I don't see any reason why Nigerian government shouldn't buy 4++generation jets. It's just simply stupidity.
Boko haram attacks in Nigeria is more of suicide bombing at least 85% of their attack. You won't need fighter jets to fight suicide bombers.
The rumor of UK wants Alamesiagha back to continue his trials. The guy died from the shock and the newspapers said they only brought up an old news and reframeed it. The family have sued the newspaper company. UK never even requested for him or even talked about him.
There are still pockets of BH militant activities and installations that would need the doctoring of competent 4++ gen. aircrafts and pilots that know their business.
lol,are you saying that the great Alamesiagha was murdered by a scandalous newspaper article?,treasonous!,preposterous!..hehehehe..
Nigeria media can do terrible things to a person's well-being.
RIP to chief Alamesaigha.

You know how our politicians and military chiefs behave, they seem afraid of buying anything above alpha jets and partially rusted tanks from the babylonian era for our armed forces.Even to buy common communication gadgets is a headache for our policy makers, our soldiers need to load N2000 glo airtime and crawl up to the peak of the mandara mountain to get network in sambisa forest,in order to brief the command centre.
wetin kuku concern MTN,glo and co.
its sad.

Concerning suicide bombings, our military/intelligence agencies need to beef up intelligence gathering and mass anti-radicalisation outreach,by:
(I) Engaging the local communities; sensitizing them on the need to cooperate with the law enforcement agencies to ensure peace.
(II) Employing renown local islamic clerics by giving them full access to use social media,tv and radio stations in preaching and broadcasting anti-terrorism messages all over the affected area.
(III) Installing checkpoints and blockades all over major and secondary highways throughout the NE.
(IV) Enticing the local populace to cooperate with the authorities and volunteer useful information by promising them money or livestock.
(V) Infilterating BH ranks, from the leadership down to the stooges.
(VI) Constant aerial/satellite surveillance and reconaissance.
(VII) Using amplified loudspeakers to broadcast daily anti-BH propaganda messages all over the NE.
(VIII) Mass distribution of handbills and quran written in local dialect(s).
etc....

when I heard the news i was shocked but after seeing fighter jets helicopters etc I new it was fault cos boko haram issue is no longer requiring fighter jet but intelligence. We need to do something about this suicide bombers quickly. DHQ has denied it and am sure the newspapers that started this will be in trouble. This was the same thing that caused Alamesiagha his life few weeks ago.
I found it both amusing and horrifying at the same time, dont our journalists even know what a fighter jet is?,if only the military was very dedicated on the PR front, they could have taken proper advantage of the media's ignorance.
As for the Anti-BH campaign,we still need modern aerial assault platforms to help us weaken/destroy heavily fortified ground targets,if our government is too stingy to buy 4++ gen. multirole combat jets, then let us acquire weaponized trainer/ground attack aircrafts for COIN.
I dont understand the Alamesiagha part of your post though, could you educate me on that.

Nigerian media has become so misguided and uncultured, our journalists have become disturbingly fond of waking up in the morning and squeezing fake news out of their balls!; I was quite astonished yesterday when I read the news about Nigeria hiring 350(imagine!) SA mercenaries to fight BH.I further noted the reporter mentioning that the "mercenaries" will bring along "fighter jets and tanks" to prosecute the war against BH; then I asked myself, what sort of "mercenaries" own personnal fighter jets?.
How can mercenaries have fighter jets and tanks?: vanguard, punch and other news outlets claimed to have gotten their reports from "anonymous military sources".
It is time for our journalists to stop fabricating lies that can be detrimental to national security,in their greedy jostle to clinch the "best journalist of the year" award.
Accurate report has later surface from the DHQ:

sorry but I'm a lil confused
I heard Balogun is a 15mins trek to Oke odo junction

or are there two baloguns in Ilorinhuh
forgive my curiousness
Balogun is quite big, from balogun to oke odo junction can take 10 minutes to trek, but the part of balogun where the apartment is located leads directly to the junction before the school gate.
So you just have to take a taxi from school gate directly to school park.
If you are going towards the direction of school, you pass oke odo before you get to balogun junction.

Angels are messengers true but Hebrews is talking about angelic beings not prophets of old.
Angels in New Testament mean angelic beings unless you read different bibles than myself.

When you are not busy being confused, please read through Hebrews 1.

Hebrews 1:6 (KJV)
And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten into the world, he saith, And let all the angels of God worship him.

Where do you find God commanding 'prophets of old' to worship Jesus when Jesus is born?

Cc Gombs,Image123,Scholar8200,Joagbaje
Michael isnt an angel,he was referred to as an "arch-angel",the word 'arch' means leader or ruler or chief.
If Michael was referred to as the "ruler(chief) of angels",then wouldnt all angels worship him as was written in Hebrews 1:6?.
Again, you tend to disregard the old testament accounts of the identity of Michael.

