Agriculture / Two Million Nigerian Farmers To Benefit From Saro Agroscience initiative by famobaba(m): 7:05am On Sep 17, 2016
As the Federal Government intensifies its diversification plans, about two million Nigerian farmers are now set to benefit from the roll out of a new initiative by foremost agricultural firm, Saro Agroscience Nigeria Limited.

This was revealed by Mr Oluwole Adeyegbe, Managing Director of the company dring the unveiling of the Specialized and Large Farmers division of the company to stakeholders including financial institutions, farmers and others at their corporate headquarters in Lagos.

To underscore the importance of the new initiative, Adeyegbe revealed that it is capable of enhancing crop yield and income for Nigerian farmers.

He said, “The division we are launching today is focused on specialized and large scale farmers. By this, specialized farmers are those who operate green houses and large farmers are those with large expense of farm land. Our package for small farmers makes available important crop procession products that farmers that are small can afford for the benefit of their farms and thereby improve their crop yield.

On that we are unequivocal that we are going to reach two million farmers within the next three years and we are going to improve their livelihood with inputs that will improve their yield.

While making an assessment policy direction of the President Muhammadu Buhari led administration, the Saro Agroscience boss said noted that Government is taking a step in the right direction.

“The government is quite keen in supporting agric because diversification is nonnegotiable in the face of scarce foreign exchange. It is important for Nigerians and Nigeria to look inward. Agriculture is readily available through crop and livestock production among others. Agric is a way out and can help us increase Nigeria’s foreign exchange earnings through exportation. Agric is a readymade employer of labour that can help in reducing unemployment. There is a lot that we can achieve through Agriculture as a country. I think the government of the day is well focused on this and are going in the right direction,” he added.

Speaking on the irrigation system at the media launch themed “Saro Creating Wealth And Empowerment Through Innovating Agricultural Technologies”, held yesterday, Thursday, September 15, 2016,

Also speaking on a presentation entitled “Saro Creating Wealth And Empowerment Through Innovating Agricultural Technologies,” Patrick Ohaji, Head of Business, SAS Large Farms Solution, said that the company has open field drip irrigation for maize, lettuce, cabbage and other crops.

He further noted that “the greenhouses are fixed at 10x24m which is equivalent to 240 square meters, but for small farmers, it is usually advised that they use open field because of the cost implications and specialties involved in certain crop protection products to produce at their own level.”

Established in 1991, Saro AgroSciences –a subsidiary of SaroAfrica International Group has grown to be leading marketer and distributor of Crop Protection Products, farm machineries, irrigation and greenhouses in Nigeria.

Religion / Chris Oyakhilome Preaching Witchcraft, Author Blasts Over Anti-feminist Sermon by famobaba(m): 6:46pm On Sep 08, 2016
Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has drawn the ire of Nigerian feminists after he preached a sermon that wives must accept husbands as masters, they are not equals!

Responding, Joy Isi-Bewaji, a popular feminist and author dismissed the preacher as a man sulking after divorce from his wife who is fondly called Pastor Anita.

In a viral Facebook post that has gathered over 70 shares and 300 likes, the fiery feminist seize the moment to criticize anti-feminists sermon emanating from Nigerian Pastors.

Sources - http://expressng.com/2016/09/chris-oyakhilome-preaching-witchcraft-author-blasts-over-anti-feminist-sermon/

She wrote…

Chris Oyakhilome is just a bitter man because his wife dumped his cheating ass.

Go an' sit down on a pile of shit.

The woman has moved on to better things.

I can imagine a marriage where the man thinks the wife is an "after-thought"...

The life you need to bear.

*shivers*

First we are not equal to men. Now we are an after-thought.

What next? What sick revelation will these religious fools spew in 2017?

The pile of dirt and manipulations these men of dogs are made of.

Nigeria is one of the poorest nations in the world...

When is your god going to heal the land where you have made billions... the land you have ravaged with spiritual deceit?

You are flying private jets in a land where 85% are dirt poor and you justify it with God's blessing on your own life.

What these people are preaching is witchcraft.

They are destroying families. Ruining the lives of young Nigerians. And adding no value whatsoever to our growth as a people.

Abrahamic religions are the bane of our society and sanity.

To hell with these idiots.

You couldn't keep a home... it is paining you that your wife left...

Now you want to make sure every woman in a marriage suffers for what your Ex did to you (or really, what you did to her)...

