Omo I actually refrained from calling him an illiterate. I now see why the bill is having challenges. If he could articulate such rubbish in English language. Asides that car has nothing to do with VAT, how does the excise duties on cars be paid to Lagos instead of NPA? It's so tiring!!
You people are the real illiterate who doesn't understand what you are defending. The customs collects import duty and VAT are paid on every duty paid which is channelled to FIRS and recorded in favour of Lagos states as the place of collections, so who is the illiterate.
Sometimes in the port, Customs may not query much on VAT because it is not their primary area but VAT is paid on every duty except where there's an exemption.

Most you are just educated illiterate honestly.

So duties paid on cars is VAT, oil companies tax is VAT??

Like do you know the meaning of VAT??

If you are an undergraduate or a graduate you are a disgrace to Nigeria education system.
You are the one that is the illiterate. Can you pay duty without paying VAT on it?
You don't know that you pay VAT on the amount of duty you paid, Mr literature.

PoliticsRe: State Governments Disagree On Tax Reform Legislation by EXPRESSSMAN(m): 9:09am On Dec 04, 2024
Iolo:
I’ll try to enlighten you with some of these points you’ve raised.

1. Taiwo Oyedele and his team spent more than a year fine tuning these tax bills. The governors are only being mischievous saying they aren’t aware of its contents. They didnt get their way during the initial consultation phase and are trying to scuttle the process as a result.

2. Aggregating revenue collection into a single body is laudable. Whether or not consultants can be introduced into the process is a suspicion at this stage. Practically, consultants already work with most of these revenue generating agencies at the moment that I’m aware of and take a piece of the pie for doing nothing. Leaving the argument of consultants…the key challenge we’ve faced as a country is many agencies forget their primary goal is service delivery and not revenue. That is why you will see that the likes of NIMASA, Customs, etc all have very poor attitudes towards their customers (we the people). Putting revenue collection with the NRS / FIRS introduces a separation of concern that helps the entire ecosystem. It becomes harder to bribe for a reduced duty or side track the system is if the NRS is doing their job correctly they can audit the funds coming in vs what’s expected for each agency and spot leakages.

3. Regarding economic council feedback to pause the bills. The challenge with Nigeria is everybody likes to be a big man and be carried along with every single thing. What is the job of the National Assembly? They have public debates before passing bills and we’ve seen that used in the past. Why can’t a governor go there to air their views while it is televised on the TV. Any body who says they want to be consulted outside of the NASS is either waiting to be bribed or courted or just against the bill for their own selfish interest.

4. Corporate tax is an FG matter and doesn’t involve states. They way the FG is likely looking at it If you don’t tax SMBs below 50 million turnover, it could mean these businesses hire more people, which in turn translates to more PAYE going to the states and also VAT being generated. In the actual sense, the number of SMBs paying corporate taxes correctly in Nigeria is very little. There are a lot of businesses who do not pay corporation tax and it’s easy to not do so unlike PAYE and VAT so the FG is being smart imo to forgo this segment.

5. The issue of forgoing PAYE for min wage earners is a statistical thing. Again a way to think of it is putting more money into the hands of workers will drive more spending..they will buy food, clothes etc . Taxing this spending will be captured under VAT. Rather than tax at the source, you can tax the workers expense and create multiplier effects for the economy that way.

In summary, any body opposed to the bill should write their objections to the National Assembly and give Nigerians their alternative proposal in view of everyone. That is all.
There is nothing to enlighten about. It is the usual rehtorics and propaganda.
You said if subsidy is removed , the government will have enough money to turn Nigeria to Dubai within a year. Today, subsidy has been removed and we all know how far.
For more destruction , you people came up with an ambiguous tax bill with the usual talk of how every household in the country will be transformed to Dangote.
Well, once beaten twice shy. We refuse to accept all those grammars this time.

Illiterate, stop spreading lies. It is not 1 million naira and blow not paying. Go check the facts well. Stop spreading lies. You are disgusting. Werey.

