Ibenegbu vows to glamourise Eagles

Ikechukwu Ibenegbu has promised that he will not only break into the Super Eagles final 23 to next month's Africa Cup of Nations, but will 'bring glamour' to the team's much-maligned midfield.

"I believe I am one of the best creative midfielders in the League and I am sure I will make the team to the Nations Cup because I will bring glamour and creativity to the midfield that people have been talking about," he told KickOffNigeria.com.

Ibenegbu and Bayelsa United goalkeeper Bassey Akpan were late and somewhat surprise home-based inclusions into the list of 32 released by Nigeria coach Shuaibu Amodu this week after pressure from the NFF, but the creative midfielder says the call-up came as no surprise.

"It was not a surprise to me. When I heard that they were going to invite home-based players, I knew my name would be there because I believe I am one of the best players in the League."

Amodu said on Wednesday that time was too short for any of the local players would make the final squad, but Ibenegbu says he is confident of gate-crashing the party.

"I believe in myself and I know that I am not going there to be a training material, but to make the team."

Manchester City defender Kolo Toure hopes to join Barcelona - report

Kolo Toure has instructed his agents to offer his services to Barcelona, according to Cadena Ser.

Following several seasons in London with Arsenal, the defender jumped ship with team-mate Emmanuel Adebayor this past summer; making a big money move to Eastlands and Manchester City.

Despite City's big spending, things haven't quite gone as planned for boss Mark Hughes so far this season and Toure is said to already be looking for a way out of the club.

Kolo's brother, Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure, has constantly expressed his desire to play in the same team as his older sibling and the feeling seems like it's mutual.

Having failed to entice Yaya to Arsenal or City, Kolo is apparently ready to make the move to Spain as soon as the winter transfer window arrives.

Atletico de Madrid striker Sergio Aguero: I'd fit into Chelsea like a hand in a glove

Atletico de Madrid striker Sergio Aguero has claimed that he would fit into Chelsea very well, consequently opening the door for a move to west London.

The Argentine also revealed that he regularly watches the Premier League, and rated Didier Drogba as the best in England, with former team-mate Fernando Torres coming in a close second.

"Chelsea are interested in me because they think I can play an important role for the team," Aguero told The Sun.

"And I think I fit with their style of play.

"Of course I watch the Premier League on TV and I think it is the best league in the world, along with the Spanish league."

Amodu can say whatever he likes. . .no big deal but he himself clearly knows that the onus is on him to perform - by that I mean getting to the final of the Nations Cup. yeah I remember someone telling me that they will need babalawos for that.  grin

Anything short of that and he will have someone else reaping the fruits of his labor.

Sagamite:
No, I never said that, I gave 3 possible scenarios to cover most likely basis.
Sometimes I really wonder. . .if you are saying the journalist did not cook this up then that means he actually made that statement. . .
Now how do you know for a fact that the 3 scenarios you listed were his REAL reasons.
Blimey, the man already gave you one - The time is NOT enough. Stop postulating.

Sagamite:
I was expecting you to back that up.
I was stunned by at your initial reply thus I couldn't respond adequately. If those are the best we have, then why disturb ourselves with the Nations Cup at all? Except, well, suddenly they find the passion and will to do the unthinkable.

Sagamite:
As long as you know they have not failed. That is fine.
No. You said as long as they do not fail miserably. . .and I said, why should they when they have a good coach in Amodu? geddit?

Sagamite:
You said it was different by alluding to club being somehow easier.
Bottom line is this. They are two different ball games.

Sagamite:
My point is, any difference would only show club management is easier as:
1) If your team is weak in one area, you just by a better player, whilst in national football, you use what you have. Otherwise Finland, Saudi Arabia, Luxemburg and Norway would be the best footballing nations.

2) You have a large squad you can select from for each game, national, you select your 23 and stick with it.

3) You have a chance to practice different approaches every week until you get it right, nationa, you see them every 2 months and prepare under 3 days.

If you give him whatever concursion your babalowo is giving you, so he can use it on CIV, Cameroun etc, then he just might win irrespective of the quality of his tools.

Damn, I guarantee you he would even win the WC with the concursion with Stationary Stores. I would expect him to.
Greece won the Euros. How manage? I bet they also visited and took concursions from my babalawo? What was their ranking before then?
Again, Amodu's excuse was not about the quality of his players but the time allocated to him. Why you like to move away from issues I don't know.
It's in Amodu interest to get to the Final of the Nations Cup and as well all know, anything can happen in a final.
Only that way can he make a name for himself. I guarantee you that he will have a job for LIFE with the NFF.
Sports › Re: Don't Expect Too Much In Angola- Amodu by FBS(op): 1:17pm On Dec 17, 2009
Sagamite:
Are you confirming you know he said it or you are relying on a Naija journalists word?
I wonder why we are discussing this then since according to you, the Naija journalist cooked this all up.

Sagamite:
Capital Yes!!!
hmmmm. . .I see.

Sagamite:
2 years minimum on a reasonable level as long as they are not failing miserably.
And why would they fail miserably? Heck they have a good coach in Amodu.

Sagamite:
If you have ever been opportune to work on change management, you would realise the most difficult challenge is not to communicate or bring change. It is to instil it into the system and make sure it is sustainable not some transient occurence.

Do you think the never-say-die approach of Man U was there in the first 10 years of Ferguson? Do you know how long it took him to ferment that attitude? Do you know how much harder it is to bring and sustain that into a national team (not a club one) that meets every 2 and the half months or so?
I remember clearly telling you that coaching a National team is a different ball game to which you said no. Now I wonder why you are using a club to express your point?  undecided
But again, I repeat, you don't need forever to implement hunger, passion and will in football. If the ability to do so is not there, it is NOT there. No two ways about it.

Sagamite:
I am not saying Amodu is a genius, world class or will build a fantastic team. I am saying he has not yet failed (rather he has performed well) and he has not yet demonstrated, from his past and recent WCQ, that he would fail in building a team (except one factors in that he is black, the inferior race).
No one here has said Amodu was/is a genius. That will be suicidal. grin
And please, anytime you reply to my posts, forget about skin color. I personally don't care about that.
True he has not failed and frankly like I've always said, let him take them boys to the Nations Cup. I have no problem with that.
Where we disagree is to what stage. A semi-final is nothing exceptional and I don't care to know if we are the 200th best team in the world. A place in the final is what we all expect.
What is he saying now is that he cannot handle that task and I wonder. . .
