CelebritiesWhoopi Goldberg Is Launching A Line Of Marijuana Products by femiakinbully(op): 4:41pm On Mar 31, 2016
Whoopi Goldberg became the latest celebrity to enter the increasingly lucrative world of legalized marijuana on Wednesday when she announced that she would launch a line of cannabis-infused products aimed at women.

Ms. Goldberg, a comedian and daytime talk show host, partnered with a Northern California-based producer of marijuana edibles to form a company that will offer products designed to alleviate menstrual pain, like cannabis-infused chocolate, tincture, cream and bath salt.

“This was all inspired by my own experience from a lifetime of difficult periods and the fact that cannabis was literally the only thing that gave me relief,” Ms. Goldberg, a longtime proponent of marijuana legalization, said in a statement.

The brand, “Whoopi & Maya,” created with the marijuana entrepreneur Maya Elisabeth, will be available only in California for now.

The legal marijuana industry may be young, but its path to celebrity endorsement is already well-tread, as several connoisseurs have rushed to cash in on a boom time.

The country singer Willie Nelson, a proud smoker, teamed up with a New York-based private equity firm in September to develop Willie’s Reserve, styled as “a premium cannabis lifestyle brand,” to be sold in Colorado and Washington State, where its recreational use is legal.

The rock star Melissa Etheridge was among the earliest to get into the act, endorsing a line of marijuana-infused wines in 2014. She told VICE in an interview that year that the vintners behind it were “ganjapreneurs” who were “on the front line of this thing.”

The market for legal marijuana products has seen explosive growth in recent years as the drug has become legal in more states. The recreational use of marijuana is legal in four states plus Washington, D.C., and its medical use is permitted in 19 more.

A report by two marijuana analysis and investment firms, the ArcView Group and New Frontier, estimated that $5.4 billion worth of legal marijuana products were sold nationwide in 2015, up from $4.6 billion the year before. They predicted $6.7 billion in legal sales in 2016.

In an interview with Vanity Fair magazine, Ms. Goldberg emphasized that her products were intended to be medicinal. She may have alleviated menstrual pain in the past by lighting up a joint, but that is not what her new company is all about.

“For me, I feel like if you don’t want to get high high, this is a product specifically just to get rid of discomfort,” she told the magazine. “Smoking a joint is fine, but most people can’t smoke a joint and go to work.”

HealthA New Refrigerator Laser Can Detect Food Poisoning-related Bacteria by femiakinbully(op): 3:36pm On Mar 31, 2016
A new refrigerator laser can detect food poisoning-related bacteria

Your refrigerator may be where you store your favorite items in the house (seriously, cheese over jewelry any day), but some of our iceboxes may also be doubling as breeding grounds for dangerous bacteria and food-borne illnesses. Thankfully, there’s now a solution for that. To bring your refrigerator into the 21st century, simply affix to it a laser that will annihilate microbes residing on your food. Well, it will detect the microbes, though annihiliation would be a great next step.

While a laser-packing fridge may seem like a rather extreme approach, the problem at hand is no small issue — in fact, it’s estimated that around 50 million Americans get food poisoning each year, with around 3,000 of these cases result in fatalities. So don’t laugh at this seemingly militaristic notion of a fridge-mounted laser.
Currently, most households attempt to determine whether or not their leftovers are still ripe for the picking by sniffing around and giving a cursory glance to the takeout container’s contents. Sadly, this is often insufficient when it comes to catching the microbes that are responsible for potentially deadly diseases. But the laser developed by researchers at the Korea Advanced Institutes of Science and Technology certainly can.
The device is capable of detecting the movement of the bacteria that make a home on your hors d’oeuvres, all without ever touching the food itself. “By simply measuring dynamic speckle intensity patterns reflected from samples and analyzing the temporal correlation time, the presence of living microorganisms can be non-invasively detected with high sensitivity,” the team’s paper on their invention reads.
Food Poisoning Laser
To test the effectiveness of the laser, Dr. Jonghee Yoon and his team contaminated a couple of chicken breasts, one with E. coli and one with Bacillus cereus (both of which are common food poisoning culprits). They found that their laser technique managed to detect both types of contamination (but was unable to differentiate between the two).

