PoliticsRe: If Igbos Can Claim NOI, Why Not Nzeogu? by Fejoku: 8:38am On Jan 17, 2023
Tingotoe:
Oga answer the simple question and put this baseless rant aside. Why claim Ngozi and deny Nzegwou? Aren't they from the same so called Ibo part of Delta state?
No one is denying Nzeogwu to be Igbo. Our fathers didn't deny him neither are we in this generation denying him. Our disagreement stems from two things which are;
1. The ethnic identity of a coup plotter isn't a justification for the massacre of innocent people just because they share the same grouping. Why the state sponsored pogrom that later led to a genocidal war?
2. After the end of the Biafran war, a new and wicked policy of limiting Igbos to the South East only was promoted. We now hear Nzeogwu's home town of Okpanam to be South South and/Niger Delta which should signify a non-Igbo area but whenever the 1966 coup was been discussed, it isn't associated with the new identity given to his home town.

Therefore, we want to call out hypocrites like you who keep to this narrative to come open for once in your miserable lives and answer the damn question. Is Nzeogwu's home town and senatorial zone Igbo land or not?

Is Nzeogwu Igbo or Urhobo?
Chukwuma Nzeogwu of blessed memory was an Igbo man. He was from Okpanam in present day Delta State and formerly Midwestern region. You have your answer.
Now answer his question.
He's from Delta State and also Igbo. Does he deserve to be killed because Nzeogwu led a coup?

Bukar Sukar Dimka emptied a full magazine of bullets in the head of Gen Murtala Mohammed while Murtala was the Head of State! Dimka was arrested and killed for this! If I ask any of you about Dimkas ethnicity, 99% won't know!

Major Gideon Orkar blasted most of Doddan baracks in his quest to arrest Babangida during his coup. Lots of people died. He will later exercise the present day North West including Niger State out of Nigeria and freely handed them over to Niger republic!
Few people here know about Orkars tribe!

So what's the fixation on the January 15 coup? The present Head of State has participated in atleast 3 coups! Yet you all rewarded him with the presidency! The fulani herdsmen are emptying villages all over Nigeria in the most gruesome ways possible, yet no one harasses Atiku or Kwankwaso about that! Boko Haram wants to turn all of Nigeria into a Muslim caliphate! But none of you is worried about Shettimma as a vee pee.., a man accused of starting Boko Haram!

Let's just say that the January 15 coup had become a very convinient smokescreen, through which all firebrand tribalist in Nigeria, attack their political rivals from the East, without any fear of being called out for such crude petty brand of base politics.
You couldn't have written it any better.
Only one coup out of eight is attached to an ethnic group and serves as a vehicle of hate against them to the tune of carrying out a genocide against them. More than half a century later, they're still being attacked for it yet they wonder why we want out.

According to the most credible history from various facts and from Ojukwu himself, after Aburi Accord, he felt the FG were insincere. Being determined to damn their consequences, he announced secession which triggered reaction from govt.
What Ojukwu should v done was to wait for govt to fail in their promises after few months and label the govt as the ones who breached agreement.
Well, that timing will mean one thing which is that he had accepted Gowon's overall prominence which is what he didn't want to accept knowing fully well what that portends for the entire south. Waiting for Gowon to fail won't have helped Ojukwu anyway as the newly created states from the Eastern region would have moved on with new administrators totally subservient to Gowon and the north. What psychological effect would that have had on the entire Southern Nigeria? Don't you think that the southern minorities would have felt that Igbos don't have the guts to challenge the north and feel defeated already?
The only benefit I see with Ojukwu delaying for Gowon to fail was the prevention of the massive death Ndigbo and other Easterners suffered during the war.
On the other side, Gowon would have been toppled earlier by Murtala and he would have carried on with the jihad Ahmadu Bello had set out to do. The middlebelt would have been the worst affected without Gowon being able to do anything.
CultureRe: Do Igbos Suffer More Discrimination Than Other Tribes in Nigeria ? by Fejoku: 6:14pm On Jan 16, 2023
RedboneSmith:
I will start with something that happened in an organization I used to work for. For context, there are people of every background in Nigeria in the organisation. Mostly Southerners and a few Northerners. There had been cases in the past where people of other ethnic groups (not Igbo) had either stolen/embezzled the organisation's funds, or used their position within the organization to give lucrative jobs to people from their own ethnic groups. When this happens and we find out, we address it without dragging the offender's ethnic group into it.

