BusinessRe: Saudi Prince: Oil Will Never Return To $100 by fairheven: 3:42pm On Jan 14, 2015
ttmacoy:
Shale oil is a threat to conventional oil at the right prices, and the cost of extracting shale oil is expected to continue to fall with increasing development and improvement in the technology.

Saudi Arabia is not suppressing prices in conjunction with America as shale oil is a competitor. Saudi did not reduce output because whilst that may stabilise oil prices a bit, it also means volume of oil sold falls hence there is still a fall in revenue.

This is a win win situation for America as if oil prices goes up, shale picks up and America exports lot of oil, if oil prices falls, its cheaper for American consumer who are the second country that consumes oil after China. The money saved from lower il process is spent in other parts of the economy which is a boost. America unlike countries like Saudi and Nigeria only makes a very small percentage of government revenue from oil. Shale is all private companies so from a GDP and government revenue perspective, America is in a win win situation.
You are still not addressin the points I raised..OPEC wit the help of Saudi Arabia will still cut output win win or not.oil can drop blow 30dollars the way its going an no one not even Saudi wud like to see that...an Russia retracing of their undoing in Ukraine will be a key issue to that.

@OP,I do not in any. Way begrudge you or take likely the goodness of God,but sometimes I wonder why we turn every thin to religion.
I tink to myself,if we had a visionary leadership that creates opportunities for our teeming youths to be gainfully employed without retorting to endless "waiting on the lord" even for ones daily bread,(as it is the case in advance nations)then,I ask wud we still be attributing everything to God? So,inevitably, ours is purely failure of leadership.

Saw this on my facebook and it got me thinking..like wow!

Obasanjo Speaks on Gen. Buhari: "Gen. Muhammadu Buhari isanupright man. Not many people know that his first daughter ismarried to an Igbo man from Anambra. He exempted Christiansfrom performing duty on Sundays. When his Muslim soldiersasked him to exempt them from duty on Fridays he told them thebible says Christians should rest on the 7th day, the Muslimsshouldshow him where the Koran says they should rest on Fridays. AsHead of State he slashed the number of Muslims going onpilgrimage by 50%. His driver and cook for the past 10 yearsplusare Christians yet some uninformed Nigerians say he is a bigot. It isa pity that some people failed to understand that PDPdeliberatelycapitalised on the gullibility of Nigerians to paint him black. Thistheydid in order to keep their loot and ensure that he never gets theopportunity to send them to jail. How many Nigerians would holdappointment in government as Minister of Petroleum, PTFChairmanand Head of State, yet don’t own a house in Abuja or all overNigeria. He has only one house and never kept a foreign account.Love him or hate him but you cannot take his integrity awayfromhim.” – OLUSEGUN

bushdoc9919:
Actually, the truth is much different.

Over the last decade,America has been becoming sufficient in oil production....which has led to it becoming less dependent on Saudi oil. Thus the Saudis are promoting a glut in oil supplies from OPEC so as to bankrupt the US shale oil producers....who are responsible for American self sufficency in oil.

And BTW....the average American and their government prefer low international oil prices...because it means the average american can buy fuel cheap. That is the real reason why the US wants to keep oil prices down....voters.

In my opinion....any country that says it is relying on oil is mis-advised. Russia in particular has enough engineering and scientific knowhow to develop an oil free economy....and so too does Iran. Yet...they prefer oil because oil brings in fast money.

Which leads me to point 2. Ten years ago....if I told you that countries like Cuba, Uganda, Zambia, etc would discover oil....you would be laughing at me. Not anymore. New oil fields are being discovered every day. There is also the potential of alternative sources of energy...like green energy.Infact, many African countries have people looking for oil all over.

So...no anti-Russian plot. Especially as the Saudis themselves have said they are doing it to fight American oil companies....and when Vladimir Putin spends the first part of a press conference lamenting that he did not diversify his economy from oil. Looks like a lot of people have not learned anything from the last mega drop in oil prices in the 1980's.