PoliticsWhy The Nigerian Nuclear Project Should Not Takeoff by femiakinbully(op):
Punch reports that the government has announced that it will be generating an initial 1,000MW, and 4,000MW using nuclear energy.
Reports say this formed part of the discussions between President Muhammadu Buhari and the Director-General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Mr. Yukiya Amano, during a meeting at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

Nuclear power is the use of nuclear reactions that release nuclear energy[5] to generate heat, which most frequently is then used in steam turbines to produce electricity in a nuclear power station. The term includes nuclear fission, nuclear decay and nuclear fusion. Presently, the nuclear fission of elements in the actinide series of the periodic table produce the vast majority of nuclear energy in the direct service of humankind, with nuclear decay processes, primarily in the form of geothermal energy, and radioisotope thermoelectric generators, in niche uses making up the rest.
In 2011 nuclear power provided 10% of the world's electricity[6] In 2007, the IAEA reported there were 439 nuclear power reactors in operation in the world,[7] operating in 31 countries.[8] In Japan many reactors ceased operation in the wake of the Fukushima nuclear disaster while they are assessed for safety. In 2011 worldwide nuclear output fell by 4.3%, the largest decline on record, on the back of sharp declines in Japan (-44.3%) and Germany (-23.2%)

Personally I don’t think and believe Nigeria is ready for this kind of Installation as it requires extreme professionalism and precaution for which I say our public sector isn’t ready for.
Kindly observe or Maintenance cultures with our (Publicly owned) Refineries, Railway, Airlines, Hospitals, and Telecoms etc. i.e. if some are still existing.
I thank God that our Climate doesn’t have extreme weather cases like the hurricanes, earthquakes and all ,but we do have a few very greedy few who would rather divert money meant for the Upliftment of the Nation for their personal benefits .
God forbid salaries are not paid and the workers at the proposed Nuclear station refuse to show up for work or some insane extremist decide to detonate a bomb just to make a statement.
A disaster that can emanate from this negligence/chaos can be compared to any Hurricane, Earthquake that occurs in other parts of the world.

Our Great Nation is blessed with Rivers,*Coal and Gas Presence already, I’ll solicit that we build with what is available to us Hydro Power Stations,*Coal & Gas Plants *

Kindly note that these are my personal views and may differ from yours.

PhonesWhatsapp To Include Bold And Italics In Messages by femiakinbully(op): 12:58pm On Mar 17, 2016
The latest beta release of WhatsApp features some basic text formatting options including bold and italics. While features in beta versions of WhatsApp often go missing – think back to Google Drive cloud backup which appeared and then took half a year to reappear – there’s little reason to think this won’t be rolling out to the Play Store version pretty soon.

Much like other apps that support formatting text, you simply add an asterisk to the start and end of a word you want to bold or underscores before and after words you want italicized. When you receive messages from someone with the latest version, their name will be bolded in the notifications shade too and the formatting of the message will also show up..

We’re not sure if there are plans to add additional formatting options like underlining or strikethroughs, but they would add a layer of fun to what is otherwise a fairly straightforward messaging app.

You can sign up for the WhatsApp beta testing program here and then update your WhatsApp version in the Play Store to try out the new changes.

What other formatting options would you like to see?

This is Tamburawa Bridge in Kano State.

the Base is almost Totally washed out .

This is the updated Facebook post from Nura Alkali:

In my earlier post about this bridge at Tamburawa, Kano State, i thought an engineer introduced the metal tubes beneath the concrete columns as a temporary solution. Four engineers later explained that the tubes are called piers and were part of the original design, and that this problem resulted from sand excavation on the river bed.
Therefore, i offer my unreserved apologies to the engineer who designed this bridge, and condemn the activities of those who endanger human life through unregulated sand excavation for commercial purposes. Also to blame are community leaders, such as village heads, who allow this in their domains. The FMW should do something before people die.

PoliticsPanic As Tomb Of Late Benue Monarch “collapses” During Heavy Rain by femiakinbully(op): 8:25am On Mar 15, 2016
Tor Tiv IV, Orchivirigh Akawe Torkula, was buried about six weeks ago.
Tor Tiv IV, Orchivirigh Akawe Torkula, died last December and was buried early February.

Abagu in Gboko local government area of Benue State was thrown into tumult, Monday.

News had it that the tomb of a late monarch had collapsed because the people who built it did a bad job.

The late Tor Tiv IV, Orchivirigh Akawe Torkula, was buried over a month ago. Following heavy downpour last Sunday, the tomb appeared to have caved in, witnesses say.

Mobs thronged the tomb, Monday, to witness what they believed was a collapse. People were heard saying that wouldn’t have happened if the tomb was properly constructed.

But the Tiv Area Traditional Council, issues a statement on Monday denouncing reports of the collapse.

The statement reads:

The attention of the Tiv Area Traditional Council has been drawn to the news making the rounds in the social media that, the grave of the Tor Tiv has collapsed. It is only aimed at creating a false impression by mischief makers that the late Tor Tiv was not properly buried. What actually happened was that, following a heavy down pour in the early hours of Sunday 13th March, 2016, a little portion of the pit where the mechanical lowering device for the casket was fixed which is far from the grave chamber where the body was entered sank a little and was immediately filled up with only one wheelbarrow of sand.

