I am not really particular about bakare's prophecy,i dont want to criticise him either, but people should stop saying that becuase Yar Adua is not a christian that God cannot use him to make nigeria great.

When those who always claim to hear from God everyday inflicted so much pain on us,why should we not belive that our president is God sent? Is it becos he is a muslim,we have all been created in his image.

To be quite honest with you if the way obasanjo and odili behaved in their areas of responsbility is what christianity is all about then i am not interested, i will rather be a Muslim than be like them.

The Niger Delta issue has nothing to do with Biafra,If you ask my opinion i still think that the Niger Deltans made the best choice by siding Nigeria.

Our leaders are the problem in the niger delta.

I will rather be slave in nigeria thatn be a free born in your so-called biafra
Politics / Re: Fresh Gun Battle In Port Harcourt by ezioku(m): 5:59pm On Aug 16, 2007
This problem will only end when govt summons the courage to arrest those financiers of cultism in Rivers state who are currently enjoying their loot without being arrested by SSS and EFCC.

Killing the present crop of cultist will not stop it totally, because the finaciers will recruit a new set and then shout about marginalisation of the Niger Delta.

This whole Niger Delta thing is beginning to sound like a broken record,i do not wish to hear it again if the militants cannot ask the Niger Delta Govs how they spent the 13% percent.

Yar Adua should not waste time probing Kalu and Turaki the big fishes are available let him take them on first.(Odili,Ibori,Igbinedion and Attah)

Most of these Govs are prime candidates for the international criminal court because their activities could be comfortably classified as crimes against humanity.

BETWEEN STATE OF EMERGENCY AND OMEHIA’S WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE
BY SENIOR FYNEFACE
A theme that ran throughout Celestine Omehia’s inauguration speech as governor of Rivers state was the emphasis that he will continue from where Peter Odili stopped.
He was very emphatic that he would build on Odili’s legacy. The question is: Which legacies did Odili leave behind? Any indigene or resident of the state can easily count Odili’s legacies to include insecurity in the state, bloodshed and gangsterism, celebration of bribery and corruption, enhanced looting of state treasury for fraudulent personal investments including Arik Air, sponsorship of cultism and assassinations, and so on and so on. So which of those legacies is Omehia talking about? Anyway, there is the popular saying that ‘a snake must give birth to a long thing,’ as it is beginning to be evident in the state.

The description of the current street battles in the state by the Omehia government as “not an isolated scenario, but part of the Niger Delta crisis, which would take time to resolve” was a clear indication of the insensitivity and helplessness current leadership in the state.

Hear what the government had to say: “The Governor Omehia-led Government from the first day in office had demonstrated a clear commitment to give the State purposeful and people-oriented leadership. Governor Omehia has a pedigree for accomplishments and no matter the ploys of a few disgruntled persons, the Government will not be distracted from its avowed commitment to serve the people”, this is pure nonsense. Who is interested in praise singing now in the state as the armed crisis is becoming more and more devastating and the fire is fast spreading to areas that were previously peaceful.

It is really unfortunate that the Rivers State Government could say that “the sporadic gun fire experienced a few days ago in Port Harcourt was the handiwork of people who plan to discredit Government for their own selfish gains.” As far as the Omehia government was concerned, “the scenario has not degenerated because if you want to achieve peace, you have to embark on reorientation and this process takes time before yielding result.” Maybe, the result would start manifesting when everybody in Port Harcourt and environs has been killed by bullets of the warring government-sponsored gangs,” may God forgive all of you in government.

Rivers state could be rightly described as a huge theatre of absurdity. Just few weeks ago, the Douglas/Needom- led Rivers State Peace and Rehabilitation Committee (RSPRC) was doling out a whopping sum of one million (N1 million) to any one who professes that he or she is a cultist, militant or gangster and would quit the trade.
As was widely reported in the media both national and Port Harcourt-based, hitherto blood-thirsty militants, cultists, and other criminal gangsters were clutching their bibles shouting hosanna in the highest and trooping to Rivers State Government House Chapel as Pentecostal born-again Christians even though Douglas a Sunni Moslem is the events manager of the Rivers State Government’s ‘who wants to be a millionaire’ promo.

Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo as a person, would always be the man of the masses of the oppressed Niger Delta people particularly Rivers state. In what could rightly be described as a state of the region address, Asari in his usual matter- of -fact statement accused both the former and incumbent governors of Rivers state, Peter Odili and Sir Celestine Omehia of involvement in the shocking wave of violence and kidnap operations in the state that have attracted both national and international attention.

The fearless NDPVF leader chose to make his well-intended accusation at the Police Headquarters in Abuja where he had gone to inform the acting Inspector General of his intention to depart for Saudi Arabia. He alleged that Odili and Omehia were both direct and proxy collaborators with those who are kidnapping people and shooting on the streets of Port Harcourt.
Whether the Rivers State Government likes to hear this or not, the latest ‘free-for –all Port Harcourt AK-47 and K-2 riffle street show’ arose because a cult group was said to be angered by the alleged patronage of a rival group by the political powers in the state.

This allegedly made rival groups to want to prove that they were relevant as well. Although both actors have denied involvement, it was alleged that the aggrieved group is the coalition led by Soboma George while the government-patronized group is led by Ateke Tom, the ‘peace maker’ and recently born again former warlord.
Commendably, immediately Asari was released from hostage by the Abuja government abductors, he reportedly entered into a peace treaty with Ateke Tom.

Both former enemies resolved to forget the past and forge an alliance in the interest of the Niger Delta struggle and the peace between the two seems to be holding.
The question now is: why has it become so difficult for the Rivers state government that has been “actively involved” in brokering peace between warring groups to reconcile Soboma and Ateke? Both men used to be very close allies in their joint military face-off against the Asari –led group until they parted ways after being covertly encouraged by government anchormen to do so.

For the records, Soboma George was the detainee that escaped from Port Harcourt Prisons and the scandal that followed led to the sack of the prison comptroller. The man (Soboma) was declared wanted by both the Police and Odili-led Government. However, he freely moved and socialized around town particular in the old Port Harcourt metropolis part of the city in broad day light to the knowledge of both Odili and the then police commissioner, Mr Sylvester Araba.

Ateke Tom was also declared wanted - dead or alive ‘preferably dead’ by both Odili and the police on the orders of the then crown king of Rivers state Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. He went underground and resurfaced during the Omehia -engineered peace and reconciliation propaganda and declared a turn around from his ‘evil ways’.
Their boys participated together at a training and re-orientation forum held in Calabar, Cross River State recently. The Greenlanders, the Bush Boys and members of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force were also directly engaged in the project. But that was just few weeks ago.

Interestingly, just as the governor’s initiative on peace and reconciliation was about to be adjudged as producing results, both Soboma and Ateke suddenly renewed their hostilities and overnight assumed ‘the greatest threat’ to the peace effort. The two foolish brothers should read in between the lines. This was exactly the same path that the duo of Ateke and Asari treaded which finally culminated in the adoption and detention of the latter for almost two years. It took both of them rivers of blood to realize that they were remotely manipulated and armed from the same source for selfish political gains which of course turn out to be an outing for national disgrace for the actor.

Between the people who are championing calls for a state of emergency in the State and the cultists at the Government, who qualifies more to be called “agents of destabilization?” What else does anybody expect from the helpless and endangered people of the state but to look for help outside the state at least now that Obasanjo is no longer at the helm of affairs at the Presidency before it will be too late. The people occupying the Government House from all indications have failed to help protect the masses either because of their involvement or outright lack of ideas on how to solve the problem that is fast engulfing the entire state.

Governor Omehia and his predecessor, Odili should know that Rivers people are anxiously waiting for them to publicly deny the allegation of complicity or explain their innocence in the current gun duel between Ateke and Soboma- led groups. The explanation would help the people of the state to know whether to encourage Omehia to continue to build on Odili legacies or start a fresh bloodless foundation or at best quit the stage. Omehia as the governor has a lot to do if really he wants to continue from where Odili stopped.