Daft husbands will sit and listen to this crap.

A woman is about to become the first citizen of the entire world.

According to your warped interpretation...she is an afterthought?

Hillary Clinton is an after-thought. Serena is an after-thought. Theresa May is an after-thought. Angela Merkel is an after-thought. Queen Elizabeth is an after-thought.

Your mother is an after-thought.

Someone...anyone, hand Chris his medication.

Celebrities / Age Controversy Trails Funke Akindele, 39 Or 40? - Expressng.com by famobaba(m): 10:49am On Aug 26, 2016
Actress Funke Akindele is now enmeshed in an age controversy after conflicting claims emerged about her real age.

The actress turnesday 24, August and marked the occasion privately in London with her musician lover, JJC Skillz.

While the actress claimed that she is age 39, a conflicting claim on her Wikipedia said that she is now 40 years old. According to the public online biography, the actress was born Akindele Olufunke Ayotunde on August 24, 1976 in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria.

In another twist, a Nollywood producer who does not want to be named has insisted that the actress is about 44 year old.

“As at when she starred in I Need To Know, Funke’s age was already more than the teenage character which she portrayed. She is not 39 or 40 as she claims, she is 44 years old. I have been around for quite a while to know this for sure. Age falsification and reduction is a trend in Nollywood and indeed every sector of the society, this is not the first time it is coming up,” revealed the filmmaker.

Explaining why movie personalities false their ages, a brand expert, Ikechukwu Orji said that corporate organizations are more disposed to associating with celebrities who are younger due to their youth segment appeal. "In the corporate sector, we prefer to work more with celebrities with youth appeal and age plays a factor in this," Orji said.

Celebrities / Psquare Is Finally Back, I Take The Blame – Peter Okoye by famobaba(m): 11:54am On Jul 25, 2016
Peter Okoye has confirmed that Psquare is finally back.

He wrote on Instagram @peterpsquare and shared a video

My dear fans, P-Square is back. Ours is a journey that started from our mother’s womb. It was a journey that started from Primary School, continued to St. Murumba College, to when we were in University in Abuja. It was a journey in which we shared childhood memories and grown-up dreams. We are back because brothers do not let each other wander in the dark alone. We are back because we have tried the lonely road and it was not the same.

I want to take responsibility for what has happened and sincerely apologise to you our fans. For supporting us throughout this journey we owed you so much more than what you have had to endure and I apologise for that. We are embarking now on a new journey with exciting new management, new music and new ideas.

We cannot thank you enough for all your prayers and support throughout this difficult period. Maya Angelou once said that brotherhood is a condition that people have to work at. We will continue to work on that and you can be prepared to be blown away by this new phase of P-Square.

God bless you all and be assured that you have not seen anything yet!

Senator Buruji kashamu bought a newspaper page in The Nation Newspaper to blast Ekiti Governor, Ayo Fayose and Dr Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo States.

His response came on the heels of the crisis rocking the Peoples' Democratic Party (PDP) in the South West.

Some parts of his comment reads,

"Both Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Ayo fayose and Dr. Segun Mimiko of Ondo State really disappointed well-meaning leaders and members of the party. How can these two governors who have the law to thank for their current positions brazenly work against the law? It is rather unfortunate that Governor Mimiko allowed himself to be railroaded to Fayose's den of infamy; much more is expected of anyone of his calibre who found redemption from the law courts. Both governors have, by their complicity in the nullity that took place on Saturday 14 of May in Akure, shown that they are agents of anarchy, discord and deceit.

Politics / Nduka Obaigbena:Thesun,tribune,newtelegraph,Guardian React To N120m Compensation by famobaba(m): 9:00am On Dec 12, 2015
More revelations have followed reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration doled out cash to 12 media companies through Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, President of the Newspapers Proprietors’ Association of Nigeria.

This followed investigations by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is investigating series of allegedly dubious payments made to politicians and government officials by a former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

Investigators had earlier invited the Chairman/Editor-in-Chief of Thisday Newspapers, Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, whom Dasuki reportedly gave N670m.

In a letter dated December 9, 2014, Obaigbena disclosed that he collected N550m as compensation for the Boko Haram attacks on Thisday’s offices in Abuja and Kaduna on April 26, 2012 adding that he received an additional N120m as compensation for 12 newspaper houses whose copies were seized by soldiers in June 2014.

