leke12:Is not about dat, I believe if the portfolios (any political position) are made less attractive, that will make them situp. I wish Buhari can slash their salaries as he promised, that would be a good start. |
Why this fuss by this time of the day? What is wrong with APC self. Who even told them that Buhari will not change his mind and decide to run for second term? After all politicians can't be trusted. |

Athletes experience a fair amount of injuries during careers. Some injuries are minor, others can be career threatening or even life threatening. The following sportsmen experienced the most extreme pain you ever think of. We are glad they all recovered. Warning: this is not for the faint-hearted. 1. Djibril Cisse The striker suffered an fracture on his right tibia during a international game versus China. 2. Kevin Ware During an NCAA tournament game against Duke, the Louisville guard suffered compound fracture to his right leg. 3. Haseem Rahman The numerous headbutts he received during a fight Evander Holyfield caused this huge hematoma. - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/06/9-horrifyinghorrible-sports-injuries.html?utm_source=&utm_medium=facebook#sthash.Pegx2Vwp.dpuf cc lalasticlala ishilove

On the surface, James Harrison is just an average guy. He loves his daughter and grandchildren, collects stamps, and goes for walks near his home on Australia's central coast. But it's what's under the surface that makes him extraordinary -- specifically, what's flowing in his veins. Known as "The Man with the Golden Arm," nearly every week for the past 60 years he has donated blood plasma from his right arm. The reasons can be traced back to a serious medical procedure he underwent as a child. "In 1951, I had a chest operation where they removed a lung -- and I was 14," recalls Harrison, who is now aged 78. "When I came out of the operation, or a couple days after, my father was explaining what had happened. He said I had (received) 13 units (liters) of blood and my life had been saved by unknown people. He was a donor himself, so I said when I'm old enough, I'll become a blood donor." A deadly problem Soon after Harrison became a donor, doctors called him in. His blood, they said, could be the answer to a deadly problem. "In Australia, up until about 1967, there were literally thousands of babies dying each year, doctors didn't know why, and it was awful," explains Jemma Falkenmire, of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service. "Women were having numerous miscarriages and babies were being born with brain damage." It was the result of rhesus disease -- a condition where a pregnant woman's blood actually starts attacking her unborn baby's blood cells. In the worst cases it can result in brain damage, or death, for the babies. Rhesus disease happens when a pregnant woman has rhesus-negative blood (RhD negative) and the baby in her womb has rhesus-positive blood (RhD positive), inherited from its father. If the mother has been sensitized to rhesus-positive blood, usually during a previous pregnancy with an rhesus-positive baby, she may produce antibodies that destroy the baby's "foreign" blood cells. Harrison was discovered to have an unusual antibody in his blood and in the 1960s he worked with doctors to use the antibodies to develop an injection called Anti-D. It prevents women with rhesus-negative blood from developing RhD antibodies during pregnancy. "Australia was one of the first countries to discover a blood donor with this antibody, so it was quite revolutionary at the time," says Falkenmire. Precious gift Harrison's blood is precious. He and Anti-D are credited with saving the lives of more than 2 million babies, according to the Australian Red Cross blood service: That's 2 million lives saved by one man's blood. "Every bag of blood is precious, but James' blood is particularly extraordinary," says Falkenmire. "His blood is actually used to make a life-saving medication, given to moms whose blood is at risk of attacking their unborn babies. Every batch of Anti-D that has ever been made in Australia has come from James' blood. "And more than 17% of women in Australia are at risk, so James has helped save a lot of lives." One of those lives is that of baby Samuel, who is just five weeks old. His mother, Kristy Pastor, first received the Anti-D injection during her second pregnancy. With Harrison's antibodies in her blood, little Samuel is her fourth happy and healthy baby. "They just said you needed the vaccine," she said. "I didn't think about it any further, and then looking into it a bit more, I found out about James and how amazing he is and how many donations he's made, and that it was all because of him. - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/06/this-mans-blood-has-saved-lives-of-two.html#sthash.15znFfET.dpuf cc lalasticlala

