He has since recuperated very well and people who have sighted him on occasions have given him a clean bill of health.

Tottenham Hotspur footballer, Emmanuel Adebayor has been released to deal with his family issues following his disturbing and emotional Facebook posts where he revealed a lot of family secrets.

Emmanuel Adebayo has been granted compassionate leave by his football club, Tottenham Hotspur for a second time this season.

Adebayor has made a series of allegations against his family over Facebook in recent weeks that have prompted concerns over his mental state.

The latest of his messages accused brother Kola of holding a knife to his throat and included claims that he has often considered suicide as a result of his family problems.

Tottenham want to sell Adebayor during the summer, meaning he could have already played his last game for them, but the club’s immediate concern is the player’s well-being.

It is hoped that giving Adebayor time off to clear his head and return to his homeland will allow the 31-year-old to sort out his problems and grievances in time to return to pre-season training, either at Tottenham or with another club, in the correct frame of mind.

Rejecting claims that he had evicted his mother from his house in Africa, Adebayor claimed people were attempting to direct witchcraft, or Juju, at him.

Adebayor was then given compassionate leave by Spurs in December after a close family member was taken seriously ill.

Having taken a week off, Adebayor returned to Tottenham before Christmas but has made only five appearances since then, starting just one game.

Adebayor still has a year remaining on his Spurs contract and chairman Daniel Levy faces the prospect of having to take a financial hit on the former Arsenal man to offload him this summer.

There is virtually no prospect of any clubs agreeing to match Adebayor’s £100,000-a-week wages, which means Levy can expect to.....

President Goodluck Jonathan joined other world leaders in congratulating re-elected British Prime Minister, David Cameron and the Conservative Party of Great Britain.

His congratulatory message was contained in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.

Jonathan assured Cameron and the Conservative Party of the best wishes of the government and people of Nigeria as they prepare to form a new British Government backed by the clear majority in parliament which they won in Thursday’s elections.

The statement read in part, “The President expects that the historic relationship between Nigeria and Britain which received a significant boost during the past five years of his Presidency in Nigeria and Mr. Cameron’s first term in office, will continue to blossom in coming years for the benefit of both countries and their citizens.

“President Jonathan particularly hopes that both countries will continue to strengthen current bilateral cooperation between them in critical areas such as the fight against insurgency and terrorism, education, trade, infrastructure and the achievement of Nigeria’s development targets.

“The President wishes Prime Minister Cameron a very successful new term in office and trusts that he will continue to serve the people of Britain and the global community to the best of his immense God-given abilities.”

Mephis Depay has agreed a deal with Manchester United, his current club PSV Eindhoven have confirmed.



Interest in the PSV Eindhoven star has come from both United and Premier League rivals Liverpool as well as Paris Saint Germain, but United were originally thought to have held the upper hand due to Depay working with United manager Louis van Gaal when he was the national team head coach.



Depay flew to England last month to hold official talks with United, but he also visited Liverpool during the trip and it was claimed that the Merseyside club impressed him with their facilities, desire to sign him and their outlook for the future.







But Dutch journalist Thijs Slegers tweeted on Thursday morning that United have won the race to sign the 21-year-old, and it’s thought that the PSV squad have been informed that Depay will be moving to Old Trafford when the transfer window reopens in the summer.



And the news was confirmed when PSV issued a statement on their official club website that said a deal is in place for Depay to join United.



It read: “PSV and Manchester United have reached an agreement on the transfer of Memphis Depay to the English club .



They also confirmed that Depay has agreed personal terms with the Red Devils, and will now travel to Manchester to complete the necessary paperwork and medical.



PSV’s tecnical director Marcel Brands added: “We are very proud of this upcoming transfer, which came in a huge moment. Memphis has gone through all the teams of the PSV youth academy and has played an important part in the national title this year.



“He ‘s a wonderful exponent of our training and will make a nice transition to a magnificent club in a beautiful competition. Regarding sports, we lose obviously a fantastic player, which is of great value to the team. But PSV grants him these wonderful step.”



United will pay around €30m (£22m) to sign the Netherlands international who has notched 27 goals in all competitions this season and has fired PSV to their first Eredivisie title in seven years.



Belgian football reporter Kristof Terreur added that while Depay is still training with PSV’s first-team squad, he will travel to Manchester later today to finalise the deal.

Two boxing fans have filed a class-action lawsuit against Manny Pacquiao for failing to disclose a shoulder injury before his defeat by Floyd Mayweather.