The question is that how many companies are in other states where they don't have anything to offer businesses? These bills will make them start thinking how to attract investors. And if they cannot, let them merge with the states they are created from. They are not self sustainable and shouldn't be a state in tje first place. The main criterion to be a state is self sustainability, but they were created to take more. This should be corrected. Go school and learn, you won't go. Now, see your life. Illiterate.

Your norther governors and people have been suffocating others for over 30 years, and others didn't die. Others are saying they can continue if the north will not bring to the table. Go and work and also bring to the table. This is equality.

Name the 62 bodies and name the single body. This issue can be looked into.

E dey pain you. We have supported it. N70K to N100k will pay nothing again. Also, less than N50 mullilliin per annum turn over will pay nothing again. It is a win for the masses. Your papa sef fall into either of these category. Even you. So, what is your business? You keep saying government is bad and not for you....and here you are saying poor ppl including you must continue paying. Are you really OK? No. You are not because the small bribe you have taking to support these few animals is intoxicating you.

You are definitely sick. Guess what? These bills are gonna be passed.
Mr man, I will not engage you in name calling because I know your level. You just sit in your room and type nonsense.
States should merge? Is that not a childish talk. Let your Tinubu go and merge them.
This was how you people said, if subsidy is removed, government will have enough money to turn Nigeria to Dubai within a year. Today subsidy has been removed and we all know how far. He is now looking for more things to destroy.
He came with an ambiguous tax bill, and the usual rhetoric and you started supporting again, even when you did not understand it.
Stop talking nonsense , go and pass the tax bill if you think that it is a childish thing.

PoliticsRe: State Governments Disagree On Tax Reform Legislation by EXPRESSSMAN(m): 12:06am On Dec 04, 2024
The people supporting this bill doesn't understand the implications.
1. If you make derivation the major basis for distribution of VAT proceed, then companies like MTN will be made to pay VAT in all States where their products are consumed. Just like other companies. This will amount to confusion that will affect businesses.
2. If you exempt people earning one million and below from paying income tax, then apart from Lagos, Rivers and other oil states, how many workers in those other states earn over a million.
3. It is the same thing with companies, how many of them in those other states earn a turnover of 50 million and above.
These are what the Northern states are saying. You want to suffocate them and you don't want them to complain.
4. Taxes, including custom duties that are collected by 62 bodies, you want it to be collected by one body so that it will be easy to introduce consultants to the process. How will all these work and benefits the people and other levels of government.
5. The Economic council and other bodies advised for more time and consultations to sort out these issues, you said no.
And some people are here supporting it thinking that it is a Northern problem.
PoliticsRe: FG Statement On Tax Bills Debate by EXPRESSSMAN(m): 9:27pm On Dec 03, 2024
Macphenson:
One of the most controversial issues in this Tax Reform Bill is that 60% of VAT to be shared by states will be given to the state it was collected from, It seems by this it will only favour mostly Lagos and Rivers State to the detriment of the Northern states who are collecting more VAT based on population.

Here is my concern, Lagos state was deliberately made the commercial headquaters of the Nation to the detriment of other states the more reason it collects more taxes.

Practically, All the cars entering the country pays their tax to only Lagos state. Even the cars to be used in Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Delta and Cross River states. Now this is not fair to these states as they have their own seaports but cars are not entering them, the taxes they are supposed to get as a state goes to Lagos state.

Also, Telecom companies pay their VAT in Lagos because their headquaters are located in Lagos, If this new bill is passed, that is no longer fair to all other states where the Telcom companies operate. Telcom companies should now start paying VAT to each state they operate as you can no longer rob Peter to pay Paul.

Oil companies have their headquaters located in Lagos while they operate in different states especially in the Niger Delta. This will no longer be fair if the bill is passed becaused those states where the oil companies operate will start demanding that the oil companies pay thier VAT in those states they operate.