Sports(video ) Arsenal Fans Fighting Each Other After Watford Defeat by femiakinbully(op): 10:29am On Mar 14, 2016
Arsenal fans have been pictured fighting each other after the team’s 2-1 defeat to Watford in the FA Cup on Sunday.
Watford scored twice in the second-half thanks to goals from Odion Ighalo and Adlene Guedioura but Arsenal could have got back into it after Danny Welbeck scored late on and then had a fantastic chance to equalise but fired wide from close range.
The result caps a pretty miserable couple of weeks for Arsenal, with the club only having won one of their last seven in all competitions, the 4-0 win over Hull City in the week.

They are out of the FA Cup, likely to be out of the Champions League, and behind Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur in the race for the Premier League title.
After the game footage emerged of some fans fighting amongst each other outside the Emirates, although it is unclear what caused the fight to occur.

LASU (Anthony Campus) Has Not Released Results for Over 6Years

I can't even start to Imagine this and how it affects the Grads.

This is seriously unfair, 6years? No Result??

An affected student writes in…

I attended LASU (Anthony Campus) and graduated in the year 2009 but as I write this, we are yet to receive our results from the school authorities. We have pleaded with the school authorities on several occasions on the release of our results but unfortunately our pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

It is high time we call the attention of Lagos State government and Management of Lagos State University (LASU) to the plight of ex-Students of the institution. many students who have graduated from the school and met all the necessary requirements to be awarded certificates are yet to receive any proof of graduation.
The worse hit are students of the School of Part-time Studies (Anthony Campus) who have nothing to show after spending at least 6 years in the institution. Some students who wrote their final exams some 6 years ago are still at the mercy of the School’s Senate to approve their results. This is not encouraging especially in a highly competitive and harsh labour environment like ours.
We are pleading with the listening Governor of Lagos, His Excellency, Akinwunmi Ambode to look critically at the management of LASU with a view to expediting the release of student’s result‎. ——

The woman, whose name was not given by the spokesman for the army, Colonel Sani Usman, was one of the 27 persons, who escaped from Mayo Ali village.

Colonel Usman said troops of 117 Task Force Battalion made the rescue during a patrol around Mildo, Vapura, Mildo, Shelmi, Gubla, Dar and Hyambula settlements in Adamawa State.

Within the last 48 hours, the troops were able to clear Boko Haram camps, killed several of the terrorists, recovered vehicles, weapons, equipment and also rescued some persons.

The troops of 151 Task Force Battalion also cleared terrorists hideouts in Izza and eight surrounding other villages while troops of 121 Task Force Battalion deployed at Pulka came under attack from suspected Boko Haram terrorists fanning out of Sambisa forest to escape sustained aerial bombardment by the Nigerian Air Force pilots.

PoliticsSunday Oliseh To Appear Before House Of Reps by femiakinbully(op): 8:48am On Mar 13, 2016
Former Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh will appear before the House of Representatives Committee on Sports on Thursday in Abuja to discuss his sensational resignation as coach of the national team, AfricanFootball.com reports.

A top source at the National Assembly informed AfricanFootball.com, “Oliseh has been invited by the committee on sports. He is to give his own side of his resignation story.”

Another source said, “You know Oliseh, he will not hold back anything, he will give details of how some top officials made sure they frustrated him because they were not the ones who facilitated his appointment.”

Oliseh has already publicly tore at his former employers for failing to support him while he was in charge of the Super Eagles.

He also complained about how his contract was severally violated and has compiled his unpaid expenses and other entitlements.

NFF officials are far from amused with Oliseh’s date with the sports committee, arguing that it is a major distraction for them as they prepare to face Egypt in a crucial AFCON 2017 qualifiers later this month.

Crime(See The Faces ) Of Mexican-nigerian Drug Cartel Caught By Ndlea by femiakinbully(op): 8:26am On Mar 13, 2016
NDLEA Busts Mexican-Nigerian Drug Cartel [Photos]

National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has discovered a methamphetamine laboratory run by Mexicans and dislodged a major drug trafficking organisation in the country.

Officials of the Special Enforcement Team NDLEA discovered the illicit methamphetamine production laboratory in Asaba, Delta State.

According to the Head, Public Affairs, NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, the “super” methamphetamine laboratory, which is similar to the ones found in Mexico, is the first to be discovered in Nigeria.

Ofoyeju quoted the the Chairman/Chief Executive, NDLEA, Col. Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah, as saying the laboratory has a capacity of producing between 3,000kg to 4,000kg of methamphetamine per production cycle.