Since Omehia and his people are yet to appreciate that the situation in the state has reached an emergency status, there is nothing wrong in calling the entire state, ‘a state of emergency’ whether declared or undeclared. Let the interest of the entire state override the myopic interests of a few cabals occupying privileged positions.

I really find Port harcourt strange these days,i will like to express my disgust with the administration in Rivers State since the Odili administration. They encouraged cultism because they do not have superior arguments, they alsways like to resort to threat and intimidation whenever you tackle them.

The characters in Government have no moral scruples,i keep blaming OBJ because he was a head that was rotten. What incidences that has and continue to unfold in Rivers state is not up to what happened in Jos and yet a state of emergency was declared. Why not  Rivers state.?

The reason is simple Odili has thought Celestine well to bribe security agents to doctor security reports whereas they are the cause of the problems.

We should stop being diversionary and ask the following relevant questions to Goverment officials

1) Why have they not refuted Asari's statement that Omehia and Odili know about the situation in Rivers state?

2)Who always gives orders for the release of Cultists in Rivers state whenever they are arrested?

3)How is it that cultist who have been declared wanted and roaming the streets to the knowledge of security agents?

4)who are those that influenced the transfer of the sss director in the state that started mentioning cultist and their govt sponsors in Rivers state?

5) who gave Ateke the info to escape and willingly surrendered Asari to the federal Government?

6) what did Obasanjo do after Asari told him that all the high profile assasinations and crises where orchestrated by Odili?

The list is endless,it is only God and the arrest of Odili, sekibo,Ake,Amaechi,Harry, and all the Govt warlords that will settle this problem in Rivers State.

When Gen. Yakubu Gowon was in power, Nigeria was one of the best countries on earth.
So, who says military rule is bad or wrong.

What makes a bad or wrong government is not the system, but the people who abuse and misuse the system.

Well, the Nigerian Army has landed to confront Niger Delta kidnappers until peace is restored.

The commissioner is only trying to save his job and that of his boss.

The FG sent the Army, Navy, and the Air Force to root out the lunatic fringe elements on rampage in Rivers State.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
State of Emergency is not the solution to everything, at least not this one.

Government should set up a Counter-Terrorism Agency that will be dedicated to monitoring the activities of these boys.

I don't understand why in these days of state of the art ICT, triangulaion etc. these boys will use mobile phones to make calls arrange to kidnap a hostage, contact the relatives of the hostage in mobile phones yet their is no agency monitoring all the calls made through the masts in that area. There is nobody using satelite Navigation to track down these boys and pick them up un-expectedly and individually.

I get so disappointed when I hear Army, Navy, or the creeks or terrain being too difficult. do they enjoy their wealth in the creeks? the flashy cars they use do they drive them in the creeks the clubs they go to are they in the creeks?? or are their girlfriends even in the creeks with them??

All this useless talk of release Asari today or release Alams tomorrow all in the hope of resolving hostage taking or stoping arms proliferation is arrant nonsense. Even if they like they should go and wake Isaac Adaka Boro from grave, he can not appeal to those boys to stop the multi million dollar business of hostage taking. You can not convince them to stop you can only stop them.

Nigeria is simply using 15th century tactics to address 21st century problems. How will it work??

Trust me if the Presidency uses better approach, the Odili's, Amaechi's, Omehia's, Alams, Clark that are backing these boys will start looking for a hiding place.

Wonder-By-Magic: How Yar\\\'adua\\\'s assets declared in 1999 grew by N700 million -Sahara reporters
---------------------------------------
Dear Sir,

Please permit me to observe that your questioning of Umaru\\\'s wealth was unfair owing to the fact that his investments over the years such as shares and appreciation of his landed property and also re-investments could even make this investments to increase rapidly. if he was a greedy man. If he had invested some of what he had in the stock market alone dont you think he would have had more than this? Remember NNPC fund invested about 178million in the nineties in first bank and the shares is now worth over 4 billion
Naira.
OBJ had only 20,000 in his account in 1999,now how much is he worth? Anybody who is bringing up all this argument are disgruntled elements, just tell them to declare their assets in public fisrt and you will see them run away double quick time. Some commisioners in Rivers state are worth over 1 billion naira.Did you not hear that someone called a party in Bayelsa not even a Gov or commr a special adviser to celebrate that he has finally joined the club of Billonaires by hitting the 1B naira mark.

