panafrican: How about Soro, Ouattara, Wattao, Cherif Ousmane, Tuo Fozie, Kone Zacharia and so on ? How about the killing in Duekoue' perpatrated by muslims backing the same ouattara , against christians and all Gbagbo supporters? The lies you displayed are nullified by the facts and as time goes by, the blanket of all these lies is tearing up. BTW , I'm not going to discuss by someone who slaughetered teenage girls and beheaded women and elderly on behalf a thug like ouattara. There is no doubt Both sides committed atrocities, but if Gbabgo have accepted defeat at the polls, a lot of lives would have been saved. He refused to step down and wanted to cling to power by all means. Do you remember this phrase by the LMP: "on gagne ou on gangne" Don't forget the machinaries he put in place to suppress the opposition - escardron de la mort ( death squad) headed by Alselm aka Seka-Seka. The dreaded republican guard strongman Dogbo Ble Bruno who massacre a lot of defenceless innocent civilians. Ble Goude with his " article 125" a lot of people were burnt alive, he also encourage the "jeune patriots" to attack UN personal at will. The list of attrocities the Gbogbo government committed is endless, if I should go on, it will take a while thread. But thank God they are being apprehended one after the other. Justice will be served. I have this last word for Ble Goude- Dieu merci car les victimes pourrons se reposer une fois que tu sera condamné. Petit rappel: Here is a testimonies among thousands of atrocities Ble Goude committed for those who can read and understand french. |

It seems that that the Muslim world is divided into two groups, those that are not very good at fighting, the majority, and those who live to fight and do terrorism. The strange thing is that for one reason or another, I don't hear too many complaints from the quiet majority, about the terrorists. Personally, I think that terrorists should be shot on sight. There are too many of them to treat them like criminals, or legitimate soldiers. They kill anyone who disagrees with them Why do they deserve civilized justice. We are in a time of danger, and need to modify our tactics. And in the mean time, we need to do everything that we can to restrict their travel. In time of war, all of this business about profiling being not allowed is really stupid. Those who complicate the rules of engagement make us less safe. |
ALGIERS (Reuters) - Islamist militants attacked a gas field in Algeria on Wednesday, claiming to have kidnapped up to 41 foreigners including seven Americans in a dawn raid in retaliation for France's intervention in Mali, according to regional media reports. The raiders were also reported to have killed three people, including a Briton and a French national. An al Qaeda affiliated group said the raid had been carried out because of Algeria's decision to allow France to use its air space for attacks against Islamists in Mali, where French forces have been in action against al Qaeda-linked militants since last week. The attack in southern Algeria also raised fears that the French action in Mali could prompt further Islamist revenge attacks on Western targets in Africa, where al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) operates across borders in the Sahara desert, and in Europe. AQIM said it had carried out Wednesday's raid on the In Amenas gas facility in Algeria, Mauritania's ANI news agency reported. The Algerian interior ministry said: "A terrorist group, heavily armed and using three vehicles, launched an attack this Wednesday at 5 a.m. against a Sonatrach base in Tigantourine, near In Amenas, about 100 km (60 miles) from the Algerian and Libyan border." The gas field is operated by a joint venture including BP, Norwegian oil firm Statoil and Algerian state company Sonatrach. ARMED MEN BP said armed men were still occupying facilities at the gas field. "The site was attacked and occupied by a group of unidentified armed people at about 0500 UK time. Contact with the site is extremely difficult, but we understand that armed individuals are still occupying the In Amenas operations site," it said. Algeria's official APS news agency said a Briton and an Algerian security guard had been killed and seven people were injured. A French national was also killed in the attack, a local source said. Also among those reported kidnapped by various sources were five Japanese nationals working for the Japanese engineering firm JGC Corp, a French national, an Irishman, a Norwegian and a number of Britons. A member of an Islamist group styling itself the "Blood Battalion" was quoted by Mauritanian media as saying that five of the hostages were being held at the gas facility and 36 were in a housing area. APS said the Islamist raiders had freed Algerians working at the gas facility. "The operation was in response to the blatant interference by Algeria and the opening of its air space to French aircraft to bomb northern Mali," the Islamist spokesman told Mauritania's ANI news agency. ANI, which has regular direct contact with Islamists, said that fighters under the command of Mokhtar Belmokhtar were holding the foreigners. Belmokhtar for years commanded al Qaeda fighters in the Sahara before setting up his own armed Islamist group late last year after an apparent fallout with other militant leaders. The Algerian army was in the area of the gas facility, according to French and Algerian sources. SECURITY IMPLICATIONS The attack was the first time in years that Islamist militants are known to have launched an attack on an Algerian energy facility. The attack could have implications for security across the whole of Algeria's energy sector, which supplies about a quarter of Europe's natural gas imports and exports millions of barrels of crude oil each year. Such an attack would require a large and heavily-armed insurgent force with a degree of freedom to move around -- all elements that al Qaeda has not previously had. However, the