A mother who suffers from a horrific condition that is ‘harder to control than cancer’ has been forced to have half of her face removed to try and control it. Louise Brent, 58, from Hull, suffers from facial arterial venous malformation (AVM) – a malformation of veins and capillaries – which has almost killed her twice. AVM causes the veins to dissipate, causing them to tangle and, when it flares up, spread like the ‘branches of a tree’. The condition causes pain, skin breakdown, overgrowth of tissue, and even heart failure – and in some patients needs regular treatment to break down or remove the tangles. Mrs Brent claims one doctor has told her the condition is ‘more difficult to control and sort than cancer because, if you leave anything behind, it just regrows aggressively’. And despite having had two massive operations to try and save her, she is still suffering – and now hopes to raise £25,000 for pioneering surgery. Mrs Brent said: ‘In my last operation, the surgeon basically cut the side of my face off. ‘I will never be completely normal looking again because with so much surgery and damage that has been done – but I want to try and save my life. ‘Now I just have to be brave and get on with life.’ Mrs Brent spent most of her life unaware that she had the condition. The only sign was a faint line down the side of her face when she was born, which disappeared when she was a child. Then, when she was 45-years-old, she noticed a pulse beating in her face. She visited her GP, who diagnosed it as AVM and gave her treatment – and she believed that would be the end of it. It was only when she began suffering from intense migraines, a common symptom of the disease, that she was referred to Leeds General Infirmary for a major operation on her face to remove the AVM. She said: ‘I was completely disfigured when I came round, just an absolute mess. My nose had dropped and everything.’ Soon after surgery she began to suffer life-threatening facial bleeds, and, on one occasion, came close to death after losing three pints of blood. - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/06/woman-suffers-from-condition-harder-to.html#sthash.brohRWI8.dpuf cc lalasticlala Ishilove

Five people have died and hundreds are missing after a cruise ship carrying 456 people capsized on the Yangtze River in China's Hubei province. Officials say at least 15 people survived, with some found alive inside the submerged hull of the Eastern Star. The captain and the chief engineer, who both survived, have been detained. They say the boat, which sent no emergency signal, was caught in a cyclone. The rescue is continuing into the night but is being hampered by bad weather. Chinese media quoted the captain as saying the vessel sank within minutes, while many people were asleep. BBC weather forecaster Peter Gibbs says there were severe thunderstorms in the area - See more and Video footage at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/06/more-than-140-missing-in-chinese-ship.html#sthash.fxI0kCkU.dpuf

Until recently, prostate cancer was thought to be one of those cancers that could not be prevented because it was linked to genetic factors. However, during this year’s American Urological Association meeting, researchers announced they discovered a preventative measure, that may reduce the risk of prostate cancer: frequent orgasms. According to elitedaily, this idea was first identified in 2004 after a JAMA study found “high ejaculation frequency” may be associated with a lower risk of getting the disease. This study called Health Professionals Follow-up involving 32,000 men who were observed for about 18 years found that men who ejaculated at least 21 times per month reduced their risk for prostate cancer by about 20 percent. - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/06/guys-do-you-know-that-having-frequent.html#sthash.Lchuc5yc.dpuf

Former Delaware Attorney General Beau Biden, the son of US Vice-President Joe Biden, has died of brain cancer. The 46-year-old was taken to hospital earlier this month at the Walter Reed Army Medical Centre, near Washington. Beau Biden was seen as a rising star of US politics but suffered health problems in recent years. He had intended to run for Delaware state governor in 2016. "The entire Biden family is saddened beyond words", the vice-president said. In a statement, President Barack Obama said: "Michelle [Obama] and I are grieving tonight." "Beau was a good, big-hearted, devoutly Catholic and deeply faithful man, who made a difference in the lives of all he touched - and he lives on in their hearts." In a Twitter post, former President Bill Clinton wrote: "Hillary & I mourn the loss of Beau Biden - so full of life, love, honor, and service - and we pray for the strength of his wonderful family." 'Spirit will live on' Beau Biden was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2013 and underwent treatment that was initially successful. However, the cancer recurred earlier this year. Announcing the death in a statement, the vice-president said: "It is with broken hearts that Hallie, Hunter, Ashley, Jill and I announce the passing of our husband, brother and son, Beau, after he battled brain cancer with the same integrity, courage and strength he demonstrated every day of his life." - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/05/us-vise-presidents-son-beau-biden-dies.html#sthash.CT0NfPbt.dpuf

