Well spoken and well said.. maybe jonatham has failed us, maybe he did nt do his work well.. but who wud u rather take d mantle.. seriously I think buhari is credible and good but he has ruled before and he shud give others chance to rule nigeria... Personally am begining to think dat the northeners thinks nigeria belongs to them.. they believe dey were born to rule. If jonathan does nt qualify again den lets look for anoda person from the south east and west but not the north... shikina |
Such statement like dis shud nt be left to go free... I used to respect dis man for his hard work and success on imo state but I also forgot he is a member of APC. fine since jonathan cant stop it, then he shud stop it... How I miss our warrior.. sir odumegwu ojukwu ,atleast he wud have greeted Nigeria goodmorning in thr afternoon.. these are things he saw before d civil war and he tried fighting against it but dats in d past now... |
wonderful article, wonderful analysis and wonderful conclusion.. the only problem I have with this article is dat the problem was nt addressed... y are these boko haram fighting with so much impetus, have u asked ur self?.. who is boko haram.. Nigeria has always relied on the northern states to produces d nations armies and warlords. Only a few percentage of them come from the east and west.. dats one problem.. now I also think some body in Govt is behind d activity of these insurgents we really need to fish out these pple and den deal with this animals, then the last point shud be dat our military sometimes supply and tell the soldiers wat to do and wat nt to do.. some confessions of some soldiers say dat dey were given strict orders not to go here and there.. ... so how do we fight who we are assisting... or else where do boko haram get these weapons from if dey are also being blocked at cameroon.. we are our problems.. thank u |
PORTHARCOURT AND OIL MONEY..... AM WATCHING OOOOO |

Abuja— Two prominent Nigerian religious leaders the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar III, and the National President of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, yesterday, openly differed on the war being waged against Nigeria by the Boko Haram insurgents. Sultan of Sokoto and Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, CAN President Although the two religious leaders agreed that the Boko Haram sect had committed serious havoc against the country and its people, they disagreed sharply on why the sect has continued to unleash unabated violence on the nation. The two men of God spoke at a roundtable meeting with special advisers on religious affairs drawn from the 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory held at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The programme with the theme “Toward synergising and interfacing in the religious sector for national development” organised by the Offices of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Islamic and Christian Matters was declared open by Vice President Namadi Sambo. In effect, Abubakar had insisted that Islamic leaders had done their best to dissuade the sect from committing further destruction of lives and property while the CAN President punctured the claim, saying that the Islamic leaders had not done enough in that regard. Muslim leaders have tried so much—Sultan According to the Sultan, Islamic leaders have “tried so much” to preach against the activities of the sect but Oritsejafor said such effort was not strong enough to prevent the insurgents from further mayhem. The Sultan maintained that there was no problem between Islam and Christianity in Nigeria, pointing out that if there was any problem between the two major religions, it would have been dealt with at that level. Abubakar, however, blamed the rising level of insurgence on lack of education about religions which breeds lack of trust and sincerity. He regretted that while Islamic leaders have continued to condemn the insurgents, they are still being accused of not doing enough. This, he said, was not fair to the religious leaders. He said, he had personally gone across the globe to preach peace and uphold the fact that there is no problem between Islam and Christianity. In his quest for peaceful relationship between adherents of the two religions, the Sultan said he had written two separate lengthy letters to the Catholic Pope and the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He said when people were asking Islamic leaders to sit with insurgents and discuss, they fail to note that the current situation could not be compared to the activities of militants in the Niger Delta. Abubakar said: “In a situation where Muslim leaders condemn insurgents and they will still be told they have not done enough. That is not fair. We don’t tell ourselves the truth. Followers are not telling the leaders the truth, and the leaders will think they are doing the right things. “If the governor in Sokoto is told that he should sponsor four people to Christian pilgrimage, so be it. It is government’s fund. If a land is needed in Kano for a church, they should get it after following the due process. “Muslim leaders have tried so much. I have gone across the globe to say that there is no problem between Islam and Christianity. We are not going deep enough —Oritsejafor Oritsejafor said: “But if we would come together there must be sincerity, equality, fear of God and genuine love for one another. The problem with gatherings like this is that if we are not careful it becomes