Chommieblaq:You mean you didn't see anything in Kano? How come I snapped this? From Wudil... This was at about 3:15am. Stayed awake watching this until 3:50am before going to bed. Woke up at intervals from then on to watch the eclipse clear.
|
Baba1010:Awesome. Thanks |
ELYMAXiimus:It's happening right now. |
Another again...
|
SirWere:I hope you can manage this. My phone's camera isn't that powerful despite using the night settings.
|
I'm gently watching the moon from Kano state here. It's red in colour with a little part still showing the real colour of reflected light due to it not being total as at now. It's real people. Very red... Very very red. |
johnydon22:I give it to those guys. They were good and accurate with their predictions. |
Yeske2:I think it's best you set your alarm at 3:15am; so before 3:47am, you're fully awake to take enough pictures of the event. Set mine to 3:00am though, may soon adjust it. Please, let's share pictures here. Here in Kano, the sky is still clear and I'm hoping it doesn't rain cos most friends Whatsapping me are complaining of the downpour. |
johnydon22:Though we may not be there yet, but people are beginning to get conscious of science - Well, that's what I think. That aside, ever wonder how the ancients were able to predict phenomena such as this and many other accurately? Modified: according to BBC, this excerpt was gotten from their website The eclipse will begin at 02:11 GMT,If they are correct, all we need do is to add one hour to our time. |
andico34:Hello, I think MIT has made another discovery in this and according to them 'it is simpler and more precise.' Here - news.mit.edu/2015/crispr-editing-dna-genome-engineering-0925 |
Any idea what time tomorrow? As for the life forms, I previously read somewhere where they made reference to microbes. |
Yeske2:8:11 EDT is about 4 hours behind GMT and since we're an hour ahead of GMT, I'll say 1:11am tomorrow morning will it start, then peak at 3:47am if my calculations are correct. Brace up people, Uchiha Madara is about to start off his mugen tsukuyomi. ![]() Topic, I set off my alarm for 1:30am so I'll be sure it has started before coming outside to view it. Unfortunately, I can't snap it as my phone isn't powerful enough. BTW people, NASA organised a photo competition for this rare event so y'all may be interested in it. A link to their Facebook page - https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10153571810711772&id=54971236771&refid=8&_ft_=qid.6199267315988135707%3Amf_story_key.-4800506592617044640%3AeligibleForSeeFirstBumping.&__tn__=%2As My greetings to you: johnydon22. Keeping the science section alive together with your gang. ![]() cc: lalasticlala, this deserves front page. Thank you. |
Blakjewelry:Really? I never heard about them looking for fund. Of course, it had to be on the principles of the tokamak - what the ITER works with also. The good thing about science and engineering is that it seeks to improve existing design to give a much smaller but more powerful output as can be seen with this breakthrough. Teempakguy, this is another breakthrough in fusion power. Seems fusion energy is the future now. Yeah! Which movie did I first see the power of the sun being demonstrated? Spiderman 2, the one with Toby Macguire. Then again, it's not only in this ARC reactor that they made a breakthrough; they also made another in creating a superfluid gas - the so called Bose-Einstein condensate. https://newsoffice.mit.edu/2015/new-look-at-superfluidity-0810 Notice the people who funded the research at the end of the above link, same with this thread. Please, Nigeria, start funding research organisations so that we shall not be left behind. |
Hahaha! And Nigeria is where? Check the US Dept. Of Energy website and that of Nigeria and see the difference; they currently have researches on various energy means going on while ours is only promises. The only issue I have with wind turbines is the problem of killing of birds. I'm surprised it's up to 66GW just from wind prolly thanks to the numerous wind farms. Should Nigeria incorporate this, I wonder if we can build offshore wind farms because if I'm not mistaken, wind is much offshore compared to onshore. |
samwayne154:It's all written in the original post. |
oduastates:Do you mean Hon. Jibril or so? BTW, that guy did not put up the questions that drilled Iweala; it was a Southerner who was paid about N100m to prepare 50 questions and another amount to check the facts after Iweala brings the answers to them written. Bottom line, they are incompetent. |
