Prepare the Body The BBC reports that modern researchers used forensic techniques to identify the ingredients in the resin that ancient Egyptians used. The recipe included a plant-derived oil, such as sesame oil, a balsam-type of plant or root extract, a plant-based gum and a conifer tree resin, likely pine resin. These ingredients have chemical properties that give them antibacterial effects that prevent the body from decaying. A standout among the ancient Egyptian tools used for mummification is the brain hook which is just as gory as it sounds. Embalmers used this tool, which resembled a crochet needle, insert to nostril to pull the corpse’s brain out through the nose. They would also make an abdominal incision and remove the lungs, stomach, liver and intestines. The body’s organs were placed in special containers called canopic jars. They intentionally left the heart in the body because they believed it was the source of a person’s thoughts and overall being. Next, the body was rinsed with wine, which helped to kill bacteria. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/

The chief embalmer was a priest wearing a mask of Anubis. Anubis was the jackal headed god of the dead. He was closely associated with mummification and embalming, hence priests wore a mask of Anubis. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/

Thousands of years ago. Mummification, a pocess of treating, preserving a dead body for eternity. The ancient Egyptians believed in an afterlife when someone died. Mummification helped someone reach the afterlife as they believed that an afterlife could only exist if there was a form the ka (soul) could repossess after death. Egyptians believed that the only way to do this was if the body was recognisable. This is why they spent so long on the process of mummification and why Pharoahs began the building of their tombs during their lifetimes. They developed a rigorous and specific process for mummification. The entire mummification process took 70 days, according to History.com. It was a blend of science and ceremony, as the body was preserved and believed to be prepared for the afterlife. Mummification was mainly done to wealthy people as poorer people could not afford the process. https://now.northropgrumman.com/the-mummification-process-in-5-steps/

The Scythians were a barbaric group of horse-riding nomads who dominated a vast stretch of Eurasia from around the ninth to first centuries BC. Among outsiders, they had a reputation as brutal warriors, renowned for their ability to shoot arrows with deadly accuracy from horseback. Writing in the fifth century BC, Greek historian Herodotus claimed that after battle, the Scythians made cloaks from their victims' scalps. It is said the savage warriors made drinking cups from their enemies' skulls and drank their blood to celebrate victories. Pictured is an 1881 painting of a battle between Scythians(right) and Slavs(left).

The Scythians An extraordinary 2,500-year-old grave of an ancient warrior couple has been found in Siberia. The pair are believed to have died in their 30s and were buried with a baby and an 'elderly' servant woman, archaeologists say. The elderly woman was likely in her 60s when she died and was entombed in a crumpled position under the feet of feet of the couple, who may have been spouses. Remains of the child were scattered throughout the grave, which archaeologists say probably happened when rodents ate the flesh of the deceased. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencetech/article-8755583/Extraordinary-2-500-year-old-grave-ancient-Scythian-warrior-couple-unearthed-Siberia.html?ito=social-facebook

29,029 ft(8,848 or 5.5miles) tall. (5-7days of dangerous adventure, excluding weeks of training/adapting) Climbers and scientists have a special name for the highest part of Everest, or everything above 26,247 feet (8,000 meters): "The Death Zone." Human bodies work best at sea level. Down here, oxygen levels are adequate for our brains and lungs. At much higher altitudes, our bodies cannot function properly. But if climbers want to summit Mount Everest, the tallest peak in the world at 29,029 feet (8,848 meters or 5.5 miles) above sea level, they have to brave what's known as the "death zone." This is the area with an altitude above 8,000 meters, where there is so little oxygen that the body starts to die, minute by minute and cell by cell. In the death zone, climbers' brains and lungs are starved for oxygen, their risk of heart attack and stroke is increased. Over 300 have died on the mountain, more than 50% due to lack of oxygen around the Death zone. All the ascents to the summit of the world's tallest mountain by Ang Rita were made without bottled oxygen.

Sherpa, a native of Thamo village in Solukhumbu, last stood atop the world’s tallest mountain in 1996, the tenth time without supplemental oxygen. He first summited the mountain in 1983. The Guinness World Records in 2017 recognised him as the only person on the planet to have climbed Everest 10 times without supplemental oxygen. The Guiness World Record has also recognized him as the first man to climb Everest in winter without supplementary oxygen in December 1987. Sherpa lately was suffering from brain and liver problems.

