The Prof. speaks of the inevitable..

The Internet and gadgets are advancements which've affected how we live, do business, acquire information, and connect with others.

A few things that once were considered social mainstays are now either obsolete or well on their way:

Movie Rental Stores

Maps ( just punch in your destination into your GPS & you're good to go)

Public pay phones

VCRs

Phone books, dictionaries,
encyclopedias

Newspaper-
With most communication now conducted online, magazines and newspapers crumbling, and e- readers increasing in popularity, paper is now on serious life support.

Christianity EtcRe: The Act Of Forgiving by Expressions(m): 11:39am On Nov 02, 2014
trevolady:
Most of us assume that if we forgive our offenders, they are let off the hook — scot-free — and get to go about their merry ways while we unfairly suffer from their actions. We also may think that we have to be friendly with them again, or go back to the old relationship. While God commands us to forgive others, he never told us to keep trusting those who violated our trust or even to like being around those who hurt us.

Forgiveness is not letting the offender off the hook. We can and should still hold others accountable for their actions or lack of actions.
Forgiveness is returning to God the right to take care of justice. By refusing to transfer the right to exact punishment or revenge, we are telling God we don't trust him to take care of matters.

Forgiveness is not letting the offense recur again and again. We don't have to tolerate, nor should we keep ourselves open to, lack of respect or any form of abuse.

Forgiveness does not mean we have to revert to being the victim. Forgiving is not saying, "What you did was okay, so go ahead and walk all over me." Nor is it playing the martyr, enjoying the performance of forgiving people because it perpetuates our victim role.

Forgiveness is not the same as reconciling. We can forgive someone even if we never can get along with him again.
The highlighted words above is applicable to the points highlighted below in contradistinction to the views that the forgiveness meant that- with His death, humanity can go scotfree with the illusion that their sins have been automatically washed away.
One can still have this view of Christ's mission being that of coming to die?! Despite all the obvious in the Bible as quoted below:

"Father, Forgive Them..."

John 7:
1 After these things Jesus
was walking in Galilee, for He
was unwilling to walk in Judea
because the Jews were seeking
to kill Him
.

19 “Did not Moses give you
the Law, and yet none of you
carries out the Law? Why do you
seek to kill Me
?”

Finally, the owner sent his beloved
only son. The tenants, rejecting the son, killed him as well. Then Jesus asked in Mark 12:9, “What then will the owner of the vineyard do? He will
come and kill those tenants
and give the vineyard to others.”

Mark 14:21
"For the Son of Man is to go just as it is
written of Him; but woe to that man by
whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born
."

According to a breaking news report on AFP, around 30 adolescents -- some of them girls aged as young as 11 -- have been abducted in northeast Nigeria by suspected Boko Haram rebels.

"The insurgents... grabbed young people, boys and girls, from our region," said Alhaji Shettima Maina, who is in charge of the Mafa village around 50 kilometres (30 miles) east of Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state.

"They took all boys aged 13 and over... and all girls aged 11 and more. According to our information, 30 young people were abducted in the last two days."

Another village elder, Mallam Ashiekh Mustapha, confirmed the account. Both men said 17 people were also killed in recent days in a Boko Haram attack on the nearby village of Ndongo. Boko Haram, which has been waging a bloody insurgency since 2009, has been responsible for waves of attacks and abductions.

In April, the Islamist rebel group snatched more than 200 schoolgirls from Chibok in northeast Nigeria, triggering an international outcry. Kidnapping young women and girls -- as well as forcibly conscripting young men and boys to fight for Boko Haram -- is a well-established tactic by the militants. Some estimates put the number of women held by the group in the high hundreds. Most are believed to be forced into marriages with rebels.

The latest kidnapping comes despite the Nigerian government declaring a truce with the insurgents and the army retaking control of Abadam in the north-east on Saturday, according to a senior security official in the region. But local chief Maina said his village and areas around it were targeted in nearly daily raids by Boko Haram, and many residents have fled to Maiduguri "for fear of being killed or losing their children". He said he had pleaded for help from the Nigerian government but that so far none had been forthcoming.

