They fund many wars to get cheap resources. Next they will put a base in Nigeria just like they are doing in liberia. When will us Africans wake up? Stop letting mainstream media tell you lies!! manchy7531: in the name of fairness and true unity sakes i will want the presidency to move to the south east after jonathan.the north must wait.if at all they have any good leader, such leaders are needed at their state level first because they will impact more on their people than at the presidential level.the likes of ribadu, sanusi,el rufai should go and govern their states, lift their people out of the chains of illiteracy, diseases and idleness.then they can come for presidency. As for the south east obviously rochas okorocha(imo state governor) stands out with a ribadu as his vice,if am to chose my candidates.giving the presidency to the igbo/SE will go along way in healing the wounds of the civil war and make them truly feel they have been accepted back into Nigeria and they will have no reason to agitate for biafra again.IMO,What Nigeria needs most now is unity, patriotism and tolerance.with that will will be able to speak with one voice as a people and then we will be able to fight corruption, tribalism and injustice.

That is my take
my friend, tribalism can't solve tribalism. What we need is a good and competent leader, regional rotation of presidency won't do us good. What we need is unity, to rise above tribalism.

EducationRe: Osun Distributes Computer Tablets Of Knowledge For Test-running by fio(m): 5:30pm On Jun 12, 2012
Kobojunkie: This is an initiative? Really? What these kids, and tax-payers now need is for Government to spend already limited resources, not on IMPROVING EDUCATION ITSELF but purchasing Laptops for each and every student? So giving out about 100,000 tablets, bought with tax-payer money, is now considered an initiative?

How long is this "INITIATIVE" going to last?

I am 100% for improving our education system, and getting our students up to speed technology-wise, but this is no way to go about it, especially when we consider the resources are not unlimited. Purchasing computers for students in a crappy system will not do anything to actually improve the system. Only you will have students with expensive computers, still locked in to a crappy education system.

If we must introduce technology, states that have the funds are overdue for a library system. Studies from all over the world have shown that having well equipped libraries to cater to students of all levels, helps not only equip but motivate students.
100 percent for educational development?? I don't think so. when u're not happy with this little, can't we just stop critisizing our leaders. Honestly, not only about education alone but if we continue this way, forget about nigeria's future.........please try and be happy for once. What's ur biz with tax payers money?? These students, principal and other staffs are happy coz it'll improve educational standard, that's all that matters

LeoMax: No one can afford to remain tribal. Tribalism has kept Nigeria on one spot for so long. So far, I havent seen any rounded and truly principled person I can vote for. I votedd for GEJ because he was not the regular politician we know, and having paved the way for other complex situations to be known, we need a radical change of course after his tenure is over. For now, I guess there is nothing Tinubu can tell me to vote for him after so much money has been stolen by him in Lagos, and who ever is forming an alliance with Tinubu is committing a political suicide. I really wanna see new crop of politicians devoid of state of origin, religion or geopolitical zone. I recommend people like Sanusi, Aligo Dangote, Ngozi Iweala, Barth Nnaji
shine ur eyes, this is politics we need intelligent people.

rhymz: you sound so angry like somebody is trying so hard to discredit the message of your propagander. As long as Ekiti is a rural state, all that big talk about industrilization and big ticket projects for now is not in their reach. While you are busy thinking elementry like the cretins in governments are doing, some serious minded societies have the development of their agro industries to swell their GDP, FDI opportunities and used it as a launch pad to attract the needed developments and funds for big ticket projects that attract both FDI and investors. And yes thesame mistake made by some northern states that concentrated all her efforts on building every road in the states can be replicated in Ekiti state if his only plan with the state's very limited resources is majorly concentrated on building and repairing roads in the magnitude that will sap other sectors of needed funds. Abi you think say na paper im go take pay for the "Huge construction site im dey talk about ni?"
By the way, what exactly do you think agro allied industry is? Just shut up if you don't know what it is all about.
please calm ur nerves down, read through the news again, did he say he will focus on only building project?? He's left with roughly 3 more years, don't insult me or the government. PLEASE HAVE U DONE WHAT I ASKED U TO DO??
PoliticsRe: Fayemi: Turning Ekiti Into A Huge Construction Site. by fio(m): 9:33am On May 06, 2012
rhymz: trust me bro, the roads in Abia states are death traps, more annoying is the fact that unlike Ekiti state that evidently do not have much funds at her disposal, Abia state in comparison has a way better financial prospectus yet has nothing to show for it. That is why it is important these days that governmnt spends money on projects that can generate economic activities. For instance, instead of wasting resources building federal roads that will only end up in an ownership dispute with the FG, funds should be channeled to intercity roads that link communities with potentials for agro allied industries, build more link roads to market places and towns. They should support the efforts of local farmers and heavily subsidize their cost. Government can actively start a campaign geared at attracting known local business men from the state and neigbouring states to invest in the burgeoning agro allied industries. They should find a way to exploit and highlight the areas where they can actually compete favourably with others. Building of roads is no doubt a good thing but it should be tied to a strategic importance else they might end up in thesame quagmire like many nothern states with enviable roads all over the place but little serious human and economic activities.
Seriously state governments need to start first with investment from the people of the state before looking out, that is the best way to attract others. Businesses bring other businesses.
please go and read your elementary agric. Science and list out the problems facing agriculture in west africa, before talking about business and agro whatever. OGA OO!

