BroZuma:yeah, real funny. I was imagining guys hanging around somewhere in a war zone then they hear, "fat man!!!" and everyone scatters in different directions.. |

newafricaken254:KDF should form some kind of think tank made of people like her and also from various intelligence departments who would formulate relevant policy that guides how the military approaches a certain situations, there work would be to look at the bigger picture, smaller picture... Then come up with a robust plan that will take care of every eventuality, so that war doesn't leave ppl in worse situation than they were b4 (like what's happening in Middle East, one war just led to another, and another now no one recognizes the place anymore) I've just heard US F/A 18E has taken down a syrian Su-22 after it fired on US backed rebels.. |

Where are all the Nigerians with there 'Kenya again' mantra..or 'Kenya and weird news be like...' |
freshest4live:Honesty is not expected in a thread like this(Country A vs Country B) , people will tend to downplay their weaknesses and highlight achievements while at the same time highlighting their opponents shortcomings and ignoring their strengths... Its human nature |

obaaderemi:Managing public enterprises and also maintaining infrastructure or quality of service, that's Africa's downfall, politicians will fight over something, people with conflict of interest will be given authority, sooner or later something will die a slow and quiet death.... Some people say Kenya's only refinery died slowly because politicians or businessmen with influence in the oil tanker and shipment business saw that they could make more money importing refined petroleum directly instead of government importing crude oil, refining it then selling it to local oil suppliers ... So they came together put there influence and made sure the refinery dies off poor management and lack of repaires then sell it when it was too damaged that it will be more expensive to repairs than building a new one... THAT IS AFRICA FOR YOU |
Muafrika2:let him learn... But tell him nothing said online is really real, so never let anything get in is head... School is important! |
obaaderemi:Well that is bound to change on Kenya airways... The government of Kenya will now onwn 40%, while a conglomerate of Kenyan banks will own about 20%, if KLM doesn't invest more more above $100 M their shareholding will automatically fall to below 14% .. But Kenya govt is keen not to be the outright majority shareholder, Even though they own majority of shares, they have refused to sign a legal document that gives then the right to Take over management of the company by virtue of being the largest shareholder... They want KQ to be run as a private company with no interference from govt

iblawi:I myself have once quoted some article that quoted some figure, but it was just one figure from one article... Its hard to believe if it comes from just a single online source... What am looking for is complete break down of the most common things that one can use to know what type of rail you are building and what purpose it was mainly intended for. Anyway, your country is not hurting me financially, physically.... Therefore I, have no energy nor time to hate Nigeria or any other country for that matter, and if there comes a time that your country did hurt me, I would probably hate my government more than I hate you.. So please spare me |
MtuMsuper:I was looking for details of nigerian SGR from official sources but couldn't find any... Am starting to think Nigerians are sketchy when it comes to facts/details... Does anyone have details of Nigeria SGR .... Things like tonnage capacity per year.. Maximum axle load.. The standard used.. Future provisions eg electrification Number of bridges or tunnels Cost per km on each phase Expected cargo that will be handled by the rail...etc |
AkoniMoipei:The whole city is to be developed in 4 phases over a period of 20 years so am guessing easch phase is 5 years so phase one is somewhere in 2020..... the project was delayed at first due to a land row between two counties each claimed lapset HQ sits on its side of the border, but all land rows have been resolved and construction started in 2016... at later stages when it takes of, the constructions of phases will be done concurently depending on the demand and investment |
... |
mtis:1 and 2nd pic: Its part of phase one of Konza city construction 3rd pic: is somewhere in that space 4th : the phase one masterplan 5th pic is the complete masterplan, its one hell of a planned city
|
genieluv:If you read about Konza technopolis, you will understand that Konza is more about the idea (ideology) than physical space, thats why their motto is "Where Africas Silicon Savanna Begins", already some of the objectives of what Konza seeks to achieve are already becoming a reality even before the city gets finished, IBM, Nokia, Philips, Qualcom have already built research labs in Kenya to use local talent to further RnD in some of there products......... Anyway, the initial investment in Eko is $6Billion, for Konza is $14.5B Centenary is $18B so their you have it... But first understand what each city seeks to achieve, one city might with little investment might bring more to the GDP than the one with the major investment... For example you might find in future Eko contributes more to the economy than Cenetary.... Eko may be at advance stage but Konza too is not asleep Construction for the HQ has been ongoing on the last two pics, from the renders and from satelite image of the actual progress you can see they are following the plan exactly like on the blueprint
|
genieluv:Lapsset is an acronym for Lamu Port-South Sudan-Ethiopia-Transport ...coridor, Its Kenyas quest to open up a second transport coriddor... The initial cost was $23B but a couple of new highways were added, also they decided Lamu would be built into a city for 1Million residents, so the cost shot up to $29.3 billion or approximately $30B... It includes a rew rail, oil pipeline for crude and refined oil, a refinery, new roads, all of these connected to the new port in Lamu.. Pic 1 .This was the first breakdown before they added other stuff pic 2. Overall project map pic 3, the pipeline evacuating crude oil from South sudan, then refining it and exporting to ethiopia and kenya and excess to outside kenya pic 4 the highway to Ethiopia 99.9% complete, they are now doing the joint border post for faster clearance of goods.. pic 5, the first 3 berths at lamu are 20% complete

