Tayorshd87:The steps to get the economy fixed is about a clear implementable PLAN to make it more productive. You raise fund from corporates and people who earn money and not from impoverished people. The more corporates and people who earn, the better. And more money they earn, the more the money the government gets from taxes. In US, the government makes effort to protect and build stronger economy that will create wealthier corporates and people to support government with taxes. |
mannobi:If this makes you sleep well, I am happy for you. |
Tayorshd87:Therefore it will not be fixed but taxed, abi? SMH |
Alliswell248:If only 60% of revenues that accrued to Lagos was devoted to developing Lagos State, the State would have much sophisticated than it is. It is the same for all the states of the federation. There is so much underperformance and looting across board. |
Image123:I don't do lolz stuff. Look, economy doesn't run on tax. Economy generate sundry revenues including taxes. It government that runs on these revenues including taxes. Fixing the economy is key, bro. |
Tax bills will not make much change if the economy remains in shambles. Why is this difficult for Nigerians to grasp. Why are we wasting time and energy on Tax Bills while inflation is going up, businesses are closing down and people are becoming poorer. - Fixing the economy is more urgent and critical than fixing tax regimes. - Fixing the economy creates more business entities that will pay tax and create employment. - Fixing the economy creates middle class once again that will pay tax and relieves the poor. - Fixing the economic boosts local production, boost export and earning of forex. - Fixing economy strengthens the Naira, creates alternative local goods, empowers more consumption, which increases VAT quantum. Work with states to develop a broad Economic Development Plan will help both the FG and States have sense direction to build prosperous Nigeria. |
Paraman:If you must know and at the risk of going low in tribal mud fight, Ibadan was not and is not more industrialized than Enugu. I have visited Ibadan and Enugu. You haven't crossed River Niger. In fairness, Kaduna had more. However, you have the right to assume anything about any city, if it makes sleep well. It is your democratic right. Again, I will not engage in tribal rat race with you. Not my style. |
Paraman:All these cities you mentioned are in state of industrial inertia as we speak. Nigeria's economy is in shambles. And so far, there is no roadmap from the FG to work with state governments to revive the economy. It's all taxation. The three tiers of government happily share oil money and mutually accuse each other of being lazy. And by the way, I don't do tribal rat race. |
Paraman:Why hasn't Badagry developed? Is economic activities in Ikorodu as a result of State government policies or fall-out of economic, infrastructural and population advantages conferred on Lagos by its former FCT status? |
richmond500:The fact is that no state governor is actually working to develop local economy. None including Lagos, Delta and Rivers you mentioned. All state governors wait, share, share and loot FAAC allocation. Lagos was former capital of Nigeria with ports and other infrastructure put in place by FG. Lagos with all its massive revenue is still not there yet. Delta and Rivers has oil that FG in concert with foreign oil companies are exploiting. Beyond, nothing has been done about marine resources of Delta region. So, don't make it sound as though only Northern governors are lazy. Besides, apart from taxation, what has Tinubu put forward as his plan to diversify and stimulate industrial activities, entrepreneurship and drive local investment? |
Fixing the economy before fixing tax makes more sense. |
No freedom of speech for Prof. Zulum anymore because Tinubu is president? Come on ! |
aribisala0:If you can't discern that my comment is on Atiku's post then you read it with prejudice. |
France has been deliberately hypocritical, wicked and exploitative in dealing with its former colonies turned Francophone African countries. France could have guided these countries to develop politically and economically. They looked up to France after independence but France failed them. France removed any developmental-minded leader who emerged and replaced them with moles to serve French interests. France looked away while these moles and their associates loot national resources and deposit it in France for safekeeping. France should apologize to these countries instead of instigating internal armed conflicts. France should now it's head in shame. |
There is nothing wrong with periodic review and reform of tax regimes. Every country does that. However, in any federation and more so in a democracy, every federating unit is entitled to be selfish in pursuing their interests. Politics is about who gets what, when, how. Therefore, transparency and exhaustive discussions by stakeholders will enhance understanding of the bill, clear doubts and allay fear. It will engender consensus and help to arrive at an acceptable Tax bill, which can always be improved or amended in future to reflect the realities of time. By the way, it is interesting how Tinubu's supporters are crying over Northern opposition to his Tax Bill. They have forgotten how Tinubu under the cloak of opposition frustrated GEJ on removal of petrol subsidy. Karmically speaking, what goes around, comes around. ![]() |

