The point is that Christmas was deliberately placed on that day in replacement of an existing festival of the greatest magnitude (the feast of the Saturnalia, which was celebrated from a week from around Dec 17 - 23). It was strategically done to ease the acceptance of Christmas being that Christianity had only become the official religion of the Roman Empire recently.

There's no big deal with that as you say though, its just a fact of history.