Hebrews is New Testament so angels here mean angels .
If angels are sons and Jesus is a Son, then what contrast is being made? Isn't it nonsensical saying God did not say this to any of his angels but he said it to his angel?
Supposing v5 is talking about men not angels.
Hebrews 1:4-5 King James Version (KJV)
4 Being made so much better than the MEN, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 For unto which of the MEN said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

If God gave Jesus a name better than MEN and he never said 'thou art my son' to any MAN but He said so to Jesus, Jesus can't be a man. Comprehndehuh
Hebrew was talking about "messangers",the original meaning of angel is messanger.
Hebrew 1 was referring to the prophets of old.
Why would the old testament refer to angels as "sons of God",and the new testament say otherwise?.

Hebrews 1 dwells at length on why Jesus is not an angels but a Son. Read 4-14. Look
Hebrews 1:4-5 King James Version (KJV)
4 Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they.
5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son?

-Jesus is MUCH BETTER than angels
-God said to Jesus and not any of his angels , 'you are my son'
Jesus being sent from God may be regarded as a messenger as far as His assignment is concerned, and it is with this that Reformers called Jesus Michael, but Jesus is clearly the Creator not a Creature like angels
The old testament refers to angels as "sons of God",the books of Genesis 6:4,Job 1:6,2:1 referred to angels as "sons of God",was the old testament referring to Jesus(using plural "sons")?.

calm down. SADAC nations have a common history, they do have worked well as a federation. SADAC nations actually have a reason to bond. We would have had a reason to bond if we had a strong enough leader to bind us together. Do not confuse issues every successful international organisation was successful because of the dominance of a single power, examples are: IMF, BRETTON WOODS and the UN.
The European concert system failed due to the absence of British dominance, the gold monetary system failed when Britain pulled out of it, the League of Nations failed because congress would not ractify America's membership. I can go on and on. In every successful international organisation there is always an hegemon a power broker.
I am not asking anybody to dominate anybody but I am just saying that is the reality of the international system
Superb post.

By your own admission it is not Nigeria who controls ECOWAS... but France
Not so,take for example the EPA that was bandied around by the EU,Nigeria stood its ground and rejected the terms stipulated in the EPA even when countries like Ghana were already hovering their pen on paper,ECOWAS had no choice but to demand a review of the terms stated in the EPA.
Recently,President of Benin,Boni Yayi, referred to Benin as the 37th state of Nigeria, even though Benin is a francophone country.
There is practically no distinction between Nigeria,Ghana and Benin both culturally and socially.
However, there are limits to hegemony of any regional power(as is evident in the relationship between the US and Venezuela),especially when these countries have foreign powers to fall back on.
France maintains too much influence on its former colonies, including currency(CFA Francs) and capital/forex market control: antagonizing with dumb brute force is counter-productive.

Well, there are places where God did manifested as an Angel, but claiming that Jesus was first Michael before he actually became Jesus, lacks merit and does not have any biblical bearing.
The book of Daniel chapters 10 and 12 are strong biblical references to the identity of Michael.
Why was Michael referred to as one of the "chief princes"?,why was he called "the great prince of israel"?,wasnt jesus also called "prince of the people of israel"?,if so,can israel have two princes?.
Why did the book of Revelations narrate the battle of heaven in the context of: "Michael and his hosts",is Michael the commander of the hosts of heaven?,if so,why did Isaiah say jesus shall establish the throne of david with "judgement and justice"?,and why did the old testament refer to God as "the lord of host"?,can the heavenly hosts have two commanders?.

@DictatorZar thinks that international politics is like a school yard game of see-saw and skipping rope.I weep for Africa,is this the quality of graduates produced by South African universities?.
Do you think SA would have been able to do anything other than make noise if Botswana had really wanted an AFRICOM base on its soil?,SADC is different from ECOWAS,France practically rules at least 9 of the ECOWAS states; even PMB admitted it on international media.
Out of the 9 francophone 'neo-colonies' in west africa, only 4 can be said to be "moderately independent".Nigeria maintains control in ECOWAS due to its provision of electricity to all its neighbours, financial aid to ECOWAS countries, domination of trade and investment in the region, strong military presence and diplomatic clout. However,we cannot authoritatively dictate to ECOWAS governments because of the staggering degree of french neo-colonial influence,it could lead to loss of regional support.
Even the US cannot fight 9 of its neighbours simultaneously.

Richirich713:
Doesn't Michael mean- "Who is like God" a rhetorical question?
Honestly I can't see Michael being jesus, cuz in Epistle of Jude he speaks of jesus and Michael in a manner that seems to indicate they are not the same.
For eg he starts the epistle calling jesus Lord and uses the name jesus to refer to Jesus but in verse 9 says :
"But when the archangel Michael, contending with the devil, was disputing about the body of Moses, he did not presume to pronounce a blasphemous judgment, but said, ‘The Lord rebuke you.’” Jude 1:8-9
If he meant jesus it's strange that he nw refers to Jesus as Michael.
Then just afterwards he again speaks of jesus again being his Lord.
Mi'chael was the name of Jesus before he was born in flesh as the christ.
Infact, their are theological hypothesis supporting the notion that God's first creation were two powerful seraphims(or arch-angels),one on his right(jesus) and the other on his left(lucifer).

