An excellent opportunity for an unemployed youth Nairalander.

I don't know anything easier than changing a door lock.
Bros you are right changing lock is very easy and a valid candidate for DIY. But what will you do when you are not on ground. I guess I can follow Maverick's suggestion and do this last when everybody don commot for my site

OK. Best way to do it... if it is not broken don't fix.

Hajji M.
Na so Hajji. So any suggestions on market rate for the cylinders (good ones) and also the labour rate for installation?
The guy that gave me installation rate of N700 per door also gave me the price of the cylinder. He quoted 1K for ordinary cylinder and 2.5K for original England. I however want second opinion because N2.5K in fifteen places na big money in this Buhari era. angry grin grin angry

Are you replacing the Chinese locks that came with it? I heard the bundled locks are less to be desired and may worth changing.

Hajji M.
I am not replacing everything bros. I have been told 15 of the locks are faulty but the rest are okay so I am changing the 15. If any of the remaining have issue later, I will change them too.
PropertiesRe: General Topic Thread-To Discuss Anything And Everything in Building Construction by fash78(m): 7:56pm On Aug 09, 2016
Folks I need the price of lock cylinders for 3ft China doors. I need about 15 pcs. Also kindly advice how much is to install the door lock. I have about 65 Doors that I need the lock with door handles installed. I have got a qoute of N700 per installation but with the quantity of the doors I seek a better bargain. Thanks.

Thanks Allcopacetic, of course now I do know a reliable distributor now.. truly I did not know you deal in electrical cables too.
Now I know where to turn... I actually spoke with and communicate with Taiwo Ikusemoran. And unfortunately when I told them my
quantity, I did not get any more discounts. I shall be in touch with you for better prices and pickup original at their factory.

So far my quantity is below:

1.5mm = 25
2.5mm = 15
4mm = 7
6mm = 3
10mm = 5
Coaxial Cable (for TV) = 10 (But I can pickup this anywhere with low price, does not have to be Coleman or Nigerchin)

Thanks...

Hajji M.
Bros Allcopacetic sells cables o. I bought all my cables from him at a reasonable price. At least from the little I know about him he no fit sell fake and if there is any issue related to the cable later I know where to run to for complaints

I have seen it done either way... but personally, I will have the POP and screeding done same time before the tiling to minimize the dirt and stain on the tiles. Even though the tiles can be cleaned later spic and span.

Hajji M.
That is what I wanted to do but the tiler said it is easier to clean a dirty tile than get a screeded wall soil with sand and cement while tiling

Guys any advice? I am about to do some internal wall screeding. The floor tiles for the rooms where the wall screeding to be done is not yet laid. The tiler is suggesting completing the floor tiles before the wall screeding is done. Can you guys share your experience with tiling and screeding? In what order should this be done?

They should join us in Properties Forum discussions for better understanding... I am out of this thread, you should too.

Hajji please let's move this topic to property section and let's have professionals in the house give us their opinion. I believe a lot of people can benefit from this topic including myself.

But dude I will advice you consult a plumber. Trust me my brother it is not worth saving a few dollars now only to spend thousands later. Get it right once and save your self the headache of draining your septic tank every month for not connecting it to your sock away.

Peace
Trust me bro I am using a plumber to do this work. Whether he knows what he is doing is another question. He is the one asking me whether I would prefer him to connect the septic tank and soakaway together to drain excess water from the septic tank to soakaway or if I prefer that both tank not to be connected. When I asked him what is the best practise he said he prefers the two not to be connected because of odours slippage into the house. When he said that I got worried.

This kind of thing need to be standardized to help the client. I should not be the one making decision like this there should be a standard for how septic tank and soakaway should operate.

Now you have got me worried about constant filling up of the septic tank if it is not connected to soakaway to drain the water and my plumber is saying it is possible there could be slippage of odour into the house if they are connected

What man go do now huh? huh tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue tongue

I hope this doesn't get lost in the myriad of responses and the OP sees this.

What is classically done in our climes is to have one hole partitioned into 2 parts which are;

1) SEPTIC TANK: This is where toilet waste i.e faeces are flushed into. Bacteria (which is why it is called SEPTIC) decompose it into SLUDGE which settles and WATER which floats. This tank is usually made with concrete ate the bottom to prevent the sludge from getting into surrounding soil. At the top of this tank is a connection through a hole, pipe or whatever to the septic tank that allows water to drain into the soakaway pit if the water above the sludge becomes excessive. NEVER DIRECT WATER FROM SINKS OR BATHROOMS OR KITCHENS HERE BECAUSE THEY CONTAIN SOAP AND OTHER CHEMICALS THAT WILL INHIBIT THE BACTERIA AND THE SEPTIC TANK FILLS UP QUICKLY LEAVING YOU LITERALLY WITH BIG UNDECOMPOSED SHIT.

2) SOAKAWAY PIT: Which is what we call the whole set up at times. It is normally larger and the floor is left bare to allow water literally SOAK AWAY into the ground. Water from sinks, bathrooms, kitchen sinks etc should all come here, including the excess run off from the septic tank( remember from above). SIMILARLY TOILET WASTE SHOULD NOT BE DIRECTED HERE FOR THE SAME REASON IN CAPITAL LETTERS ABOVE.

I hope I have clarified and and not confused you more.

You're welcome.
Thanks for the explanation. My question is aboit the connecting pipe from septic tank to.the soak away, won't there be odour sipping into the kitchen through the waste water drain lines because septic tank is connected to the soakaway?

I am.presently digging my septic and soakaway and I have asked the plumber to keep the two tanks not connected because of the above reason, am I being unnecessarily afraid? Please advise. I still have time to tell him to connect them together if I can get a solid proof that it won't cause me grief of odours sipping into my kitchen down the road.