He said, “A significant feature of this laboratory is that the production process is more technical and sophisticated because it uses the synthesis method of methamphetamine production.

“All the principal actors linked to this illicit act were apprehended in a simultaneous raid on members of the drug syndicate in Lagos, Obosi in Anambra State, and at the laboratory in Asaba, Delta state.”

Those arrested include four Nigerians suspected to be joint owners of the laboratory and four Mexicans who are methamphetamine production experts allegedly hired as technical partners into the country.

The suspects are Chibi Aruh, William Ejike Agusi, Umolu Kosisochukwu and Umolu Ckukwemeka.

Others are Cervantos Madrid Jose Bruno, Rivas Ruiz Pastiano, Castillo Barraza Cristobal and Partida Gonzalez Pedro.

Abdallah described the operation as a technical undercover assignment leading to the dismantling of a drug trafficking organisation.

He said, “In a technical undercover operation, four Mexicans were arrested in active production exercise inside the super laboratory. The cartel first brought two Mexican methamphetamine experts, Cervantos Madrid Jose Bruno and Rivas Ruiz Pastiano to Nigeria but because of the size of the laboratory coupled with the volume of work, two additional Mexicans, Castillo Barraza Cristobal and Partida Gonzalez Pedro were added.

“Our investigations showed that a successful test production was done at the laboratory in February 2016.”

The laboratory was raided while the second production cycle was ongoing, according to the NDLEA.

Items recovered at the laboratory included 1.5kg of finished methamphetamine and 750 liters of liquid methamphetamine.

Other items found in the laboratory included industrial pressure pots, gas cylinders, gas burners, facial masks and numerous chemicals.

Also recovered in the operation were a Toyota Tundra, a Mercedes Benz Jeep ML and a Toyota Corolla car.

The anti-narcotics agency warned that unless drastic measures were taken against the trend, the rise of “super” laboratories would put Nigeria on the global spotlight in methamphetamine production.

“This is because the laboratory operates at an industrial scale with a high yield of 3,000kg to 4,000kgs of methamphetamine per production cycle.

“Nigeria methamphetamine is now competing with others in Asia and South Africa markets. The super laboratory does not need ephedrine because it uses the synthesis method.

“Drug cartels are now shifting from simple method of methamphetamine production to a more complex process.”

According to him, methamphetamine laboratories pose a serious threat to humanity because of the toxic nature of chemicals used.

He further said methamphetamine dump pollutes the environment because for every one pound of methamphetamine produced, about three to six pounds of toxic waste is created.

He noted that this could contaminate the water table within 500 meters radius from the laboratory.

“Even plants close to the dump were found to be dead. The laboratory contains highly poisonous solvents and gases. Some are pyrophoric in nature capable of explosion; other chemicals are carcinogenic, capable of causing cancer while some are highly combustible and corrosive,” Abdallah stated.

PoliticsThe Strike Was Suspended Not Called Off – PENGASSAN President by femiakinbully(op): 2:34pm On Mar 11, 2016

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hwmxfGQN2iI

The President of the PENGASSAN has said that the industrial action embarked by the Union was suspended and not called off.

Mr Francis Johnson who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily on Friday, said “A committee was set up to look at the issue. As at yesterday (Thursday), both PENGASSAN and NUPENG asked the committee to bring the names of their members so everything can be done transparently.”

The PENGASSAN President, however, gave reasons why the Union suspended the strike action.

“There was a communique issued, and in the communique there are some actions to be taken with timelines and time frame. We also need to see the sincerity and genuineness to be put in place so that everything can be done with transparency.

He urged for the government to review where we are, especially in an administration of accountability and transparency.

Answering a question on the cause of the strike, Mr Johnson said that the strike was as a result of the statement made by the Minister of State for Petroleum, (Dr. Ibe Kachikwu), about unbundling the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

“The Minister, while addressing a particular forum, said that the government will unbundle NNPC, set up directorates and have about 30 companies.

“The Union stakeholders at no fora, were taken along on such development.

“The act setting up NNPC, was an act of parliament, for you to also do anything, the act must be repeated or modified, which has not been done by the National Assembly.

The Minister of State for Petroleum, on March 3, said that the NNPC would be unbundled into 30 competitive revenue generating subsidiaries in the coming week.

He made the disclosure at the Oloibiri Lecture Series and Energy Forum organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Mr Johnson, however, advised the Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Mr Kachikwu, to issue a journal stating that his statement on restructuring the NNPC was misunderstood.

“It is also good that Mr Kachikwu said that he was misunderstood. He should issue statement that it is not his intention to unbundle the NNPC,” he added.
