THE ONLY WAY TO SOLVE YOUTH RESTIVENESS IN NIGER-DELTA AS FAR AS I AM CONCERN, THE PRESIDENT IS NOT DOING THE RIGHT THING A DEMOCRATIC PRESIDENT SHOULD DO IN A SITUATIONLIKE THIS.NO MATTER THE SITUATION THE ARMY SHOULD NOT BE SENT TO A REGION THAT IS CLAMOURING FOR JUSTICE(THOUGH SHOULD HAVE NOT BEEN THROUGH THE USE OF MILITANTS).THE ONLY SOLUTION IS DIALOGUE AND NOT MONOLOGUE.IF THE NIGER DELTANS SAY THEY DON'T WANT GAMBARI TO BE THE CHAIRMAN OF THE PROPOSED NIGER DELTA SUMMIT BECAUSE THEY HAVE THE FEAR THAT HE WILL BE BIAS THEN THE FG SHOULD GIVE THEM THE PERSON THEY THINK WILL STAND FOR JUSTICE LIKE JIMMY CARTER OR KOFI ANNAN. |

Barrister Sullivan Chime sacked. Chime sacked! Tribunal nullifies Enugu gov’s election • Says votes were allotted without election By KENNY ASHAKA, Kaduna Saturday, January 19, 2008 •Sullivan Chime Photo: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section Barely 48 hours after he collapsed at the venue of the wreath-laying ceremony to mark this year’s armed forces remembrance ceremony, Enugu State Governor, Barrister Sullivan Chime, was thrown out of office by the election petition tribunal sitting in Enugu which nullified his election as governor. The tribunal also ordered that the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) conduct fresh gubernatorial election in the state within 90 days. But, counsel to the governor, Chief Mrs. Anayo Justina Offia (SAN), said they would contest the judgment of the tribunal at the Appeal Court. In a three-hour judgment read by the Tribunal Chairman, Justice Samuel Otta, amid tight security within and around the court area, the tribunal upheld that the candidates of the Democratic Peoples Party (DPP), Oscar Egwuonwu; Labour Party (LP), Chief Okey Ezea ; and Dubem Onyia of the Action Congress (AC) proved that the conduct of the governorship election in Enugu did not conform with the provisions of the Electoral Act. It held that there were enough evidence to show that there were substantial irregularities, acts of non-compliance, non-voting by the majority of the electorates; saying that “the petitioners have proved that the majority of the voters were denied the opportunity to choose their governor; they have also proved that votes were allotted without an election.” The tribunal said it was convinced by the evidences given by the 17 witnesses from the 17 local government areas of the state who testified for the DPP candidate that materials for the elections did not arrive in time to allow for any voting. “We are of the humble view that the election was not conducted substantially in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2006, and that has substantially affected the result of the election. In short, we find merit in this ground of the petition and the prayers sought by the petition are hereby granted. “The governorship election for Enugu State held on the 14th and 28th of April 1007 is hereby declared a nullity and, therefore, void. The election of the first respondent, Barrister Sullivan Chime as governor of Enugu State is hereby declared invalid as he was not duly elected and returned,” the tribunal held. GOV TO APPEAL JUDGEMENT Mrs. Offia in a chat with newsmen after the judgment said, “Yes, definitely we are going on appeal. Other than saying that we have good and valid grounds of appeal, I make no other comments because I am not entitled to do so, but we do believe that we have good grounds for appeal. “And, in that circumstance, provisions of the law will be that the incumbent remains as long as the appeal is there, until the appeal is determined. So, we like to advise that there is really no reason for anybody to get upset or worried or unsettled; it’s a very normal thing for tribunal to give its judgments and it’s also very normal for a party dissatisfied with the judgment to exercise his or her right of appeal and that is what we have decided to do, and we will do it within the statutory time provided,” Mrs Offia said. PETITIONERS JUBILATE An ostensibly happy governorship candidate of DPP, Oscar Egwuonu, described the judgment as another proof that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. “It shows transparency and it is yet another hope for democracy. I dedicate this victory to the good people of Enugu state,” he said. The state party Chairman of the Action Congress, Chief Emeka Nwatu, in his reaction expressed feelings that democracy has triumphed. “I feel that rule of law has triumphed; I feel happy that the wish of the people has just been upheld by the tribunal; the