Thanks for this thread bro
I finished secodary school 2016 and since i can't afford to further(Dad left us and mum is a petty trader) i began working with a bricklayer as a labourer until recently that i had a fracture on my leg and can no longer continue.
I have passion for programming and internet related stuffs so i am trying to purchase a laptop next month.
Please can anyone help me develop a skill that can sustain me and possibly build a career on it?
Please help a brother.
please for those sending me PM, I don't really know how Nairaland messaging system works, I usually see a notification that I have a mail and when click on it to check it I will be taken to my mail box but I don't see anything

If you want to give a try, send me a PM. Blogging is similar to book publishing. However, make up your mind on what you want (primary) then pursue it. I publish books and I'd keep doing that for a long time because it works for me. You may choose to redefine and stick to blogging, go into programming or join me in publishing. You can even combine book publishing with blogging but follow your heart.
I have sent you a Pm, I wish to know everything about it

Coming from blogging, book publishing shouldn't be hard for you. You can give it a try. It's a great hustle.
yea blogging is a fun for me and I blog full time, I can I actually stay in front of my computer for 24 hours without feeling tired but I don't know about book publishing

Well, my advice for you is to start learning on your own for a while, after that you can look for someone with experience to take you through some of the problems you will face. I started programming on my own(self taught), it was difficult at first but with dedication, time and passion, it worked.

I will tell you to learn one language at first, master it very well and do most things with it because if you are learning everything together at the same time, you won't be able to grab it at all.

No age limitation in programming, as it depends on your time, passion, start with Python(recommended) as it is easy to learn and the syntax is like English, good to read.

If you need any assistance, you can send me a message

Thanks for your suggestions, I will try to learn on my own as you suggested and see if I can understand it
Programming / Re: Please Help Me Become A Programmer If You Can by Everest9(m): 8:59am On Mar 19, 2020
samuelson06:

Why not do something else? I don't recommend that age for programming; not because your head can't carry it but because you may have to deal with responsibilities. If you start learning programming now, when would you finish so that you can start using the knowledge to make money?

Learning programming is like opening book chapters and to know the book you must read to the end. I'm talking about learning different programming languages. There are a lot of them. Programming also requires sitting in a place for long hours. Can you do that? Are you still under your parents so that they give you cover while you concentrate on sorting codes?

Do you have a great laptop with 4GB least RAM size? I'd recommend programming for a child but not for an adult with lots of responsibilities. Programming is too broad. However, if you focus on Android programming, you can get to the peak of it and start creating apps with Android Studio that you can monetize with Admob and upload to the Playstore. The more apps you can create, the better for you. But if planning to study programming and work for an organization such as Andela, I won't encourage you. You'd have to give at least 4 years into it and you'll need lots of money to buy courses.

Bro thanks a lot for your input but as I said earlier, I am a blogger and I take care of myself through blogging, though I don't earn much like some popular bloggers but at least between 2015-2017 I was making between N160,000 - 200k plus per month until Google made some changes that pushed my site down. However, am actually doing well in blogging but I don't want to live a life that depends on Google, you eat when Google decides and became hungry when they decide and that's the truth about blogging. Please I still need this help

Please my fellow Nairalanders, I need serious help, I need to become professional programmer but I need one on one teaching and I don't mind relocating to any state to achieve this.

I know many will ask me to start online course and learn how to program in different languages but the truth is that most times I don't really understand those online courses and I prefer one on one tutorial. Though I am sure it will not be easy to find a professional programmer who will have time for this but if God touches your heart to help me please do it and I will forever remain faithful.

presently, I am a blogger and by God's grace I am doing a bit well but something pushed me to think about programming. Actually, I am not asking anyone to do this for free but honestly, I don't have much to offer or at least not to compare to the skill I wish to acquire.

I wouldn't like to share everything about my life here but the reason why I decided to become a programmer at all cost is because that's the only option for me, I dropped out of University because of money and became a blogger in 2012, I can read codes and edit them but can't code from scratch.

