Religion / Re: What's This About Firstfruits? by fatherab1: 1:36pm On Feb 24, 2009
My dear poster,
From your inputs on this thread, i realized you are very sincere.
My advice for you is not to mind all those who have no important thing to say to you but just want to excercise their freedom of speech rights.

Now to begin with, Firstfruits has so many scriptural backings. One straight-foward verse is  Ezekiel 44:30 ''And the first of all the firstfruits of all things, and every oblation of all, of every sort of your oblations, shall be the priest's: ye shall also give unto the priest the first of your dough, that he may cause the blessing to rest in thine house''.
Now the issue is firstfruit is a covenant practice. Being purely a covenant affair makes it an individual decision. It is a practice of those who wish to tread great waters in all aspect of life.

My first job was a N40k monthly stuff. I gave the firstfruit (everything) but i spread it over some months. Do you know that the time i paid the last coin, I got a N120k job in the same Lagos. That is how i have been moving upward at an unusual speed since then. Gen 50:5 ''Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice.''

Besides all these, there is an inner fulfilment when men of God who are making great impact enjoy your money, when they eat of your sweat. Especially those of them who have little or no supports. The same quality and quantity of reward a person gets for doing God's work is the same you will get in making it possible for him to do that work.

Court of Appeal declares Mimiko Ondo governor
By Hamed Shobiye
Published: Monday, 23 Feb 2009
BREAKING NEWS: The Court of Appeal in Benin has declared the governorship candidate of the Labour Party in Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko, as the winner of the April 2007 gubernatorial election in the state.

In a unanimous decision by a panel of five justices led by the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Umaru Abdullahi, the court upheld the decision of the Ondo State Election Petitions Tribunal, that had on July 25, 2008 declared Mimiko as the winner of the election. The appeal court said Mimiko, a medical doctor, won in 12 out of the 18 local governments of the state.

By this decision, the sitting governor, Dr. Olusegun Agagu, has been removed from office. The removal of Agagu, who is of the Peoples Democratic Party, has reduced the ruling party‘s control of states in Nigeria to 25, with Ekiti State, where the appeal court on February 17, 2009 ordered for a rerun governorship election in 90 days, still hanging in the balance.

Mimiko‘s ascension to office follows an acrimonious battle since 2007 between him and Agagu. Both were formerly of the PDP, before Mimiko‘s bid to clinch the governorship ticket in 2007 was truncated by ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo.

Mimiko is a former minister of Housing and Urban Development and has been a Secretary to the State Government in Ondo State.

The Labour Party was formed along ideologies espoused by the Nigeria Labour Congress, as the only pro-workers‘ political party in Nigeria. It was the initial platform on which the former NLC President, Mr. Adams Oshiomhole, sought to run for governor of Edo State in 2007. However, due to political exigencies, Oshiomhole later dumped the LP and moved to the Action Congress.

He was eventually declared winner of the April 2007 governorship election by the appeal court on November 11, 2008. The LP has thus joined other opposition parties which control states in Nigeria such as the Action Congress, All Nigeria Peoples Party, the Progressive Peoples Alliance and All Progressive Grand Alliance.

Former governor of Anambra State, Dr. Chris Ngige, was the first governor to be removed through the judicial process in the Fourth Republic. After his removal in March 2006 by the appeal court, other governors similarly ousted include Senator Liyel Imoke (Cross River); Ibrahim Idris (Kogi); Sir Celestine Omehia (Rivers); Mr. Andy Uba (Anambra); Murtala Nyako (Adamawa); Mr. Segun Oni (Ekiti); Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor (Edo).

However, Imoke, Nyako and Idris returned to office after winning the rerun elections in their states, as ordered by the appeal court. Omehia was removed by the Supreme Court and replaced with Mr. Chibuike Amaechi, whom the apex court said was wrongly substituted as the PDP’s governorship candidate.

There are reports of wild jubilation on the streets of the Ondo State capital, Akure, while officials of Agagu’s ousted administration have been moving their property out of official quarters since Sunday,

Mimiko stood on the platform of Labour Party. He was sponsored by strongmen like Bola Tinubu. The AC in Ondo failed to give Mimiko the platform so the National AC adopted the ondo LP.

Buffett: 'Heaven help us' if bailout fails
Fri Sep 26, 5:46 AM ET

As the proposed $700 billion bailout plan met resistance Wednesday on Capitol Hill, billionaire investor Warren Buffett sounded the alarm on the peril of a failed rescue attempt of the financial markets.

“We are looking over a precipice in terms of the economic condition of the country for the next few years,” Buffett said during an interview on the Fox Business Channel. “If Congress doesn't help us on this, heaven help us.”

Congress will likely scale back the massive bailout plan.

Lawmakers have expressed concerns about oversight, as well as over the rushed nature of the bill. Party leaders and the president have shown support for the bailout since it was crafted over the weekend, but an increasing number of both Republican and Democratic members are expressing doubts over the plan.

President Bush is scheduled to speak to the nation on the economy tonight, and John McCain announced that he is suspending his campaign and hoping to postpone Friday night’s debate, to focus on the economy.

But no matter what Bush or the presidential candidates do, Buffett said the fate of the financial system is in the hands of Congress.

