Stereotypes: It’s always good to carry out holistic evaluation before typing or commentating. Saves you from making embarrassing comments. How can someone who is illegal travel out of a country and be allowed the re-enter the country? If the woman is his dependant, she can never enter Spain unless the man consents to it. 2fine2fast: I beg to differ on a comment you made. To make an article open access, most journals (even highly rated journals) will charge you what is called Article Processing Charge. This cost is usually borne by the the body that funded the research. What this means is that anyone can access the paper without subscription. Journals make money from subscription (I am sure you know this) which cost universities and organisations thousands of dollars. In addition, the issue of open source or not only comes into play when your publication has been peer reviewed and accepted. You have the right to decline, which is an option most researchers without funding take (you can always apply for a waiver if you have strong justification why you should not be charged for open access). I have attached the open access page on Sage to buttress my point. So, lets criticise objectively. I concur with every other thing you mentioned. More importantly, I have no affiliation whatsoever with the author. Cheers! https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/sage-choice-faqs 1 Like 1 Share

A lot of people are missing the point. It is not only white people that travel. Most citizens of developed countries travel because they do not have to go through the rigours of applying for a visa. Someone holding an American passport can travel to practically all countries in the world for at least two weeks and would only be required to obtain a visa at point of entry. An average Englishman can wake up and decide I am going to to Tenerife. All he needs to do is get his passport, pick up his credit/debit card, take the train to the airport, buy his and off he goes. Whereas a Nigerian would need to plan, apply for visa, wait like 8 weeks and still get rejected ♂️ after paying so much. Africa na suffer 3 Likes |
Foreign Affairs / 44 Suspected Boko Haram Members Found Dead In Chad Prison by figel(f): 12:36pm On Apr 19, 2020 |
A group of 44 suspected members of Boko Haram who had been arrested in Chad during a recent operation against the jihadist group have been found dead in their prison cell, apparently poisoned, Chad’s chief prosecutor has announced. Speaking on national television on Saturday, Youssouf Tom said the prisoners were found dead on Thursday. Autopsies on four dead prisoners revealed traces of a lethal substance which had caused heart attacks in some victims and severe asphyxiation in others, he said. The dead men were among a group of 58 suspects captured during a major army operation around Lake Chad launched by the president, Idriss Déby Itno, at the end of March. “Following the fighting around Lake Chad, 58 members of Boko Haram had been taken prisoner and sent to [the capital city] N’Djamena for the purposes of the investigation. On Thursday morning, their jailers told us that 44 prisoners had been found dead in their cell,” Tom said, adding that he had attended the scene. “We have buried 40 bodies and sent four bodies to the medical examiner for autopsy.” An investigation was ongoing to determine exactly how the prisoners had died, he said. Earlier this week, the justice minister, Djimet Arabi, told AFP the captured men had been handed over to the court system on Wednesday, and had been due in court for trial on Thursday. A security source, speaking on condition of anonymity told AFP that “the 58 prisoners were placed in a single cell and were given nothing to eat or drink for two days”. Mahamat Nour Ahmed Ibedou, secretary general of the Chadian Convention for the Protection of Human Rights (CTDDH), made similar accusations. Prison officials had “locked the prisoners in a small cell and refusing them food and water for three days because they were accused of belonging to Boko Haram,” Ibedou told AFP. “It’s horrible what has happened.” The government denied the allegations. “There was no ill-treatment,” Chad’s justice minister, Djimet Arabi, told AFP by telephone. “Toxic substances were found in their stomachs. Was it collective suicide or something else? We’re still looking for answers,” he said, adding that the investigation was still ongoing. One of the prisoners was transferred to hospital on Thursday, but he was “faring much better” and had rejoined “the other 13 prisoners still alive and who are doing very well,” the minister said. The military operation against Boko Haram killed more than a thousand of the group’s militants and cost the lives of 52 soldiers, a Chadian army spokesman said. The operation ran from 31 March to 8 April. It was launched in response to a devastating attack on Chadian troops on 23 March on a base at Bohoma, in the Lake Chad marshlands, which killed 98 soldiers. It was the largest-ever one-day loss suffered by the army. Idriss warned his allies in the region that Chad’s army will no longer take part in operations outside the country. https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/apr/18/44-suspected-boko-haram-members-found-dead-in-chad-prison?utm_term=RWRpdG9yaWFsX0d1YXJkaWFuVG9kYXlVS19XZWVrZW5kLTIwMDQxOQ%3D%3D&utm_source=esp&utm_medium=Email&CMP=GTUK_email&utm_campaign=GuardianTodayUK |
Romance / Covid-19 Rules From Politicians And Researchers by figel(f): 10:37pm On Apr 18, 2020 |
