^^^ Igbos became worried, when the Ijaws started claiming Port Harcourt and spread the rumor that Igboland was landlocked. However, they know that it is not good to mess with a majority ethnicity and are now asking for help in their struggle. |
The Ijaws want to cut off the Yoruba from the sea, like they almost did with the Igbos in the East. Yorubas be mindful of Ijaw expansionism. Just ask your Ilaje populations. They are providing a bulwark against Ijaw expansionism after the Itsekiri were overrun. |
jason123:Do you know you are talking about millions of Igbo? We are know as a majority ethnic group for a reason. What I bolded in your post would have never happened, because of our large numbers. Post-war punishment is not something only the Igbos have talked about. The Ijaws, Ogoni, Ibibio, Efik, Ekoi etc have all complained about this post-war punishment. Even from those who fought behalf of the Nigeria consider their region being punished. Why do you think there is a militancy in the Niger Delta? The seeds of this discord can find its roots in the Nigerian Civil War in the immediate aftermath. Secondly, no one believes the census, because many groups are have been under-counted for years. Even the United Nations do not believe the population numbers for Nigeria. |
naijaking1:Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. We Igbos must not be fooled again. Our region needs to be developed and that is the task that must be done. Who will improve our homeland other than ourselves? It is time for us to take our destiny in our own hands. |
violent:Most Nigerians do not pay any worthwhile taxes. This is "oil rents" being spent. |
Kobojunkie:Like it or not, regional loyalties will continue to stay. This is not peculiar to Nigeria. Most African states that are multi-ethnic have this same focus. Even in parts of Europe, you have people who focus on regional development. There is nothing wrong with regional development. Every group strive to make their region thriving. That is the point of development, developing one's region. I would hope my Yoruba brothers in the South-West and my Hausa-Fulani brothers in the North would always want to improve their region as well. Give me one instance where Igbos have been sectioning themselves. When we live in other ethnic communities, we respect our host cultures, speak their language and follow their laws. We do not try to section ourselves from the indigenous population. We try to become part of the population. That is why I do not understand why you say Igbos section themselves. Igbos have yet to section themselves, and that is why we are in a political wilderness. We do not speak with one voice in some instances, and many of my people have neglected our homeland. I am sorry, but I think we Igbos need to section ourselves, because my region needs all the support that it can get. |
Any African state that continues to listen to the IMF and World Bank in how to run their economy, do so at their own peril. The IMF's record of improving economies cannot be seen anywhere in the world. However, protectionist policies have helped many nations from India to China. |
Kobojunkie:Everyone cares about their own region. Why shouldn't the Ndigbo not care about our own region? As you already know, the Igbo can be found in every region of Nigeria. And we have a presence in every major city in Nigeria. However, when it comes to our homeland, many Igbos for about home. I do not understand why you continue to make erroneous statements, such as sectioning ourselves. It is about time we start sectioning ourselves, because being Pan-Nigerian is not helping to improve our homeland. Igbos are still paying for the defeat our nation, and our region and other parts of the now defunct Eastern region are used as vanquished territory. |
step1:What the hell does Igbos have to do with this topic? Most Igbos do not claim Lagos. And the Igbos who refered to claiming Lagos, such as myself were only doing so jokingly, because we know how some Yorubas get when we discuss Lagos. We Igbos have more pressing matters like Port Harcourt and Bonny. |
Let us look at the linguistic map of map of Nigeria. The dark blue color is the Ijaw languages. This map uses color to show relationships amongst languages. Ijaw language stands out, besides the Fulani language, but we know they come from the Sena-Gambia region. https://www.enotes.com/w/images/thumb/e/e2/Nigeria_Benin_Cameroon_languages.png/360px-Nigeria_Benin_Cameroon_languages.png |
Yes, where is our manufacturing base? We do not even have a steady power supply to help our industries. Devaluing our currency even more, will prove more disastrous for the Nigerian economy and can spell disaster for the nation as a whole. |
PhysicsRND:Then where are these peoples from? They had to migrate from somewhere. But their language has nothing in common with the Igboid, Yoruboid, Edoid, Ogoni or Ibibio speaking groups. They remain a mystery. Maybe they came from the sea. People in Ghana used to say the same things about the Ga people whose language is strange to the Akan and Ewe speakers. |
PhysicsRND:You are correct. However, their language is different from the West-Benue Congo language group. It is even different from East-Benue Congo and the North-Volta languages. The Ijaw language has more in common I hear with the Mande languages, such as Peula, which is interesting. |
We need to protect our local industries. Aba should be the manufacturer capital of West Africa, so why open this flood gates? |
Well the Ijaw language is a "language isolate." Could they possibly be the original inhabitants of Southern Nigeria and were pushed into the creeks of the Delta, by the Niger-Congo groups? |
No!!! ![]() If any Nigerian politicians agree with this proposition, those people should be executed. Wasn't the Structural Adjustment Progammes bad enough? |
First, the Ijaws tried to claim Port Harcourt. Then they tried to claim Warri. Now they are claiming Lagos. Na wa o! |
Chyz*:Now you know the Ijaws crushed the Itsekiri in Warri. OPC could only sit back and watch those Egbesu boys do horrible things in Warri. Ijaw after that victory though they were strong enough to take on the Ilaje, but the OPC stepped in. |
^^^ I like that map. ![]() |
ezeagu:Now you know my threads are more popular my brother. ![]() |
These Ijaws boys are so warlike. They are an aggressive bunch. Ijaws do not care who they fight. Ijaws vs. Ilaje (Yoruba) Ijaws vs. Itsekiri Ijaws vs. Ibibio Ijaws vs. Ikwerre (Igbo) |
He cannot eye the South-East or South-South, because of his religius utterances in the past. These two regions are probably 95% Christian. |
ShangoThor, I see you copied my red font. Anyway, you should include Abuja, Nassarawa, Plateau, Adamawa and Taraba State with the North. The North will not allow these states to go with a Southern Federation. |
This is what would happen if Nigeria was rocked by street protest. There are so many starving Nigerians living on the street, they would use the protest as an opportunity to cause all kinds of mayhem. |
Nke a bu ihe oghom. The thread has been derailed. |
tpiah!:I was not insulting you. ![]() |
^^^ Ike gwuru m. |
tpiah, please do not derail this thread. I was starting tolerate you more. Do not revert back to the "old" tpiah. |
^^^ Do not be like that, I have respect for my elders. I think you are old enough to be my mother. ![]() |
^^^ And do you know when I joined this forum? Her use of "Ibo" instead of "Igbo" is something a true Igbo would not do ![]() |
