huxley: It is good that U have some books to read but it would be much better to also have the mind to critique what U read. I would read that when I have the time and I would get back to you about what I think. huxley: That is the biggest misconception about Darwinism made by most proponents of the theory of evolution. What U call transitional forms have been shown time and again to be separate animals that have even co-existed with some of the so-called modern day animals. How can U tell me jellyfish developed into starfish and star fish into Fish and Fish into reptile and then reptiles into mammals when there is evidence that a star fish, jellyfish and even a dragon fly all coexisted together co-and that the morphological and phenotypical attributes of these animals had remained the same over a million years. And I seriously hope that U are not confusing extinction with evolution. Those are two separate terms and cant be used interchangeably. Fossils have shown me that life forms can become extinct and not that one life form morphed into another as Darwin purports. huxley: Ok, I would take U back to Darwin's claims. He states that life forms GRADUALLY evolved from one life form to another and for his theory to be right (Darwin admitted as much) that there has to be intermediate forms. The pre cambrian era is one of the earliest era known to man and so far , I agree with U, no life forms have been found on pre-cambrian rocks other than unicellular organisms. However, all of a sudden there was burst of VERY DIVERSE MULTICELLULAR ORGANISMS in what scientists called the Cambrian explosion. Life forms found included Jellyfish, star fish, snails and each of these creatures possessed very complex structures similar to their modern day descendants. The Cambrian period have been estimated to be about 530 million yrs old and the fact that there have not been changes made to these creatures over that period of time calls the theory of evolution to question. To put this into context, I would leave U with a Charles Darwin quote that I copied from a website If numerous species belonging to the same genera or families, have really started life all at once the fact would be fatal to the theory of descent which depends on SLOW MODIFICATION through natural selection. (Charles Darwin, OP, cit) His fear was confirmed when the Cambrian explosion was described. huxley:Never did I state in any of my posts that I am the Creator nor do I have the powers to explain everything so I really dont know why U asking me that question. U think that is bizarre. Well , I got news for , Hux, there are even more bizarre thingies in this world than ur freaking marsupial. I will take U back to the Cambrian period (U brought it up, not me ) to show U some stuff that I even find more bizarre than ur marsupial. The earliest known ocular system known to man belongs to the Trilobites found in the Cambrian period .Tho the eyes are approximately 530 million years old, they as complex as the eyes found in bees and dragon fly today. From Darwin's theory , there had to be some intermediate or transitional forms of eyes before that of the Tribolites but as usual, contrary to Darwinism, the Tribolites already have eyes that are more complex than some of the eyes seen in wht U might call modern day animals. To make matters more interesting, prior to the eyes of the tribolites , no other animal during that era have been shown to have some form of a rudimentary eye. From fossil records ,it seems to me that creatures just appear abruptly and are already as complex as they can be once they appear. 15 responses Omo, I wish I had the time to really talk. I will come back when I am a little bit unoccupied |
Nairaland / General / Re: Happy Birthday, Mr. Charles Darwin by Finally: 1:11am On Feb 13, 2009 |
huxley: U can justify whatever u deem fit. Dont bug me one bit. Darwin's theory relied heavily on fossil records. His theory would be true if there were found transitional (or what Darwin called intermediate forms) littered all over the history. His theory would hold more credence if there was also a time differential in the appearance of these life forms on earth. Darwin stated that life forms started from the simple to the complex , meaning that there has to be a progressive gradation (from simple to complex) during evolution. Well, recent fossil discoveries are not compatible with these claims. Transitional life forms is now a mirage. A 250 million yr old fossilized dragon fly looks exactly the same like ur modern day dragon fly. Recently , an ant found in fossils over 100 million yr old looks exactly the same when compared with an ant living on modern day earth. If Darwin was right, a dragon fly would have morphed into something else or at least made some striking morphological and phenotypical changes over a period of a million years. The shark is particularly interesting. Not only does the fossil records bear a striking resemblance to the sharks that we have now but they have an uncanny ability to renew their teeth. In the tree of life, no ancestors of the shark were found to have that attribute. It just suddenly appeared. That is so contrary to Darwin's theory where there has to be a transitional state. Even Jean Lamarck's theory of use and disuse cant be used to explain that. Finally, about the time differential thingy. If Darwin was right, U would predict that most simple life forms and complex life forms would not co-exist in the same time frame or at least, fossil records would show that unicellular life forms were on this earth millions of years before multicellular life forms. Well, research from the deep sea have already come up with fossil records of some star fish whose C12 dating puts its age at about 400 million year old. These starfish have been shown to have all the complexity of a modern star fish and co-existed also with some very simple life forms. |

huxley: I dont know what is the relevance of these questions U have posed to the discourse at hand? Man to man inhumanity has been around for ages even before Darwin but I think that Horus point is that Man to man inhumanity based solely on race was enhanced by Darwin. That might or might not be true but u pointing out religious strife does nothing to the argument. |
Nairaland / General / Re: Happy Birthday, Mr. Charles Darwin by Finally: 12:25am On Feb 13, 2009 |
huxley: Darwinism cant even boast to be any better. Matter of fact , there are lot of loopholes in the theory of evolution than the creationist version. Darwin is a clever and ingenious man. He tried to explain the diversity of species without the luxury of genetics , molecular biology and biochemistry available to the modern day scientist. He based his conclusions just by merely observing. Observation can only get U to a certain point. At some point , U would want to put those observations to the test and Darwinism have not particularly stood up to scientific probe , not to talk of a religious one. |
Politics / Re: Gaddafi Wants Caribbean In Africa by Finally: 11:53pm On Feb 12, 2009 |
What is the difference bewtween the Africa we have now and the USAfrica that Mallam Ghaddaffi is proposing. Would a change of name, a central currency and possibly a central government resolve all the problems the continent is having? The corruption, bribery, the sit-tight attitude of most rulers etc. Me thinks not!!!!! Western democracy might not be the best for Africa. If Ghaddafi has a better form of government that might suit Africa, lets hear it. I hope he is not thinking about the one he is currently practicing in libya |