The 36-year-old will spend up to a year on the sidelines as he prepares to undergo surgery on his torn rotator cuff – an injury that he failed to disclose before his mega-fight with Mayweather on May 2 in Las Vegas.

ESPN reports that Nevada residents Stephane Vanel and Kami Rahbaran are suing on behalf of ‘all persons who purchased tickets; purchased the pay-per-view event; or who wagered money on the event’.

Billionaire owner of Nigerian telecommunication giant, Globacom, Otunba Mike Adenuga looks set to extend his business interest in Cote d’Ivoire with an audacious $600 million take over of Comium Cote d’Ivoire.

The Ivorian telecommunication company has been grappling with debt and cash flow problems to the tune of $25 million.

At the moment, Globacom has operations in Nigeria, Ghana and Benin Republic. Telegeopgraphy reported that Globacom, which already owns an international carrier services licence in Cote d’Ivoire, reportedly plans to invest over $1 billion in upgrading Comium-CI’s network over three years.

A subsidiary of Comium Group, a Lebanon-based telecommunications company owned by Lebanese businessman Nizar Dalloul, Comium CI has more than 900,000 mobile subscribers according to L’Autorite de Regulation des Telecommunications.

The group operates as a multi-service provider on four continents, specializing in Wireless Data Networks, GSM communications, Internet service provision and VoIP. Comium CI is heavily enmeshed in debt and has been given until 15 May to pay off its debts or risk being placed into receivership.

Mike Adenuga, 63, is the 2nd richest man in Nigeria with a fortune estimated at $4.7 billion according to FORBES’ World Billionaires ranking. He owes his fortune to his ownership of Nigerian mobile telecoms outfit Globacom, and Conoil Producing, a Nigerian oil exploration firm that operates six oil blocks in the Niger Delta.

Hate campaign against Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress by the President Goodluck Jonathan campaign team has been blamed by the National Working Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party as cause of the party’s defeat at the last general elections.

The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Olisa Metuh, made this submission to journalists at a news conference in Abuja on Monday.

He added that apart from the N500m, the Jerry Gana -led fund raising campaign committee generated about N21bn which it spent without involving the NWC members.

He said that the belief by the Jonathan campaign team that it could denigrate a respected statesman like Buhari, who is reverred in the North, instead of dwelling on issues, cost the party a lot of votes in that part of the country.

Among those that strongly attacked Buhari during the campaign were the First Lady, Patience Jonathan, and the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose.

Metuh expressed his displeasure that the NWC was shut out by the campaign team from Jonathan’s electioneering after receiving about N500m out of the N7bn generated from the sale of forms to the aspirants.

The PDP spokesman said, “We (NWC members) did not lead the party to failure. We were not involved in the campaigns and our advice was ignored. If we had handled the campaign, Mr. President would have won the election. We cannot be held responsible when our advice was ignored.

“I can tell you from my own records that we generated billions. I think we generated more than N7bn or N8bn or N9bn. We generated more than N7bn; we generated a lot of money.

“The first initial donation we made was half a billion to the presidential campaign funds even though we were not involved in raising funds for the presidential campaign.

“They generated campaign funds up to N21bn. The party was not involved in it and the party cannot account for it because we were not involved in the disbursement of that money. It was a Jerry Gana-led committee that handled it and nobody can question us for that.

“There is no governorship candidate that received less than N100m from this NWC . The House of Assembly candidates across the country got money from us too. The amount such people got depended on their states.

“These monies were given to some ministers and some people to distribute to the states. In some states, it was the campaign coordinators that we gave and in others, we gave to the governors or directly to the candidates of the party.

“For those of us in the North where the type of campaign that we generated made it impossible for our leaders in the North to garner support for our candidate(Jonathan) because of the hate campaign that was generated we are not answerable for it.

“We cannot be held accountable for issues that were generated that worked against our candidate in the North. This is clear; all Nigerians knew what happened.”

Defending allegations that members of the NWC received N30m each, the PDP spokesman said, “We state clearly that we have not been given any money. Rather, this NWC generated billions of naira from the sale of forms from where we funded our candidates for governorship and state assembly elections in all the states of the federation. This is in addition to funds released to key leaders, including NWC and BoT members to prosecute the campaigns in their various areas.

“The NWC is willing and ready to make this account public in line with the Freedom of Information Act.”

Metuh added, “When this wicked and baseless allegation was debunked by the NWC which publicly clarified that it was not involved in the handling of the campaign and its funding, and that such were exclusively managed by....

Storm Records Executive, Obi Asika has been hit with the sad news of the loss of his mother.