The truth is this bill if passed, is seriously going to open litany of issues which I dont think at the moment the bill captured or resolved it.

Another worrisome dimension, this may prompt the oil producing states to start demanding for 60% of the oil revenues from their respective states, once this happens, chaos will reign supreme in the country.
You are the only one that understands what is at stake, even more than Tinubu and his people.
They think that governance is about agberoism.

PoliticsRe: Abaribe: Nigeria Would Have Been Better Under Peter Obi by EXPRESSSMAN(m): 7:29am On Nov 26, 2024
emkz:
The messianic toga coronated on Peter Obi became his albatross that ended up exposing him badly.

Among the three leading presidential candidate, Peter Obi was the least prepared. His buzzwords were: "new Nigeria", "consumption to production", "Nigeria is at the last stage of collapsing".

It was even disturbing that Peter Obi saw himself as the one to rescue Nigeria. He was not even prepared because he had no manifesto until he was forced to produce one by the crew of Arise News. This manifesto was released on December 4, 2022. Tinubu released his own manifesto around October 20, 2022. But one of Obi's henchmen claimed Tinubu copied Obi's manifesto.

If Obi presiding over Nigeria would have made Nigeria better, let's interrogate the following:

(1) Obi presided over Anambra for 8 years. Is Anambra under him as inspiration of what Nigeria should be? What specific policies did he propose to turn Anambra from consumption to production?

(2) How did he improve the IGR of Anambra?

(3) He had claimed Anambra came first in WAEC. Does anyone even understand what that means?

(4) Looking at his campaign expenses as released by his campaign treasurer, he spent more money on post election litigation than pre-election campaigns. He either did not believe he could win on the ballot and wanted to win through the courts, or he wanted to spend less and maximize benefits. He ended up wasting money as his calculation failed.

(5) He claimed to have bought 505 as a student. Yet, he struggled to explain to Arise News what he did for a living. He said they should ask others, that he was a distributor (not a manufacturer) and studied market to market at Harvard. What exactly was he distributing?

(6) His name was mentioned in Pandora papers. Why did he hide money in a tax haven?

(7) Through his utterances, he demarketed Nigeria. His entire campaign had no strategy. His spokesmen could not talk about anything apart from religion and attacking Tinubu. This was also an area Atiku failed. Tinubu was the only one who had a campaign slogan: "Renewed Hope" and that was his message.

Now, in terms of Nigeria being as it is. Many years ago, some elder statesmen warned that Nigeria penchant for wasting funds was us eating away our future. We subsidized dollars, which only benefitted the rich, subsidized fuel which many turned into a dangerous business by smuggling and even making claims when they didn't supply fuel, four refineries collapsed at once, gas was and is still being flared; we subsidized religious pilgrimage, and even killed our manufacturing sector. The only subsidy we enjoyed was education and healthcare.

It was in Nigeria they were defending the naira by subsidizing dollar sales. Defending the naira from what? Who benefitted? When we could no longer afford the mess we created, we started borrowing to pay subsidies and salaries and some states were bankrupt and could not meet salary obligations. Former President Buhari bailed out the states in 2015 and 2021. This was the reality.

Now they are asking what Nigeria did with the savings from subsidy. The fact is that the word "savings" is a misnomer. Nigeria simply stopped borrowing to fund a corrupt subsidy regime.

Just to conclude, there is no evidence beyond gaslighting that Nigeria would have been better off with Peter Onwuabasi Obi (POO) as president. Is is akin to the hallucinatory toga of messianic superpowers poured on Mr Peter Onwuabasi Obi, such powers that made his investments of Anambra money worth toilet paper according to the current Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo of banking is no ludo fame.
Even you could have done better as the president of Nigeria, but see how you choose to defend nonsense because of inferiority complex. You do not consider yourself worthy.

You're right. I probably might not be where I am today without her and not marrying that lady feels like betrayal on my side.

