Mr Mathewson ran a popular safari known as Lion Tree Top Lodge, located near the town of Hoedspruit, around 280 miles north west of Johannesburg.

The lionesses had previously killed a man working on a neighbouring property after they broke out of their paddock in 2017.

The lionesses were tranquilised following the attack on Wednesday and have been taken to a local endangered species centre.

According to Ms Fergusson, member of the family, 'they will later be released into the wild.'

West Mathewson, 68, was attacked by two mature lionesses after he unlocked their gate to take them for a morning walk.

His wife Gill, 65, attempted to save her husband during the attack by distracting the 400lb lionnesses, named Tanner and Demi, but they had already inflicted very fatal injuries.

The 92-year-old manages his dreadlocks by bundling them under an orange turban in order for them not to interfere with his day-to-day living.

Chien, who worships nine powers and seven gods, believes it was his calling to grow his hair, which he bundles up under an orange turban.

He was required to trim it when at school but left after third grade and decided never to cut, comb or wash it again.

The shockwave from the blast caused an earthquake that measured 5.0 on the Richter scale, with radioactive fallout recorded across Scandinavia.

Partly as a result of the blast, Russia and the USA agreed to ban open-air nuclear testing in 1963.

Foreign AffairsRe: Largest Blast Ever: Russia Releases Unseen Photos From 1961 Tsar Bomb Test by Explorers(op):
Footage from inside the cockpit of the bomber shows how bright the flash from the device was from over 50miles.

The aircraft lost 1,000ft of altitude as the shockwave from the blast hit, but still managed to land safely.

Foreign AffairsRe: Largest Blast Ever: Russia Releases Unseen Photos From 1961 Tsar Bomb Test by Explorers(op):
The bomb was released two hours after takeoff from a height of 10,500 m (34,500 ft) on a test target within Sukhoy Nos.

The bomb was attached to a parachute for the drop to slow its descent so the pilots of the bomber could get outside of the blast radius before detonation.

It detonated at 13,000ft above the target.

All buildings in the abandoned village of Severny (both wooden and brick), located 55 km (34 mi) from ground zero within the Sukhoy Nos test range, were destroyed.

In districts, hundreds of kilometres from ground zero, wooden houses were destroyed, stone ones lost their roofs, windows, and doors, and radio communications were interrupted for almost one hour.

One participant in the test saw a bright flash through dark goggles and felt the effects of a thermal pulse even at a distance of 270 km (170 mi).

The heat from the explosion could have caused third-degree burns 100 km (62 mi) away from ground zero.

A shock wave was observed in the air at Dikson settlement 700 km (430 mi) away, windowpanes were partially broken for distances up to 900 kilometres (560 mi).

Atmospheric focusing caused blast damage at even greater distances, breaking windows in Norway and Finland.

Despite being detonated 4.2 kilometres (13,000ft) above ground, its seismic body wave magnitude was estimated at 5.0 - 5.25.

Foreign AffairsRe: Largest Blast Ever: Russia Releases Unseen Photos From 1961 Tsar Bomb Test by Explorers(op):
Weighing around 30 U.S. Tonnes.

A specially-engineered Tu-95 bomber carried the Tsar Bomba some 600 miles from an airfield in northern Russia to the site of the test an outcrop of the remote Severny Island.

A pilot named Andrei E. Durnovtsev was selected as the squadron leader, he was to fly the customized Tupolev Tu-95 “Bear” airplane armed with the bomb.

Another pilot, an unnamed major of the Soviet Air Force, was tasked with flying the second plane, a smaller Tupolev Tu-16, to observe and film the test.

Although the bomb was fitted with a parachute that was designed to slow down its descent towards the detonation altitude and give the pilots enough time to get clear of the destruction zone, everyone involved in the operation was aware that the bomb delivery crew had only a 50 percent chance of surviving the mission.

