Adesiji77:It actually makes sence to liquidate a running TB, take in the loss and go for the higher rates.. but then as it is now; you cannot discount your TB unless the volume is up to N100M (like i was told by most banks) so it means you have to hold till maturity We need to have a vibrant secondary market for retail customers( Only the banks and Big PFAs, Fund Managers are enjoying the secondary market now) |
zamirikpo:For the records, I did not get the Stop rates... I actually bidded for 91 days at 12% now we know we are fully back in businesss Seems the govt is trying to attract the FPIs, at least to get the dollars which is very scarce! i expect these rates to remain high for the next 6 - 8 months |

kolaish:http://www.herald.ng/skye-bank-surge-record-highs-report-possible-loan-repayment/?utm_source=nnd&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=nnd Skye Bank had been in dismal form recently ultimately leading to the Central Bank of Nigeria replacing most of its top management on July 4 with regulators. The CBN stated that it worried about liquidity and non-performing loans as the rationale to coming to their decision. Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing is the Electric company whom reports say could be helping Skye Bank out of the mess they’ve found themselves recently. According to Thisday, Integrated Energy was able to negotiate a compensation fee of about $86m from the Nigerian Government after returning Yola Disco to them. The return was due to inability to operate the asset due to the insurgency occurring in that part of the nation. Bloomberg reports that Omotola Abimbola, a banking analyst at Afrinvest West Africa Ltd., said on the matter “Getting the refund and paying back the loan to Skye Bank means it can recover, Read more at http://www.herald.ng/skye-bank-surge-record-highs-report-possible-loan-repayment/#hFrhQv5Dr4IzJzRP.99 |

http://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2016/07/18/cbn-finally-frees-the-naira-funds-forward-contracts/?utm_content=buffer62742&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter.com&utm_campaign=buffer Speaking in a phone interview with THISDAY, the Chief Executive Officer, Financial Derivatives Company Limited, Mr. Bismarck Rewane, welcomed the decision to finally allow market forces to determine the value of the naira, saying: “It is about time they did the real thing.” “Every other thing they were doing was to a large extent a rigged system under the flexible exchange rate system. That did not allow the naira to find its true equilibrium. “You intervene in the market and naira finds its price. Then you intervene to influence that price. You don’t set a price by starting an intervention before the price emerges. By doing that, you will not know whether you are supporting the currency at an unsustainable rate. “To me, I am relieved that finally we have gotten to this point. I understand it was done out of pressure from the international community. I learnt international investors said they were not going to do anything with us until we show some seriousness. “So I think it is the most welcome development since this forex regime started. Now, you are going to see the parallel market depreciate initially, and then appreciate significantly and the difference between the parallel and interbank market would narrow. |

kentoto:We haven't devalued enough to attract FPIs.. Forwarded: Guys - Just to update you, CBN has finally agreed to completely float the NGN freely so that it can trade at any level where market forces determine. It will be noted that although CBN had introduced a flexible interbank fx mkt on June 20, it never really allowed the NGN to trade above 283/284. CBN had indirectly pegged the NGN at that level through daily interventions at 281.5/283 levels. Unfortunately, this action did not go down well with offshore portfolio investors who felt that despite announcing the floating of the NGN through the interbank fx market, the CBN really only moved the currency peg. Therefore they weren't willing to bring in their much-needed dollars as expected by the CBN - a development that the CBN confirmed for itself when it embarked on an international roadshow to interact with investors in US and UK last week. Faced with the stark reality of the feedback from these dissatisfied investors, CBN had a quick conference call with banks on Friday to grant them leave to trade the NGN at whatever rates they can match a willing seller with a willing buyer. Consequently, interbank fx rate had closed at 292 last Friday. It will be interesting to see the rate at which the NGN will trade next week and whether offshore investors will start moving in significant amounts of dollars in response to CBN's gesture. |