I am writing this with tears, I actually have brothers leaving abroad who are doing well, buying lands and other properties, they have all it takes to help me but no one cared that is why I need to respond to them positively, I believe that if I become a programmer I will have good opportunity to succeed on my own.

Please as I said earlier, am not asking this for free but if God touches your heart to help me, please do, I don't mind relocating for this

Autos / Re: N1,200,000 or Less Tokunbo Cars by Everest9(m): 6:20pm On Mar 13, 2020
odimbannamdi:

Hello bro. I admire how detailed and thoughtful your submission is. Usually, i love to sit back, read and learn from more experienced folks regarding the age-long tradeoff between fuel economy and luxury of cars in Nigeria. But i am now compelled to lend my own voice.

First, my own definition of a luxury and pocket-friendly car is a Honda Pilot 2004 and above model or an Acura MDX 20404 and above model. Of course, our comparator will be the almight Corolla.. cheesy. My research so far has been centred around them, so i have a little theoretical knowledge about them.

This fuel economy issue is usually blown out of proportion by us. As long your Acura is bought tokunbo with no issues reported, the fuel consumption will not be significant at all.

Let us do a little maths. If we were to buy the Acura and Corrolla from Amdman, the difference between both 2004 models will be around 300k in favour of the Corrolla. Then lets say the cost difference between weekly fuel purchases is 2k extra for the Acura

So, it will take 2 years of having to buy fuel on a weekly basis before we expend 208k from that 300k extra we would have spent in getting the Corrolla.

Lets look at the maintenance. Assuming we spend an extra 10k on the Acura (in relation to the Corrolla) for bi-monthly general maintence, it will take us 2years to expend 120k. Total of 328k.

So it will take a whole 2 years of enjoying your Acura before the overall cost of ownership equates with that of the Corolla.

Now, lets look at the luxury aspect. It is a very subjective thing, so i will speak from my own aspect. Luxury begets productivity. If i am well comfortable, my productivity will be very high. All my travel time will be spent in my car, and thanks to Lagos traffic, travel time will run into several hours. So i deserve to get maximum comfort during those traumatic hours.

Finally, lets look at societal perception. E get the kind car wey you go use enter area like this, everybody go dey hail you anyhow, dem no go know sey brother Kazeem Corolla fit buy the motor get change sef. But my own full ground remain...lol. even for express sef, danfo go dey fear to scratch you gaaan coz sorry fit no end am...lol. Corrolla just dey everywhere. It is just too common jare.

Summarily, i will choose luxury over fuel-economy anytime because the Nigerian bias has made fuel-economy expensive. You will find yourself spending more in the short time as against the luxury option where you will spend it in the long term at your pace.

God wey give us money to use buy car, go give us money for fuel.

Thanks a lot for the info, I really don't like these Corollas because I don't see anything special about them but based on general recommendation, people like it because of parts availability and low fuel consumption. I wouldnt like to buy a ride that I will be going from shop to shop looking for parts. But you maths is well understood

Hello Guys, I have been following this thread from page one but never commented because there are 3 categories of people viewing this page.

1. People that really want to buy a ride but looking for real value for their money.
2. People that are getting close and almost ready but not yet sure which ride to go for and as well looking for a better offer.
3. People that don't even have up to 200k but playing to God to pick their call or should I say working hard to see if they can own their own car.

Obviously, I belong to the third category, I really need a ride not actually for fun but you need to take kids to the school, go to church and other things but it starts by watching pictures and working hard to be able to make up the funds so don't blame those of us that watch the pictures and price.

Fuel economy debate!

I have seen what you guys had to say about whether we should consider fuel consumption as a priority before buying a car or not. I want to chip in something. None of you are wrong but we must know something very important.

Life is level by level, there are some people who have outgrown fuel problems, there are also people who change cars yearly or every 2 years and their problem is not actually how the car consumes fuel because it can't consume what they cannot afford.