The showbiz guru recently took over from Reno Omokri as Special Adviser to President Jonathan on New Media.

Late Mrs Chinyere Asika passed on ‘peacefully in her sleep’ yesterday morning, the showbiz don’s sister, Nkiru Asika confirmed.

In a tribute, Nkiru said, “We have been so lucky. We have been so blessed. We love you Mummy always. Thanks for all the kind words and support from those of you who heard and are sharing our pain. I know this is a deep, deep loss for so many of you too.
To those of you who don’t know, we lost our mum yesterday morning. Quite unexpectedly but peacefully, she passed away in her sleep. May she rest in peace with Dad always.”

Burial plans will be announced by the family.

The bionic fighter, slugger and a brutal puncher with a fist of iron.
This is boxing at its best. It’s the best versus the best. The best defensive boxer against the best attacking boxer. The thinking and adjusting fighter versus the ever-surging fighter always coming at you to rip off your head. The vain, boastful, undefeated champion who knows all the tricks in the book of boxing against the one who has tasted defeated yet is still the man to beat the undefeated. This is a clash of contrasting styles. It is a tough one. And anyone can win.
Great fights have come and gone. Fights I keep rolling back the tapes to watch on Youtube. Fights like Cassius Clay versus Sonny Liston, Mohammed Ali versus Joe Frazier I, Thomas Hearns versus Sugar Ray Leonard, Sugar Ray Leonard versus Marvin Hagler, Mike Tyson versus Evander Holyfield. But none of these fights can match the expectations of Manny Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather. Mayweather is the defensive genius who has gone to win world titles in five divisions, not defeated for 20 years and earned half a billion dollars in career earnings.
On his part, Manny Pacquaio is the boy who started as a street urchin, turned into boxing to become a legend of boxing and a Congressman. He too has won in many divisions of boxing. He is a symbol of hope among his countrymen, a man who works to fight poverty and helps the poor by donating part of his money to help alleviate poverty. When it comes to boxing, he is sensational, he is unstoppable, he is indomitable, he is the Pacman.
For the first time, boxing experts are divided as to who will win. Some favour Pacquiao who is coming in as the underdog, while some think Mayweather is simply too smart to fall to Pacquiao’s “reckless” and relentless onslaught. The two boxers have trained and trained. And they are ready to go. For the first time, Mayweather is subdued. He is not boasting or talking trash as before, because of the respect he has for the man....

I feel compelled to use this column this week and address the women on some vital and sensitive issues that have been bothering me lately. In as much as I have come to identify the roles of women as being vital and complicated, I equally need them to understand that there is a part of them that really need to come up to be able to have a robust nature.

Why is it so difficult to get through to women and help them in some instances which are mostly salient, sensitive and destructive? Have you realized that most times, you have always been the vulnerable ones when issues happen and your issues come so strong with attitudes that are not welcoming from men? But must you join hands with the men to completely run you down till you become what you were not originally created for?
We all know you are carved-out to submit to the men in your lives of which you are under obligation to do if you must enjoy your marriage. However, that submission has a boundary and if you ask me, I will tell you that it must be balanced! For example, you were never created to submit to and harbor a pedophile of a husband; your creator never sees your submission in the light of defending and excusing a sexually promiscuous husband who chases anything in skirt including your daughters (step daughters most times) and your blood sisters. The last time I checked, your creator never informed you that your obedience to your husband is absolute to the point that if he is making you a mini porn star, or a punching bag, it is still very much okay to keep mute and cover him up!

Pardon me, this write-up is not a wholistic view of what women are not doing right but an objective assessment and caution on realizing who they are and what they are not in life so I may not really be able to meet your expectation as to what a natural African man would want...

Barely 24 hours after her husband had warned the president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari against sending any Nigerian to prison when he assume office, Hajia Mujahidat Daba Dokubo-Asari wife of ex Niger Delta militant, Asari Dokubi has once again affirmed that no one can arrest her husband.

Her reason, the Niger Delta freedom fighter never held any political office and will never be held accountable for anything under president Jonathan’s administration.

She voiced her anger via a post on Facebook thus “Buhari must start his victimisation of his perceived enemies called probing of missing funds from his own cabinet first and the said probe must take effect from 1978 when Buhari was the petroleum minister anything short of that is unacceptable to the Nigerian populace.

“ The probing must be all round not selective. For those myopic Almajiri fools who blab that Asari will be prosecuted , I’m sorry to disappoint you , Asari has never held any political post so think of something else if your Buhari arrest Asari today, another one thousand Asari will sprang up instantly unless he want to commit genocide in the Niger delta. which you know is not possible in a democratic dispensation.

