PoliticsEx-minister’s Servant Charged To Court For Allegedly Stealing N11m Rolex Watch by faroukfahima(op): 11:36am On Jun 05, 2015
A 29- year- old man, Paul Agbota, has been charged to court for allegedly stealing a wristwatch valued at N11 million, from former Minister of External Affairs, Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi.

Agbota who is a former ‘houseboy’ of Prof. Akinyemi, also stole other watches and luxury accessories worth N9 million from Akinyemi’s residence on April 23, 2015.

Agbota who is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing at an Ikeja’s Magistrate Court, pleaded not guilty.

Eranus Nnamonu, the Prosecuting Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), told the court that Agbota committed the offence on April 23 at 5:30pm at Akinyemi residence on Femi Deru Close, Opebi, Lagos state.

He said Agbota had conspired with other employees still at large to steal their employers’ Rolex watch valued at N11 million, and other watches and other accessories valued at N9 million.

Nnamonu said the theft was punishable by Section 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe, who is presiding over the case, granted the accused a N1million bail with two sureties in the like sum. She also ordered that N50, 000 be deposited with the court’s deputy registrar as part of the bail conditions, and adjourned the case to July 9.

PoliticsHow It Went Down Today In Chad On Pres. Buhari Visit by faroukfahima(op): 5:54pm On Jun 04, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari visited the Republic of Chad on Thursday where he was received at the Hassan Djamouss International Airport by President Idriss Deby and other top ranking officials in that country.

Buhari later had a private discussion with Deby which was then expanded to include the delegations from both countries. The bilateral discussion focused mainly on the security situation in the region.

President Buhari thanked his Chadian counterpart for that country’s “invaluable support in the fight against insurgency and sustained acts of terrorism in the north east of Nigeria.”

“Your troops have stood shoulder-to-shoulder and fought gallantly with ours, in the fight against the forces of evil. This is a remarkable show of good neighborliness, which we must reinforce in the years ahead,” he said.

The two presidents condemned the scourge of Boko Haram and their inhumane acts against civilians. They underlined the consequences of insecurity which include displacement of people and disruption of their trading activities, livelihood, and destruction of lives and properties in Nigeria and the entire Lake Chad region.

Speaking at the meeting, Buhari said: “Your Excellency, permit me to note that our security is intricately linked. This compels us to cooperate fully on security issues in a robust and sustained manner. To this end, we must redouble our efforts to operationalize the Multi-National Joint Task Force with its Headquarters in Ndjamena. I believe the Task Force will stabilize the areas that have been ravaged by the Boko Haram insurgency when it becomes fully operational. I am very confident that, Insha Allah, this insurgency will be brought to an end soon.”

Both Heads of State expressed their willingness and commitment to collaborate at all levels to make more effective the common fight against the Boko Haram sect and restore peace and security which are vital for development in the region.

Buhari condoled the families of Chadian soldiers who passed away in the battle field, and paid special tribute to the gallant soldiers.

President Deby commended the commitment of President Buhari to eradicating the Boko Haram terrorist group. He also reaffirmed the commitment and availability of Chad to collaborate with Nigeria on both bilateral and multilateral levels.

Deby agreed with the need to move quickly to make the Multinational Joint Task Force operational in order to restore peace and security in the north-east of Nigeria and everywhere Boko Haram operates.

Both Heads of State agreed that war on Boko Haram should be supported by emergency development initiatives in areas affected by this insurgency group. This will be the only way to overcome the harmful effects faced by local populations.

PoliticsEnough Is Enough, Prostitution Should Be Legalized - Prostitutes Protest by faroukfahima(op): 5:19pm On Jun 04, 2015
Abuja prostitutes protest incessant arrest by officials , Some prostitutes in Abuja have taken to the streets to protest against indiscriminate arrest and extortion by the law enforcement agencies.

More than 500 commercial sex workers in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory, took to the streets protesting the incessant and indiscriminate arrests and extortion of their members by the FCT Special Task Team on City Cleaning and Management, reports say.