Well, during my last year in the organization, an Igbo man was the Head, and he embezzled funds (something non-Igbos had done in the past). When the news broke, I immediately became very uncomfortable because from experience, I knew what was going to happen. I knew all of us Igbos were going to be dragged, and people would take the opportunity to say unsavoury things about Igbo people. Not just Nnamdi who stole money.

I wasn't wrong. It didn't take time before the comments started flooding in. "Igbo man. Igbo people. This is why an Igbo man will never rule this country. It is always them. Thieves. It is always them."

I was in this organization for 8 years. I had seen Yorubas and Edos and Akwa Ibom people steal money and abuse their office. There were actually more cases of Yorubas doing that sort of thing in that organization within the time I was there. Not once did anyone say a Yoruba will never rule Nigeria again because some of them that dipped hand into the organization's account. One Igbo man did it and the WhatsApp group caught fire with all sorts of ethnically-charged comments.

Here's the thing. Tribalism is a pastime in Nigeria and all of us, Igbos and non-Igbos done collect. But there's something different about the antagonism that most Nigerians harbour towards Igbo people. We may try and deny it and claim that Igbos are being overly dramatic, but in doing that we'd be like the white people in America who claim that racism is over and dead, and that black people are just being whiny.

Perhaps, the antagonism stems from the first coup and the scare of Igbo domination that was propagated in that general period. Perhaps it stems from the stereotyped Igbo traits of competitiveness, aggressive go-getter attitude, a certain level of crassness and loudness, which Igbo people were said to carry with them as they left their region and moved into the region of their Nigerian neighbours. Perhaps its just sheer jealousy towards people who made much out of very little.

Whatever it is, dislike for the Igbo is a whole other level of tribalism, and I make bold to say that the Igbo are easily the most despised ethnic group in Nigeria. Even with the plague of killer herdsmen, Nigerians in general no hate Fulani reach the way they hate Igbos. I mean, while herdsmen were sweeping through the Southwest and other parts of the South, people like Adeyinka Grandson were still presenting the Igbo as the biggest existential threat to Yorubaland. People went as far as ignoring glaring evidence and claimed that it was Igbos, rather than the Fulani, who kidnapped Olú Falae.

Years ago,I saw videos made by some Northerners purporting that Igbo people were actually the brain behind Boko Haram. That idea was diffusing through the alleys of social media many years ago, but I don't think anyone is still spreading it today. The truth has become too plain to be ignored or twisted.

But the fact remains that the Igbos are everyone's go-to fall guy.

Even something like misogynism has, for some reason, become synonymous with Igbo men. When the most jaw-dropping cases of misogynistic behaviour I have seen in this my life came from I**** men. (I no wan' mention the ethnic group - I no get strength for fight.)
You captured it succinctly. I couldn't have written it any better. The problem is that most Nigerians don't even see it as a problem. The latent hatred flows easily.

Nigeria just have to survive, else it will spell disastrous consequences on all of us. Nigeria is like an arrangee marriage of strange bedfellows. The marriage had been very tumultuous and painful, sometimes abusive. But, it have produced many children and numerous grand children. The family fortune has been so interwoven and intertwined and it is very difficult determining who owns what and the contributions of each member of the family. Such a divorce though possible would be extremely difficult and tumultuous. It cannot be achieved by fiat, or by threats and violence. It can only be achieved through the civil and political process.

I think a new political structure akin to parliamentary system can be achieved. It will take sincerity on the part of the political class. Whether igbo, fulani, yoruba or igala. The political class is just too insincere and manipulative. They are the ones that don't want Nigeria to unite, else yet lose their relevance.
Ok let the tumultuous journey continue as the middlebelt tribes are wiped out and their lands supplanted by foreigners. When the middlebelt is gone and you have them right on your necks, I guess that is when you will understand the enormity of the problem. The millions of uneducated and religiously indoctrinated almajiris is a weight you definitely can't bare. Look at Burkina faso and Mali, this is what you'll have to deal with. The problem is far beyond the political class. The traditional as well as the religious are deeply in it. I don't want to share a country with them and will continue the fight for the sake of my descendants and land.
You guys can stay with them. I wish you all the best in your parliamentary system. Count us out though.