What have you done nothing, both Niger Chad and Cameroon will now encircle you with foreign military powers.
Nonsense, encircle us for what?,70% of BH militants are from Cameroon and Chad, these countries need foreign military aid as much as possible.
Moreover, their isnt any AFRICOM base in Cameroon, therefore it is obvious that US footprint in Cameroon is temporal.
Lol,threatening Niger,Chad and Cameroon with diplomatic, economic and military action will pitt us against France, which is a nuclear power. The dynamics in SADC is vastly different from that in ECOWAS; 9 of the 14 ECOWAS countries are former french colonies,if we openly defy western tendencies without proper regional concensus,we may end up losing regional support.

Christianity Etc › CONTROVERSY: Biblical Linking Of Arch-angel Michael And Jesus by EVarn(op): 3:40pm On Oct 16, 2015
PART 1:
.
There have been many controversies concerning who Jesus was before he was born in flesh.
Diverse evidences have been presented; however, the most outstanding scriptural references strongly support the notion that Jesus Christ was actually Arch-angel Michael.
Firstly, the name "michael" means "one who is like God"; We will come back to this in PART 2.
Let us examine,Dan 10:5-21 and Dan 12:1.
verse 13 of the first passage says:
"But the prince of the kingdom of persia{*satan} withstood me for twenty-one days: but,lo,Mi'chael, one of the chief princes{*one of the two seraphims of the presence of God},came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia."
In the second passage(Dan 12:1):
"And at that time shall Mi'chael stand up,the great prince which stand for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book."
.

Last time I checked they share a border with you and those US soldiers will be deployed on the side where they share a border with you.

It has everything to do with you because you exported the terror to your neighbours when your coward soldiers allowed them to occupy land in Nigeria before the very same Cameroon and Chad came to rescue your incompetent army.

This is a reflection on the weakness of Nigeria that it cannot prevent the export of terror to its smaller neighbours. Now a foreign occupying power will be on your doorstep.

So much for Nigeria the giant of magical vudu armed forces.

Now go do what you do best and ban horse riding like you did with broom riding in your NE

I think it is time for retired military men to begin finding their way into Nigerian politics, the military doesnt seem to have a strong voice in parliament.
It is encouraging that Gen. Dambazzau has been confirmed as a minister of the FRN.
Also, our privately owned defence companies should begin to integrate themselves with influencial senators and honourables, paving way for the chance to lobby, fund and advertise their products, the same way Dangote,Glo,Nigerian Brewries,Innoson,MTN,Royal Shell and some other big companies are all doing.
They cant simply sit down in their manufacturing plants and expect big contracts to drop into their lap out of thin air.

All this begi begi Nigeria is doing for weapon and training; we seek aid and training from the US,UK,Canada,Germany,France,at this point in time, should we even be accepting free aid anymore?,with all our potential,it is indeed disturbing.
Why do we even need to source infantry training from Europe?,dont we have better options here in Africa?,what happened to the veterans of the bush war?,why cant we bring them in to train our men and improve our doctrine?,what happened to the lionhearts who fought in our civil war?,why cant we bring these men back to share their training and vast experience?
what happened to the veteran ethiopian and eritrean battle-hardened highly skilled soldiers?,why cant we bring together the best military minds in Africa to overhaul our TRADOC and build a highly-skilled infantry force that would rival even the world best marines?..

But no,what our politicians know how to do best is to wear agbada and speak english in the parliament, too caught-up in their political schemes.

I'm of the opinion that Lt. Gen. Buratai and his red collar committee made a tactical error in reinstating the 5000 soldiers that were accused by the previous of CoAS of wrongfully maneovering out of the theatre of combat.
Why do I say this?,simple: 3 days ago,Geidam was attacked by a detached unit of BH militants who were probably hoping for a quick raid on NA armoury.Instead of posing rapid coordinated resistance, the soldiers stationed at Geidam were absent from duty and later sluggish in repelling the BH probe(it isnt even worthy of being called an "attack"wink, even after DHQ has provided all the necessary equipments and logistics, some elements of the army infantry force are still lackadiasical in their approach towards carrying out their constitutional duties. There was a reason for the former CoAS's action,I think we should learn to implement policies in continuity.

It isnt as simple as that,Russia's gallivanting in Syria is playing straight into IS hand.
If care is not taken,by next year, nations will be opening embassies and consulates in the new daesh caliphate, recognizing IS as a legitimate government.
If the US(and all of NATO) + Saudi + Israel decides to make a U-turn and start full blown support of the entire ISIL + ISIS simply to frustrate the nascent Russian coalition, then we should simply save ourselves the trouble and cede the entire core middle east to them.
Russia should be sensible in its intervention in Syria; it is perfectly clear to even the most amateur military analyst that airstrikes dont win COIN/CT wars.
Nigeria,Singapore and Algeria have won their CT wars due of coordinated military efforts that involves airstrikes, special forces and large scale dedicated infantry assualts; Russia is only focused on airstrikes.