samwayne154:Yeah. . . Pluto is considered a dwarf planet, same with Eris; so therefore, there are 8 main planets FOR NOW and 5 dwarf planets. Johnydon22, just checked your profile. You play basketball? Interesting. |
mos4phy:Hehehe! They don't pay oh or aptly put, I wasn't paid . . . Don't know about now though; policy may have changed. |
You know eh, when I found out about Pluto not being a planet, I recall being in conflict with some children I was teaching if I should make them know Pluto is not one anymore or continue with what their textbooks say because most curriculum haven't been updated to reflect that. Then again, I keep wondering why Eris wasn't found before Pluto cos if I remember correctly, it was after Eris was discovered that they decided to rule out Pluto. |
Sokaa!! Interesting application. The sky is their starting point. |
Well, no one should come here condemning Russia. If we appreciated ourselves better, I don't think this would have been made. Besides, it doesn't take time compared to the bleaching cream some rub for months before seeing results. So for all you self-hating dark complexioned humans, this is a better solution than the bleaching cream you patronise. ![]() |
RobinHez:Nope. Japanese words for 'interesting' and 'do your best'. Are you a Naruto fan cos if you're not, you're likely to get initiated into the whole ish. . . ![]() You're the ones to enjoy the school since the VC is from Engineering - Mechanical Engineering precisely. |
RobinHez:Omoshiro i!!! With the way you both contribute to the science section, I'd have thought you were both going for Physics. I presume you both used the time to study more about science related phenomena. Oh well, gambatte!!! |
RobinHez and Teempakguy, are you both writing for the University of Benin? If yes, what course? |
abduljabbar4:So to preach openly is now something good, not minding if you're disturbing your neighbour? Pray tell, aren't there designated places where those who practise their faith are supposed to worship? |
coolitempa:How come most people here confuse y'all for Igbos? How come those from Asaba, some Ikas and some Ukwani people say they are Igbos? What about the Ikwerres - you bear Igbo names and have similar language but claim you aren't Igbos? Please, simply answer this question for me: why do other parts/sections of the country confuse y'all for Igbos? The same cannot be said of the Efik, Annang, Ibibio, Ijaws (I'm not saying they're Igbos oh before someone says I'm laying claim to a people knowing how Nairaland is) etc but the Ikas, Ikwerres and Aniomas. Bear in mind that the Igbos do not force their identity on the above but the above keep denying it. Why is that? PabloAfricanus, I want to make reference to a post you made about Ojukwu not including Delta state in Biafra. Please, where did you get the information from? Does it mean over the years, we have been fed lies about him wanting to take Delta state? Thanks. |
The owner is an agnostic. While I do not agree with the whole ish of them having their section, you should see reasons with the owner. Something happened some years ago that prompted the owner to create that section that stands today. If I remember correctly, I think he was threatened. danielblessing:Ok...so I checked the section, clicked on reply and saw the whole declaration ish. Interesting! Wait a minute! I thought Nairaland had done away with the opinion poll so why is it still there? No wonder madcow1's signature... ![]() |
iiiyyyk:The bolded, very apt. I miss the Nairaland of old where I'll learn a thing or two from the topic. People like manny4life and others having healthy arguments with other economists on this forum. |
Teempakguy:for a lengthy reply eh? ![]() |
Amazing how carbon holds so many positive. The hardest and lightest substance both come from carbon; Japan's Shimizu's mega city pyramid structures are to be made from carbon - carbon nanotubes and are to be self-replicating; and now, light. How much more can we get from this substance carbon? |
Of course, no one likes money... ![]() |
coolebux:Unu abia kwa!!! BTW, why do people say Jesus is the only one to walk on water? Does his disciple - Simon Peter not deserve the praise also albeit it was short? On a light note: Flash and Superman performed the same feat though they both ran... ![]() As they made mention of a robotic insect that walks on water, my mind went straight to water strider; of course, it has to be on the principles of the insect. What's the name of that Jackie Chan movie again? Yeah - The Tuxedo; the first place I heard of the insect. |