The rules goes thus for those in the UK and USA These are as follows; 1. Basically, you can't leave the house for any reason, but if you have to, then you can. 2. Masks are useless, but maybe you have to wear one, it can save you, it is useless, but maybe it is mandatory as well. 3. Stores are closed, except those that are open. 4. You should not go to hospitals unless you have to go there. Same applies to doctors, you should only go there in case of emergency, provided you are not too sick. 5. This virus is deadly but still not too scary, except that sometimes it actually leads to a global disaster. 6. Gloves won't help, but they can still help. 7. Everyone needs to stay HOME, but it's important to GO OUT. 8. There is no shortage of groceries in the supermarket, but there are many things missing when you go there in the evening, but not in the morning. Sometimes. 9. The virus has no effect on children except those it affects. 10. Animals are not affected, but there is still a cat that tested positive in Belgium in February when no one had been tested, plus a few tigers here and there… 11. You will have many symptoms when you are sick, but you can also get sick without symptoms, have symptoms without being sick, or be contagious without having symptoms. Oh, my.. 12. In order not to get sick, you have to eat well and exercise, but eat whatever you have on hand and it's better not to go out, well, but no… 13. It's better to get some fresh air, but you get looked at very wrong when you get some fresh air, and most importantly, you don't go to parks or walk. But don’t sit down, except that you can do that now if you are old, but not for too long or if you are pregnant (but not too old). 14. You can't go to retirement homes, but you have to take care of the elderly and bring food and medication. 15. If you are sick, you can't go out, but you can go to the pharmacy. 16. You can get restaurant food delivered to the house, which may have been prepared by people who didn't wear masks or gloves. But you have to have your groceries decontaminated outside for 3 hours. Pizza too? 17. Every disturbing article or disturbing interview starts with " I don't want to trigger panic, but…" 18. You can't see your older mother or grandmother, but you can take a taxi and meet an older taxi driver. 19. You can walk around with a friend but not with your family if they don't live under the same roof. 20. You are safe if you maintain the appropriate social distance, but you can’t go out with friends or strangers at the safe social distance. 21. The virus remains active on different surfaces for two hours, no, four, no, six, no, we didn't say hours, maybe days? But it takes a damp environment. Oh no, not necessarily. 22. The virus stays in the air - well no, or yes, maybe, especially in a closed room, in one hour a sick person can infect ten, so if it falls, all our children were already infected at school before it was closed. But remember, if you stay at the recommended social distance, however in certain circumstances you should maintain a greater distance, which, studies show, the virus can travel further, maybe. 23. We count the number of deaths but we don't know how many people are infected as we have only tested so far those who were "almost dead" to find out if that's what they will die of… 24. We have no treatment, except that there may be one that apparently is not dangerous unless you take too much (which is the case with all medications). Copied This Covid-19 is driving everyone |
Health / China China Signals End To Dog Meat Consumption By Humans by figel(f): 10:12am On Apr 10, 2020 |
The Chinese government has signalled an end to the human consumption of dogs, with the agriculture ministry today releasing a draft policy that would forbid canine meat. Citing the “progress of human civilisation” as well as growing public concern over animal welfare and prevention of disease transmission from animals to humans, China’s Ministry of Agricultural and Rural Affairs singled out canines as forbidden in a draft “white list” of animals allowed to be raised for meat. https://amp.theguardian.com/environment/2020/apr/09/china-signals-end-to-dog-meat-consumption-by-humans Seems bats and mice are still allowed. |
Travel / Re: General UK Visa Enquiries - Part 4 by figel(f): 10:40pm On Aug 27, 2019 |
My mum wants to re-apply for a visitor visa to visit me in the UK and I need a bit of advice on how to go about it. My mum is 65 years old and she has previously applied for a 6 months visitor visa to the UK and she did not over stay. She travelled last in 2012. She is a pensioner and her pension is about 50K. The previous visa's were also approved after she retired, but she used to do a lot of business back then and her accounts were well maintained. At the moment, she does just very petty business so she does not stay idle. Its more like affiliate marketing, I am not sure I would want her to mention that in her account. Right now, she has no dependent and my dad arguments her. The issue I am trying to avoid is "funds packing". She loaned me some money in the past and I returned the money last 2 months. I have told him to write a letter on his company letter headed paper stating that he is funding the trip and to show good faith he has transferred the money to her account. What else should I do? She has about about 500K in her account over the 12 months which came in from her affiliate marketing business. The total money i sent to her is about 800k. Please, how should I handle the situation? 1 Like |