conflict in neighboring Libya in 2011 changed the balance of force. Security experts say al Qaeda was able to obtain arms, including heavy weapons, from the looted arsenals of former leader Muammar Gaddafi. Statoil, a minority shareholder in the gas venture, said it had 17 employees at the plant and four of them had been evacuated. The company declined to comment on the other 13. The five Japanese work for the engineering firm JGC Corporation, Jiji news agency reported, quoting company officials. JGC has a deal with Sonatrach-BP-Statoil Association for work in gas production at In Amenas. A reporter for Japan's NHK television managed to call a JGC worker in Algeria. The worker said he got a phone call from a colleague at the gas field. "It was around 6 a.m. this morning. He said that he had been hearing gunshots for about 20 minutes. I wasn't able to get through to him since." French troops launched their first ground operation against Islamist rebels in Mali on Wednesday in an action to dislodge from a strategic town al Qaeda-linked fighters who have resisted six days of air strikes. |

Bayern confirm Guardiola coup Bayern Munich have announced that former Barcelona boss Pep Guardiola will take charge of the German club in the summer. Guardiola had been linked with a number of European football's most prestigious posts but he has ended the prolonged speculation over his future by deciding to replace current coach Jupp Heynckes in the summer. He has agreed a contract until 2016 at Germany's most famous club, winners of the German title 22 times and the European Cup on four occasions. Guardiola stepped down as Barca coach last summer after steering the Catalan club to 14 trophies in only four seasons and has spent the intervening time in New York on sabbatical. Manchester City and Chelsea were among the clubs strongly linked with Guardiola, and on Wednesday, in a video message for the FA's 150th anniversary celebrations, he said of England: "I hope in the future I could be able to train there." www. A loyalist of the presidency explained to the Nigerian Tribune that all the three northern zones had key governmental and party positions namely: North-East, party chairman; North-Central, Senate presidency and BoT Secretary; North-West, vice-president and Speaker, House of Representatives. |
BoT chair splits PDP • Presidency backs S/East • OBJ group wants Ali • Atiku considers options THE mother of all crises is now looming in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), barely 24 hours to the election of the chairman of its Board of Trustees (BoT), slated for Abuja. A reliable source close to the Board revealed to Nigerian Tribune in Abuja on Sunday that the crisis which would either make or mar the party ahead of the 2015 general election is centered on the choice of who becomes the new chairman of the BoT, vacated some months ago by former President Olusegun Obasanjo out of the over 20 aspirants, including non-members of the Board who had indicated their interest to vie for the vacant seat. Among the aspirants who had already indicated their interest for the position are Senator Amadu Ali, a former national chairman of the party, from the North-Central, the same zone that produced the new secretary of the Board, Senator Jibrin Walid; Senator Bode Olajumoke, South-West; Alhaji Shuaib Oyedokun, a one time Deputy National Chairman of the party from the South-West; Chief Harry Akande, a new entrant from the South-West and non-member of the Board, Senator Ken Nnamani, a one-time President of the Senate, South-East; Chief Emmanuel Iwanyanwu, Publisher of the Champion Newspapers from the South-East; Chief Tony Anenih,a former chairman of the board from the South-East zone and a host of others. However, our source said that as part of a game plan to foist Senator Alli from the North-Central zone on the party as the chairman of the Board, there has been severe pressure from various quarters on the incumbent Secretary of the Board, Senator Walid, also from the North-Central, to resign his position to pave the way for Senator Ali, which he had reportedly refused. According to our source, “all is not well in the party,we thought we could use this golden opportunity of selecting a new BoT chairman to redeem the image of the party before Nigerians and the international community, but with the ways things are going now, I’m afraid if not promptly checked, it may be the thing that will end PDP. “Come to think of it, why are they be prevailing on the secretary of the Board to resign? To resign for who? This is not going to be possible, they have been having their way in the past, they will fail woefully this time around, the secretary should stay put while they shop for a new chairman from other zones among those who had already indicated their interest,” a member of the Board told the Nigerian Tribune in confidence in Abuja on Sunday. Meanwhile, it has been gathered that former President Obasanjo was initially in full support of the aspiration of Senator Ali to fill the vacant seat until recently that he reportedly told some of the aspirants who approached him for support that President Jonathan as the sitting president and the leader of the party would have the final say on who would occupy the position, since he would work directly with the person and not him (Obasanjo). The Nigerian Tribune further learnt that while all efforts were being made by the presidency to pacify the members of the Board to accept any proposal brought before the Board tomorrow, some aggrieved members across the six geopolitical zones were said to be spoiling for a total showdown with the leadership of the party in an attempt to ensure that the constitution of the party and its zoning arrangement are followed to the letter. “The battle field for a real fight to save the soul of the party is being shifted to the Aso Rock and the dateline is tomorrow January 8 all the surviving founding fathers of the party will be there and