PHONE ETIQUETE SEND TEXT FIRST: Please, when you call someone that you know does not have your phone number, and they do not pick up, the next thing you do is; send them a text message, with your name and whatever relevant info you wish to add. Personally, if I know that someone does not have my number, I do not even bother calling the person without 1st sending them a text message, that way the person already has an idea who is calling them. Many are ignorant of these simple phone- etiquette, they will call someone who does not have their number over 40 times and complain the person is not picking their phone. The person might be someone who does not pick unknown numbers, and so it is nothing personal towards you. Do best always to send text first, if the person does not return your text or call then you know the person maybe does not wanna talk to you. You can then decide how to go about it. BLOCK FEATURE: Every major phone now has a block feauture, days are gone when someone can call-hound someone endlessly and disturb their peace and rest for what seems like eternity, without end in sight. These days just a click on the phone will stop call hounders in their track. There is no need to call anyone more than 15 times at a go. If you call twice and they do not pick your call, send a text. If you are a delibrate phone stalker, block feauture akugo oru gi, na one time, you are blocked. POPULAR FIGURES: These includes. celebrities, politicians and high-placed men and women in society. You see if these people pick every phone call that comes into their phones, they will not have time to eat, think, breath and do that which is the reason they are who they are. When you get a hold of a number of a famous person, please before you call, send them a text message, as over 99% of them will not pick a call from from unknown numbers. Most times they do not even pick calls of numbers they know much less numbers they do not know. And honestly you cannot blame them because the number of calls that come in to their phones is just humongous, and so I believe they should decide how they handle it because mmadu aburo ewu. POLITICIANS: There are less than 3000 elected political office holders in Nigeria in a country of over 170 million persons. I am one of these privileged few thanks to the people of Ehugbo Omoloma who decided to pull a political mutiny and install a political nobody like me. And you know politics is the most attractive profession in Nigeria for obvious reasons, winkz. You do not need an oracle to clue you to the fact that a Nigerian politicians would be getting more calls than most people. It is very important you apply the rules I have written in this post when dealing with a politician. The higher the political post, the higher the calls, the higher the personality of the politician, the higher the calls. So please apply tack and patience when calling or texting a politician. Do not get easily irritated if they do not attend to you as fast as you would appreciate. It is not easy being green. NOTE: I am talking about elected political office holders, not those running for offices because during a election a politican can even pick a call from a rat, a monkey or a chimp. But after election reality hits and truly their reality also changes, if they win, the person will now get 100s of calls daily. GOVERNOR WAS MY FRIEND: Yes, he is still your friend but no longer in the same way. He is now the most powerful man in a state, with excess power and over-excess mula. Things are different. There are only 36 Governors in a country of over 170 million. Everybody and their grandmother wants to see the Governor, meet with him, show him this and that, give him proposals, etc. So understand that the governor, will now be very selective at the calls and texts he responds to. He is now excessively busy, he is not faking busy, he is busy. Governorship is neither Akara, moi-moi nor igbakwu. No be beans. It is basically 2nd to being a president. So understand that the Governor that used to take your calls so easily before he was elected might find it harder to do so now. The best and most effective way to contact a Governor is via test. You send a text then hope that lady luck smiles on you and he responds. YOU, if you happen to get the governor's contact through someone, if the Governor neither even knows you nor have your contact, do not call, please send him a text. If your message is compelling enough, he will get back to you. P/S: Do not judge any politician by the promises he/she made during election, judge him by what he does while in office if he is elected, this is important for your own peace of mind. PISSED OFF: Do not allow yourself to be pissed off because you have been trying to get a hold of a popular or powerful figure and your texts and calls are not being returned. It is not easy, not easy, as you are trying to get a hold of them, many others are also trying to get a hold of them. Just be patient and never show anger towards them in texts, if you try such, you lose out. Because they won't even know that one less person is so pissed off they won't be contacting them again. No no send. Ndidi ga eji eso nnukwu mmanwu. If you want something from anyone, you must be patient, you must play act like you do not even know you are being ignored, infact do not allow yourself to be pissed, when you send them texts, continue to be polite and matter-of-factly. Sooner or later, the nnukwu mmanwu will respond and if they don't it is not the end of the world. One door closes, another door opens, as long as you breath. BIG MAN BIG WAHALA: My fellow humans, as one big na so their wahala follow big. Their wahala no dey come small, e dey come in trailer most times. You are trying to reach that powerful big man and can't get through, most times not because he does not want to get back to you, but he might be having some serious problems, some times of Dasuki proportion or more. That is why I will continue to tell people never to be jealous or envious of anyone. You do not know what that person you think has it all is passing through, you don't unless they sit you down and tell you which is unlikely. One quater of big man walala can kill 100 normal people. Please bear this in mind when you are trying to get a hold of big kanunas. Personally when I am going through some roughie, taking calls is the last thought on my mind. Again berra send txt. Whenever I come out of my fog, I will resume nomalcy. TIP: Even if you know a popular/powerful figure well, the best way to always reach them is via text message. Send them texts, it is less invasive and more serene and if they find it relevant they will surely get back to you. Ihe aname adiro kwanu easy. BCEL: For me I rarely pick up numbers that are not in my contact. When I get such call, I will some times text a "send text" message to the unknown number. I expect the person behind the unknown number to return my a text message, with their name and whatever else they have to say. Even if I have your contact, if you call me a couple of times and I do not pick up, please send a text, do not call ad nausea. Because ihe di mmadu n'isi erika, and some times one is not in the mood to talk at all. Make my head cool small. Again for me, text message is so much more serene and less invasive especially when I need some serious mind rest. LOL. Imagine when I am in trance-like mode, thinking where I am gonna get the MULA and wherewithal to make Afikpo Omoloma Omolama, phone go ring. You think I go answer, mba nu. But if you leave a text message, I will surely get back to you when I am back from my trip to my inner-brain. SILENT MODE: To avoid thought-process interruption, when I am writing, meeting with my brain, in a meeting or doing anything that require my rapt attention, my phone will be put on silent mode, meaning I do not even have any idea that anyone is calling. Text message is best, if you send a text I will see it once I am done and it and attend to it. MEETING: Please if you are in a meeting, put your phone in silence. It is so rude and crude to continue to answer and make calls while you are in a meeting with others. Please respect others and do what is right when you are in a meeting with them. VISITOR: If you are a guest or visitor in someone's house, please minimize your use of phone. It is really de-classe to be on the phone constantly when you are in someone's house. It is rude, annoying and shows lack of class. When I visit people, I silence my phone and turn it back on when I leave. If you are going to be on the phone talking and texting while visiting people, please do it minimally. IDENTIFY YOURSELF IF ASKED: Please and please do not feel insulted when someone you feel should have your number inquires who is calling when you call them. Simply identify yourself. You do not know if they person lost their phone, had their phone stolen, bought a new phone, switched phone, etc. I am always happy to identify myself to anyone that asks on the phone because they have no reason to ask unless it is necessary. If you had given someone your number and they, for whatever reason, (which includes, forgetting to store it) did not store your number, please get over it and identify yourself whenever you are asked to do so, it will not take anything away from you.
