Editor’s Note: Everyday of this week beginning today, Monday July 13, ExpressNG editorial team will provide fresh insights installmentally into the spiral journey of Nigerian Reggae sensation, Majek Fashek. These are documentary accounts that was gleaned from those who knew the troubled singer from the onset when he first appeared on NTA Benin alongside bandmate Amos ‘McRoy’ Osifo in the 70s’. We also initiated a unique hashtag #SavingMajek which hopefully will go on to become a symbol or ‘Redemption Song’ of sorts for the ‘Rainmaker’.

In the first decade of Post-Marley era, a bona fide Rastafarian or a dye-in-the-wool reggae fans would hardly doubt that Majek Fashek was Marley’s heir – hugely talented on a scale close to the Jamaican singer, his voice so uncannily similar to that of the departed reggae maestro, the Nigerian and the Jamaican were both cut from the same mould. Whatever doubt you have fizzles when you listen to his version of “Redemption Song.” His brand of reggae took the world by storm. At reggae concerts across the world, from Jamaica to Cote d’Ivoire, he was the favourite headline act. What’s more, he had recorded a song that has a touch of mystique. “Send Down the Rain.” It was known that if you take Majek to the Sahara or Kalahari Desert and if he chose to sing that song, heaven will acquiesce. Rain must fall. He was a magician and “Send Down the Rain” was his magic wand. The Nigerian media aptly nicknamed him The Rainmaker. At the peak of Majek’s reign, his closest competitor on the continent, South African Lucky Dube played second fiddle. Yes, Dube was a genius, but Majek was a demigod of reggae.

For some time, his flame of fame burnt vigorously. Send Down The Rain won him six PMAN awards. Fortune found him. The first Black African musician to appear on the David Letterman Show in 1992 where he performed live his song So Long, his fame spread beyond the shores of Nigeria and outside the reggae universe. America beckoned and off he went to God’s Own Country, to greener pasture, to greater glory. In a country, firmly by hip hop and R&B, Majek’s songs enjoyed airwaves from coast to coast. In the vexing days of the Rodney King saga, Majek’s song “Fire” was a rallying anthem. He had the American Dream in his pocket. You can say that again.

Abruptly, his symphony became discordant. Like in the Greek tragedy, what came next was reversal of fortune. A fall from the Olympian height of fame. Majek plummeted – and he is still plummeting – to penury. A man who once had it all lost it all. Fame, fortune, friends and family. Abruptly, he veered out of the orbit of stardom onto a dark trajectory. Like a ship lost deep in space these past 12 years, finding his way back to his own galaxy becomes an indecipherable riddle. A lost star. Jinxed and jaded.

The Charles Novia-produced 2005 Little Patience album and the 2011 single video on Youtube, “Jah Revelation” at different times gave his fans false hopes of a renaissance, a misleading notion that he was close to finding his way out.....

Kourtney Kardashian finally moves Scott Disick stuff away from their Calabasas family home.It is getting messy for party-hungry Scott Disick, as he is reported to be away partying despite their marriage crisis.

According to sources, Kourtney Kardashian arranged the removal of the his belongings(mostly his clothing), and had it all sent to the house Scott purchased recently in Beverly Hills.

It is yet to be reported if party-hungry scott knows about this arrangement.

Disick bought the home(a five-bedroom, six-bath house),with the intention of flipping it, but from looking at recent development,it may well become his “Home Sweet Home”.

Disick is still partying in Florida and scheduled to make a club appearance Friday night in Las Vegas.

I was having a discussion with some group of people few days back on issues that bother on marriage. The entertainment industry’s finest came out in troves to celebrate the launch of Africa Magic’s new sitcom, Do-Good that will start airing soon.

The TV show is being produced by Kate Henshaw herself.

A furious Cristiano Ronaldo stormed out of an interview after being questioned on the future of Real Madrid team-mate Sergio Ramos.

Ronaldo’s former club Manchester United had a £35million opening bid for the Spain defender rejected last week.

Ramos, who was upset at being undervalued by the La Liga giants over a contract stalemate, has told Bernabeu chiefs that he wants his situation resolved by this Friday before Real embark on their tour to Australia and China.

I have joined a lot of conversations ignited by many ethnic champions on social media on the so-called 10 appointments made so far by President Buhari, especially the ones by the Yoruba irredentists, mostly firing from abroad. My take remains these are civil service positions where seniority often takes precedence. I will only complain when political appointments are made and national spread is not taken into consideration. I mean political appointments into the executive leadership of MDAs and Boards. Those listing ADC,CSO, Chief of Protocol to the President, Acting DPR Director, Acting INEC Chairman and Accountant General of the Federation to mean political appointments are nothing but mischief makers and confusionists. These are civil service and public service appointments that are governed by rules, mostly seniority.



Let us face the truth as Southerners, Northerners are more in both public and civil service and funny enough they are more in the leadership cadre of the civil service. Sadly, we may not have Southerner Chief Justice of Nigeria in the next 20 years because the 3 or 4 most senior Supreme Court Justices are Northerners. I am not sure we have even had Southerner Chief Justice of the Federation since 1999. The closest may be Justice Belgore from Ilorin, Kwara State. About 7 years ago, it was discovered that there was nobody that can be Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service from Bayelsa State as the most senior civil servant from Bayelsa was an assistant or a deputy Director. Political consideration had to be used to balance it and I think that was how Ambassador Godsday Igali who was former SSG in Bayelsa was brought in and he is now Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Power. It was only Bayelsa State that had no Permanent Secretary in the Federal Civil Service then.