PoliticsRe: I Didn’t Ask Amaechi For Rivers Money - Patience Jonathan by Expressions(m): 12:04am On Oct 27, 2014
ogbongenet:
Wife of the President, Mrs. Patience Jonathan, on Sunday denied a statement credited to Governor Rotimi Amaechi of
Rivers State that she asked him to share the state funds with her.
Amaechi had while speaking in Port Harcourt at the joint graduation of the students of University of Ibadan and pioneer graduates of Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, on Saturday quoted as saying that his problem with Mrs.Jonathan started after he rejected her
demand.
“I refused to give them money in Abuja because if I do that, I won’t be able to carry out any development project or finish the
road from Rumuolumeni to Rumuepirikom.
“The quarrel between me and the wife of the President is because she said I should bring your money, Rivers people’s money
and share with her,” the governor
reportedly said. But Mrs. Jonathan, in a statement by her media assistant, Mr. Ayo Adewuyi, said Amaechi’s statement was a
deliberate attempt to malign her and score cheap political point.
She further described the governor’s statement as a lie designed to denigrate her person and rubbish the Presidency. She
said she could not have made such a request from the governor either directly or indirectly. The statement read, “Having waited patiently for Governor Amaechi to
refute the statement credited to him about the First Lady, (with the assumption that he was misquoted), it has become clear that it was a deliberate attempt to malign Dame Patience Jonathan and score cheap political
point. “The Governor may have been beclouded by the political uncertainty surrounding him to make such a jaundiced
and unsubstantiated allegation that the First Lady asked him to bring Rivers State money to share.
“This is a blatant lie designed to denigrate the person of Dame Patience Jonathan and rubbish the Presidency. This is to say the
least most unfortunate.
“It is crystal clear that Governor Amaechi is looking for cheap excuse for his failure in the governance of the state. We say without any iota of equivocation that the First Lady never made such request and could not have done so in any way either directly and indirectly.

PoliticsRe: We’ll Flush Out PDP Like Ebola by Expressions(m): 11:58pm On Oct 26, 2014
Clerverly:
THE leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that the party will take over government at the federal level in 2015.

Chieftains of the party made this known at a mega rally held in Port Harcourt, on Saturday, to mark the seventh anniversary of the Governor Rotimi Amaechi-led administration in Rivers State.

APC national chairman, Chief Odigie Oyegun, assured that the party would sail to victory in the 2015 elections, not only in Rivers, but also at the federal level.

He likened the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the dreaded Ebola disease, noting that Nigeria would be made free of what he said was the PDP virus in 2015, just like the war was won against Ebola in the country.

“During the PDP South-South campaign, he (President Goodluck Jonathan) told the whole nation that APC does not exist in Rivers State; that it is only a poster party. We were worried and we concerned. Your governor, a fantastic man, was challenged.

“So, today, he brought all of us here. The entire leadership of APC is lined up here today. I want to tell you that we have come. I want to tell you that we have seen; I want to tell you that we are convinced, that your great governor, Chubuike Amaechi, controls Rivers State; that APC is in charge of Rivers State.

“Finally, those of you who will work for and will make sure that we get a permanent voter card so that they can vote on that day so that we can make Nigeria PDP-free as Rivers is today Ebola-free, give me a great big o yeah”, he said.

Former military Head of State and an APC presidential aspirant in the 2015 elections, General Muhammadu Buhari, said the people of the state had been very lucky to have Amachi as their governor in the last seven years.

He also assured that APC would, from 2015, meet the yearlings and aspiration of Nigerians for adequate security and development.

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakr, who is also contesting the presidential election, said Rivers had witnessed tremendous and unsurpassed growth and development under the Amaechi administration.

