Nigerians. How can any sane human being support the threat by Wike to demolish somebody's property because they fell foul of contravening the lockdown 'directive'? May I point out that a directive is not a law. The directive for the lockdown was issued as a result of the outbreak of Covic-19 because there wasn't such a directive in place prior to Covic-19. The reasonable thing to do once the directive was put in place is to specify the punishment that doled out to whoever contravenes the lockdown directive. In any sane society, the punishment will be monetary fines and the amount of the fine will be made known from the onset so that the people that contravenes the directive will know the score. No Governor or President has the power to order the demolition of somebody's property because of the contravention of a directive. This so called directive is not a law and there's no statutory provision in Nigeria's constitution for Covic-19. Wike hasn't got the constitutional power to demolish somebody's property simply because the person contravened the lockdown directive. The people on Nairaland supporting the threat issued by Wike are suffering from the hangover of abuse of power which was the norm in the era of military dictatorship which unfortunately took place for a very long time in the checkered history of Nigeria. |

rationalmind: Have you not heard of the economic theory of demand and supply? there are quite a lot of foreign used cars for sale in every corner of Nigeria. The price of cars is falling due to the fact that there are too many cars for sale in Nigeria. Another factor why those who bought their cars many years ago will find out that the value of their cars has plummeted because of the fact that the car is a wasting asset. |

ezekins: This country Nigeria is finished. I've given up on Nigeria after going through this thread. It's full of people justifying the unjustifiable, accepting the unacceptable and tolerating the intolerable. There are different species of human beings in Nigeria to the rest of the world. A country that has churches and mosques per square mile more than any country in the world and yet the people lack moral uprightness than atheist societies. 10 Likes |

spoton16: Thank you for your logical and reasonable contribution. I'm always appalled by the attitude of we Nigerians and indeed the black race towards each other. A young man who has just lost his wife who left behind two kids who are twins for that matter is asking for help on this forum and it's unbelievable that instead of addressing the reason why he's asking for help, he was being insulted and accused of being a scammer and a lazy man who doesn't want to earn a living to provide for his kids. Like the gentleman above me as reiterated, it is better you ignore the post if you are not willing to help rather than having a go at the poor guy. I have a firm believe that 'nobody takes pride in begging for something' If it is up to the person begging for something to make a choice, I'm sure that he or she would rather be in a position to give to others rather than begging. Life can be very unfair to an individual and every person insulting and deriding the young man should pray that may the good Lord never let them experience terrible hardship in life. If you okay today, it doesn't mean you'll be okay for life. If you are eating and your tummy if full up today, it doesn't mean that you should take it for granted that it's your birthright. I live in one of the advanced countries of the world. If what happened to this guy happens here, the social services and charities would support him robustly financially and he won't have any reason to beg individuals for assistance. Unfortunately, there is no such thing as social service or reputable charities in Nigeria so anybody that experience the tragedy this young man did is on his own. I'm very sure that if he comes from the same family with Innosson, Iwuayawun, Obi,Ezenwa etc there won't be any need for him to come to Nairaland to beg for assistance. I'm appealing to people who are trying to outdo one another in chastising the young man to desist from doing so. If you don't want to help him please don't hurt him with your vituperations. There's an adage in my area that says 'Today is different to tomorrow that is why the native doctor consults with the oracle everyday'. There's another adage that says 'He whose life is treating well should not refer to he who is suffering as a nonentity' because life can throw anything at anybody. No one is insulated from the travails of life. 1 Like |

DISHONEST CARS ADVERTISERS ON NAIRALAND I have tried in vain to buy cars advertised for sale on Nairaland but I'm horrified at the level of dishonesty displayed by people offering cars for sale. There are unlimited spurious claims about cars that are put up for sale. There was an instance where an advertiser claimed that the mileage of the car for sale is 85,000 miles whereas the car has done 289,000 miles. Another instance, the seller claimed that the car was registered in 2014 whereas it was registered in 2012. Another one claimed that a salvaged car with 218,000 miles is a clean car with only 67,000 mileage on the odometer. Most Nigerians complain about the government and politicians as being corrupt, but they forget that every individuals of a society has a duty to be upright and honest in the way they comport themselves in their dealings with others. Here in the U.K. you have to come clean with the facts when you are advertising a car for sale. You have to make it expressly clear if a vehicle has been involved in an accident and you have no right whatsoever to roll back the odometer because it is fraudulent and against the law. Why is it that it's too difficult for people in Nigeria to do things in the right way. You will hit a brick wall with a car seller as soon as you request for the VIN number because they know that all their dishonesty will be blown off. I think that it is high time that Nairaland should make a rule that advertisers of cars should mandatorily give the VIN of the cars advertised for sale on the forum. Looking forward to the contributions of Nairalanders on this topic. Happy Easter to all. 5 Likes |

You definitely have a problem mate. An accusation was made about the authenticity of your claim that the car you advertised as clean and non-accidental is indeed an insurance right off, you neither dispute nor accept the accusation but you continue repeating your initial claims repeatedly. You are a typical Nigerian with an absolute disregard for decorum. You will post your advert till kingdom come and I'll be surprised if any serious minded buyer shows an atom of interest. A seller is entitled to sell an insurance write off vehicle but the seller should be honest and be upfront about the issues with the vehicle rather than misleading the potential buyer. Insurance write offs are sold in Europe and America but the fact is that they will never advertised as a clean title vehicle. I believe the same thing should be happening in Nigeria. Nigerians complains about their leaders being dishonest but then quite a large percentage of Nigerians does not believe in honesty. Honesty is a virtue that every Nigerian should embrace. 1 Like |
