Jobs/Vacancies › Re: Is This The New Interview Trend In Abuja? Invited For Interviews Only To Be Sent by femi4: 3:41pm On Jul 14
isaiah4life:
Good day, Nairalanders.

I honestly need to know if I'm the only one experiencing this or if this has become the new normal in Abuja.

Within the past one month, I have attended interviews at three different organizations (names withheld) for the position of Administrative Assistant.
Like many job seekers, I was simply trying to get something doing while navigating these difficult times.

The process was always the same. I applied online, submitted my CV, and after reviewing it, they invited me for an interview. I assumed I had at least made it past the first stage.

To my surprise, when I arrived at each venue, I was asked to submit another hard copy of my CV which was fair enough.

At one of the interviews, we were instructed to dress in corporate business attire. I travelled all the way from Saburi to Games Village, spending money I could barely afford.
When I got there, I noticed I was the only candidate wearing a full suit. The other two female candidates were out of line with their dressing. I didn't think much of it because I believed the interview would determine who got the job.

We all waited for almost three hours.
Then the owner of the organization came out, thanked everyone for coming, and asked the security officer to call out the names of those who would proceed. He added, "If you don't hear your name, you can leave."

The two ladies' names were called.
Mine wasn't.
No interview.
No questions.
No opportunity to introduce myself.
Nothing.
I quietly picked up my bag and trekked to the nearest cab junction around Area 1 to augment my transportation.

Unfortunately, this same experience has happened to me three different times this month in different organizations around Games Village, Wuse, and Gwarinpa.

What I don't understand is this:
If you've already reviewed my CV online and found me qualified enough to invite me, why ask me to spend money on transportation, print another CV, wait for hours, and then send me home without giving me even one minute to speak?

Why invite candidates if they won't even be interviewed?
Has anyone else experienced this recently?
In your next life, know person that know the CEO or come back as a woman

Family › Re: 16 Years Of Tears In My Marriage by femi4: 3:10pm On Jul 14
amili66:
I really wish I had never married this man. I dont know what is keeping me in the union but oh no, I dont have any happy time with him.

He is not committed at allllllllllllll, am in pain, deeply sad and sorrowful. He is promiscuous, have speech issues and maybe memory issues. Very had to please and make this difficult always.

He'd rather please outsider than me making me and the kids happy. When I got pregnant, I only received 100k from him to buy infants items as I had twins, I funded every other things and not that he doesnt have money. We build our house together but his family sees him as their Lord and this man train his cousins, nieces, and now had the mind to tell me again that he has adopted another child of his cousin to sponsor. He never pays our kids school fees 100%, I'll always have to balance the rest cos I do not want embarrassment from their school.

We moved abroad some years ago and no he says he'll drive my kids out of the house once they clock 14, but he is training his family children who are over 25 years old. Well, I don't have many, I can train them but I truly regret this marriage,

I am never going to advise anyone ot marry.

Coming abroad, this man would sit and call those in Nigeria for hours daily, he is never serious with his work and will chose to work form home until he got sacked and since then he's being struggling to get a job and I am getting blammed daily. He said his friends called him to warn him never to give me a smiling face, they dont know I have never had a smiling face from him and this man has gone from bad to worst.

You all who it to read social media comments over men who cry woes abroad, if I leave this one now and he comes on social media, you all will start to condemn the woman without listening to her. Am in pain, it has gone from worse while in Nigeria to worst here abroad. Everyday he says marriages dont work abroad, regret coming but go back he is refusing saying we must all go back with him. I cant, I rather remain here and cut off from all my friends and family.

Maybe I remained in the marriage because of shame from people around. And I am not from that loving family so they'll laugh me.

Am so sad; at times, I just feel I never said yes to him, I had many other suitors. but I considered him because he was nice then, things changed the very first day we got married, he started telling me all the evil advise his family had advised him.

I regret building with him; I should have invested on my own.

He has never bought even a shirt for his kids, shoes, toys, christmas cloths, nothing, i Mean notihng, never. when their school asked they buy laptops, he said they are not of the age, nothing. But this man dishes out money to others. I have been supportive enough, but still not appreciated. All i get is name calling, I have never since our marriage of 16 years received a gift, I dont know what it looks like. They have never owrn christmas dress bought by their father.
And which school will ask kids to buy a laptop? Are you guys living above your means?

If hes useless in Nig, he ll definitely be useless in abroad

Romance › Re: 80s And 90s Romance And Dating by femi4: 5:15am On Jul 14
Rapmoney:
One particular thing about the older Mellenials is that they transited in dating from one era to another...yes, the era of no electronic gadgets to an era that ushered the advent of electronic gadgets and social media.

