Abuja - The United States has commended Nigeria's efforts to curb the spread of the Ebola virus. The US Ambassador to Nigeria, James Entwistle, gave the commendation in Abuja while on a visit to the Minister of Health, Professor Onyebuchi Chukwu. The envoy said the aim of the visit was to discuss further on the anti-Ebola cooperation between the US government and the Nigerian administration. The Ambassador also praised the work done at the emergency operation centre and the isolation centre. “You have all seen the headlines over the weekend, this is an issue that we have to keep working hard on, it may be with us for a while but there are some encouraging signs. “Your government is doing a good job on contact tracing; I noticed when I flew back here on Thursday night into the country, before I left the plane I filed in the questionnaire.“I was very impressed because I had to put in my seat number which is a very good idea, so that if you have to trace the guy who was seating next to me you will know where I am. I have been very impressed by this thing so I encourage the government of Nigeria to keep at it, which I know they will,” he said. He added that the two countries had a broad partnership to keep collaborating, cooperating and working hard to make the world a better place. More than 1 000 people have died in West Africa from Ebola this year. Liberian-American, Patrick Sawyer, who died of the disease two weeks ago in Lagos, was the first local casualty.http://m.news24.com/nigeria/National/News/US-lauds-efforts-to-stop-Ebola-spread-20140819 |

Eldavido1: Around the 80s when cars where that cheap, the value of the naira to the dollar was #4 = $1. The had strong purchasing power then. Subsequently the value depreciated to the current level of #165 to $1. The lower purchasing power of the naira means you need more money to buy a product now than in the 80s for the same type of product.another confusing analysis. Pls brake it down more.as in primary school standard. Lol |
Eldavido1: lolz.....The depreciation of the naira happens!!!shade more light on that pls. |

Abakaliki - Sporting activities have waned considerably at the Abakaliki Township Stadium because people fear the spread of Ebola. The stadiumusually records a lot of sporting activities, especially in the morning, but now records a low turnout of people engaging in exercises. The few people who do come, now train individually instead of in group as they did in the past. In interviews with the media, the few brave said that though there had been no reported case of the disease in Ebonyi, they needed to be careful. Kevin Nnaji, a banker, said that the fear of the disease would not make him to stop 'walking-out' at the stadium.“The fear of Ebola will not deter me from going for my daily morning walk, but I now train with utmost caution.” “My wife tried to dissuade me from attending the sessions but I insisted on going, but I train alone and minimise contact with other people,” he said. Chinwe Ononye, a youth activist, said that he was scared of Ebola. “There is no way I can avoid all possible contact with people at the stadium because I engage in group exercises which involve body contact.” “I have to be cautious because the disease has been reported in neighbouring Enugu State, and one cannot detect those who have come in contact with victims,” he said. Okechukwu Mmegwa, a footballer, said that his local club was preparing for a competition and could not suspend training because of the spread of Ebola. “League matches went on across the country over the weekend despite the Ebola scare.” |