Hi Guys, Apologies if my question seems naive. Please I am making an application to Canada for my sibling and I have a bit of a challenge. She only has O'Level result. Her secondary school is no longer opened and there is no way she can get a transcript. Is transcript very important for the college admission and visa application? Thank you |

AbaGuyMan: Yes partial payment is possible. But the balance must reflect in your statement of account with your maintenance expenses to get your visa. Once you get your visa, to fully register at the University, you have to pay 50% tuition and arrange an instalment to pay the balance. |

larion: Sorry for my late reply. Some were screen grabs while others i printed from email. I had over 1500 screen grabs for whatsapp alone (1 year chat history), so i had to crop each picture with microsoft word and put like 4 on a page (this took a while). After i got tired, i Just complimented the grabs with the email version. In terms of authenticity, i don't think that is your concern. The marriage certificate, wedding pictures and all other life events are the most important documents. The chats just shows that the relationship is subsisting. I hope you have your chats for a very long period (between 4 - 12 months). Trust me, no one will go through 100s of pages of chats (time is money in UK) the officer will probably just check a few pages for consistency as long as he/she does not have any reason to doubt other supporting documents. If you got your call logs, include them too. Make sure that when you are going to TLS, make coloured copies of all your pictures and documents to A4 size. Also be careful with the TLS staff. Some of them can be very annoying and lazy. Don't let them put you in a hurry. Make sure all your documents are scanned and carefully watch what they are doing. Don't let their inefficiency cost you your visa (scanning over 900 pages of different documents can get daunting) As for my letters, i am presently on a trip and I do not have them on my personal computer as my hubby drafted and couriered them to me. Once i'm back to my based, I will help you out with that. Hope this helps? Best of luck |

narpheesarh: To my best of knowledge, it is not necessary. You can show it to prove your husband has a place of abode. It is only necessary if that is where you and your husband will be staying and the accommodation is suitable for married couple. If it is not suitable for a married couple, just ensure that your hubby states on the invitation letter that once your entry permit is granted you will make arrangements for a suitable accommodation. |

oieda: The introduction letter is to introduce your wife. The content should include when and where you guys got married, prove that your marriage is subsisting and continuing. It basically depends on your situation. Its just a letter to explain your relationship with your wife and also explain the documents you are attaching to the application package like wedding pictures, naming ceremony pictures since you have a child, other pictures to show that your relationship is genuine, birth certificate of your child, etc. As for the invitation letter, introduce yourself by stating you name, school and passport no. It should state your wife's name and her passport no. and that you want her to join you in the UK for the reminder of your study. You should also include that you are going to sponsor her throughout her stay in the UK if the money is in your account. You state where you live and that she would be living there with you. If where you live is not suitable for a married couple, include in the letter that as soon as her entry permit is granted, you will arrange suitable accommodation. Hope this helps...best of luck |