Below are characteristics of 80s and 90s romance and dating.

1. Getting a response from a girl could take up to one, two, or even three months. Some of us never got any response till we stopped seeing each other.

2. If you impregnate a girl as a young man, the whole area would know because the girl's parents and extended family members would bring fight to your parents' house. 80s and 90s things. cheesy

3. There was no phone, tab, or social media. We used to send handwritten letters to our crush through someone. Back then, writing the letter was not a problem. The problem was who would deliver it to her?

4. There were stricter parents then. You would most likely talk to a girl if she was on errands, or sending a trusted person to call her from home. You dare not near her house. Her father's lion's roar would make you scamper for safety. Some boys chop beating sef.

5. There was no social media. You would not be bothered that your partner was chatting or communicating with someone else.

6. Long distance relationship was equal to maximum torture. If you send letter to your babe in Lagos and you dey Warri, she would receive it from Nigeria Postal Service after 3 months. Then you must have been in another relationship.

7. You could date a girl for 6 months, and you have not seen her pants. Nor be joke!

8. Baby mama was not common as it is today. If you give girl belle, dem go force you to marry her. Before 6pm that same day, her bags would be in your house. Na so Bros Ogbole take marry albino that year.

9. Many people entered relationships with marriage as the intention. Today, many people dey inside situationships

10. You could stay for days or weeks without speaking with your girlfriend/boyfriend, and both of you reside in same town. How una wan take see?

11. Guys that were fainthearted and could not toast females paid other bold guys to talk to babes they liked on their behalf. Some mischievous guys utilized the opportunities and converted the girls to theirs.

12. People bought request cards on radio to dedicate love songs to their partners at night. We disturb Radio Delta that year, nor be small.

13. There was no billing for iPhones and Peruvian hairs. Gifts were modest.

14. If una venture quarrel for inside relationship, just know say the quarrel fit reach 2 months if care is not taken.

15. Reputation mattered a lot. E get the kind person wey your parents go warn you say deh nor wan see you with again.

16. Having a date was simple. You could share one meat pie and a bottle of Fanta with your date. Please don't try that in these modern times, or else you go enter social media.

Last words: Even if every era has its own challenges, I usually view this with a nostalgic feeling.
I wrote so many letters. Love going to post office those days to buy stamps and drop the letters grin

Family › Re: Why So Many Nigerian Couples Stay Married But Secretly Unhappy by femi4: 9:06pm On Jul 13
Dmthreads:
I've sat with enough married people — family, friends, people who trusted me enough to talk honestly — to notice something a lot of us don't say out loud: many marriages that look "solid" from the outside are just two people who've quietly stopped expecting happiness from it, and learned to function anyway.

Let's talk about why.

Divorce is still treated like a personal failure, not an option

In a lot of homes, divorce isn't seen as "this marriage didn't work," it's seen as "you failed as a wife/husband," or worse, "you brought shame to the family." So people stay, not because things are okay, but because leaving costs more socially than staying ever will — regardless of how unhappy staying makes them.

"What will people say?" runs deeper than people admit

Extended family, church members, neighbors, "society" — there's this constant awareness of being watched and judged. A woman who leaves an unhappy marriage risks being labeled difficult, proud, or "the reason it didn't work," even in situations where she wasn't the problem at all. A man who leaves risks being seen as irresponsible or incapable of "managing his home." So a lot of people just... stay, and perform.

Marriage is treated as the finish line, not an ongoing thing

Once the wedding happens, so much of the pressure and attention disappears. Nobody's checking in on whether the couple is actually thriving — just whether they're still together. "Are you guys still married?" becomes the only metric of success, completely separate from "are you guys actually happy?"

Children become the glue, whether they should be or not

So many people stay "for the kids," believing that an unhappy but intact home is automatically better than kids growing up in two happy separate homes. Sometimes that's true. Often, kids can feel the tension anyway — they just grow up thinking that's what marriage normally looks like: two people coexisting, not necessarily two people in love.

Financial dependence quietly traps people

For a lot of women especially, leaving isn't just an emotional decision, it's a financial one. If she's not financially independent, walking away can mean starting completely from zero, sometimes with children in tow. That reality alone keeps a lot of people in marriages they'd otherwise have left long ago.

Emotional needs get replaced with duty

Over time, some couples stop expecting romance, connection, or genuine partnership, and settle into a business-like arrangement — bills split, roles assigned, house running smoothly, but emotional distance quietly widening in the background. From the outside it looks stable. From the inside, it can feel like living with a very polite roommate.

