Rossikk: Why Didn't Ancient Igbos Settle On The Coast Instead of Inland and Landlocked?
I find it hard to understand why a highly populated ethnicity in the southern region just left the entire coast for minority groups to control.
Why didn't the ancient Igbos duke it out with the Delta people for control of the Atlantic seabed?
If they had acquIred the coast and built a large empire there, they could have averted the slave trade, because the European ships capitalised on the weak, fragmented nature of the coastal communities to perpetrate their nefarious trade.
They could have learnt to build ships to explore and trade with the world, like the ancient Malians, who built ships that took them to the Americas in the 13th century.
Only now that oil and gas have been discovered in the region that Igbos dream of dominating the place via a 'Biafra'.
But they could have gotten that seacoast in ancient times if only they had been more strategic in their thinking.
They had no reason to leave themselves landlocked.
They could easily have bullied the delta people to move from that place.
Igbos need to be more strategic in their reasoning.
It is not a flaw that started today. Lack of a strong central monarchy. There was no king to unite the igbo groups to form an empire that could push for more coastal territories. The Aros tried but they didn't aim to unite the igbo groups. And when the Europeans came, they tempted the Aros into immoral slave trading of igbo groups, so any chance of a unification failed completely. |

Politics › Re: As Bad As It Is Nigeria Of 2021 Will Be A Paradise Compared To Nigeria Of 2041 by excanny: 8:40am On Aug 12, 2023 |
tensazangetsu20: A lot of Nigerians are complaining about Nigeria today. Massive poverty, high unemployment rates, inflation levels never ever seen before alongside massive insecurity. What a lot of Nigerians don't know is that as bad as we have things today, Nigerians in the future will look back at today and wish for these days. Nigeria was bad under Obasanjo, we had economic growths of 10 percent annually even with low oil prices. You were assured of a job with a first-class or second class upper once you graduated. Doctors could buy cars after housemanship, some even built houses but as good as those days were, I still recall a lot of our neighbours using sawdust to cook. Most couldn't afford kerosene or gas then but at least there was hope especially as the economy was booming then came yaradua and it was as if the peoples hope had doubled by a factor of two.
Economy was still growing and Nigeria somehow managed to escape the 2008 global financial crisis. Things were all good till Yaradua died and Jonathan took over. Jonathan had his bad sides but at least the economy was still growing. Freedom of speech was there, you could say and do anything and nothing will happen to you but the people got tired of him and wanted him out so they voted for Buhari and yet here we are. But honestly, Buhari isnt the worst thing that can happen to Nigeria. The next Nigerian president will be one hundred million times worse than Buhari. People will look back from the future and tell their kids how Buhari was one of the best Nigerian presidents Nigeria has ever had as Nigeria of 2021 is a paradise compared to Nigeria of 2041. See prophet o |

Antitankweapon: This is a CALL to Northern governors to reclaim the North from Fulani oppression. I write this because the Fulanis are not Nigerians and they are not loyal to Nigeria.
As the current generation to Fulani emirs die, they should be replaced with INDIGENES, not another fulani.
The Northern govs. and political leaders must take responsibility for this. They must either free themselves or continue being slaves to slaughter.
Very important..... for every indigenous NORTHERNER.
When any Fulani emirs dies, he should be replaced with INDIGENE, not another fulani. Never allow a fulani to replace another fulani emir. No way.
A word is enough for the wise. Do you know the meaning of conquest? Just let sleeping dogs lie. |