The problem with you guys is that you don't listen to others. You only listen to your own thoughts and believe every other person must agree to your own thoughts and needs.

It was not only Gowon that quarrelled with the un(signed) aburi accord, southern minorities including those of the Eastern Nigeria that you guys intended to incorporate into your biafra were vehemently against the accord. Furthermore some prominent military officers were also against the accord. It would have been unfair for only igbos and a few igbo related tribes through blackmail and threats of war on Nigeria, to rail road Nigeria unconstitutionally into a loose confederation. Gowon only initially succumbed to the blackmail but on getting back to Nigeria had to backpedal due to the strength of the opposition. I am grateful you guys have not started calling me names like fulani slave, traitor and other unsavory insults.

I don't think Akenzua suggested any structure. All he pointed out was that a loose confederation is the same thing as succession. And the minorities in Eastern Nigeria along with other Regions were not prepared for secession at that time.

I think we should go back to the regional and parliamentary system bequeathed to us by the Britisht that was truncated by the Nzeogwu led coup. It allowed each region to spend its own resources to develop its region. That was the period of the fastest development in Nigeria.
So you still believe that Nigeria with any sort of structure will survive? As a matter of possibility, do you think you can get back regionalism under a parliamentary system?

At least, you should know that it was Philip Asiodu, an ibo man that played a key role in dissuading Gowon from signing the Accord.
Is it the accord that was already signed at Aburi that you're Gowon was dissuaded to sign? Is your reasoning alright? Philip Asiodu and Prince Akenzua only encouraged Gowon not to honour what he had signed in the presence of dignitaries including the then we'll respected Ghanaian Head of State. The responsibility still resided on the Military man called Yakubu Gowon. He has a copy of that agreement to till date. Thank God he's still alive. You can press him to make it open for this generation to see if he wants his soul to rest in peace. However, if you prefer the age old lies to continue, then let is continue. We shall see where it will lead us to.
Enjoy the current Nigeria of Philip Asiodu, Prince Akenzua and Yakubu Gowon's making.

Ok lets forget if the Aburi accord was signed or not, we can agree that all 4 military Governors of the time, with Gowon, reached an agreement at Aburi. Ghana

Who are civilians in military rule? Civilians have little or no say in military Government, it is not democracy. So it doesn't matter which civilian was not happy with what was agreed at Aburi.

Lets call a spade a spade. Gowon could not implement what was agreed in Aburi because it prevented him and his fellow Northern cohorts from getting that which they wanted the most, political control of Nigeria

So Gowon quickly abolished the 4 Regions, created 12 states, half of which was given to the North, then dismantled resource control to make the federal government all powerful

Of course, Ojukwu and the East were not going to have that blatant attempt at domination, and seceded, which led to war
Simple as ABC. If Ojukwu hadn't acted that way, they would be blaming Ndigbo today for not standing up for the entire south.
Ken Saro-Wiwa who ran to Gowon in Lagos shortly before his death sent a message to Ojukwu. T.Y Danjuma today is complaining bitterly at how internal colonialism is on going by the fulanis. All those who disagreed with Ojukwu are today rethinking their stance and some how, nairaland pundits wants us to believe the erroneous narrative that was upheld at the time against the truth that surrounded the events themselves.
The truth is always a living seed which will always sprout irrespective of how long it might have been buried.

I asked for a signed copy of the agreement you don't even bother discussing it.

I told you that the Aburi meeting was a power sharing agreement purely military officers to prevent the impending war, you pretend you did not see it.

I presented the fact that civilians from the other Regions rejected the accord, you become oblivious.

Not only did civilians reject the aburi accord, some senior military officers who were bypassed in the power sharing appointments like T.Y. Danjuma and Murtala Muhammed rejected the accord.

See more of what really transpired below. I hope your mind can grasp new information.
In conclusion, Yakubu Gowon and Prince Akenzua had their way by bye passing previously signed agreement at Aburi. Today's Nigeria is the legacy of their own decision.

Two questions for you. Do you still agree to the structure suggested by Prince Akenzua as at the time even without the benefit of foresight?
Do you think that there's a need for restructure or outright dissolution of Nigeria? Give your reasons.