edoyad:I could give you a list, but You don't measure the quality of education in a country by picking out a few known scholars who have won awards in academics... there are thousands of groundbreaking research that have been useful in africa and the world especially on primates(research on viral diseases such as ebola,merburg.... ), medicines(malaria, tuberculosis, HIV) and also in agriculture especially diseases affecting crops from Kenyan scientist... Just search for scholarly articles about diseases in Africa and see if in every 5 articles you find from africa atleast one will be from a kenyan institute http://apanews.net/en/news/kenya-research-results-show-ebola-vaccine-on-trial-to-be-safe https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenya_Medical_Research_Institute Anyway that too doesnt really prove much for the whole country, what would indicated better education system for the whole country is things like average school enrollment rate, government school budget per child, teacher to student ratio, literacy rates, ...... In short for an average family taking their kid to an average public school between the two countries, who has the better chance of actually learning something? On the internet thing, well, it only proves my point, the internet is a vast place, If I had crappy internet i would never have found my way to a nigerian site... If you have never seen a Kenyan website then thats your loss, I have seen SA forum, Egyptian, hell at one time I was having a debate with people from Bangladesh on a Pakistani forum about their local defence industries..... Last year i the last quater of 2016, Kenya for the first time surpassed Israel on average internet speed on ipv4 networks , Kenya now has the firstes internet speed in Middle East and Africa ...... Each yera the speed have been increasing tremendously, the fiber optics were first connected to universities, then commercial enterprises, then all the 47 county HQs now we are awaiting the last phase were they plan to start connecting fibre in individual homes, already power utility company Kenya power has started replacing some of its power cables in major residential areas with special power cables that pass electricity and at the same time have a fiber optic line running through so that power comes with internet!! Right now Kenya is number 23 globally in internet speed at 15Mbps the top ten are 1. South Korea: 26.1Mbps 2. Norway: 23.6Mbps 3. Sweden: 22.817.3Mbps 4. Hong Kong: 21.9Mbps 5. Switzerland: 21.23Mbps 6. Denmark: 20.7Mbps 7. Finland 20.6Mbps 8. Singapore: 20.2Mbps 9. Japan: 19.6Mbps 10. Netherlands: 17.6Mbps Then we have countries like UK, US, France, Germany, Italy...... closing up top 20, then Kenya at number 23..... Its only a matter of time before we take them down, why do you think we are building a research technology hub called Konza techopolis ![]()
|
edoyad:Yet Kenya has better education, better healthcare, better internet connectivity, better access to .... In short higher HDI |
iblawi:built 122 years, Voi stopped bieng a commercial center thus the station dint find use |
arinzeejikonye:Stadiums, than one you can take, but performance on sports and games that's a topic for another day |
mtis:Hahaha funny.. Here we don't have much interms of minerals so we make due with what is available in nature... We have a conservation saying "a wildlife animal is worth more alive than dead"
|
adamskutty:Eko is 24kmsq, Konza is 50km2.... But that should t matter, what should matter is the effects of the cities, and as far as I know Konza is in its own category, its far more valuable than most new cities bieng built in Africa... Monza wont be just some other 'commercial city or industrial city' this is a city built for one purpose only, research and innovation! This will be a place where you are not hindered you are free to think and innovate, all the necessary infrastructure will be there, if you want a billion dollar particle accelerator to study matter, you will have it.... It will have universities just for advance research only..that kind of thing.... |
More bridges for wildlife.....