Both planes were painted in anti-flash white, a special military paint designed to protect the integrity of the aircraft and the health of the crew by reflecting the thermal radiation produced by a nuclear explosion, and the crew was equipped with black-out visors that were designed to protect their eyes from the blinding brightness of the unprecedented flash.

When the planes took off, the men were aware that their fate was in the hands of chance.

When Major Durnovtsev reached the agreed coordinates, a Soviet general on the ground remotely released the 27-ton bomb which immediately deployed its parachute and started descending towards the altitude at which it was set to detonate.

Durnovtsev, who was aware of the fact that the pilots had only about two and a half minutes to fly to the distance of at least 30 miles away from drop point, channeled all of his concentration and hope into bringing his crew to safety.

When the bomb detonated, the smaller and faster plane had already reached the distance of at least 50 miles, but Durnovtsev in his Tu-95 had managed to get only about 28 miles from the center of the explosion.

The Tsar’s shock wave, which traveled faster than the speed of sound, reached the plane and caused it to fall rapidly for almost a mile.

Three of the crewmen reportedly lost consciousness, but Major Durnovtsev remained in control.

He managed to set the plane back on course and safely land at a mainland Air Force base some 300 miles away.

The bomb was the most powerful nuclear device ever created after America's 15 megaton Castle Bravo bomb that was detonated in 1954 and was housed inside a huge bomb case.

The site of the test, the bomb was dropped over Severny, an island in the desolate Russian archipelago of Novaya Zemla.

Cameras positioned hundreds of miles from the blast and set up for low-light conditions so as not to be blinded by the flash, captured a fireball rising into the sky for a full 40 seconds before it dissipated into a mushroom cloud.

More footage from an aircraft that was 100 miles from the blast then captured the mushroom cloud rising into the atmosphere.

At its peak, the mushroom cloud rose 213,000ft into the air, 6 times the cruising altitude of a passenger jet.

*. Russia tested 50 megaton Tsar Bomba nuclear bomb in the Arctic Circle in 1961, at the height of the Cold War.

*. Bomb produced largest man-made explosion in history, 3,333 times more powerful than blast at Hiroshima.

The “Tsar Bomba,” “The King of Bombs,” or “Big Ivan” according to the Soviet, produced the most powerful artificial explosion in history and greatly enhanced the anxiety that accompanied the Cold War.

While “Little Boy,” the bomb dropped over Hiroshima and the first nuclear device ever detonated, had a yield equivalent to 15 kilotons of TNT and was capable of disintegrating an entire city, the Tsar Bomba had a yield of a whopping 50 megatons and was virtually capable of destroying an entire small country.

Russia has released previously-unseen top secret footage of the largest nuclear explosion ever to take place caused when the country detonated its Tsar Bomba device over the Barents Sea in 1961.

Soviet photographers struggled to capture the scale of the blast caused by the 50 megaton thermonuclear bomb, which exploded with the force of 50million tons of conventional explosives, or 3,333 times the force of the bomb that levelled Hiroshima.

Israel Antiquities Authority, said the find was a “rare treasure” that could help archaeologists gain a deeper understanding of what was happening in the region at the time.

'The person who buried this treasure 1,100 years ago must have expected to retrieve it and even secured the vessel with a nail so that it would not move,' said excavation director Liat Nadav-Ziv.

'We can only guess what prevented him from returning to collect this treasure.'

The treasure trove was hidden by its mysterious owner in an area that, during the Abbasid period, is understood to have been populated by workshops.

The era in which the unearthed coins were used is one of the least understood in the area’s history.

The coins date back to the late 9th century, at the height of the Abbasid Caliphate that once controlled the lion's share of the Near East and North Africa, explained Antiquities Authority numismatist Robert Kool.

At the time they were stashed, the coins would have been worth a significant amount of money, explained Antiquities Authority numismatist Robert Kool.

'For example, with such a sum, a person could buy a luxurious house in one of the best neighbourhoods in Fustat, the enormous wealthy capital of Egypt,' he added.