Cant you see PDP is not happy? let Jonathan,Obasanjo etc declare we are waiting. Please encourage Yar-Adua it is not easy for him,it took OBJ four years to find his feet. Don\\\'t forget he even knelt down before he could be re-lected. OBJ is an evil man it will not be easy to dislodge him so soon.

Please support Umaru,he is God sent
Politics / Re: Mujahid Dokubo-asari: Freed! by ezioku(m): 8:43am On Jun 26, 2007
Hello All,

PDP,Odili and OBJ created a monster in Asari. They used him to rig elections and wanted to dump him and indeed eliminate him but he outsmarted them. That is the main reason for this problem. Another angle of this whole issue is selective justice. Fasehun&Adams were surreptiously released long time ago while asari and Uwazuruike languished in Jail. Obj thought that third term will work for him by keeping these people in jail.

Moreso,I am of the Opinion that if Odili is strutting about free in Abuja trying to return some of his loot without being in jail then Alamesigha should  also be given back his loot and asked to return some of it. what is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I do not think any of these militants would support corruption but once it becomes selective then there will always be problem. Even families do not survive selective justice.

It might also interest you to note that while ASARI was arrested, the security agents could not locate Ateke who was even more evil than Asari because he was working for the Govt.

The level of cultism during Odili's tenure was very high,i am not surprised OBJ tolerated him considering what happened in Anambra and Oyo.

Can you imagine that Ateke granted an interview that the Govt gave them guns and Army uniforms and that they were asked to return the guns but have not been requested to return the uniforms. PDP and OBJ kept quiet.

What happened in Rivers State was more than what happened in Plateau state, yet they declared state of emergency in Plateau and gave Odili a part on the back.

I want to Advise Umaru that he should concentrate on delivering roads and solving the Niger delta problem through concrete development and the UN,human rights groups and NGO's should be appointed to sit on the board of NDDC especially the contract award committee. I do not have any hope in the current leadership of NDDC. It is only by delivering dividends of democracy that PDP can rule us without force, otherwise they will continue to need militants and it may consume them like it nearly consumed Odili but for OBJ's intervention.

It is my humble opinion that the Govs of the Niger Delta should be stripped of the 13% henceforth and the fund should be presided over jointly by NGO,International Communities,Oil companies etc inorder to ensure transparency. Without transparency nothing will work.

In sum,we pray that we should never have a president like OBJ and a  Propaganda Governor like odili again in Jesus name.Amen.

I say propaganda because 80% of his so called achievements are only on newspaper. His supporters are saying we have 24hrs light while they continue to purchase diesel for their generators.

Odili would have been worse than OBJ as president.Thank God we have been saved from that scourge called Odili & OBJ forever.