an occasion for good photographs, we shake hands, we talk very nicely, we are all politically correct. We don’t want to offend each other. Please let’s offend each other, we need to. Because if we don’t offend each other, we will not tell each other the truth and that is part of Nigeria’s problem. “If you come out to say certain things, there are those who feel you are rocking the boat, but God is in the boat, the boat will not sink. Let us talk to each other, let’s tell the truth to each other and let’s not sweep it under the carpet. When we finish the opening ceremony and you go into the close door session, lay all the cards on the table. “It is truth your Eminence that Christianity and Islam have no problem but I’m glad you said, there could be problem between Christians and Muslims and the reason is because probably we are not going deep enough.” Likening Nigeria to the boat in the Holy Bible that wanted to sink with Jesus Christ on board but did not sink, he noted that many things have happened in Nigeria that have rocked the boat, but the boat has remained standing. He said: “Some are religious, political, tribal, but different things have happened that have rocked the boat. But let me still thank the Lord that the boat is still floating.” Querying why a church in the North in the last 30 years have not been able to get a Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for land, he said any mosque or church should be able to get C of O anywhere in the country. Letter to Boko Haram He charged the Sultan to also write a letter to Boko Haram to stop their attacks and not just the letter to the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). He said: “His Eminence said he wrote a letter to ISIS, I have to truly congratulate you for that because that was a very good move. I didn’t know about it until today and I am so glad it happened. But I want to appeal that you also write to Boko Haram because Boko Haram is worst than ISIS. They have killed more people than ISIS, they have caused more atrocities than ISIS. They need to be written to as well, it is very important it will help.” |
The President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Gary Enwo-Igariwey, yesterday in Lagos, said an Igbo man cannot be President of Nigeria because of lack of unity in leadership roles. According to him, Igbo are hardworking, resilient and law abiding, but fall short of leadership role because of lack of recognition of leadership ethics and discipline. Enwo-Igariwey, who was the guest speaker at the public presentation of the Igbo centenary book, 100 Years of Amalgamation: Igbo, What Hope in Nigeria, by a Lagos-based journalist, Peter Anosike, said every Igbo wants to be leader at the same time. According to him “if we can solve this problem by trying to learn from our mistakes and believe that there can only be one leader at a time, then we can succeed as a people.” He said Igbo had huge investments all over the country and that with all the respect and recognition they had earned, they still lacked unity over leadership tussles, as could be seen even in town union meetings. He said: “It does not have to be the strongest or the richest. Anyone can be supported to succeed. If we unite, people will be afraid of us.” Chairman of the occasion, Chief Nwabueze Obi, Executi-ve Director, Cabotage, Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, said: “We are nomadic. Over 90 percent of our investments are outside Igboland. “If you go anywhere and do not see an Igbo man, then it is not habitable. If we can channel these gifts to have a united front, we can succeed.” He appealed to all Igbo to be submissive to authority. |
Ex militant commanders in the Niger Delta have warned members of the House of Representatives to refrain from its alleged move to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan, saying that some of the law makers had lost the respect of Nigerians. Speaking under the aegis of Leadership, Peace and Cultural Development Initiative, a forum of the former militant commanders in the region, the President of the group, Mr Reuben Wilson reassured President Jonathan of their support, promising that they would resist any move to embarrass him. He said as former commanders of the militant groups, they were watching the unfolding developments, adding that at the appropriate time they would act within the confines of the law. “They call themselves honourable members. But I can say that for legislators to scale the fence of the National Assembly to gain entry into the hallowed chambers, they have lost the respect of the public. It is only criminals that jump fences to gain entry into places, honourable people do not behave like that. “We are watching what they are doing. Let me inform them that their latest attempt at impeaching the president will fail. The Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal should do the honourable thing by vacating his seat because the law says when you defect to another party; you automatically lose your seat. “How would he eat his cake and still have it? Tambuwal wants to discredit the president so that his new party can gain favour in the eyes of the public. What happened on Thursday was a continuation of their so-called Salvation rally. “You can imagine some APC leaders threatening to take laws into their hands and form a parallel government if their party loses in the 2015 elections. It was not up to 24 hours after that threat that the show of shame was displayed on Thursday. If they wanted to actually go and sit for their legitimate legislative duties, why did they go in a commando style as if they were thugs? “We know what they are doing and we are watching them. They should not push us to the wall, because if they do, we shall react.” This country belongs to all of us and we are equal stakeholders. We cannot take any rubbish from anybody; no matter who they think they are. They should watch their backs,” he said. |