Child abduction, a serious problem in China Child abduction is a serious problem in China, especially in rural areas. One major cause is that the Chinese families prefer sons to daughters, resulting in them buying baby boys. In addition, a severe gender gap, a result of four decades of one-child policy has made it hard for Chinese men to find wives. Therefore, teenager girls are sometimes kidnapped and sold as child brides. Child abduction remains a sensitive topic to the Chinese authorities. No official figures have been released on how many children are kidnapped in China every year. However according to a 2013 report on China Nation Radio, around 200,000 boys and girls are estimated to be missing every year. Among them, only 200, or 0.1 per cent, would be able to find their parents at some point of their lives.

The family from a remote village in northwestern Chinese province Shaanxi had lived a simple and happy life before it was all shattered on the wee hour of May 12, 1982. The father, Su Bingde, had left home earlier that day to visit a relative, reported local media. Thinking he would return by the night, Mr Su did not lock the house while his wife and two children stayed home. But the father did not manage to come home while the mother, Huang Renxiu, tucked the children into bed. In the early morning, Ms Huang was woken up by her daughter who wanted to use the toilet. The mother was horrified to find that her two-year-old son Jin Shui, who was in a sound sleep next to her, had suddenly disappeared. Ms Huang immediately contacted her husband and other villagers as they spent the rest of the night looking for the toddler. But the little boy was nowhere to be seen. Refusing to give up, the family then began a decade-long quest to search for their beloved child. Mr Su started going to other towns and cities in the hope to find any information about his son’s abduction. The impoverished villager travelled mostly by foot to save money and sometimes spent hours walking non-stop. Struck by grief, the mother began suffering mental issues, putting more strain on the devastated family. Although local police launched an investigation soon after Jin Shui’s disappearance, the officers were unable to solve the case due to the remote location and limited information. Nearly 40 years later, the silver-haired parents still prayed that their long-lost son would return one day. Mr Su said that he had spent the past few years saving money for his funeral. He told reporters in a interview earlier this year: ‘I don’t want to trouble the family. 'I’ve sorted it out myself.' 'My one last wish is to see my son Jin Shui once again.’ The family’s prayers were finally answered when they were notified by police on Tuesday. After comparing DNA samples in a national database, the officers located Jin Shui, who is now a 40-year-old man, known by the name Li Guolin. On September 17, the family finally met again after nearly four decades as they hugged one another and burst into tears.

Contaminated gas from the China Animal Husbandry Lanzhou Biopharmaceutical Factory in Lanzhou formed aerosols containing the bacteria. It was then carried by wind to the Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute, infecting nearly 200 people there as of December last year. More than 20 students and faculty members of Lanzhou University, some of whom had been to the institute, subsequently tested positive as well, according to Xinhua news agency. The Chinese officials also said there was no evidence of person-to-person transmission so far.

Images from inside Breonna Taylor's bedroom have been revealed for the first time. Pictured is an evidence photo showing many bullet casings from outside her apartment. The handgun which Taylor's boyfriend fired.
|
Her slaying set off weeks of protests, policy changes and a call for the three Louisville Metro Police Department officers who shot Taylor to be criminally charged.
|
One of the officers, Brett Hankison, was fired for 'blindly' firing 10 shots into Taylor's apartment from outside. The other two, John Mattingly and Myles Cosgrove, remain on the force on administrative assignment. The floor was covered with spent bullet casings, showing the frenzy of fire that was unleashed on Taylor and her boyfriend.

Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old EMT (Emergency Medical Technician), was gunned down in March, 2020 when Louisville police burst into her apartment using a no-knock arrest warrant that did not require them to announce themselves. Police descended on her apartment after securing a court-approved warrant as part of a drug investigation involving her ex-boyfriend that allowed officers to enter her home without any warning. Taylor and her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, had been sleeping in bed when the officers served the warrant around 1am. Walker fired his gun when officers stormed into the apartment and has since said he thought he was defending against a home invasion. At the time, Walker told police that he could hear knocking on the night of the shooting but did not hear police announce themselves. Walker said he was 'scared to death' so he grabbed his gun and when the door was knocked down, he fired a shot that ended up striking an officer in the leg. Investigators said police were returning fire when they shot Taylor 8 times. No drugs were found at her home.