Social commentator and filmmaker, Charles Novia has condemned the clampdown of the office of Presiden-Elect, Muhammadu Buhari on African Independent Television (AIT).

Novia noted that he always held the opinion that “freedom of expression will be curtailed in the next government.”

The award-winning filmmaker who posted his opinion on his facebook account said, “If this report is true, it shows the colouration of Buhari’s government to the Press. As a President, you must be tolerant. There’s no REASON to be vindictive to the Press. Hasn’t President Jonathan shown a good example by being tolerant and indifferent to all the insults the opposition Press had for him all these years? Someone should tell Buhari that the year is 2015 and not 1984. If he comes in with a vengeance, he cannot have a focused reign. You don’t screw with the Press or Freedom of Association.

“If any of his goons have issues with AIT or Chief Dokpesi, the Press Council and Law Courts are there to utilize. I have said it that freedom of expression will be curtailed in the next government and this will prove my suspicions right.

There have been an uproar since news report broke the news of the ban of African Independent Television by President-Elect, Muhammadu Buahari.

APC’s Presidential Campaign Organisation spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, explained in details the reason for the ban.

“AIT has been asked to stay aside based on security and family concerns. In addition, Gen Buhari has decided that they will have to resolve some issues relating to standard and ethics,” he said.

“We will be talking with them to try and resolve the matter but for now the station has been asked to stay aside because like I said there are some family and security concerns. They have been asked to step down their coverage until we resolve the matter with them on ethics and standards.”

This are not pleasant times for gospel singer, Kenny K’ore following the kidnap of his sister, Taiwo Oluwatoyin Akinbode.
Taiwo has been declared missing since Friday, April 16 when she left for a job prospect in Port Harcourt.
Unknown to her, she was walking into a trap of the kidnappers.
Family sources now say that a ransom of N5m is being demanded from the family for her release.
It was gathered further that Taiwo’s two phones has been unreachable ever since.
ExpressNG gathered that the kidnap victim was heard wailing in pain from torture when the kidnappers spoke to the singer.

The family has contacted the police in Lagos, and PH, the Anti-kidnapping unit in Lagos and PH, SSS, NIA, AIG, and IG’s office, but all have proved abortive.
The family is now asking that well meaning Nigerians support Kenny, and his family in prayers, and in anyway possible to get his sister back safe and sound.

One of the daughters of the late MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election, has pegged the victory of the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, as similar in stance to that of her late father.

Mrs. Hafsat Abiola-Costello, who is the founder of the Kudirat Initiative for Democracy, stated that Buhari’s campaign of change had given Nigerians a fresh new hope.

She further urged the President-elect to act in line with people’s expectations of him and not to disappoint Nigerians.

Abiola-Costello made her point known when the senator-elect of Kaduna-Central senatorial district Alhaji Shehu Sani, paid a visit to the Abiola family in Lagos, on Thursday.

In her words, “I wrote a letter before the elections expressing my support for Gen. Buhari and for us in this house, we are happy to see that he emerged victorious in spite of the many efforts to deny him of victory but we must be aware that one man cannot change Nigeria. Such a person needs a strong team.

“We need people who are ready to sacrifice for Nigeria. That was the first time I ever endorsed a candidate and it was because the way Nigeria was going, I felt this was our last chance to get things right. I didn’t see a better way to save Nigeria. Before we start celebrating, we need to know those who will constitute his team

“This is similar to what we saw in 1993 when people looked beyond ethnicity and religion and chose MKO Abiola. You can see that Nigerians are trying to tell the world that they deserve better.”

A reporter who visited his final resting place at the Ebony Private Vault entrance was made to cough out N3,000 before he could gain access.

According to the reporter the burial ground looked unkempt and has been overtaken by weeds.
On arrival at the Ebony Private vault entrance, the attendant, who gave his name as Christian, denied our reporter entry, saying:
The security guy identified as Christian flatly refused entrance when approached.
‘Oga, I no dey allow anybody go see Dagrin grave o, the place dey abandoned since all these years, nobody dey come check am, na we dey use our money maintain am, so before you see am you go pay.’

Even an offer of N1,000 was rejected by the security officer. ‘My oga say before anybody go see am, they must pay between N3,000 – N5,000. My oga na Ebony and he no like am as them abandon the boy grave for here since all these years, so anybody wey wan see am, must pay for maintenance,’ he said.