Militants Blame Ex-Governor For Insecurity In Niger Delta

CIRCUMSTANCES surrounding the unabating spate of violence in the Niger Delta area, Nigeria's main oil and gas region, have started to creep into the open, with a faction of the armed youths pointing accusing finger at the direction of the immediate past governor of Rivers State, Dr Peter Odili.
This unfolding claim might assist the security forces to get to the bottom of the worsening unease in the oil region. A faction of the Movement for the Emmancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) that labels itself ''MEND Authentic'' said in a wired statement to Scoop on Friday, that Odili allegedly oiled the activities of the sorawling militia cells in the oil and gas region.
Spokesman for the MEND slinter group, Akpos Nabena, said Odili's eight years as the governor of Rivers State was riddled with ''violence, destruction, and killings'', adding that when they were about to heave a sigh of relief that Odili was on his way out with all his disturbances and vices, ''we have come to realize that Odili is not in a hurry to leave us alone''.
According to them, ''on the eve of Odili's departure on the 28th of May 2007, there was a curious security report circulating in the state that one cult and gang leader Prince Igodo of Tombia and others were about to disrupt the inauguration of Sir., Celestine Omehia as the new Governor of Rivers, the next day being 29th May 2007. In the light of this,Odilli's security chief, called a meeting of Henry Okah, Gbomo Jomo Master's MEND at Government House. At the meeting, large sums of money were disbursed to Henry Okah to finish Prince Igodo and his men at Tombia. Consequently in the early hours of May 29th 2007, an amanda of boats attacked Tombia led by Soboma George and Farah. At the end of the battle, there were casualties on both sides, and Prince Igodo was fatally injured and died later among his men''.
The group allegedly later proceeded to attack Obuama where they burnt down the house Mr. Tonye Harry, the new Speaker of Rivers State House of Assembly, the house of Chief O.C Harry, Paramount Chief of Obuama and the Ultra Modern Obuama town hall.
Thereafter, they proceeded to attack Serma, Otroama, Buguma, Ido, Bukuma, old Bakana and Bakana, leaving behind trails of destruction and truamatised town folks.
''The question we want to ask Henry Okah Gbomo Jomo is, do these attacks represent the struggle for the emancipation of our people? How does the attack benefit our people and the struggle? As the saying goes, you can deceive some of the people all the time, you can deceive all of the people some of the time but you can't deceive all the people all of the time. Henry Okah, Gbomo Jomo Master, represents a dark side of our struggle. He is a darkness trying to envelope the bright light lit by Isaac Adaka Boro, Ken Saro Wiwa and others. We must not allow him to extinguish this bright and brilliant light as he leads our youths into bank robbery, hostage taking, and attack on politicians so as to blackmail and intimidate them to pay him protection money. This does not represent our struggle''.
For the new governor,Omehia, who is still battling for legitimacy with the immediate past Speaker of the state legislature, Rotimi Amaechi, the militants said, ''we are very sorry that he is starting on a very wrong footing and if he does not retrace his footsteps to a position that is befitting the status of a governor, his problems would be far more than that encountered by his godfather, Odili''.
''In as much as we are not in support of the criminal activities of Prince Igodo, including the kidnapping of Omehia's mother, we do not believe that executing him in an extra judicial manner is the answer. We will advice Celestine Omehia to chart a new course for himself, far away from the destructive, deceitful and divide and rule path of Odili''.
Continuing, they said the people of rRivers and the entire Niger Delta want peace, adding, there will be no peace if one group of criminals are paid to chase another group of criminals because the criminal elements are insatiable.
''Omehia should have learnt a lesson from the Odili, Mujahid Dokubo-Asari and Ateke Tom episode when Odili set up Ateke against Dokubo-Asari and failed and later Ateke became a sworn and harsh enemy of Odili until he left office preferring instead to back Dokubo-Asari against the government'', they said.

______________________________________________________________________________________________

The news above is from oyibosonline.com.

I will like to quickly add that any resolution of the Niger Delta issue without beaming searchlight on the present and Former Niger Delta Govs ia a waste of time. They should be asked about the 13% before diverting our attention to resource control etc. Kidnapping is their method of evading EFCC probe on their finances. When they sponsor Kidnapping they pay  20-50m and  and say it is 200-250m the rest goes into their pockets-security votes? no receipt or trace.

Our president should not that it is not justifiable to keep Asari and Alams in custody when Odili is moving about freely. if they say Alams is corrupt Odili is more corrupt,if Asari is a criminal,Odili is the author and finisher of criminality.

Mr President please release those two sons of the Niger Delta if you do not have the guts to make Odili join them where they are.

Please lets seperate the issues here, are u talking about his economics or politics? If it is economic reforms i will score him above 50%,however i will be inclined to question the transparency of NNPC,NPA,NMA and also the privatisation. his reforms reek of corruption. have you wondered why someone who is claiming to fight corruption is refusing to sign the freedom of information Bill?

Politically i score him 0%,he is canterkarous, talks carelessly(ie do or die) unforgiving and selective in his approach to political matters. I can give you a thousand and one examples. he has not behaved like a father at all that is why people keep having a go at him. Someone of that age should be bring him family(Nigeria) together and noot fanning the embers of disunity.