Faith and tradition sometimes get used to silence complaints

"Marriage is not by force to enjoy, endure it," "pray about it," "no marriage is perfect" — all valid in some contexts, but sometimes used to shut down real conversations people need to have about genuine unhappiness, instead of helping them address it.

The performance becomes exhausting

Smiling in family pictures, posting anniversary posts, showing up as "the perfect couple" publicly, while privately feeling unseen or unfulfilled — that gap between the public image and the private reality is where a lot of quiet suffering lives.

This isn't an argument for or against staying

Some couples genuinely work through hard seasons and come out stronger — that's real too. This is more about acknowledging that a lot of marriages that look successful on paper are being held together by fear of judgment, financial survival, or duty, more than actual happiness. And that's worth being honest about, at least privately, even if nothing changes as a result.

Have you noticed this in marriages around you? And for the married people here — honestly, do you think happiness is still the priority for most couples, or has "staying together" quietly become the actual goal? 👇

RandDigital:

Jayden Adams appeared sad and alone in a video that has recently resurfaced following his shock death on Saturday, 11 July. In the clip, the Bafana Bafana players were surrounded by teammates celebrating their win over South Korea in the FIFA World Cup group stages.

The victory secured their historical advancement into the Round of 32.

Police are investigating an inquest into the circumstances of his death, which is believed to be a suicide.

Adams was remembered in a minute of silence, which took place before England and Norway’s semi-final match later that day.

JAYDEN ADAMS CUTS A SAD FIGURE IN VIDEO

In the wake of Jayden Smith’s death, a clip of him amongst his Bafana teammates has resurfaced.

In the clip, the South African players celebrate their much-needed win over South Korea in their changeroom, on 25 June. The victory secured their place in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32, a first for South Africa.

Players sang and danced in joy, while others filmed the happy occasion. However, Adams was seen seated and appearing sombre.

The celebration took place a few days after Adams’s grandmother Marianna died in South Africa. It also occurred just two days before she was laid to rest, which Adams missed due to him performing his international duties.

In a post-match interview, Jayden paid tribute to his grandmother, stating, “My legs were playing, but my heart was in heaven with her.

“She’s the reason I’m here… Wearing the green and gold meant everything to her.”

Bodman rule = divide first, multiply second and subtract

ans=72years
That's not always true

We were taught Bodmas wrongly

In PEMDAS, multiplication comes before divison.

The ultimate rule is solving from left to right when dealing with + and - OR x and ÷

Zayttoven:
Use BODMAS rule and you will get your answer
B-Bracket
O-Order
D-Division
M-Multiplication
A-Addition
A-Subtraction

Division comes first so, 30÷5=6
Multiplication is next so, 6×3=18
Subtraction next so, 90-18=72

Final answer is 72
Though you are correct but division does not come first

The rule is solving from left to right when dealing with x and ÷ or + and -

Multiplication and division do not have a strict hierarchy, they share equal precedence.

Same applies to addition and subtraction

Applying Bodmas and solving from left to right

-30÷5×3 = -18

90 -18 = 72

Tunde is 72 yrs old

A lot of people will miss it thinking multiplication is higher than division or vise versa

Multiplication and division do not have a strict hierarchy, they share equal precedence.

Same applies to addition and subtraction

Romance › Re: “virginity Doesn't Make Someone A Wife Material” – Chiwetalu Agu Shares Deep Adv by femi4: 5:18pm On Jul 13
[quote author=EmmyMaestro post=140002658]“Virginity doesn't make someone a wife material” – Chiwetalu Agu shares deep advice on choosing a life partner

Veteran Nollywood actor Chiwetalu Agu has shared his thoughts on relationships and marriage, advising people not to choose partners based solely on virginity or physical qualities.

In a message shared on X (formerly Twitter), the actor noted that while virginity may represent purity, it does not automatically determine a person’s character, loyalty or ability to build a successful marriage.

Chiwetalu Agu stressed that people should take time to understand their partners before marriage, noting that character, kindness, respect and emotional maturity are the qualities that truly matter in a lasting relationship.

“Keeping your virginity does not automatically make you wife material. Don’t marry a woman simply because she is a virgin, and the same thing applies to men. Virginity signifies purity, not loyalty, good character, emotional intelligence or emotional maturity.

“For the sake of your life, peace, happiness and sanity, choose someone whose character has been tested and proven. Marry someone who genuinely connects with you, someone who is kind, respectful, loving and emotionally mature,” he said.

The actor added that finding a partner who is both a virgin and loyal, respectful, loving, emotionally mature and God-fearing is a blessing, but maintained that character is the foundation of every lasting marriage.

His message has since generated conversations online, with many agreeing that lasting relationships are built on character, compatibility and emotional maturity rather than a single quality.
