unavailability of Jobs for graduates was not a thing in the 1970's, so I believe it became a thing in the 80's.
When exactly did it become entrenched and a pervasive accepted standard?
I just would really like to know.

Well, let's agree it started when supply of graduates don dey pass demands (Jobs). And we tend to have a bandwagon approach to opportunities, fish farming, make up artistry craze, tech boom, poultry farming, crypto, MMM and japa. We tend to oversupply most of the time thereby quickly saturating available opportunities.

If i have the means, I take my chances... Naija doesn't reward hard work and merit anymore.

Had this been the norm since the eighties or 90's? Or it became a standardised norm in the 2000s with Obasanjo's democracy coming

Nigeria have this middle man culture since before the 1914 marriage of protectorates i.e Opobo blocking the British from accessing the interior. In present times, our government unknowingly or knowingly created avenues for arbitrage in most sectors of the economy, FX rates, petrol subsidy, job racketeering etc.

A friend came to me yesterday, he wanted to sell his house to relocate to Canada. He is 42+ yrs. He is assured of a tourist visa that will cost him 1.8m excluding ticket.

He wants to know if it is worth it considering his age. Also he is afraid that if he sells his house in Ilorin (a new site) and the things go south what will happen.

Another thing he is assured is that his visa can be extended before expiration. He wants to know whether he can truly work with a tourist visa of 5 yrs and whether his visa can be extended.

most countries don't allow working on a tourist visa, this is a risky move! In the USA, a tourist/B1B2 Holder can't interact with most social amenities while a student can easily integrate.

OP's advice is more adaptably to western society where women have equal opportunities as men. In a naija setting, it's a trap!! Most will end up as whocup hawkers.

Most People mock me, but I got married.

We had a baby last year, a corona baby.

I am not ashamed to say that at my age, I am still a mummy's boy and she is my number one but I respect my wife.

When I wanted to marry, my wife Never agreed to having a house close to my mum's place.

I got angry and slapped her twice. When she saw that I was really angry she begged me.

So we went and saw her we are all happy and settled all.

As my child reached 10 month, I told her to tell her mum to go because she's now strong almost to walk.

Her mum left but my mum wanted to come and spend the holiday as she had never done that since she delivered .

When I told my wife, her facial expression changed. When my mum came i travelled but she didnt cook for her but heat soup that was in the freezer to give her.

My mum hated that and she called me crying that what she did to her she won't do to her own mum .

I pretended nothing happened as I got back I bought things from a eatry for family so my mum left after 2 weeks.

I brought up the issue and she said nothing wrong in giving her food kept in the freezer that she gave same to her mum too .

I got angry and beat her up. I didnt injure her. all and some other thing . I love my wife I cant be beating her all the time she promise to change yet nothing. Because of bad character I refuse to take her to eatry.

I used BMW x5 3.0i 6 plug for uber for like 1 month, i end up losing times 2 of the money i earned through fuel consumption and repairing, i buy at least 9000naira daily on petrol, i just pack it at home, better to be sleeping, I'm trying to sell the car and buy a Toyota corolla, but selling it is not easy and money to add to it after selling it is not available presently, don't know what to do sef

I am currently teaching in a private school just to get busy prior to NYSC. The teacher's average salary in N25,000 but I was able to compel the school's admin to increase mine to N30,000. Everyday I wonder how teachers cope. Over 60% of the teachers are over 35 years and married. With the way the male teachers put on ironed long sleeve and tie, you will think they are rich. There is one old teacher who only eats crackers biscuit as lunch because that's what he can afford, while some don't even eat lunch. Some teachers have been working in the school for over 6 years and their salary still remains the same. God punish poverty!

Most of this private school owners keep the married ones in check with discounts on their children school fees and occasional small gifts. Private school owners they're like gnld people!

The truth is whichever level you find yourself you will survive one way or the other. When I was earning N30,000 not too long ago I was surviving. I was a single parent with one daughter but we were managing somehow. I had neighbors who had wives and up to three kids earning the same salary and they were coping too. With that salary your desires are instinctively put in check. I didn't have a television, DVD player, home theater and so many furniture and I didn't bother. It didn't even cross my mind that I needed them because the money no even dey to buy them even if I wanted. I didn't have deep freezer or fridge or even gas burners. I just made do with basic cooking utensils and kept my mattress on the floor.

It was when my salary began to increase that I began to buy other items. Just take life jeje and everything will fall in place.

This is so me around 2016/17. Held a job as a KFC doorman for 15k. I didn't even bother about any furniture at that point na just to try dey survive.
