Build the house and rent it out.

Hope you've not told him the house belongs to you? Just tell him that so so of your friend in diaspora entrusted the project into your hands because of the trust and your relationship with him.

But let your wife be aware that the house you're building is for you and she should keep quiet about it. E get why.

Family / Re: How Do I Block My Atm Card by extremelygolden: 9:45pm On Feb 10
You can use ussd with any phone. Just dial*894#. Then input the last 4 digits of your ATM card, if you remember it, or those 3 digits at the back of your ATM. Then proceeded to block your card.

Otherwise, call their Customer Care, if they'll even pick up.

This is from Google:

How can I block my FirstBank ATM card on my phone?
You can now block your card at ease without speaking to a FirstContact Agent. Simply dial any of these numbers - 07080625000, 014485500, 0700-FIRSTCONTACT Then follow the prompt and select option 2 to block card.
Family / Re: Can A Woman Love Her Husband And Not Love His Family? by extremelygolden: 9:35pm On Feb 10
If my husband's family accepts and treats me well, it's natural I'll reciprocate in double fold. And if they treat me as an outsider, turning their son against me, rubbishing my existence in their family, then I will go into spiritual warfare for them, and physically keep them far away from me! I need absolute tranquility in my life, and I hate bad energy and toxicity of any kind.

My prayer has always been to marry into a family that will accept me as one of their own. Anything short of that, please don't even come near as husband's relatives, or even mine!

My mother treats her daughter in-law as her daughter, so I won't accept anything short of that from (especially) my mother-in-law, and also sisters-in-law.

Because your son probably refused to marry your friend's daughter that you've been secretly nurturing for him, doesn't give you any right to mistreat me as a daughter-in-law, you know.

Your children are highly blessed, they'll end up as linguists.

If I were you, I'll make them speak all the four languages. You make sure to always communicate with them in Yoruba. Mandate your wife to always communicate with them in her language. Naturally they'll understand English and Igbo as a result of school and friends.

Isn't that wonderful?

Please don't limit them to only one language.

I bought this perfume last year, now have used it finish,in my own perspective I think is refillable,is there anyone that had use it before,if so did you refill it or you throw it away
I just decided to post it here because I believe t deodorant producers plenty for here

It's called Fragrance Dispenser and it's refillable. When you get to the market or supermarket, ask for canister air freshener refill, preferably Air Wick. Try perceive the fragrance before buying so you wouldn't buy the ones with harsh-choking fragrance.

The can inside is exactly what I am talking about. Or you can remove it and take it to the supermarket as sample.

Career / Re: Does Annual Leave Days Include Weekend? by extremelygolden: 5:01pm On Jan 24
ImpactBooks:
Dear NLs, please I need your guidance on this issue. I am on the verge of applying for my first annual leave with my present employer. But the information I have gathered from my colleagues at work have it that the company usually count weekends as part of the annual leave days.

Note that in my employment letter, it was only started at I shall be entitled to 28 annual leave days and also that the company usually work Monday - Friday.

Is it right for the company to count weekend as part of my annual leave days? And what does the Nigeria Labour Law says about this?

Thank you all for your anticipated guidance

Do you observe Federal Government Public Holidays in your place of work? If Yes, not only is your annual leave Mondays to Fridays only, you'll also need to add any such federal government holidays that falls within your leave period.

For instance, your annual leave is from December 11 to January January 17, that's the 28 days already, but because Federal Government declared 25th December (Monday), 26th December (Tuesday), 1st January (Monday), as public holidays within your stipulated leave period, you're authorized by Employment Law or Nigeria Labour Law, to add the three days, making the total number of your Leave days 31 working days (excluding the weekend). That means, instead of resuming on 18th January, you're required to resume on January 24th because there was also a weekend in-between.

The company is not doing you any favour. It's your statutory right as a Nigerian Worker. That's why I pray for people to get jobs in a well structured organizations, where they fully understand these principles and don't trample on the rights of their workforce!

And on your own, try Google and read Nigerian Labour Laws, especially the Employment Law, where the distinctions between the employer and the employee are vividly spelt out.

I wish you well.

This is how our country's political front ought to look like, allowing the youths take over and transform our space with modernization, civilization and state of the art infrastructures, etc, but they religiously and ethnically said NO, and God knows it hurts me so much.

You can imagine what it will look like having mostly Youths in their late 20s, 30s, 40s and early 50s occupying the seats of governance in Nigeria, irrespective of their political, ethnical and religious affiliation!

You see the above definition, ehen? It did something to my psychology, so that I grew up believing that any female that is big or fat automatically bears the name Martha, even though the spellings differ.

Op, I will advise you look around for people from your wife's place and ask them series of questions concerning their various traditions. Though you ought to have known all of these prior to your marriage to her.

I have met a lady that says they have a tradition in their place where every first child of the first daughter must be brought back to her father's house for certain traditional rites. I asked why and she said failure at which either the child will die prematurely or encounter misfortune in the future. That when she arrived with her baby, she didn't enter her father's compound straight. She stopped at the gate of the house with her baby, her father and the elders met them at the gate, performed some traditional rites on her baby before allowing them in. Afterwards, other things were done and a party was organized to welcome the child properly into the family and the community at large. Never heard of such a tradition before.

If it's their tradition, please let her go as requested, but if it's not, just invite your in-laws to come over for omugwo.

When the Bible says 'give unto Caesar what belongs to Caesar, this might be one of those things.

I wish your wife safe delivery in advance.

Yes, some job vacancies are location-specified, especially in this era of high cost of commuting.