This are reasons why people dont appreciate him. If you have any contrary view bring it on

Politics / Freedom Of Information Bill Or Right To Information? by ezioku(m): 8:46am On May 07, 2007
I was quite surprised that we now have a do or die president who has metamorphosed into an English Proffessor.  He said he has problems with the "freedom of information" (FOI) bill because it should have been "right to information"(ROI). He also claimed that it was imported from Somewhere. From where he did not specify.

As a nation of imports(we have no choice because we do not have electricity to manufacture) i wonder when this became a problem. Does he not import equipment for his farm? Is the current reform handed to us by IMF not imported? Has he forgotten that the Presidential system he is now enjoying and democracy we are struggling to practice are all imported? Double standards is the bane of OBJ's Govt.

Further he said that security is different from defence when he was reminded that security agents were part of the bill. He explained that non of them practice security at the level he does.  The question now is at what level does he practice his own security? Is it at the level where any one who criticises him becomes security risk to be attacked by EFCC,CCB,ICPC etc. This is one aspect.

The next question is where was he when all the public hearing about this bill was going on? For someone who claims to be the one fighting corruption why should be have problems signing this bill using flimsy excuses. Is it that he is now afraid that if this bill is passed people could get information to see the skeletons in his cupboard? Does this not portray him as the author and finisher of corruption?

My advise to the National assembly is that they should put all aside and pass this bill, when the bill is passed we would go to PTDF,NNPC,NPA,BPE,NMA etc and ask for release of their contract procedures and lets see who has been aiding and abeting corruption.

Another question that also disturbs me is why the senate after receing the bill since 2004 did nothing on it and only passed it in November. the clean bill was passed to the president on 23 March 2007. Can Mr Nnamani please explain what happened. I am aware the bill has been on going since 1999,why was it not given priority? Is it that you and Masari thought that you will be given control of Enugu and Katsina respectively  Abi?

Please both of you should redeem your image and veto the president on this bill, that is the only way to write your name in gold. Forget about passing vote of confidence or no confidence on the elections. This bill is important INEC will also sit up when this bill is passed.

@Epoma,

I totally agree with your assertion that the militants if they are indeed fighting a just cause should face the Governors and some other elites who only pay lipservice to the ND cause.

We have been crying about neglect in the ND no doubt, but i often wonder if the Govs have properly utilised the 13% before blaming the Federal Govt. I would have thought by now that the Chiefs with their feathered hats would have called for a meeting expressing misgivings over the PTDF and also question how many Niger Deltans have benefited from the fund. How many of the projects i the fund were supposed to be situated in the ND lipsrsealed.

For me i see the militants as monsters that can no longer be contained by those who created them. Ask Odili   Most of the ND Govs use the services of these boys for elections. The EU observers are saying that they will not come to Rivers,Bayelsa, and Delta states. Are u wondering why? They know whats up.

OBJ as well wanted to use the militants for tenure elongation but it appears those that want him to go have beaten him to the game. That is one of the reasons why they have been playing the ostrich with this issue.

If the Militants are serious from now on they should start asking the GOVS and Local Govt chairmen how the 13% has been spent from 1999-2006. If a proper account is given them you will see that the 13% was a slush fund for PDP. You will start hearing of the amounts they have been paying into the MOFAS account bla bla bla. That is why the Fed Govt is not pursuing them vigorously and that is also why the EFCC quickly confiscated the account details of Mofas and kept them in its custody. Calls to make them public have always met with a deafening silence. This is the true picture of the situation.

As an indigene of the Niger Delta i am of the opinion that the whole issue has been criminalised beyond belief.  The state and Federal Govt are not sincere about the whole issue.

I saw a posting from someone in Port harcourt wishing death to Yar-Adua,that is not amusing. It is not in our culture to wish people death. I stay in PH too. But Crude Oil let me tell you that a sick Yar-Adua is 100 times better than a healthy Odili.

If you will like to take me head long on this issue then bring it on.