The prostitutes under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Prostitutes (NANP), expressed their anger after more than 3,000 of their members were arrested in various raids in the last
three months by the FCT officials in different parts of the capital city.
Parading the town with different placards with inscriptions like:

‘Ashewo work na work'; ‘Allow us to hustle for our daily bread'; and ‘Legalize prostitution now’, the scarlet ladies showed their dismay at the way their members are molested daily by different task forces and security operatives.

One of the ladies who said her name is Loveth, narrated their experiences to our source:

“We are Nigerians too and we only go about seeking our daily livelihood, so I see no reason why they should be harassing, arresting us and extorting money from us. These same men are the ones who patronize us but during the day, they will be molesting us. What crimes have we committed? Many of us are graduates who could not secure jobs, so we hustle to make ends meet. We have families and responsibilities to meet, so they should allow us to work and make money.

Many of us do not like selling ourselves for money but what can we do? We are not thieves; we are not members of the political class who steal Nigeria’s money. If the government want us to stop what we are doing, they should provide jobs for us. We are tired of the daily harassment. Enough is enough; prostitution should be legalized in Nigeria.”

PoliticsNigerians Won’t Regret Electing Me - Pres. Buhari by faroukfahima(op): 8:20am On Jun 04, 2015
President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday assured Nigerians that he would do all within his powers to ensure that they would not regret entrusting national responsibility to him by electing him during the March 28 presidential election.

Buhari made the submission in an address he delivered to members of the Nigerian community in Niger during his visit to the country. Adding that his administration was capable of fixing the nation’s problems.

A copy of his speech was made available to journalists in Abuja by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu.

Buhari told the Nigerian community that his government was just coming on board and was still in
the process of setting out appropriate modalities on how to actualise its agenda of revamping Nigeria as contained in the manifesto of the All Progressives Congress. The reason Nigerians voted for him.

He however urged them to exercise patience because “the task of rebuilding Nigeria is an arduous one.”

He reiterated his position that to ensure accelerated development, his administration would concentrate on challenges of insecurity, near economic collapse, pervasive corruption and power shortages.

Punch reports he said:

“I want to reassure (you) that we are going to tackle these challenges head on. Nigerians will not regret that they have entrusted national responsibility to us. We must not succumb to hopelessness and defeatism. We can fix our problems. However, daunting as the task to surmount these challenges may be, they are by no means insurmountable.

There is now a national consensus that our chosen route to national development is democracy. To achieve our objectives, we must consciously work to improve the democratic system.”

Buhari also assured them that his government would be resolute in ensuring that the country’s regained its enviable position among the comity of nations.

He however said he needed all Nigerians, including those in the Diaspora, to partner his administration in order to realise the dream.

“I want to conclude by urging you to continue to remain law-abiding and to continue to be good ambassadors of the country as we embark on the journey of rebirth, development, evolution and integration,” the President concluded.

PoliticsList Of 46 Bills The Nigerian Senate Passed Yesterday by faroukfahima(op): 7:45am On Jun 04, 2015
Yesterday the strangest thing happened when the Nigerian Senate passed a record 46 bills into law in just 10 minutes.

The bills were introduced by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Rules and Business, Senator Ita Enang and all 46 of them had been recently passed by the lower House of Representatives.

The Senate’s decision to pass the bills was predicated on the fact that the life of the current assembly is expected to expire in a few days time and that enough resources had already been expended in processing the bills, hence there was the need to pass them and forward same to the President for his assent.

According to Enang, the “bills by this resolution are hereby read and deemed read a third time and passed, to be transmitted to the President for assent in accordance with the Acts (Authentication) Act, and the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

“That the votes and proceedings containing all bills be produced for adoption, as passed by the House.”

Not everyone accepted the fast track.

Some senators led by Senator Domingo Obende, Edo State, and George Sekibo, Rivers State, opposed the passage of the bills in less than ten minutes.

The Senate President asked them to write their names and signature when the house became too rowdy and efforts to calm them failed.

President Goodluck Jonathan has announced that he will exit the Presidential Villa on Friday, same day President-elect (Muhammadu Buhari) is inaugurated.