So....Nigeria should forget oil. But you Nigerians do not want to work for your money. You all want your cake at the right time every am. That is why you shout ''Fiscal Federalism'' (ie a big slice of the cake) and ''Oil belongs to all of us'' rather than ''education, savings and innovaiton''.

Oil is a curse.
Shale oil is not yet a treat to conventional oil and gas industry.
Belif it or not the Saudis are workin with the Americans to make western sanctions on Russian an Iran more impactful..even Iranian foreign minister recently confirmed it..wait an see,the moment the Russians stop meddling in the politics of Ukraine, the sanctions will be lifted an the saudis will cut their oil output "mark my words"
The more reason Saudis don't realy care about wt happens to international oil prize..it that they have got enof external reserve,an care-less about public unrest..
About American preferring lower international oil..that is not tenable because currently the American government is producing more oil than it can consume an has more reserve than any other, now they are even thinking of export as the moratorium law on oil exports is about been repealed.
BusinessRe: Saudi Prince: Oil Will Never Return To $100 by fairheven: 12:04pm On Jan 13, 2015
There is a political angle to this whole bru haha that some ppl are not lookin at..
First,Saudi Arabia with serious pressure from US,has vehemently refused to cut output,so as to make effective the American an western led sanctions on Russia..because Russia's economy is overly dependent on oil and gas.
Secondly,by so doing also,Iran..which happens to be a regional rival to the Saudis will also suffer economic decline..its all a game of wits an skillful manoevering

Abeg, which kind of foolishness is that? 4trillion and even to see Chibok girls has turned into excuses by moonlight. Rubbish. Jonathan should ask himself why the security services that consume almost a quarter of our budget, cannot handle boko haram, even as he was happy to give all the service chiefs national honours just a few months ago. 1.) If the Igboland is not landlocked; Y can't Igbo business men be shipping & clearing their containers at Anambra, Onitsha or even Enugu through the so-called Uguta Lake instead of.

Gracias!
Most of your questions and these in particular,is borne out of myopic reasoning and deep hatred for the Ibo nation, ever had of the suez canal?that is man-made sea-port,Switzerland is landlocked country, but in your widest imagination, can you compare Nigeria's economy with that of Switzerland?that simply tells you that the problem of not having a seaport in the south East has nothing to with landlocked or not,its simply a failure of leadership.secondly its political gimmick..as they don't want the south east to be totally independent of the lagos port.

MAYBE YOU WROTE QUITE WELL, BUT Y0UR PRESUMPTION THAT PART OF AKWA IBOM STATE IS MADE UP OF THE IGBOS IS INACCURATE. DO YOUR RESEARCH PROPERLY BEFORE YOU THROW IT INTO THE WORLD, DON'T CROSS BOUNDARIES WRONGLY.
There is every possibility to that..you just have to broaden your mindset..first of,we had one south eastern states before Gowon decided to split the states,so at that point how do you realy determine the true boundaries, knowing the exercise was purely politically motivated?
Secondly, akwa ibo still shares boarder with with Abia state till date,so there will always be an over-lap on both sides.

Nice post....but dat still won't make me like dem
Igbo people are so so desperate for money..80% is ritual,15% prostitution and making fake things just 5% is clean money from hardwork

And they have some stupid cultures dat should not be heard of..maybe because most of them are not literate...they nearly killed my sis when she got married to an igbo guy..