Though, I definitely will succeed, that is inevitable, but it might not be this quick. If I ended up not marrying that lady, it will be too hard to cast her outta my mind, she will forever live there and that won't be good for my marriage with the dream girl.

Aside all these, my Mom doesn't find her attractive cos of her multiple ear piercing and just one small love tattoo on her hand. All of that means nothing to me cos the heart is where I look at, but I can't trash my Mum's opinion.
Well, it is still up to you to decide. I can see that you're are a good person with conscience. But you're are about to make a big mistake by following your mother's view in this matter. It doesn't make you a man. You are the one to live with whomever you're married to not your mother.
What matters in marriage is a good heart. From your story, the lady in question has a good heart. piercing and tattoo are fashion which can be removed. I know that it is far better to marry someone you know than the one you don't know.
FamilyRe: Surehome Marriage Seminar: Question & Answer Episode by EXPRESSSMAN(m): 9:35pm On Nov 24, 2024
TheTundeMuniru:
Alright!

Hey Nairalanders! Lemme put this on here. Two years ago, I was on the street of Lagos working as a Dispatch Rider until I met a certain lady in Lekki who liked my person and wasn't shy to relate with me about how she felt about me. Before I knew it, the lady got me a Room & a Parlour Apartment in the Lekki phase 2 area.

Although, I always have a clear idea of what to do with my life and the resources needed to put my career on sail. As she found out about my lofty ideas, she liked me more and was proud to introduce me to her friends. She got me what I needed, a laptop, an iPhone XR, Wifi router and also credited my account with 300K, not forgetting, she stocked my new apartment with food stuffs, so I have nothing to worry about. I was fully empowered by the lady and I was happy to do what brings out the creativity in me.

I wouldn't say I fell in love with her, but I like and appreciate all she has done on me, and of course, she's head over hills with me. She's obsessed with me, my ways and my doings as I was already making my own money legitimately, earning in multiple streams both in Dollars and Euros. She always bring up the idea of marriage which didn't sit well with me cos the lady isn't the woman of my dreams but I always feel I gotta pay back her kindness in whatever ways possible.

Now, this is the thing. I am in my mid 30s and under crazy pressure from my parents especially my Dad to bring home a wife. Just last Sunday, my Mum called my line saying she found me a lady that I would like a lady who shares the same ideologies as mine and she promised me it will be hard for me to resist her. I laughed hard at her, telling her it won't be possible for her to choose a wife for me, she pleaded with me and assured me that I will like the lady. Okay, as my Mum, I hearken her demands, so I requested to see the lady's picture before having her contact. When she sent the picture, I was wowed by the looks of the lady cos she's so so cute. Well, being cute have never been a requisite for choosing a woman for me.

Furthermore, I requested for her contact to find out who she is and what she stands for, my people, I was blown away by the level of intelligence of the lady. Her mentality and ideas made me realize she's the woman I dreamt of all these years. We became so excited about each other. The lady also lives on the Island and her estate is just a few kilometers from mine. We went on a date last Friday and it is obvious from the look of things that we are gonna be together for long.

Here is my challenge, the first girl who gave me life and set me up for greatness have bigger expectation than what she currently get from our relationship. Although, I never promised her marriage, not even when am drunk. Although, she will make a good wife and probably do everything to satisfy me. But the challenge is she doesn't stand for the same philosophy as me. She knows little or nothing about my life call. As things stands right now, I am richer than her and have a few better connections than she does and she was the reason why I achieved all that I have today.

Now, how do I breakup with the first lady cos I can't stay in a relationship that leads nowhere. Neither do I want to waste her time cos I just wanna comeout plain. I feel some pity and sorriness in my spirit but I don't wanna succumb to it. I know she will be heart broken and I might be a reason why she become vile towards men. I am a bit confused and at the same time lucid about my wants in life.