Gamine: According to Baro, the guy is the DVC for Academics in Uniben and by some hierachy (best known to Baro) , the DVC for Academics becomes the VC when and if the incumbent VC leaves. And to make matters soothing (at least to the Bini warlords) , the guy na bini guy. Actually, the name na Obaseki. But who cares |

Digiman: I will put on applause robe when I am sure of the said contraption. Is that too much to ask for? I would even admire his creative and imaginative ability the more if I understand a little bit about the source and the technology driving his "alternate energy" claim. How can I applaud something I absolutely have no clue of? Its not as if I have seen one of his invention zooming past me on the street. |
Car Talk / Re: I Made This Motorbike With My Bare Hands by Finally: 8:51pm On Feb 12, 2009 |
When U come with something as innovative as that, U should be willing to provide proof and also be ready to discuss technical details. If U dont want to go into all that much detail, then dont bother telling us about ur invention in the first place. What did U expect to get by putting up a pic like that. Just admiration, applause with no probing questions? Naaaaaaaaa, thats not the way Science and Technology works, my brother. |

@ Ola and (by Ola I dont mean bowale ) Why do U keep referring to people that dont neccessarily follow ur persuasions as evolutionist? That is so not fair. The way U intend to interpret the bible is entirely up to you but U should not expect everybody to agree with you. I personally dont subscribe with ur use of numbers to justify the authenticity of the bible and that does not make me less of a christian. The numbers 1 to 9 already have a pattern and so it aint rocket science when manipulation of numbers throws up certain patterns. Little wonder that even occult sciences like astrology and even tarot card readers use numerology to justify their beliefs. |

And how the 'ell did I suddenly become an ethnic supremo? U guys are saying "look @ the woman's ethnicity" and others are saying "look @ the woman's track records". I think I should be the one accusing U of tribalisim or even something worse than that. Maybe sexual discrimination |

okunoba: He is spot on, alright. Spot on wrong!!!! Czar's argument (and I presume urs) is built solely upon the ethnicity of the lady. I am yet to figure out what the real problem is ? Is it the fact that no bini has ever been the VC of Uniben or that the former VC and the acting VC now are both from the same ethnic group? |

Czarskit: This is the kind of posts that makes U wonder if the union called Nigeria is nothing but a mirage. And for this post to be coming from someone about to earn a Bsc (and a first class at that) even makes it more sorrowful. It just seems we are doomed. |

Baro: The same sentimental tantrum. U guys shoulda complained earlier when the woman was busy working her way up the academic rank. Student Union Govt, Uniben chapter welcomed it. The Univeristy of Benin management embraced it. However, some group by the name Concerned Edo citizens are threatening fire and brimstone. These guys are jokers. If they have nothing better to be concerned about, I will show them some. Lagos/Benin express way might be a good place to start. Buncha twats!!! |

Baro: My friend, a VC can be appointed from any rank of the DVC's . There is no hierarchy as U are purporting. ASUU, Uniben chapter even admitted as much,,,,,, But ASUU, UNIBEN, even though admitted that an acting vice chancellor could be appointed from the ranks of deputy vice chancellors, said the appointment of Gbenedion did not follow due process since the tenure of Gbenedion as a substantive deputy vice chancellor expired on Monday 4, August 2008. ASUU, Uniben chapter were complaining about due process but they are still to let us know what they mean by that. |

Baro: And the people of Jos started making faces and funny comments, abi? **osisi: Baro would not see that. He is only seeing that the woman is not Bini. Pathetic!!!! **osisi: That should not even have any bearing on the appointment. If it did, then I am screaming WOLF!!!! I dont care if the lady was/is married to one Mallam Amadu Gambari, if she deserves the position , let her have it. |

As long as the VC elect is the best qualified to handle the job at that time in question, who gives a shit where he/she is from. U guys should start saying something that makes sense and quit making circular arguments. I have told Baro and I am telling U this too, challenge the lady's competence and not her ethnicity. If there is a reason(s) to believe that other VC hopefuls were more competent and qualified than she is , lets hear it. If not , hold ur peace. |
Politics / Re: Benin Indigenes Rejects New Igbo Vc In Uniben. by Finally: 12:19am On Feb 11, 2009 |
Baro: Ur argument is intrinsically flawed. Are U going to make any Tom, manliness and Harry VC just to satisfy some narrow-minded folks? Show me another academician that is more qualified than the VC elect and I will start picketing right behind U. |
Politics / Re: Benin Indigenes Rejects New Igbo Vc In Uniben. by Finally: 12:04am On Feb 11, 2009 |
Baro: That is the huge misconception that led to the protest in the first place. I had always regarded Uniben as a Federal institution and I dont think that status has changed. Umaru Gomawalk was the VC of UNN for a number of years and nobody said a word. |

My point all along is Abia is just a representation, albeit in varying degrees of magnitude, to the decadence of the whole Nigerian union. That has not changed.