President Goodluck made this open at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja while receiving members of the Universal Peace Foundation who conferred on him the Peace-Loving Global Citizen award.
“My singular act has made you now to come and honour us. Not just me, I ran the election with the vice president and if we had won, two of us would have been here; but by that act, two of us are packing out on Friday. He equally deserves the encomium that you have given me. My party, the PDP, also deserves the encomium award”, Jonathan said at the event.

PoliticsYou Can’t Use And Dump Me - Adamu Muazu To PDP Members by faroukfahima(op): 7:03pm On May 03, 2015
https://www.forumspotz.net/wp-content/uploads/2015/05/Adamu-Muazu.jpg

Alhaji Adamu Muazu, the national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, on Saturday told the members of the party that he would not resign despite the woeful performance at the 2015 general elections.

The PDP National Chairman said this in reaction to calls for his resignation over the outcome of the 2015 elections in which the party lost the presidential as well as its majority control of National Assembly and state gubernatorial seats to the opposition All Progressive Congress for the first time in 16 years.

In a statement on Saturday, reports that Mu’azu faulted the call for his resignation and those of the National Working Committee arguing that the party should stop its penchant to use and dump its officials.

“The developing culture of using and dumping has reached fratricidal proportions in the PDP and it must end. You cannot be changing Chairmen and NWC every year and still have cohesion which is a vital ingredient of winning. A good example occurred when we changed five Senate Presidents in eight years and produced calamity in the process, but for eight years we have had one senate president and produced harmony between the presidency and parliament.

It is also time to end the spate of in-fighting and blame games currently dominating the political discourse among our membership and the leadership. It will do no one any good. The present leadership has until next year to run their course. The party will then decide how to deal with the zoning of the next leadership and strategies for winning the 2019 elections.”

Mu’azu said how to reinvent itself should be the preoccupation of the party now instead of indulging in blame game.

“The elixir the Peoples Democratic Party needs to reinvent itself and retake power in 2019 instead of wasting time and energy mudslinging and blame gaming over the party’s failed bid to win a fourth consecutive presidential election victory.”

According to him, stories spreading like wild fire in the social media about schisms in the PDP can only energise the incoming administration of the APC and its desire to kill the PDP.

“But we can shock them with our usual resilience and ability to turn the tables particularly as they are already developing a tottering ineptitude in their transition progression to power.

Our game plan is to provide a virile opposition to the new government which we have already graciously given a lifeline by conceding defeat and avoiding a calamitous battle in the courts.

The international community have noted this great act of statesmanship on our part and we shall continue in this mode to show our commitment towards entrenching democracy in our country. It is therefore time for our great party to reinvent ourselves, show great maturity and map out a strategy that will return us to power in 2019.

Despite losing our dominance in the National Assembly, our party has the largest number of experienced legislators in both chambers and will surely be calling the shots there. We will however help to reduce the imminent issue of learning process occasioned by the horde of inexperienced APC members in both houses because of national interest.

Great lessons to be learned from the outcome of the 2015 Elections are many and I have already mentioned this in earlier interactions with the media. Lessons of candidate imposition, deepening of internal democracy in our party and other obvious lessons we need to learn for future guidance. It is so important for us to learn from what has happened. We must note that when the going gets tough, only the tough like the PDP can get going”, said Muazu.

He added that defection to the APC by members of the PDP was the most stupid thing going on within our party at the moment.

“Personally it does not worry me but I shudder at the wedge placed by the new ruling party banning the incoming troupes. It shows signs of how they will run the country from May 29 2015. It shows how they will not regard non APC Nigerians as part of their responsibility which will be a shame.”

PoliticsWhy Jonathan Lost To Buhari – Sanusi by faroukfahima(op): 2:41am On Apr 06, 2015
Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Emir of Kano, Lamido Sanusi, says President Goodluck Jonathan lost because of the mood of voters which was determined by the economic conditions and level of poverty across the country.

Sanusi, who is now known as Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II, said this during an interview with our correspondent on Saturday.