bitsAndpieces:That's why I said tax reforms could be done at any time to reflect the realities of the time. Each of what you said above can be implemented to facilitate ease of doing business while increase of VAT and other such reforms in the face high poverty rate can wait till another time. |
1. Ordinarily, there is nothing bad in introducing tax reforms from time to time to reflect the REALITIES of the time. 2. Basically, taxation involves corporates and individuals paying a portion of their earnings to support government, which made it possible for them to earn. 3. Therefore, the rational thing to do first is for President Tinubu to develop short-term, medium-term and long-term plan to boost the productive capacity of the economy. Unfortunately, doing this looks like a mirage at the moment. Tax Bill without fixing the economy will impoverish Nigerians more. 4. It is when industries, factories, farmers, traders, professionals, etc are functioning well that goods and services are produced and sold and corporates as well as people have money in their pockets that taxation makes sense. You don't put the cat before the horse. 5. Apart from obvious geopolitical reasons, the fact is that introducing Tax Bill is much easier thing to do than fixing the economy. The president chose the easier task. |
The job of undercover journalist is risky but it helps the society to get better. Welcome back Fisayo Soyombo. |
France that could not develop the economy of Francophone countries will not do more than it is currently doing. Mr. President, the best thing to do is to DELIBERATELY develop policy frameworks, specify opportunities and create vital incentives to encourage existing and potential local investors to put money into the various sectors of the economy. Only Nigerians will GENUINELY invest Nigeria, plough profit back and create more wealth. Challenge them vital policies, incentives and other ways of protection and encouragement. |
Revolution. |
Sarki is notoriously inconsistent in his opinions. His mind operates like yo-yo. Don't be surprised if he make a u-turn after some days. Besides, his tweets basically reflect who paid him to do PR for him. |

If Sinach had been performing "Way maker" in churches before it was professionally recorded, it might be difficult for a studio engineer to lay claim to this song. |
Igbo from time are not known to have kings. These overdressed characters who parade themselves as traditional rulers lack spiritual authority to legislate on age-long statutory festivals. |
The biggest disappointment is BAT who, for long, wanted power. Ordinarily, one would have expected him to have studied and documented solution ideas to various sectoral problems of Nigeria. So far, apart from IMF-promoted taxations and removal of subsidies there is no sign of any roadmap to revive Nigeria's economy. He had looooong time to prepare and, so far, it seems he still came unprepared. |
You can't be a preacher all your life and then stop because your fellow man said to you "get the f*ck off my platform". God belongs to all. It is a free world provided no societal, natural or divine is broken. May his new ministry blossom like mustard tree. |
Pursued into Niger Republic or they ran into Niger Republic to sneak in back again? Look until DSS maintain strong network of loyal and dependable informants at strategic border towns, groups like Lukarawa will always sneak into Nigeria first, as Islamic preachers, gain credibility with locals, and then introduce their guns for coercion. Collecting intels and staying ahead are key against terrorism. |
Love him or hate him, David Hundeyin is a proper coconut head. Strong as it comes. Every progressive society needs more of David Hundeyin and VDM than it needs of conformists who would easily kowtow before oppressors or clowns who dance for daily meals at oppressor's palace. |
The current APC administration won't take Nigeria anywhere forward. However, the opposition seems to not appreciate that Nigeria needs an urgent rescue with a properly researched and articulated roadmap to lay a new economic foundation for Nigeria. I pray they wake up, make compromises and agree on a good candidate. |
That he didn't boldly mention the name of the alleged scammer shows his story is not completely true. It is one-sided. There must something that happened that he is not revealing. After all Ben Bruce isn't a greenhorn in business to transfer such huge amount without due diligence process. |
The power of friendship and entrepreneurship made Flamini a billionaire. While still a professional footballer, a friend pitched a business idea to him. Not knowing exactly what the business was, technically speaking, he just decided to put in money trusting his friend. That move gave to birth to highly successful GFBiochemicals. Well, not a bad decision, after all! |