The newspapers are Thisday, Vanguard, The Sun, The Nation, New Telegraph, Daily Trust, People’s Daily, Leadership, Daily Independence, Nigerian Tribune, The Guardian and Business Day.

However, while some of the newspapers listed to have benefitted from the N120m confirmed doing so, others said neither Obaigbena nor NPAN remitted any money to them as claimed by the Thisday Publisher

New Telegraph Newspaper

A statement from the Managing Director/Editor-in-Chief of the New Telegraph Newspapers, Mrs. Funke Egbemode, denied that N10m was paid to the company by NPAN.

It says, “It is on record that following the decision of NPAN to seek compensation from the Federal Government in the aftermath of the seizure of editions of newspapers by the military, New Telegraph computed its losses, which were passed to the association. However, since then, the company has heard nothing from the association on the matter.

“Following a report that NPAN has begun paying N9m (not N10m as contained in the report that has gone viral on the Internet), the management of Daily Telegraph Publishing Company Limited, publishers of New Telegraph, Saturday Telegraph and Sunday Telegraph, has written three letters to NPAN for its share of the compensation; but regrettably, as at this moment, not even a kobo has been received.

“Therefore, it is nothing but sheer falsehood for the NPAN president, who claimed he received the money on behalf of the association, to have included New Telegraph Newspapers as one of the beneficiaries of the funds, which as it has now emerged, was disbursed by the former NSA.”

Tribune Newspapers

A statement signed by the company’s Managing Director/ Editor- in- Chief, Mr Edward Dickson, faulted claims made by Mr Obaigbena that the Tribune was one of the 12 newspaper companies compensated by the Federal Government for the June 2014 attacks on newspapers, their circulation personnel and vehicles by soldiers in Abuja and parts of the north.

The two paragraph statement reads:

“Our attention has been drawn to claims by the Publisher of Thisday newspapers who is also President of the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria (NPAN), Mr. Nduka Obaigbena, that a sum of N10 million was paid to our company through NPAN by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) as compensation for the disruption of our circulation operations, seizure of our newspapers and damage to our property by soldiers in June, 2014.

“Although, like other NPAN members, we filed claims as requested for by NPAN, the fact of the matter is that up till this moment, 11th December, 2015, our company is yet to receive a kobo as compensation from NPAN for the 2014 disruptive activities of the military to our operations.”

As a company, we collected N9m –Daily Trust

One of the media companies, which received the payment, Daily Trust, issued a statement on Friday through its Editor-In-Chief, Mannir Dan Ali, and also confirmed that it collected N9m.

Ali said, “It was at the time military personnel were interrupting the distribution of our newspapers. We considered the option of going to court to seek for damages but there was a meeting of Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria. We were told (at the meeting) that government was desirous of compensating those who lost whatever it was that they lost in terms of not being able to distribute their newspapers for the number of days that that operation happened; and that all members of NPAN who were affected, should submit their claims.

“Media Trust submitted its own claims. At the end of the day, ten million Naira (N10m) was to be given to us out of which, the consensus made at the NPAN level was that NPAN had issues with its Secretariat and out of that N10m, N1m was ceded to NPAN. As a company, we were given nine million naira (N9m) as compensation for the losses we suffered over that period.”

Leadership Newspapers: We got N10m

The Deputy Managing Director, Leadership Newspaper, Mr. Mike Okpere, also confirmed that the Abuja-based newspaper got N10m. He said, “We did a computation of our loss and it was substantially more than that N10m and we gave it to NPAN and NPAN I heard handed it over to the NSA and what it resulted in was that each newspaper House was given N10m each as compensation. NPAN was to go to court. This was out of court settlement. That is what happened.”

We did not collect any money –Peoples Daily

One of the first newspapers to deny receiving the money was Peoples Daily Newspaper. In an email to one of our correspondents by its management, the company said it did not receive any compensation from government.

It says, “One of the revelations on the current inquisition of the tenure of the former National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.) is that this newspaper is among several other national dailies that received the sum of N10m from the office of the former NSA through Nduka Obaigbena, the President of Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria.

“We don’t know of others, therefore, we can’t speak for them. This is news to us. At no time was such money made available to us in whatever guise. We wish to state clearly that it is false and therefore, wish to completely distant this medium from this revelation.”

The Sun Newspapers

The Sun Publishing Limited, in a statement, denied claims that it received a share of the alleged $2.1bn slush fund from the Office of the NSA.

It, however, admitted to