How do I repay back the first lady? At this junction, I found the woman of my dreams, my parents have been so happy with me than ever before. I need your advice guys.
You, said she gave you life. That's very touching. You should have given her life in return.
Maybe without her, you would not have found your so called woman of your dream. I personally can relate with some one lifting another out of poverty. If you can sacrifice for me, I can as well sacrifice for you.
You can marry whom you want, but from the tone of your writing, I know you will regret not marrying her.

If not that we live in an age of people having no shame, with most Nigerians doing heinous things with pride, should the North and SE folks not be ashamed at the terrorism they are using to damage our collective socio-economic wellbeing and security.

To me I know, deep down, Tinubu wishes good people of Nigeria could be free to enjoy the fruits of their labour and goodness while those who love death, murder, mayhem, chaos and terror enjoy such alone without making it the problem of others who are innocent.

Security is our biggest socio-economic challenge today and those who should accept responsibility and tackle it at their local level are busy blaming and gaslighting others like Igbos who will automatically shout Yoruba and Fulani DSS agent or "Simon Ekpa is an agent of Tinubu" every time there is an IPOB or UGM deadly attack in the SE.

Only regionalism can save good people and good regions of Nigeria. Nigeria, as a nation, is gone and beyond redemption. It is her sum parts (regions) that can be saved.

Even Ogun State, which has many industries, cannot stand a chance because most goods produced in Ogun State are consumed in Lagos and across Nigeria.

Just as the middle class is quickly varnishing, there's no conscious effort to distribute the wealth of Nigeria. We are still living with the "grab as much as you can" disease.
You are missing the point. He said Lagos and those other states get more because the headquarters of companies paying the Vat is situated in them not because Lagos consumes more good.

General Obasanjo turned Bishop Obasanjo, Operation Feed The Nation (O.F.N.), Government magic turned to Obasanjo Farms Nigeria (O.F.N.),

ITT, International Thief Thief.
That's the ones you will remember.
You will not remember that he paid off the nation 's debt.

You can not remember that he brought the phone and Internet you are using today for national growth.
During Obj, all the ministries, Agencies and department were very active.
Abuja master plan were restored.
Banks were consolidated.
Efcc was created and very active.
FRsc were created.
Nafdac was created and very active.
Dualization of all federal roads was adopted.
Due process in conducting government affairs was adopted.
Exchange rate to a dollar was N125.
Fuel price was N85 per liter.
Many good initiatives that made life worth living in Nigeria.
What can I ascribe to Tinubu, just pain.
Rasing fuel price from N197 to N1200.
Rasing exchange rate from N460 to N1700.
Bringing untold hardship to the people as a result of cluelessness and Agbero style of administration.

No one complained about the 1993 general election in your shallow minded ignorance abi, then wetin carry Arthur Nzeribe & ABN go High Court to get the injunction wey General Babaginda use take cancel the election?
Arthur Nzeribe was a distraction. Nobody took him to be serious.. ABN was not registered and has no legal status.
The whole country refers the 1993 election as the freest and fairest. I personally monitored the election for CLO.
You only bring Nzeribe when you want to support evil. He was a non factor in what happened in 1993.

Even b4 you were born, there was never a period in time that a great percentage of Nigerians were happy.
You can say that now because you feel favoured by tribe, religion or some other ways.
Remember that what goes round, comes round.
A jailer is also a prisoner. In as much as people are not happy, you can never be happy. if you like keep bullion van filled with dollars in your compound. It is a show of childish and inexperience thinking.
If Obj or any other Nigerian point out what will benefit the country in the long run, support it. Don't be myopic. Don't think that you are better or favoured than other citizens.

You can say that because you feel favoured in one way or the other. Don't forget that what goes round comes round.
And for your information, no body complains about 1993 election conducted by Humphrey Nwosu. He was human as well.

How old were you during the general election in 2003 & 2007?
I was an adult then. but that's not the question. If Obj did bad in election matters, should the country continue like that because Obj did it, that's the question you should answer.