“The only thing that counts in the economic world today is the U.S. Congress,” Buffett said. “They hold the fate of the U.S. economy for the next few years in their hands. And I think they'll do the right thing. I have great confidence — I mean, when they recognize what the problem is, they will do the right thing. They won't do the perfect thing. Nobody can do the perfect thing.

“Later on we'll let the historians decide who to blame. I could go around saying I told you so on this or that. But it doesn't make a difference.”

Third Mainland Bridge to be shut for two months
By Rasheed Bisiriyu and Olalekan Adetayo of PUNCH NEWSPAPER
Published: Wednesday, 16 Jul 2008

Lagos motorists and commuters will, from Friday, experience major traffic difficulties on the Third Mainland Bridge and around Lagos metropolis as the Federal Government shuts a part of the bridge by midnight on Thursday (tomorrow) to allow for unimpeded repair work.

The failed portion of Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos

The closure of the 11.8- kilometre bridge is expected to last till September 6.

During the period, traffic from the Oworonshoki end of the bridge will be diverted at the Adekunle Junction to the out-bound lanes, which would be closed between 5am and 12 noon daily.

This means that motorists leaving the Lagos Island will have to find alternative routes during that period.

However, as from 1pm daily, the bridge will be re-opened to Oworonshoki-bound traffic. But it will be closed to traffic from Oworonshoki which will be diverted to Herbert Macaulay Road/Ebute Meta.

It was learnt that on Saturday, the bridge, from Adekunle end to Adeniji Adele end, will be practically demolished for reconstruction.

The Federal Controller of Works for Lagos, Mr. Tunde Ekunsumi, who spoke with our correspondents on Tuesday, confirmed that the bridge would be closed from the Adeniji-Adele end.

“There would be adequate signs, adequate light, we have instructed the contractor that throughout the night, 6pm to 6am, everyday, there should be light on this bridge,” he said.

He said that traffic officers from the Federal Road Safety Commission, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the traffic police would be drafted to ensure orderly vehicular movement.

The controller urged motorists going in and out of Lagos Island to seek alternative routes to the bridge in order to avoid the expected chaotic traffic situation.

He said that those coming from Ikeja and Ojota, for instance, could make use of the Ikorodu/Western Avenue (now Funsho Williams Avenue) Road or Apapa-Oworoshoki Road.

In the last two years, construction experts had raised the alarm that the bridge had developed structural problems.

Some of the faults observed by the experts include uneven pavement surface and the shifted positions of the pillars on which the bridge rests.

Rehabilitation work began a few weeks ago on the failed sections of the 18-year old bridge following reports of extensive vibration.

Lagosians had expressed fears that the bridge could collapse, which prompted government to invite experts to investigate the vibrations.

They reported that the expansion joints between piers axis 13 and 14 had suffered considerable damage due to lack of maintenance, which also affected the expansion joints between axis 19 and 20.

Although the government said it had made adequate arrangements for effective traffic control during the period of repair, it urged those going in and out of Lagos Island to use alternative routes.

The Minister of Transportation, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, last month led a group of government officials to inspect work on the bridge after a similar visit by the Senate Committee on Works.

At the inspection, she had said, ”We are putting a gangway to enable vehicles to transit to the other carriageway and that will go until we get to the end of the bridge before you transit back into the Lagos-bound lanes.”

The minister, who sought the understanding of road users, also solicited the cooperation of the Lagos State Government during a meeting with the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, on the project.

The Lagos Sector Commander, FRSC, Mr. Kayode Olagunju, said in a telephone interview with our correspondent that road marshals had been mobilised for traffic control during the period of repair.

He said, “We are doing our best to minimise the pain. We are also aware that there could be a spill-over effect on other auxiliary roads.”

Olagunju, who confirmed that FRSC had been part of stakeholders‘ meetings that held in Lagos on the issue, added that the commission would review its strategies one week after the closure.

When contacted on the telephone on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Police Command, Mr. Frank Mba, said the command was aware of the development.

Mba, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said although the command was not envisaging any problem, he added that traffic policemen would be stationed at strategic locations so that members of the public could be rightly guided.

He said, ”The exercise is for the common good of all of us. The government is desirous of the safety of lives on the bridge, hence the repair works. Since it is not a natural disaster, we do not expect any problem.

”We are expecting that the state government will announce alternative routes for road users. In that case, we shall collaborate with other relevant government agencies to ensure that Lagosians are guided.”

The contract for the repair was awarded late 2007 at the cost of N745m for a period of five months.

The restoration project is coming about four years after the Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Society of Engineers had alerted that the bridge was vibrating and this prompted a team of foreign engineers to investigate it for a month.

Constructed in 1990 by Julius Berger Plc, the bridge, which is considered the longest in Africa, was inaugurated by the President Ibrahim Babangida administration.

Every bank has what is called CORPORATE CULTURE. This is simply the philosophy behind their operations. The corporate culture of BankPHB is distinctively superb. Check out their quality products! Any idea they bring out, other sluggish banks copy. The latest being the UK education loan. As soon as PHB laaaunched it, allllllllll others woke up to float thiers.

On a serious note, each bank has its own strenghts and weaknesses. Bank PHB is very strong in brand/ideas but GTB is very strong in customer care, Skye can easily say YES to people like us who seek for facilities to fund our projects. Skye says yes when a mere security man in ZENITH embarases you. If dont deal with banks beyond withdrawals/deposits, you wont understand me.