On the other hand, what about those of us who cannot afford even a Nigerian used car at least for now, what makes you think it will be easy for us to spend let say 5k to 10k weekly fueling a car. My brother it depends on your level, I will rather stick to a ride that will take lesser fuel for now but my problem is that any car in that category is always expensive compared to some luxury rides.

I will disagree with my guys saying that going for a fuel economy car is poverty, that's not true. Trying to live above your level will actually do more harm than good, a wise man will always live according to his level not actually buying a luxury car that you can't even fuel and maintain comfortably.

Finally, the choice is always our's go for any ride that pleases you and to be honest, I have seen some Acura SUV at 1 million + here that made me shake my head and say God when but am always confused to see this Corolla 2004-2008 at the same price or even above. When it comes to the physical look and luxury those Corolla is nothing to be compared to the Acura SUV am seeing here but since I don't know anything about cars maybe some expert will know the reasons why Acura SUV is this cheap.

Oh! I forget to say that I am planning to buy my own ride but my pocket is still blind and watching this thread and what you guys are saying will help me make the right choice.

Thanks to you guys especially Amadman, you must be spoiling business for some greedy niggers. One love.

This is not a fulltime job but a part-time job that will give you all the freedom you need in the whole world, I need an experienced writer that can be consistent in content writing.

You must be able to publish high-quality articles at least not less than 3 per week, You must write only searchable content, I mean something that people might be searching for not just stories that no one is searching for. Your articles should be a problem solver or the type that provide answers to people's questions. You can re-write someone's article if you have the capacity but they will be entirely different but somehow delivers the same message.

Car Talk / 5 Truths Nigerian Car Dealers Will Not Tell You by Everest9(m): 9:56am On Jan 02, 2019
They are not interested in building a good relationship among their customers nor cares about their integrity and reputation as long as they make some cash, maximizing their profit is their priority and nothing else matters and for that reason, they are willing to hide the truth.

Recently I published an article here that explains few things you need to know before buying any vehicle but I was pushed to expose some hidden truth some Nigerian car dealers fails to tell their customers when I heard a story of a guy who bought car from one of the Nigerian car dealers for 1.8 million and later sold it back to them for less than 800,000 because the car was faulty.

I don't know if you are currently searching or planning to buy either Nigerian used or foreign used car and if yes then this guide is only for you.

If you have the experience then you will surely know how to find what you want but when you lack some basic knowledge about cars you will easily be deceived because no one cares about you, they just want your money and once you end up buying the car, you are on your own.

I am willing to tell you the hidden facts and truths Nigerian dealers will not tell you because you deserve fair treatment and respect, being a novice in the system doesn't give anyone the right to deceive you.
The Truths Auto Dealers will not tell you
To get started we are going to take a closer look at those hidden facts and truths the Nigerian Auto dealers don't want you to know when negotiating business with them.
1. Steering and Dashboard changed from right to left

Nigerians Auto dealers normally buy vehicles from those countries that drive right-hand cars at a very cheap rate and when it comes down to Nigerian they will convert it to the left-hand side which involves changing the dashboard entirely and such thing cannot be done perfectly in Nigeria without error but because they bought the car very cheap and expect to earn a good margin in profit they will not tell you about the changes, try to avoid such a vehicle because you will surely face more problems in the feature.
2. They will tell you if you don't buy now you will not see it again tomorrow
Don't let anyone pressurize you in buying something you are not sure of because what is not meant for you will never be meant for you and what is not yours is not yours but if you force it you will surely pay the price.

They always make you think that the car is a hot cake that will not last for an hour before it is sold, don't mind them take your time and do a proper checkup before buying any car, after all, there are still thousands and millions to choose from.
3. Ignore the fake report

To make it look professional in their business model, they will always show you the vehicle report which is always a fake report because they will never show you the real bad side of the car instead they will do anything possible to persuade you to buy while hiding the real truth about the car.

Always recheck and rescan to find your own personal report on any vehicle you wish to buy before any commitment.