Companies would prefer employing candidates who won't be using high transport fare,or inability to secure vehicle on time as an excuse to skip work or come late to work.

It has been existing low key before now, but obviously trending now.

Middleborn:
I just got a job offer in New Zealand, I am to earn 30 New Zealand dollars per hour.

I have been pursuing a career in academics and I currently run a PhD program in a federal University. I am currently in the field gathering my data.

Should i move to New Zealand or should I turn down the job to complete my PhD? Or is there a way to continue and finish my PhD program via video conferencing since I just have to present my research work.
Please help me. Tell me what may work in this situation.

I don't know about your school, but Unilag runs most of such programmes virtually. Many students that japa while still running their programmes, Unilag made them continue virtually, and even defended their projects virtually also. That's why I love Unilag. There are very flexible in some of these matters.

Please confirm from your school. There must be a way they should help, so you can kill these two beautiful birds with just a stone.
Don't forgo either for the other. First confide in your Course Advisor, let him/her tell you what to do. And above all, pray for God's divine direction.

Congratulations. I wish you success in all of your life's endeavour.

Education / A Female Nigerian Won The N150 Million Naira Vanier Scholarship! by extremelygolden: 11:06pm On Oct 14, 2023
"4.91/5.0 CGPA": Female First Class Graduate of UNILAG Who Won N150 Million Scholarship
Speaks

A Nigerian scholar won the N150 million naira Vanier Scholarship and has achieved academic excellence in biochemistry and cancer research.

She started her journey in Lagos, where she learned to adapt and overcome adversity, and continued to excel at the University of British Columbia in Canada, where she received several awards and recognitions.

Zaynab enjoys the cultural diversity and quality of life in Canada, and advises students who want to pursue graduate studies to ensure that their living situation is conducive to their mental health.

Kehinde Abisola Zaynab’s tenacious and deliberate pursuit of academic excellence yielded fruits of glory that many can marvel at from far and near. The female Nigerian scholar has always strived for academic excellence, and her efforts paid off with remarkable achievements and recognition.

Zaynab is one of the few Nigerian scholars who have won the prestigious Vanier Scholarship, worth N150 million naira, to pursue her PhD at the University of British Columbia (UBC) in Canada.

She spoke to Legit.ng about her inspiring journey and her groundbreaking research on cancer metabolism.

A beginning in Lagos

Zaynab’s passion for science and learning began in Lagos, where she grew up and attended the University of Lagos. She graduated as the best student of Biochemistry in 2016, with a CGPA of 4.91/5.0. She attributes her academic success to her adaptability and resilience, which she developed in the face of adversity in Nigeria.

“I developed adaptability and resilience in the face of adversity from my home country, Nigeria. These qualities have been essential in adapting to the challenges of graduate school and overcoming setbacks along the way," she said.

Zaynab’s outstanding performance opened many doors for her to pursue her graduate studies abroad. She chose UBC, one of the top-ranked universities in the world, due to its conducive environment for learning, leadership and research.

”One of the most delightful surprises for me at UBC and in Vancouver is the accessibility of local foods and connections with people from my community and religion. I also find it fascinating that UBC's campus is home to many tourist attractions, and I always love to invite my friends to bask in its beauty. The university is situated on the edge of the Pacific Ocean, surrounded by forests and mountains, which provide ample opportunities for outdoor activities like hiking, skiing, and kayaking. Moreover, UBC has many green spaces and gardens, such as the Nitobe Memorial Garden and UBC botanical garden. Vancouver, the city where UBC is located, is culturally diverse and stunning, offering a high quality of life.”

Novel Research on Infant Nutrition

She enrolled in a Master’s programme in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, where she focused on developing novel research that could help address food insecurity and malnutrition in tropical regions.
Speaking about it, she said:

"My Master’s research allowed me to develop the technical skills I was interested in, while also investigating a topic of personal interest—infant nutrition—and to make contributions that will help millions of children worldwide, most notably in tropical nations. The quest to fulfill my passion for clinically relevant research is what attracted me to my Ph.D. supervisor, Dr. Parker at UBC, who is working to improve cancer therapy by studying the unique metabolic/nutritional demands of cancer cells."

Her innovative works in research have earned her several awards and accolades, including the 3MT People’s Choice Award at UBC, the Four Year Doctoral Fellowship, and the President’s Academic Excellence Initiative PhD Award. Zaynab’s research is at the forefront of cancer biology, and has significant implications for improving cancer diagnosis and treatment.

Self-doubt and Other Challenges

The UBC scholar's towering achievements have not been without challenges. She admitted that she sometimes faced self-doubt and imposter syndrome, as well as the intense competition and pressure that come with pursuing an academic career.

She also acknowledged the difficulty of keeping up with the rapid evolution of science and technology. “Despite these challenges, I am confident that I am actively working to overcome them. I am continually striving to improve my scientific and grant writing abilities by attending workshops and seeking feedback from mentors and colleagues. Additionally, I recognize the importance of staying up-to-date with the latest research and innovations in my field and regularly attend conferences and seminars to deepen my understanding. Ultimately, I believe that with hard work, dedication, and a willingness to learn and grow, I can overcome any obstacle and succeed in my chosen career path,” she said.

She also credited her family and friends for their support and encouragement throughout her journey. She said that they helped her cope with stress and maintain a healthy balance between work and life.

“I have been able to overcome my challenges by talking to my family and friends,” she said. Zaynab is an inspiration to many young Nigerians who aspire to pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world. She is a shining example of what hard work, dedication, and passion can achieve.