people of Enugu State have the right to determine who becomes their governor, I feel highly elated and I want to thank the people of Enugu State for this success and the tribunal for their success,” Nwatu said. Also reacting, the Labour Party candidate, Chief Okey Ezea, commended the judiciary, stating that the judgment was a clear demonstration that the judiciary is out to adhere strictly to electoral principles. “We will now go back to the field, and this is an opportunity for the people to vote for the candidate that they want. I appeal to the people to go about their normal businesses. But, the Labour Party will continue to fight for the right of the people of Enugu State, which is one man, one vote,” he said. He disclosed that he has ordered his party members to kill on the spot any INEC official found rigging the election, saying that he has no confidence in the electoral body. DISMISSED Earlier, the tribunal had dismissed the petition filed by the APGA candidate, Chief Ugochukwu Agballa, who sought to be declared winner of the election, claiming that he, rather than, Chime polled the highest number of votes in the said election. In dismissing the petition, the tribunal noted that the onus was on the petitioner to produce both the result he claimed was the correct one, as well as the one declared by INEC; saying that “But, in this case the petitioner refused to accept being in possession of the result and made every effort to frustrate the admission of the INEC result in evidence.” Also dismissed was another petition brought against the governor by the PPA candidate, Mr. Nnamdi Anigbo, on the grounds that he could not prove that he was duly nominated by his party for the said election and should, therefore, not claim to have been denied participation by INEC. CHIME APPEALS FOR CALM Chime in a statement after the judgment also appealed to the people of the state to remain calm, saying that his mandate is sacred. Below is the full text of the statement: Fellow citizens of Enugu State, I address you today in response to an important development that concerns the governance of our dear State. As you already know, the State Election Petition Tribunal in its judgment earlier today, voided the sacred mandate which you freely and graciously gave to me to serve you. The beauty of democracy is that aggrieved election losers have an opportunity to seek legal redress if they have complaints, a constitutional right which some of my opponents explored. While we have numerous issues with this judgment and the process that produced it, we nevertheless acknowledge and respect the guiding principles of due process and the rule of law that it aspires to meet. In the same vein, such principles also guarantee us the expression of our own rights because there is room for appeal. We shall, in consultation with our lawyers, explore all possible avenues because we are confident that ultimately, history will vindicate the just. Let me also make it explicitly clear that even though we pursue this option, we are prepared at all times to take this matter to you, the good people of Enugu State for a final resolution. Therefore, I urge you to remain law-abiding and to accept this verdict calmly and in total obedience to the rule of law. I ask all citizens and residents of Enugu State to carry on with their lives as usual. Let this judgment unite and not divide us. If we are all propelled by the burning desire to better the lives of our people, we must do nothing to harm or spill the blood of the same people we desire to prosper. On our part as a Government, the judgment shall not distract us from pursuing the execution of our Four-Point Agenda aimed at making life better and more meaningful for all of us. Let me also reassure you that we will not return to the dark and low times of the past. We have moved on and there is no looking back. My fellow citizens, I believe you are all witnesses to our modest accomplishments and intentions as a Government since we assumed duties on May 29, 2007. We all worked as a team and must take equal measure of the credit. Thus, I express my gratitude for your overwhelming support and faith in this Government. There are many challenges ahead of us but with your collaboration, we shall triumph. Notwithstanding today’s verdict, our Government is still in power and in firm control of affairs in the State. Let us not wobble in our march to create a new Enugu State we shall all be proud of and have equal stakes in. History shall be kind to judge us that guided by our operating