PoliticsRe: Chinua Achebe: Why Nigerians Hate Igbo by fio(m): 4:42pm On Oct 20, 2012
[quote
author=obo_man]I would have to disagree with Achebe again on these
wrong claims because the facts doesn't support his claims.......

1.... he said, He observed that the Igbo culture’s emphasis on change,
individualism and competitiveness gave his ethnic group an edge over the
Hausa/Fulani man who was hindered by a “wary religion” and the Yoruba
man who was hampered by” traditional hierarchies.

Rubbish......

Individualism doesn't make a society strong, no great civilization,
past or present has thrived on individualism.... Great civilizations
thrive on Cooperation, values and respect.

Great civilization are better off doing things together, speaking with
one voice, standing together, and forming a great brotherly bond. From
Ancient Rome to Modern civilization, you see cooperation at work...

2..... How can a form of Hierarchy impede growth? With civilization
comes hierarchy, and an effective form hierarchy produces a great
civilization. Ancient Rome had senators, Emperors, and courts.
So hierarchy isn't always a bad thing as Achebe claimed..

3....IF the Igbos are that progressive and advanced as he claimed, why
can't we see its effects in the current South-Eastern states? Instead,
what we see in Igbo States are dilapidated infrastructures, and towns
riddled with crimes. Nigeria currently operates a federal system, and
over a 12 year period, no igbo state is doing above average. How can
Achebe make this bogus claim when Igbo governors aren't performing
extraordinarily better than their counterparts in other states?

Achebe, if your people did embraced Catholicism wholeheartedly as you
claimed, why OKIJA? A one time governor once killed a chief judge and
his wife in cold blood, and nothing was done to apprehend him!!!

4....Igbo's massive participation in slavery in the 18TH century, what
do you call that?

Prof Achebe, I will never say Yorubas are better either, because that
would make me non-objective, but I think you are wrong to say Yorubas
hate the Igbos because Igbos are advanced and progressive... I can't see
any advancement and progress that they possess that no other tribe
possesses...

If Yorubas and Fulanis hate the Igbos, It is because of your kinsmen's
greed, selfishness, diabolical love for money, and their pride..... All
these vile qualities I just
mentioned are quite alien to Yoruba communities, and the love of money
shouldn't be mistaken for ambition.

If Yorubas hate the Igbos, why do you feel so much at home in south
western states? You are allowed to own houses, set up businesses, and
even enjoy privileges most Yorubas don't enjoy.

So Prof Achebe, get your facts right! Leave America, come down to
Lagos, Ibadan and Ogun, and see how your kinsmen are having a good time.
You will also find your kinsmen attending best private universities you
find in Nigeria, in Yoruba states...

Prof Chinua, if you see that as hatred, then I'm sorry you are
wrong!!
this is true.......come to owode, offa, kwara state u'll see them smilling, selling, happy and safe. u'll se them everywhere, I mean everywhere.

[quote
author=nwabobo]Though what Achebe said is the truth, some things are
better not said especially by an elder statesman like him. Even since
the advent of democracyin 1999, every sane Nigerian will agree that most
of the ministries and parastatals that have performed creditably are
those under Igbo leadership especially our women. It's not out of place
to say that until Nigeria acknowledges the potentials of an Igbo led
leadership and tap into such, the country shall continue to grope in the
dark.
do u acknowledge the potentials in other tribe? NO....too proud......their should be mutual respect, if u wanna get, first learn to give.

holysmoke: yes
igbos can be arrogant, mischievous, loud and downright nasty. but the
truth must be told. they suffered a great injustice from the rest of the
country and nigeria should own up to it. I'm from Delta state and while
I do not claim to be ibo my sympathies often lies with them. let's be
honest, subjugation should always be resisted but who would you rather
be oppressed by? hausa/fulani or the igbos. I dare say that if igbos
had held the reins of power like the fulani have this country would have
experienced far more advancement on all fronts.
see the way u listed those characters as if it's nothing(off-course, it means nothing to u), don't u know pride come before destruction....their is no injustice

PoliticsRe: Is It Too Late For Nigeria? by fio(m): 11:23am On Oct 09, 2012
Onlytruth: It is not too late, YET, for Nigeria, provided the following is done as soon as possible:

(1) The federal government of Nigeria MUST tender an unreserved apology to Ndigbo and Eastern Nigerians; pay compensations (even if as tokens) where applicable.

(2) The federal government should accept and declare that Eastern Nigerians had the right to secede when they did, and that the response by the federal government was disproportionate and irresponsible. A singular act of removing Ojukwu from his position as governor of the East should not have been turned into a war against the East.

(3) The federal government should organize a period of mourning (at its own discretion) for all the innocent children starved to death in Biafra.

(4) The federal government should try ALL perpetrators of war crimes during the civil war, even posthumously. Those convicted must be put in jail; stripped of national honors (where applicable). The jailing is VERY IMPORTANT to forestall a repeat in the future.

(5) The federal government should organize a SNC to restructure Nigeria ASAP.

(6) The federal government should adopt a new constitution which, among other recommendations, must acknowledge the supermacy of Nigerian citizens over any other state power. This means that the citizens must retain the right to demonstrate (even violently) when government is no longer catering to the desires of the citizens. The citizen groups must also retain the right to secede should they follow a certain laid down procedures clearly outlined in the new constitution.