we will speak our minds, at the end the day, I think reasons will prevail on them and do the right thing, as the ruling political party we should lead by examples and not otherwise,”another member of the Board declared while speaking with Nigerian Tribune in confidence. However, despite all odds, findings also revealed that the trio of Chiefs Anenih (South-South), Iwanyanwu (South-East) and Oyedokun (South-West) still maintain the lead and that one of them might likely clinch the seat, should the Ali project for the position stop. While the South-East caucus of the party had already endorsed the candidature of Chief Iwanyanwu and the decision communicated to the leadership of the party, the South-West rose from an emergency zonal meeting in Abeokuta, Ogun State last week demanding that the post be given to the zone because of its marginalization and Chief Anenih is said to be enjoying the support of President Jonathan. Meanwhile, remembers of the Board have started arriving in Abuja ahead of the meeting and have been engaging in further consultations. Meanwhile, as the chairman, BoT of the PDP emerges tomorrow, three governors of the party are reported to be hinging their rumoured presidential ambitions on the outcome of the race. Weeklong investigation by the Nigerian Tribune revealed that the governors of Katsina, Kano and Jigawa may finally make up their minds on whether to run for the presidency or not, depending on which faction of the party emerges victorious at the BOT contest. The Tuesday race for the board is reported to have polarised the party among supporters of President Goodluck Jonathan and those of former President Obasanjo, with the Otta farmer said to be angling for Chief Ahmadu Ali. Insiders within the northern caucus of the party disclosed that the emergence of Alli may provide leverage for the three governors to eventually indicate their presidential interests which they have consistently denied in recent past. While Governors Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and Ibrahim Shema have not been mentioned directly in the 2015 race, it was learnt that the two men are potential contenders who are even more rooted in the Obasanjo caucus than Governor Lamido of Jigawa State. A PDP chieftain in Kaduna told the Nigerian Tribune in confidence that “both Shema and Kwankwaso are strong characters with better qualifications,” adding that “the two are also very close to Alli and former President Obasanjo. “When Alli was national Chairman, Governor Shema was the deputy national chairman of the party and Kwankwaso was the defence minister. Both men are interested in the presidency. Forget about Lamido who we see as just a bait to hide the real contenders against the president,” the source said. Further checks showed that anti-Jonathan forces see tomorrow‘s race as final battle for the last organ of the party, especially as the president and his caucus are seen to have taken charge of the party national executive committee, leaving only the BoT for grab. Presidency Backs S/East While the Obasanjo caucus is allegedly pushing for Ahmadu Ali tomorrow, reports indicated that the presidency has finally thrown its weight behind the South-East, after rejecting the South-South, South-West and North-Central zones. Nigerian Tribune was told that the decision of the presidency to support the South-East was due to three reasons, namely the alleged appointment of Chief Tony Anenih as the chairman of Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the fears of a North-Central candidate who is not loyal to the presidency. A loyalist of the presidency explained to the Nigerian Tribune that all the three northern zones had key governmental and party positions namely: North-East, party chairman; North-Central, Senate presidency and BoT Secretary; North-West, vice-president and Speaker, House of Representatives. “South-East and the South-West are the odd ones out. Here, the president needs the block votes of South-East as he cannot be sure of block vote from the South-West. The South-South votes are also very small compared to block votes from South-East. So, conceding the position to South-East is for a deal,” the official said. While the South-East caucus of the party was reported to have endorsed Chief Iwuanyanwu late last year, some close friends of the president were said to be pushing for the candidature of Senator Nnamani. It was learnt that the candidature of the two men had split the president‘s men down the line, with some supporting Iwuanyanwu and others supporting Nnamani. Another caucus from the zone was said to be proposing the former Vice-President Alex Ekwueme to break the division. Sambo camp denies rift with Jonathan While the scheming for the BOT seat hots up, some loyalists of Vice-President Namadi Sambo have described reports of a rift between the president and his deputy as a ploy by opponents to destabilise the president and his political team. In a chat with the Nigerian Tribune, the coordinator of Arewa New Initiative, Mallam Aminu Salihu, said the report of Kaduna visit of the former president, Chief Obasanjo, was being manipulated to divide the presidency, adding, however, that “both the president and the vice-president are aware of this agenda from forces within and outside the party.” “The vice-president is committed and absolutely loyal to his boss. What will he gain by working against a president who has made him one of the most engaged vice presidents in our history? The report is not true and nobody will buy the plot of schemers behind this report,” Salihiu said. Atiku Considers Options Meanwhile, loyalists of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar are reported to be brainstorming for the right option for their principal in the face of scheming and plotting for the presidential ticket of the PDP. Reports indicated that outcome of the sessions may soon be presented to the former vice-president in a Middle Eastern country in the next few