philosophy, we have put the interest of our State first and above all other considerations. At this juncture, let me warn that much as our Administration disavows violence, we will not, at this point in time, condone any acts capable of disrupting the peace we presently enjoy. Any violator or offender, no matter his status, will face the full wrath of the law. Finally, I enjoin you, fellow citizens, to continue to support our Government so that together, we can create a new Enugu State in which love, progress, brotherliness, protection of our common interests and security of lives and property shall reign. I say to you, my dear brothers and sisters, that this is the moment for us to bond together and design the destiny befitting of our heritage. I say to you that I am not daunted by this feeble challenge, and you, too, should not be. May God continue to bless Enugu State. I thank you all. |

FROM TODAY'S BACK PAGE OF SUN NEWSPAPER EFCC: You messed up • NBA faults presidency on controversy over Ribadu’s removal By OLA AGBAJE Wednesday, January 9, 2008 Mallam Nuhu Ribadu Photo By: Sun News Publishing More Stories on This Section As the controversy over the removal of chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, rages, the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) on Monday in Lagos faulted the Federal Government’s handling of the issue. Addressing a press briefing, NBA President, Olisa Agbakoba (SAN), deplored what he described as the “hide and seek” game employed by the government, noting that the matter should have been handled in a more open and transparent manner. He said: “The Federal Government should have been more engaging. The problem was with the hide and seek game. If you are changing him, come out openly and say so. “I believe that Ribadu showed zeal in the way he did his work. When there is a change in person of the president, some other change must be expected to take place. It is not new in our polity. President Yar’Adua has a right to decide those he wants to work with.” In order to make the EFCC more effective and efficient in its operation, NBA called for the amendment of the EFCC Act, with a view to removing it from the presidency’s control and interference. Justifying the need for EFCC’s independence, Agbakoba said: “We need to have independent institutions, which can work without fearing the president. Ribadu was afraid of Obasanjo and I don’t see a new Ribadu not fearing Yar’Adua.” Agbakoba faulted EFCC’s prosecution of former state governors on allegation of money laundering, saying it went beyond the commission’s mandate. According to him, “if a governor steals money, it is an offence under the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC). Corrupt enrichment is the offence, unless the money stolen by the governor was channeled into some other means, which makes it proceeds of a crime.” He took a swipe at the international community over the stance on Ribadu’s removal, describing it as hypocritical. In his words: “We have been told of the billions of dollars looted by past government officials, stashed in foreign countries, but these countries have not bothered to send the money back to us, for us to use in fixing the country.” On the promise of police authorities to revisit past high profile assassinations in the country, Agbakoba expressed doubt on the ability and capacity of the security outfit to do the job. “The police as currently constituted have no capacity to resolve any serious crime in the country today, let alone the high profile assassinations of some politicians which have not been resolved till date,” he said. In order to save the country future electoral embarrassment, the NBA boss called for immediate removal of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Maurice Iwu. “Let Iwu spare us another bad elections. The tribunals have ordered fresh elections. We should have a new start. It is nothing personal. It is just that INEC, for various reasons, did not get it right. “When a referee mishandles a match, you don’t have to bring him back, because if he was there and did not do well, what is the assurance that he will do well if allowed to conduct another election,” said Agbakoba. |
If really Umar Abubakar will hunt OBASANJO and other corrupt persons, then i think he should resume immediately without any delay.Another problem is that THE NIGERIA BAR ASSOCIATION(NBA) should try in their fight to make EFCC independent so that when Yar'adua finish serving as president we won't necessarily have to change the EFCC boss.