The list is adhoc, but all intelligent people in Nigeria would know that if we implement it, Nigeria will have a sure future.

Here I stand!

PoliticsRe: Jonathan: Fear Of The Unknown Forces Nigerian Leaders To Stay In Office by fio(m): 10:13pm On Sep 27, 2012
Biggyd2: Why Nigerian leaders refuse to leave office -Jonathan •As Blair, Rice counsel him

PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan, on Wednesday, advanced the reason many Nigerian political leaders fight to sit tight in office, saying that it was because of their fear of the unknown.

He, however, said the electoral reforms embar-ked upon by his admini-stration would continue to ensure that the choice of the people emerged at elections.

President Jonathan disclosed this at a breakfast meeting on the Nigerian economy, organi-sed by the African Business Roundtable in New York, United States.

Addressing the audience, which had former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair; former United States Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice; inter-national investors and captains of industry from Nigeria, President Jona-than said Nigeria had numerous problems, add-ing that his government had decided to prioritise its options, in order to deal with the challenges systematically.

“We are totally committed in solving our problems. We started with the electoral process and we have demonstrated our commitment in sanitising that system, because when the people put you there, you will be committed to serving them

“I was ready to lose the election if Nigerians did not want me. If I was ready to be disgraced out of office to sanitise the system, that is to tell you I am ready to sanitise the system to bring about investments in our country,” he said.

He assured the investors that he would ensure the investment environment was sanitised to attract investors and create jobs for the teeming youth in the country.

President Jonathan promised to carry the Nigerian people along in the governance process, though he conceded that it was not possible to involve all in the administration of the country at the same time.

Blair, speaking on the occasion, urged Nigerians not to always accept the stance of the opposition on issues, as they were not speaking for the majority of the citizens but a few vested interests.

While urging for support for President Jonathan, the former British leader lauded his effort to reform the political and economic sectors of the country, which, he observed, was a difficult but necessary thing to do.

Citing the case of the deregulation of the down-stream sector of the petroleum industry and other critical areas, he told the president that this was a moment of opportunity and, therefore, he must have the courage to proceed with the planned economic reforms.

Blair said with what was going on in Nigeria, the country was on its way up, noting that once Nigeria was on its way up, it meant Africa was on its way up.

In her contribution, Ms Rice observed that for the first time, news emanating from Africa had turned from the negative issues such as AIDS, famine and wars to positive news about opportunities existing in the continent.

She congratulated Jonathan for his efforts at repositioning the country and advised on critical areas of responsibility which must be fulfilled in order to realise the potentials of the country.

dlex21: there is fuel scarcity and Ejiro has successfully broken into a warehouse containing 14kegs all filled with fuel.
Six of these kegs contain kerosene and the rest contain petrol.
Each keg contains five liters of fuel and is completely sealed.
If all the kegs are identical with no way of identifying which contains petrol or kerosene,
What is the minimum number of kegs that Ejiro must steal for him to be certain that he has at least 10litres of kerosene in his possession?

NOTE: answer with explanation o!!!
petrol(P)=8, kerisine(K)=6, EACH KEG CONTAINS 5LITRES, 10L OF KEROSINE MEANS U'RE LOOKING FOR 2KEGS OF KEROSINE. THE PROBABILITY IF STEALING A KERISINE= P/K+P =6/14=3/7. The mathematical expectations = 3/7 x 14 =6. Therefore u must steal minimum of 6kegs when to be sure u've stolen one (K) and 2 x 6= 12,........ 12kegs to be sure u've stolen 10L of kerisine.

I believe paradox is a statement that contradicts itself, but is nevertheless true!!! Note: i am not argueing,i just want you to educate me....
because every thing on earth has limit, think about it, thats why we have time, space weight, force. The hardest substance on earth can be cut and made into any shape(diamond). Their is nothing so heavy that cannot be displaced by a force and their is no force so strong that cannot be resisted by another body, this idea continues till infinity, the heavier the force the more greater the force it attracts or the more greater force it requires to overcome it and the higher the strength of the force the greater the force that will stop it. In this world there are 3 categories of force: stronger force, equall force and weaker force. For example, if a block is too light for u to push, try pulling down a wall and if a wall is too heavy to pull down, try using a bulldozer agint it.

vicksbaba: Its no more BODMAS it is BEDMAS, were the "E"represents exponetial....and sometimes PEDMAS...where "P" represents parenthesis....the only reason why you can us "of" as multiplication is when you have of stated......of example, 10*2of 52(2+3) you use the function of "of" as multiplication............ Any way there are two approaches......using the Bedmas and using the direct line function.....direct line function is solving a mathematical question in form a number line.......assuming that numbers follow in sequence...e.g........1,2,3,4,5,.......to infinity in direct line method, all numbers follow in sequence by addition...so addition is a function that must come first............
using BEDMAS,
10+10*0+10
=10+0+10
=10+10
=20

using direct line method.......
10+10*0+10
recall dat addition must beconsideredfirst, but we can't add 10+10....the first two numbers, becos the second number is attached to another function (multiplication)....add the numbers that have no other fuctions except the addition functions....ie the first and last 10's in the question
10+10*0+10
=10+10+(10*0)
=20+0
=20