68816419:Locomotives too cost relatively the same amount. So as a country you can always by new locomotives after a few years, for example Kenya plans to buy new locos by 2020 when the track gets electrified by then theire will be enough power., so thats not that important. The most important aspect of a sgr is the tracks period.. And as far as track is concerened, Building embankment and bridges is the most expensive, Ethiopia has a rough terrain, but they chose their rail to pass though carfully thought out terrains while staying on the ground... While in Kenya, The terrain for the first phase was challenging but not that rough relatively speaking, but on the kenyan side, environmental concerens were given highest priority, thats why Kenya has 30km of brisges while Ethiopia SGR has 18km of bridges, thats half of kenyas bridges.. Then the real reason why Ethiopia (and by extension Nigeria ) rail is cheaper per km is because the ethiopian line was build to lower capacity.... The Ethiopian rail was built to class 2 chinese standards while Kenya Rail was built to class 1 standards.... The Ethiopia rail is cheaper BUT is designed to handle a Maximum of 20 Million tonnes per annaum, it can only carry single stacked containers. WHile The Kenyan rail is a heavy rail built using heavier steel, it can carry upwards of 35Million tonnes per anum, It can carries double stacked containers or pull 216TEU per train with a load of 4000tonnes So can you give us the details of axle-load of the Nigeria SGR, whats the maximum tonnage the rail can support? cause from this article it seems to sujjest only 880t per train The travel time between Abuja and Kaduna will be reduced to one hour and each passenger train can carry up to 5,000 commuters.Seems like your rail was designed with carrying persengers in mind, while ours was designed with bulk cargo in mind. Kenya SGR capacity These passenger locos will usher Kenya into in a new era, it is the backbone of our future long-distance transport system, linking up more and more, towns, cities and countries,” said Maina, adding the line will significantly cut journey times between Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda.Kenya bought 56 Locomotives, of the 56 only 5 locomotives are for passengers, the rest are for cargo, so its clear that freight will be the main business and thats why a heavier and more expensive rail was needed look at some of the bridges, some terrains were rough bu in these pictures, you can see that other bridges were build on flat terrain, this was just to allow wildlife to pass through and not hinder their migration routes, thats it, all those bridges just for wildlife

68816419:The first phase the lapsset project (3 berths in Lamu) are already 20% complete, fully funded by the government of Kenya the coast is $500 Million, plus over 300km of roads to connect to the port already built, the last kilometers will reach Lamu by the time the berths are complete.. money for the $2B 960MW lamu coal powerplant aready made available, plus feasibility study for the $2B 1000MW high grand falls damn that will supply the lapsset Lamu city with power and water is ongoing.. Remember the lapsset project is mostly in north and north-east of Kenya, our north east is just like your nigerian north east, terrorism from Somalia, but still, the biggest project in the history of Kenya is going there.. on Konza, they have already laid underground power cables, currently they are building the Headquaters for the agency that will be incharge of konza city...... A project like the $14B Konza city is not a fully funded government project, Just like those new cities you want or are building in Nigeria, they are bieng built on PPP model, e.g for Konza, the government will take care of infrastructure i.e. Water, Power, Fibre optic, planning, legislation then the private sector (Local and foreign) will now set up light industries, universities, headquaters, research institutes, and then the through this environment is when they expect local talent to be natured and create more industries and advance the development of the country, so the government will probably contribute like $4Billion to Konza, the rest will be done by the vibrant private sector that exists in Kenya |
Marcelo290:The combined population (about 130 million) of all those countries that transit cargo goes to through the mombasa port is not more than the population of Nigeria alone (180 million) .. Besides its not like Nigerian ports don't handle cargo for landlocked countries such as Niger and Chad |
Kenyanstar:Lamu port will have 32 berths not 10 http://www.lapsset.go.ke/projects/lamu-port/ |