OBASANJO MUST BE PROBED The greatest mistake the Yar'adua led government will do is failing to probe Obasanjo the former president of Nigeria,I don't care weather the word PROBE is a military terminology or not,he was and still is a military man.The next generation of Nigerian presidents won't forgive Yar'adua if he does not probe OBASANJO. The simple truth remains that Ribadu can not and will not want to probe Obasanjo who made him what he is today. So his removal is an advantage for Yar'adua to probe him. If by the middle of 2008 Obasanjo is not probed,it then means that Yar'adua is corrupt too, which means he also has to be probed regardless of his immunity |
I think every thing depends on your desire.Just follow your heart.Another thing is that;the school also have a quota in determining what u are offered with, like in my school Esut, they combine the both, before now it was called CSE computer science and engineering which is double honours, the simple truth is that u don't have to depend on your school.I will advice u continue with your computer engineering and go for other computer programs like JAVA,ORACLE,CISCO,C++,C OR any other programing language. |
THE BEST COMPUTER COMPANY IN LAGOS TO DO YOUR I.T THINK ABOUT DOING YOUR I.T AS A COMPUTER STUDENT IN ANY COMPUTER FIRM IN LAGOS.WHERE DO U THINK A STUDENT CAN DO HIS OR HER I.T AND LEARN SOMETHING NEW AT THE SAME TIME GET WELL PAID?MORE THAN A THOUSAND STUDENTS ARE WAITING FOR YOUR SUGGESTION. |
RIBADU MUST BE PROBED IT WILL BE RIGHT TO PROBE RIBADU,SINCE HE HAS BEEN PROBING OTHERS,I JUST THINK IT IS HIS TURN BECAUSE THE SIMPLE TRUTH IS THAT ALL OUR LEADERS ARE CORRUPT INCLUDING OUR DEAR PRESIDENT YARADUA.SO I THINK RIBADU SHOULD BE PROBED SO THAT NIGERIANS WILL BE CONVINCE THAT EFCC IS A RESPECTER OF NO MAN. |
I think OlowoTee has said it all.Just give yourself some time and think of what you find yourself doing best,or better say, that which you do without much stress! |
A BIG BLOW TO OBASANJO I KNOW OBASANJO MUST HAVE GOTTEN A RED SIGNAL THAT HIS SON IS ABOUT TO SLAP HIS OWN FATHER.THE ANAMBRA STATE GOVERNOR DR ANDY UBA WHOM OBASANJO PERSONALLY AND WICKEDLY INSTALLED WAS YESTERDAY TOLD TO VACATE OFFICE BY A SUPREME COURT, AND HIS OWN SON GAVE ORDERS TO THE IG TO MAKE SURE THAT THE JUDGEMENT OF THE SUPREME COURT IS IMPLEMENTED.YAR'ADUA IS ABOUT TO TURN HIS BACK ON OBJ JUST LIKE OBJ TURNED HIS BACK ON IBB. |
Please it is every important that the subject be stated.Or should we just write anything weather essays, poems or whatever you may call it.Please clear our writing mind, for it comes from the Mind. |
To whom it may concern With due respect i wish to notify the Academic staff union of universities and the federal Government of Nigeria that we the Nigerian students are sick and tired of seeing our dreams being jeopardised and will appreciate it,if the FG and ASUU will be kind enough to send the students back to school. |
Only God knows what will happen on the 29th.But i pray that God will forgive PDP for humiliating the masses and denying the masses the right to choose their true leaders. But nemesis will surely visit in an unknown time. Our generation will find it difficult to forgive Obasanjo and his group of PDP evil doers! |
A country that plays with the future of her citizenry,is not worth being a nation. How can both ASUU and FG play with our careers?Total wickedness, their children are oversees or in a private school here in Nigeria studying while we are happily tired of staying at home.May God forgive them. They should thank their God that the era of Student violence is gone. |
I think the best solution is to setup a panel, this time arround not by the Government, but we are going to work in alliance with the government. We will be recognised by the government and all we have to do is to fish this 419ers out and hand them over to the Government. Though we are going to need funds but any body can organise a meeting and we will all agree on calling upon the government to assist us. And this panel shall characterise internet gurus, students, business men and women, and anybody that can give us vital information. |

I think it is a welcome development.I also pray that someday it will go as far as an Igbo man becoming the governor of Lagos state.Let's forget tribalism, and face reality,if an igbo man or maybe a niger-delta man will make Lagos state better, then why not give them the opportunity to do so. |