“Do you want the progress to continue? Do you want to feel the projects? Do you want to eradicate poverty? Do you want to go to good schools? Do you want good roads? Do you want power? Vote APC, vote APC, vote APC”, he added.

Another presidential hopeful, Givernor Rabiu Kwakwanso of Kano State, congratulated his Rivers State counterpart on his developmental strides in the state, assuring that other parts of the country would work together with Rivers for sustainable peace and growth.

Nda Isaiah, publisher of the Leadership newspaper and APC presidential aspirant, also attested to the developmental efforts of Governor Amaechi and warned that anybody that planned to rig the 2015 elections would have to contend with great resistance from the people.

Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum and Imo State governor, Rochas Okorocha, said APC represented the change Nigerians were yearning for and assured that the party would present a presidential candidate devoid of religious or tribal sentiments.

“Let me say to all of you, when John the Baptist was preaching in the wilderness, he was saying to the PDP people, ‘repent, repent for APC is coming. PDP you came and gave my people poverty and disease. But this party coming after you which is called APC, shall provide the dividends of democracy”, he said.

Speaking earlier, Governor Amaechi called on the people of the state to punish PDP with their votes in 2015, alleging that President Jonathan hated the people by not executing any project in the state since the inception of his administration.

Faulting the claim that the Federal Government had neglected the state because of his quarrel with the president, he queried the alleged neglect of the federal road that link Akwa Ibom with Cross River, two PDP-controlled states.

Amaechi accused the Federal Government of frustrating efforts to distribute the 715 megawatts which he said his administration had developed, adding, “They don’t care for you; they want you to die of water-borne diseases. Punish them with your votes; punish PDP with your votes.”

fryo4life:
Why do we spend huge amount of money on university degrees and still remain jobless? A friend of mine during nysc in 2011 had his first degree with good grade in a reputable university in Nigeria before enrolling for his master degree in UK. He spent over 4 million naira to complete the master degree programme. After he completed his master degree in uk, he came back to Nigeria about 8 months ago to look for a job. Since then, he is jobless. He search for jobs in Nigeria but he can't get it.
Yesterday, he paid me a visit at home and we were discussing generally. He told me he regret ever pursuing his master degree. He said graduates are doing menial jobs like cleaner, security, nanny etc in uk.That university education is a scam in modern day. Cause you spend huge money to study, still no guarantee of any decent job after gradaution. He concluded the 4 million naira he spent to enrol his master programme in uk, that if he had used it to start a business in Nigeria then, he will be better off. He is so broke cause his parents have left him on his own. He got a job in an engineering firm a week ago. He does not know whether to accept it or not.

Hi Expressions.

I am a Christian but I consider myself non-denominational and definitely not traditional.
I believe in God and His word and I am very spiritual, but not so much religion.
I have a lot of problems with religion itself.

I'm curious. Could you elaborate on how my spelling and sentence-structure shows that I'm a {traditional} Christian?
I'm happy you've pulled out of your depression, btw.
Hello Yields,

Oops, you read that, I was only at the verge of depression though but thanks anyway.

Yeah you got me there, I intentionally inserted the 'traditional' and viola! you spotted the difference; that response alone says much more but I wouldn't want to conclude yet. Of course, there's no correlation between your disposition and that of the traditional Christians.

I have met two... three persons (females) with your kind of disposition.

Even your profile picture betrays your inclination, but like I said: I'm not concluding.

From your posts I'm guessing you are a mum. But that's btw.

Now you got me even more curious as per the above bolded:

Could you elaborate on you being spiritual. Is there a book other than the Bible you study?

Are you a lover of Nature?

You sound intelligent and deep but I know it goes beyond erudition.

Thanks for your time

Hi.
Don't mind me, went through your posts, but had to do this here since it was here I first took note.

Hmmm, the manner in which you type, spell and structure your sentences got me into wondering if you are a traditional Christian per se. Are you?