Abuja — As the strike embarked upon by its members bites harder, the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) Tuesday gave fresh insights into why the strike won’t be called off, thereby calling for understanding of members of the public. Chairman of JOHESU, Ayuba Wabba, who briefed journalists after a meeting of the union with its affiliate bodies in Abuja, accused the Federal Government of failing to implement any of the rulings from the National Industrial Court in favour of its members, saying: “Where circulars were issued by the federal Ministry of Health, the various federal institutions have flagrantly disobeyed such directives without proper sanction from the ministry, which is a case of the tail wagging the dog.” He categorised the main demands of the union into three: unconditional and immediate implementation of all collective bargaining agreement and Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) signed with JOHESU; full implementation of all judgments in favour of JOHESU by the National Industrial Court of Nigeria; and the implementation of all outstanding demands. Meanwhile, the Supervising Minister of Health, Khaliru Alhassan, yesterday alerted on how the current strike by health workers had further made Nigeria vulnerable to another possible outbreak of Ebola disease. The minister, who spoke with journalists in Abuja yesterday, appealed to the workers to return to work, saying that government had done its own part of the bargain. He said: “We are therefore appealing to members of the JOHESU to come back while we continue to negotiate. For them to leave their place of work is putting a lot of stress on the system and especially on our war against Ebola. JOHESU has a lot of role to play as members of the health team in the prevention of further outbreak of Ebola. “Keeping away from their duty post is putting Nigeria at risk. We should have the interest of Nigeria in our minds.” He, therefore, appealed to the health workers to put the interest of Nigerians first while making their demands, adding: “We have done the best of ability and have concluded actions that are supposed be done on the part of the federal Ministry of Health. We are doing them and we will continue to abide by our resolution. “We have been negotiating with Joint Health Sector Union (JOHESU) since day one. We have been talking and we have made passionate appeal that there is only one way for us to resolve these issues through negotiation.” Wabba said: “Between year 2010 and now, when negotiations commenced, JOHESU had met with the Federal Government on more than 10 occasions with no fruitful headway in resolving the issues in dispute. Instead, the Federal Government has been treating our demands with disdain and levity; not minding that our members constitute 95 per cent of entire workforce in the health sector. While we constitute to solicit the patience of our members who have become extremely restive as demonstrated when one of the unions in the health sector made good its threat to embark on strike due to frustration, JOHESU had continued to wait eternally and allow government time with the hope of doing the right thing. “The Federal Government’s ineptitude and unwillingness to make any meaningful progress on our demands for more than three years now had exposed us to ridicule and insult from the rank and file of our members. Instead of addressing issues in dispute, the Federal Government’s continued tactics of filibustering has in no way helped matters.” He recalled that the National Industrial Court of Nigeria had ruled that JOHESU members were entitled to skipping of CONHESS 10; eligible to be appointed consultants and should earn specialist allowance; should be promoted to Director on CONHESS 15; and members are right to skip CONHESS 10, just as other civil servants do for Grade Level 11. He further said: “On the issue of unconditional and immediate implementation of all collective bargained agreements and MoUs signed with JOHESU, the federal Ministry of Health has been finding it difficult to honour agreements wilfully entered into with JOHESU. Such agreements border on addressing the lopsidedness in the membership and composition of boards of management of tertiary health hospitals and increasing in retirement age of health workers from 60 to 65. “The Federal Government was, and is still grossly unwilling to adjust the CONHESS salary structure of JOHESU members despite the glaring injustice and distortion in salary with COMMESS despite earlier agreeing that earlier adjustment in COMMESS has distorted the parity and ratio of CONHSS and COMMESS. “JOHESU has overly been patient with the Federal Government in the face of glaring injustice, insensitivity and extreme provocation by the Federal Government. We have been long suffering, mature and over patriotic, which also has its limits. The strike going on is, therefore, a matter of last resort to address government’s lack of commitment, reciprocal goodwill extended to it by JOHESU in resolving our demands on a permanent basis.” Source: the Guardian |
