Sports › FABIO CAPELLO Accused Of Allowing Victor Moses To Slip Through England by ffo(op): 9:10am On Nov 10, 2012
England missed out on a potential world-beater, according to Roberto Martinez, after Fabio Capello let Victor Moses slip through the net and pledge his international allegiance to Nigeria.

The Wigan manager twice called Capello to outline Moses’ rich potential and eagerness to represent his adopted country England, rather than Nigeria, where he was born.

But the 21-year old winger, snapped up by Chelsea for £9million in August, abandoned his dream in exasperation after being called up for an Under 21 international at Doncaster but failing to make the final 16.

Nigeria’s gain is England’s loss, according to Martinez, who said: ‘Victor is a quite unique player. When you work with him you realise he is not a normal footballer, not a typical modern winger.

‘He is an old-fashioned type of winger, with incredible raw talent that allows him to go past people. He brings real penetration to the wide positions. Teams are so well set-up tactically these days that you need players who can bring something different, and they don’t appear that often.

‘Victor is that type, though. Even if you look at the great footballing cultures, like Spain and Holland, you see that players of this type are very rare. Victor could have been a real weapon for any team in world football.

‘His experience with the Under 21s was frustrating for him, and for us, because, from our point of view, we could see he was something special. He offers something very different.

‘Football is a matter of opinions, so there is no right or wrong over whether he should have been tied to England. But it is difficult to find players like him, not just in England, and I am sure he could have adapted to anything.

‘If he continues to have the same impact at Chelsea, he will get plenty of chances to show his talent. He is ready to compete at that level and show what he is about.

‘It is no surprise to see him playing at the highest level, and you have to remember he is still a very young man in football terms. He is going to be as good as he wants to be. You just have to admire his mentality. Nothing fazes him, and the best is yet to come, that is for sure.’

Politics › Justice Akomaye Agim- Chief Justice Of Gambia Apointed As Appeal Court Of Gambia by ffo(op): 1:26pm On Nov 06, 2012
Yesterday, Monday November 5th, the issue of state of origin came to the fore as Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Maryam Aloma Mukhtar, declined to administer oath of office on one of the newly appointed justices of the Appeal Court.

The decision of the CJN was sequel to a petition challenging the state of origin declared by the judge, Ifeoma Jombo-Ofo, who was nominated under a slot reserved for Abia State.

NEW APPEAL COURT JUDGES: Cross Section Of The Newly Appointed Justices Of The Court of Appeal, During Their Swearing-in Ceremony By The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Mariam Mukhtar, At The Supreme Court in Abuja, Yesterday.

Consequently, only 11 Justices were sworn-in yesterday, including Justice Emmanuel Akomaye Agim who has been the Chief Justice of Gambia since 2009.

The petitioners contended that though Justice Jombo-Ofo is currently serving under the Abia State judiciary, she lacks the requisite locus to take a slot meant for the state since she was originally from Anambra State, notwithstanding the fact that she is married to a man from Abia State.

The embattled judge, who was asked to vacate the row reserved for the new justices, shortly before the swearing-in ceremony commenced at the Supreme Court auditorium yesterday, was said to have transferred her service from Anambra to Abia State after her marriage.

She was called to Bar in 1979 and appointed a High Court Judge on November 4, 1998, and has since remained in the Abia State judiciary.

The Abia state governor had written a letter to the CJN last Saturday, confirming the state of origin of Justice Jumbo-Ofo, noting that she has been in the Abia State judiciary for the past 14 years.

According to a source at the apex court, Governor Orji in his letter to the CJN stressed that it was in recognition of her meritorious service to the state, that his government, nominated her for elevation to the appellate court, even as he urged the CJN to disregard the petition.

Despite Orji’s intervention, the CJN refused to be dragged into the existing controversy and went ahead to step-down the swearing-in of Justice Ifeoma Jombo-Ofo.

Politics › Vigilante Members In Police Custody Over Death Of Student by ffo(op): 9:35pm On Oct 25, 2012
Chairman and members of a vigilante group in Mararaba-Udege in Udege Development Area of Nasarawa State are currently in police custody after they were arrested for allegedly killing a 25-year old student, who they accused of stealing a motorcycle.

A statement by the police command’s spokesman, Cornelius Ocholi, said yesterday that the decomposed body of late Rukoma Johnson, who was a Chemical Engineering student of Federal Polytechnic, Nasarawa, was recovered in a thick forest in Onda Wayo village by a team of detectives.

The statement said investigation revealed that men of the vigilante group killed the student and dumped his body in the forest, after passing a summary verdict on him.

The statement added that the deceased was killed along Agwada-Onda Wayo road on October 2, while he was travelling to see an in-law.

“Our team of detectives recovered the charred remains of late Rukom Dapo Johnson in a thick forest located in Mararaba Udege. The brief facts of this case are that on October 2, the victim, Rukoma Dapo Johnson, was arrested by members of vigilante in Mararaba Udege Area. He was alleged to have being in possession of a stolen motorcycle. The victim and one Sani Onga Osu, who claimed to be the bonafide owner of the motorcycle were taken to the house of the chairman, one Azuma Okah, to adjudicate the case. The said chairman found the victim guilty of the offence. Therefore he passed his verdict, which was death. Late Rukom Dapo Johnson was not given the opportunity to appeal against the death sentence. The chairman of vigilante group, Alhaji Azuma Okah and Ali Onga, Onda Tukura, Gaiya Sani, Okpo Sani, Madaki Ebagune, Ibrahim Agewu a.k.a Olu Kerka, not only stoned the victim to death, but also burnt the corpse beyond recognition”, the statement added.

The spokesman further stated that the commissioner of police in the state, Abayomi Akeremale, has condemned the action of the vigilante group, describing it as “dastard and barbaric”.

“He therefore warned vigilante groups and private security outfits who have no formal training and statutory backing to desist from taking laws into their hands, or face the wrath of the law”, the statement said, adding that, “meanwhile, the commissioner has directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in-charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Lafia. ACP Ibrahim Tarfa, to ensure that suspects arrested in connection with the incident face the full wrath of the law.”

Taraba state Gov. Danbaba Suntai was involved in a plane crash in neighbouring Adamawa state Thursday evening.

A source at the Adamawa Government House however told Daily Trust that the governor is not dead as widely reported. The source however confirmed that the governor sustained injuries and was immediately evacuated to a hospital.

Reports from various sources earlier Thursday evening from Adamawa state however said the governor died in the crash, though two others in the craft survived.

There has been no official statement yet to confirm or deny the speculations on his condition.

An aircraft he was personally piloting crashed this evening at the Yola International Airport in neighbouring Adamawa state.

OP.
i have a question 4 you and all those who support cohabiting b4 marriage. But dis question is only applicable to you if your parents are still together (not separated or divorced) i.e not from a broken home!

DID YOUR PARENTS COHABIT BEFORE THEY GOT MARRIED?

if no! WHAT IS KEEPING THEM TOGETHER SINCE THEY DIDN'T HAVE ENOUGH "TIME" TO STUDY EACH OTHER (COHABIT) BEFORE MARRIAGE?