Arsenal retained the FA Cup with a dominant victory over Aston Villa to become the most successful team in the competition's history. After heavy first-half pressure, Theo Walcott volleyed the Gunners deservedly ahead just before the break. Alexis Sanchez's swerving second-half 25-yard strike doubled the lead as Arsenal created a plethora of chances. Villa's misery deepened as Per Mertesacker headed in a third before Olivier Giroud tapped home late on. It was a record 12th time the Gunners had lifted the trophy, with Arsene Wenger becoming the first post-war manager to win it six times. Arsenal controlled the match from the start, having 16 shots compared to Aston Villa's two, although Tim Sherwood's men did have two penalty claims turned down late on. - See more at: http://www.exlinklodge.com/2015/05/arsenal-trash-aston-villa-4-0-to-lift.html#sthash.7Z8ETzuF.dpuf

Nigeria’s President, Mohammed Buhari wore a smile all through his swearing-in/inauguration ceremony that took place today at the Eagles Square, Abuja. The event which took place under a sunny weather was as with previous swearing-in ceremonies filled with Past Nigerian presidents, foreign diplomats and highly distinguished guests. A series of security checks signalled the commencement of the event as guests were ushered in and entertained to the delightful compere of the famous Bisi Olatilo. Guest were entertained by Peter and Paul of P-square, Faze, Ayinde-K1 the Ultimate, and few local entertainers. The high point of the event was the swearing-in of the General Buhari as the 4th democratically elected President since 1999 when the country returned to democracy. Buhari then proceeded to receive the 21 gun salute and release the symbolic white pigeons into the air to signal peace. Editors note: As Nigerians look forward to a new dawn in the administration of their newly sworn President, Muhammadu Buhari, a lawyer has picked holes in the first speech delivered by President Buhari. He wrote on Sahara Reporters. Article Highlights – The President has not addressed the real issues affecting our lives in Nigeria – It would seem that the President is still on the soap box, whereby promises and promises and intentions, are the order – Buhari would have outlined his main policy direction. But alas, that has not happened today The views and opinions expressed in this article are solely those of the original author. These views and opinions do not necessarily represent those of Naij.com, its editors or other contributors. “I have read the Inaugural Speech of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.), delivered immediately after his swearing in. It is gratifying that General Buhari has vowed to tackle the rot in the power sector, even though he did not give any direction on how to do that. By and large, it is my view that the President has not addressed the real issues affecting our lives in Nigeria. It would seem that the President is still on the soap box, whereby promises and promises and intentions, are the order. He is the President of Nigeria now and my expectation was that since March 28, 2015, when he won the election, when he received the certificate of return from INEC, when he got assurances from Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, that his election would not be contested, General Buhari would have outlined his main policy direction. But alas, that has not happened today. For instance, the President did not say anything on his foreign policy directive, on issues relating to global warming and climate change, the violence in the Middle East and the general global economic downturn. Also, the President was silent on the mode of tackling corruption, which indeed has been the main thrust of his electioneering campaigns; he was silent on the collapsing aviation sector, he kept mute on the unpaid salaries of millions of workers across the land, the huge debts that the Jonathan administration has bequeathed to him and indeed the main means of generating revenue, to run his government, apart from oil. General Buhari gave no hint on the mode of reform of the judicial system and the administration of justice generally, the expected policy statement on NNPC did not come, and even the Boko Haram insurgency, to which the President devoted most of his speech, ended up in a policy disaster, of cause after effect; in that the President will only know the cause, origin and perspectives of the criminal organization, only after he has succeeded in killing them all. In all, the Inaugural Speech became another campaign promise, a general rendition of statements of intention, without action. It was too vague and illusory, like a speech being delivered by a novice in power. This is the President who has ruled this country as a Head of State, through a coup detat in 1983, and one that has sought to rule this nation since 2003, so he had all the time in the world, to have mapped out his cause of action and strategies. This is surely not the speech expected from our GMB. In the coming days however, we expect more concrete reforms and ACTION”. God bless Nigeria.