They got married 2007 but the guy didn't take her home even after 4 kids,my sis should av suspected that there must be something wrong with his family..but she was thinking maybe he is "akudaya"..so she pestered him to take her home..when they got to the place she was welcomed grandly..they had a great feast for her and her kids..then they gave her money to go and buy something from the market, when she got there she started pricing things she wanted to buy..as an ijebu woman she can price ehn,she got to a place and just spoke her language she said (urun ma won bewe)things are costly here oo ..dat was when an ijebu lady dat came to sell things there asked her what she was doing there dat there is a mark on her and the mark is given to any lady they want 2 kill. she explained everything to her and the lady helped her escape...she got a divorce when the guy came back with just 2kids

Then he explained everything to her,dat it is their culture(can u imagine what kind of stupid culture is dat)..dats y he didn't want 2 take her home

Av never heard a good story about igbos, only bad and scary ones,

Igbos ehn I dislike them like shit,I hardly make friends with them, they scare me..they can do anything 4 money
You sounded so silly am myopic..after all the ranting you still cud not proof through your write-up,how your sister's husband realy planned to kill her
You said, she went to market an saw a fellow Ijebu woman, who told her she will be killed because of her tribal markhuh,an your sister belifedhuh wat nonsensehuh..wat a " chicken brain she hashuh
You don't categorized a whole tribe by taking a swipe at them the manner you just did,it only shows how childish you must be...my Aunty who was a medical doctor an a bread-winner in my family was murdered by her Yoruba husband in cold blood..but that still does not affect the way I feel about my yoruba folks till today,my best friend both male an female are Yoruba.
You don't use an individuals action to judge a whole nation...go an learn how to talk..gudluck..cheers!

CelebritiesPrad Pitt Leads A Sing-along For Nigeria Actor-david Oyelowo by fairheven(op): 9:35pm On Jan 04, 2015
PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (AP) — The first star-studded film-award ceremony of the new year was literally something to sing about.

While not an honoree himself, actor-producer Brad Pitt stole the spotlight with a sing-along for a few moments Saturday night at the annual black-tie gala for the Palm Springs International Film Festival.

Pitt traveled some 100 miles east of Los Angeles to the desert town of Palm Springs, California, to introduce actor David Oyelowo, an honoree at the gala whose profile is only now on the rise stateside.

Pitt is a producer of director Ava DuVernay's historical epic "Selma," in which British actor Oyelowo portrays civil-rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The festival honored Oyelowo with its Breakthrough Performance Award for an actor.

In his introduction, Pitt professed his admiration for Oyelowo — both as colleague and friend — and, at one point, Pitt led the audience in a sing-along with lyrics spinning around Oyelowo's often-mispronounced last name. (It sounds like "oh-yellow-oh," by the way.)

The gala, which attracts numerous locally based Academy voters who now have ballots in hand, traditionally is the first of each calendar year's award-season ceremonies, which include approximately two-dozen events significant enough to attract major movie stars between now and the Oscars, set for Feb. 22 in Hollywood.

"This is the first time I am a part of (the two-month award season)," said Morton Tyldum, director of the Golden Globe-nominated drama "The Imitation Game" earlier in the evening while doing red carpet interviews. "When I saw the schedule," Tyldum continued, "I was in shock,"

Not so award-season veteran and Palm Springs honoree Reese Witherspoon ("Wild"wink, who said, "It's a great opportunity for all of us to get together and celebrate this wonderful year of film."

The actress, an Oscar winner for "Walk the Line" (2005), said, "Wonderful performances, wonderful direction and producing. And I feel like it has been a real great, strong year."

At points, love was in the air on the red carpet, as festival honoree Eddie Redmayme ("The Theory of Everything"wink posed for photographers with his new wife, public-relations executive Hannah Bagshawe, and "Imitation" star Benedict Cumberbatch, briefly stopped for a few snaps with his fiancee, theater director Sophie Hunter.

Oyelowo actually did photo sessions: one with wife, actress Jessica Oyelowo, and three of their four children. The actor returned to pose for photos with DuVernay.

Both Oyelowo and DuVernay are nominated for Golden Globe awards, to be handed out next weekend in Beverly Hills.

"The last time I was at the Golden Globes, I was a publicist for (the movie) 'Dreamgirls,'" DuVernay recalled. "I was in a black suit on the (standing) side of the room. This time, I have an actual seat. I'm very happy about that. So I get to sit down. No matter what I wear, I won't be on my feet. So I'm very happy about that."