He said the voting showed that areas which had a high rate of poverty felt neglected by the Peoples Democratic Party-led Federal Government over the years.

Sanusi said the presidential poll results showed that the figures of the PDP in presidential elections from 1999 had continued to dwindle significantly.

The monarch said the PDP got fewer votes in 2007, less in 2011 and then fewer votes in 2015 causing the ruling party to finally lose to the opposition party, the All Progressives Congress.

He said, “I think in 2011, it was very clear that Jonathan had lost many states in the North that had previously been won by former President Olusegun Obasanjo. And it was clear that there was a general sense by people of the Federal Government not investing in the areas where there is a high level of poverty.

“I believe more and more of those states began to feel that sense of not feeling the federal presence and not feeling the impact of democracy in their pockets and I think it is extremely important for people to connect with the government and when you have such conditions after 16 years of democracy, it was natural that people would want to have a change and I think this is basically what has happened.

“I don’t think it is something about an individual, I think it is something that has been going on for a number of years and you could see the states won by the PDP in 1999 and what they won in 2003, what they won in 2007, 2011 and you would begin to see the changes in the way Nigerians were responding so it was a matter of time.”

Sanusi, however, commended Jonathan, the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari; and the Independent National Electoral Commission for the conduct and atmosphere of the election.

He said change of leadership was good for democracy as it encouraged healthy competition. He said it was the trend in democracies across the world.

“I think it is good for the country that you have different parties winning and if the APC performs, they get another term and if they don’t, they get voted out after four years and it is extremely important that this happens so let us not see it in terms of somebody losing,” he said.

Sanusi also urged Buhari not to focus solely on corruption but on other areas that required urgent government attention such as education, decaying infrastructure, diversifying the economy and fixing power.

Bill Gates is once again the richest person on the planet, a title he’s held for 16 of the past 21 years. His fortune grew $3.2 billion since last year to $79.2 billion, despite a gift of $1.5 billion in Microsoft MSFT -0.47% shares to The Bill &Melinda Gates Foundation in November 2014.

Carlos Slim Helu of Mexico comes in again at No. 2 while revered American investor Warren Buffett took back the No. 3 spot from Spain’s Amancio Ortega (now No. 4); not even the largest IPO in history was enough to beat the Oracle of Omaha this year. Buffett was the list’s biggest gainer, up $14.5 billion to $72.7 billion, thanks to Berkshire Hathaway’s rising share price.

Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg moves up 5 spots to number 16, his first time ranked among the world’s 20 richest. Ma and three other Chinese are among the biggest gainers and appear among the 50 richest on the list. Zuckerberg is also the leader in a youth revolution that has minted 46 billionaires under the age of 40.

The youngest billionaire on the planet is Evan Spiegel, 24, co-founder of photo- messaging app Snapchat. California, driven by Silicon Valley tech companies, has spawned 23 new billionaires, including cofounders of car-hailing service Uber cofounders Travis Kalanick and Garrett Camp, and their first employee Ryan Graves. Elizabeth Holmes, who runs blood-testing firm Theranos, debuts on the global list as the youngest self-made woman at age 31. The state now has 131 individuals with 10-figure net worths, more than any other country besides China and the U.S.

The year’s biggest loser in dollar terms is Aliko Dangote of Nigeria, whose fortune dropped to $14.7 billion from $25 billion last year, propelled downward by a weaker Nigerian currency and shrinking demand for cement, his largest asset. He still retains the title of Africa’s richest man. The country that was lost the most ground by far was Russia, which now has 88 billionaires down from 111, less than not just the U.S. and China but now also Germany and India.

One hundred thirty-eight people from the 2014 list dropped out of the ranks altogether including fashion designer Michael Kors, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, Zulily’s Mark Vadon and many Russians. Guatemala has a billionaire for the first time, and Iceland returns to the ranks after a five-year absence, the result of a comeback by Thor Bjorgolfsson, who’s now the only billionaire in Iceland’s history.

Mike Adenuga, Folorunsho Alakija, Femi Otedola and Abdulsamad Rabiu also made the list.