days. A source within the group told the Nigerian Tribune that while his boss had indicated interest in contesting in 2015, “all issues are still on the table in the light of recent developments within the party.” It was gathered that the former vice-president had, of late, been relating with President Jonathan, though it was not known whether the relationship had anything to do with the second term ticket for the president. Nigerian Tribune was told that while Abubakar had increased his war chest since the 2011 polls, it was not clear if the Turakin Adamawa would still launch his presidential bid after the ongoing consultations with his caucus. Board decries underhand tactics of aspirant Barely 24 hours to the election of the new chairman of the BoT, the board has spoken against aspirants who, it said, had resulted to underhand tactics to gain advantage in the election scheduled to take place in the Presidential Villa. The secretary of the board, Senator Walid Jibrin, revealed in Abuja, on Sunday, that a particular unnamed aspirant had begun a campaign which suggested that he (Jibrin) would step down as secretary of the board to enhance his (aspirant) chances of emerging in the poll. Jibrin, who said preparation for the election was going on as planned, also denied insinuation that a candidate had already been anointed for the post, saying nothing could be further from the truth. “May I seize this opportunity to advise contestants not to make the campaign a do or die affair and never to apply the campaign of calumny in a desperate desire to become the BoT chairman,” he said. THE alleged disappearance of over N1 billion tax deductions paid by one of the multi-national oil companies, Chevron Nigeria Ltd, through an old generation bank to a new era bank that collects revenue for the government of Delta State has stirred misgivings between the two financial institutions. Delta State Board of Internal Revenue (DBIR) is striving to trace in which bank's possession the missing money is. It was learnt that Chevron mandated her bankers (the old era bank) to transfer the N1 billion to the state government's coffers through its collecting bank (the new generation institution), but the money which was allegedly paid since December 27, 2012, has not been credited. Officials of the board told The Guardian that the old bank was to pay the said amount into the state government's account managed by the new order financial house but as at last Friday, the revenue agency was yet to receive confirmation on the transaction. This engendered fears at the board as to who is in custody of the fund. The old bank, The Guardian learnt, is firmly insisting that the money has been successfully transferred into DBIR's account with the new one, which, however, insisted that it had not received the fund. "This is a big problem. How can the two banks be confused in this kind of situation. I am beginning to wonder that somebody somewhere is trying to play games with this issue but I know that they will not get out of this matter so easily because I trust our Chairman is going to go all out to ensure that the banks are sanctioned," a source at DBIR said DBIR's Executive Chairman, Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, yesterday confirmed the development, saying: "It is true that the over N1 billion paid by the multi-national oil company is missing between the two banks. "We have been trying to fish out which among the two banks that is holding to our funds. It is because of circumstances like this that warranted the board's several stakeholders meeting with our collecting banks warning them against this unethical banking practice. "I have said time without number that, what is being practised is not banking, but providing the breeding ground for monumental fraud and I am calling on the CBN and the other regulatory agencies to investigate this particular case and sanction the erring banks accordingly." The DBIR boss said he was convinced beyond doubt that the actions of the banks were deliberate in order to improve their cash position for their year end as required by new Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) regulations. He implored the CBN not to encourage such actions if it is really desirous of knowing the healthy and professional banks. He added: "I feel it is a breeding ground for fraud. If a prominent tax payer like Chevron can be so subjected to tracing, what will happen to millions of small tax payers whose payment patterns are not defined? When we are through with who is holding the funds, be rest assured that, the particular bank will be publicly sanctioned. I also expect CBN to take proactive action on this." I have wondered what tonic can be applied to the ailing Nigeria society being strangled to death by greed, criminality and government corruption and have come up with the same answer. Change the leadership and allow people with different mind-set and ready to see the world differently to take over. Nigerians must join hands together and retire the aged, corrupt but not tired Obasanjo, Chiroma, Babangida and Iwuanyanwu generation of politicians. They have messed up enough. They inherited a greatly endowed and vibrant nation and have reduced it to shadow of its real self, a den of thieves and kidnappers, where life is short, brutish and of very little value. A country where rules and laws mean nothing and there is no equal opportunity but nepotism, ethnicism, godfatherism and criminality. Their continued participation, relevance and appointment to positions of responsibilities in Nigeria, is an insult on the intelligence of Nigerians and demonstration of their arrogance and contempt with which the corrupt ruling class holds Nigerians. If not, why would president Jonathan, appoint a man who was indicted by the national assembly for misappropriating over 300 billion Naira, budgeted for ministry of works during Obasanjo administration to the chairmanship of Nigerian Ports Authority? |