This problem will continue and we will continue to be ‘Wailing Wailers’ apology to Femi Adesina as long as we Southerners continue to look down on Civil Service and Public Service jobs. Come to think of it, our people ordinarily do not want to go to.....

Trust is defined as the reliance on the integrity, strength and ability of a person. It is a sort of confidence you place on someone dear to you because you believe he or she will always be sincere with you in whatever is being said, watch your back, will not cheat on you and will always be there for you. This equally means you are honest with the other person in the relationship; you are reliable, responsible and dependable.

There are times when relationships are devoid of this element called trust perhaps, based on previous experiences from the past relationships. People do this a lot in order to prevent history repeating itself in their lives. More often than not, lack of trust has got nothing to do with peoples’ past experiences but based on what they have heard other people went through. I have heard a lot of people express lack of trust in the opposite sex yet they never dated anyone or at best, in one very complicated relationship and they end up using that to conclude for everybody in the world. Does that make sense? Yes, it is okay to safeguard ourselves from getting hurt, but then, I think people over do things in their analysis which only result in pushing the other person away.

Trust is an integral part of any thriving relationship. Without trust, it’s hard to get close to the other person and to rely on him or her for support. This happens mostly when we import most of our excess baggage from previous hurt into our next relationship, it does much harm than what we seek to prevent, most especially with someone who really want to be serious with us. It is very important that people are different and there is no law that states that you will definitely continue to experience what you did in your last two or three relationships, so let us put aside the common blunder that all men are dogs and all women are only money freak!

Look at a situation where you meet someone who is very open by nature (which you might not have noticed). Such a person would also naturally desire to have an open person without necessarily expecting you to share every little detail of your life with him or her if it feels uncomfortable at a certain stage. At the same time not a person with a façade that gives a funny impression. Reasonable people want people who will make them part of their lives and treat them without any form of preconceived notion of what men or women are like. When you get into a relationship, make judgments based on your experience with that individual because it doesn’t make sense to connect your messed up experience with that person. Good men and women still exist out there in large number.

Irrespective of where you are coming from, nobody can build any meaningful relationship without the foundation of trust. It is very crucial. Lack of trust would involve second guessing and not believing each other. It will also.....

Below are some 19 lessons:



1. Love is a choice, not an emotion: As more years pass, you realize that each day you have to consciously choose to love. You cannot rely on the “emotional” feelings you had the first month you met.

2. Love is a commitment: You must resolve to love regardless. Marriage is not for those who want to try if it will work or not. It is for those who resolve to make it work no matter the challenges.

3. Leave your parents: Many marriages fail because one or both partners fails to cut the umbilical cord to his/her parents. Don’t keep going back to mama to cry! Focus on building your marriage.

4. Develop your own set of values: None of you should impose his/her parents’ values to be fully adopted in your new family. Many of the things your parents do/did, might not work for you 100%. Create your own marriage constitution and live by it.

5. Don’t borrow money to finance the wedding: I am glad we never borrowed a cent to finance our wedding! We told our families we just had enough money to get into church, get married and come out happy as husband and wife. If they wanted a celebration, they were welcome to host it! And they did, a garden reception at Lilongwe Hotel!!!

6. Don’t believe the lie that “Banja ndi mavuto”: Choose to create a happy marriage not a sad one. Whatever your chosen mindset about marriage, it will manifest.

7. Choose to focus on the good and not the weaknesses: We all have the bad side, but love must choose to focus on the good, on what is lovely, what is praiseworthy. (Philippians 4:

8. “Keep the Main Thing, The Main Thing”: Your marriage should be the main thing. Avoid the temptation to separate and live in different towns, cities, countries just to “earn a living” Life is for living, and choose to live it together. Let what God has put together remain together.

9. Choose which battles to fight and which ones to ignore: Our first major fight within a month of our marriage was about how to hang curtains! Years down the lane, I don’t give a damn how they are hang!

10. Learn to forgive: If you are just young in love, you take things too seriously sometimes. Listen, your mate is just human and full of errors and weaknesses. If you want to marry an angel, then wait till you are dead!

11. Grow and develop with your partner: Don’t let only one of you do the extra studies, the extra reading, the career advancement. You need to keep a healthy closeness mentally.

12. Create special moments to remember: Don’t let your marriage be dull by following a boring routine of waking up, going to work, coming back, eating, sleeping, waking up again… Do some special....

Veteran and Iconic Nollywood act, Pete Edochie who is one of the pioneers of Nollywood has reacted to claims by a Kenyan who claimed the highly respected thespian is his dad.

Ina an interview with Vanguard News, the actor denied accusations of him fathering a child outside wedlock.

He responded asking why the child in question hasn’t shown up if it were true.
’Why didn’t he come to Nigeria?’ Edochie asked rhetorically.
‘I have never been to Kenya before. Where did I meet his mother? I am not a wayward person. Peter has been my Personal Assistant for over 17 years. If I were a sexually adventurous person, he wouldn’t have stayed with me for this long. But each time somebody calls me he picks up the phone. Somebody brought the story from the internet and showed it to me,’ he said.

All is not well between Difference Entertainment boss, D’Tunes and his artiste, Sean Tizzle.