PoliticsRe: Fayemi: Turning Ekiti Into A Huge Construction Site. by fio(m): 7:28am On May 06, 2012
rhymz: I agree with you as well but I just feel development in this 21st century should go beyond building and repairing roads. In fact, instead of just building roads, government can tie infrastructural development to their strategic importance to a particular sector where the state has comparative advantage. Giving the fact that the state is highly dependent on the pittance from Abuja, it can not afford to be embarking on projects that, yes are good but realy are not economically expedient. Like Kobo said, if transporting materials, goods and services have not been shown to be a major problem in the state then Ekiti state government giving their very lean pocket do not have any business "converting the state to a huge construction site". They should be more focused on projects that will have the needed effect on stimulating economic activities and attracting investors to the state. There is too much politics these days in the claims of road construction by state government that it gives the wrong impression that constructing roads is the biggest challenge to improving the economy and attracting investors.
If u're the governor where will u start from?? We are talking about rural community u're talking about 21st century. Tell me how to stimulate economic activities without providing basic needs in a rural community, what can stimulate economic activities apart from infrastructures and securityhuh
PoliticsRe: Fayemi: Turning Ekiti Into A Huge Construction Site. by fio(m): 6:57am On May 06, 2012
Kobojunkie: Your claim that mentality, vision and the rest differ between North and South, is not so evident. Again, the fact is the decay in Nigeria spreads across all regions, so I beg to differ.

Our concern should be that the limited resources we have today should not again be wasted on projects that at the end of the day yield NOTHING, something we have become used to at this point. Criticize him/poke at his work/examine every step of the work that is being done . . . that is what you ought to do as a citizen in this democracy, as by doing so, you help ensure that the mistakes of the past are not repeated and the futures of your children, and their children will not continue to be flushed down the toilet.
If at the end of the day, it is business as usual, guess whose fault it really would be? Not his, but yours, that is how democracy is designed to work. At the end, the people only get what the people ask for and deserve.
let me correct u, road projects are not waste of money, provision of infrastructures are neccessary but, because they can't provide yield don't mean u shuldn't do them(infrastructures don't provide yield, they provide happiness). Before u can do something that brings yield or employment u, must take care and eliminate little problems first. LIKE I SAID LET'S SEE WHERE HE WILL GO FROM HERE, DON'T LET US ASSUME ANYONE'S FALIURE, THIS IS ANOTHER PERSON.
PoliticsRe: Fayemi: Turning Ekiti Into A Huge Construction Site. by fio(m): 10:06pm On May 05, 2012
Kobojunkie: So far Ekiti has not had any problems delivering agricultural goods to the market, so I don't think you can argue that the state has terribly bad roads that have hindered it's development.

And I am sure you have also read someone mention that the previous governor also invested in road constructing the very same state as well. So I don't think terrible bad roads is what ails that state at this point in it's development.

If good roads contributed as much, as you presume, to attraction of investors, then do you not think that states up north, many of them with some of the best road conditions in the country as a whole (since the last 20 years at least) would be seriously developed at this point?? undecided undecided Most of these states have roads that are rarely used given that the vast majority of the population cannot even afford cars of their own.

How long are you going to cross your fingers while the same old tactics continue being applied with the same old results at the end of the day, rinse-and-repeat? For pete's sake, road construction projects are not worth considering achievements especially in a country where every administration seems only to focus on that and not much else, while the local economy continues to decay.

I believe in Nigeria too but I don't believe in beating at the same old rock that has failed time and time again, expecting magic to make things work at the end of the day.
u're right, but such development is not something we can ignore. ekiti road is a problem, only those living there can testify. Simply bcoz someone has done it and failed doen't make is own case inevitable too, U made mention of the North, u see, mentality, vission, future expectations differs a lot among our leaders(expecially north and south), our concern should be where he will go from there before we start critisizing. @ LEAST HE IS DOING SOMETHING, WHAT IF HE LOOTS INSTEAD?

PoliticsRe: Fayemi: Turning Ekiti Into A Huge Construction Site. by fio(m): 9:02pm On May 05, 2012
Kobojunkie: 85% of deaths in Ekiti? How did you ascertain that this is most definitely the problem in Ekiti?

Not saying even remote areas do not need roads, but when you have very very limited resources, you have to be prudent in what you use em for. Road projects are no solutions to economic problems, and they are certainly not going to bring jobs in to Ekiti, in case anyone is thinking to say that next.

Just a quick trip back to the past, states like Ondo, Oyo, Ogun and much of Kwara also had fairly good roads(especially when compared to the not so good roads in places like Bendel state etc. However, those good roads did not bring in needed development, as people still had to go outside of the state to get their goods and services.
For example, the Ogun state that you know today was open even back BUT 30 years later, the state is struggling to bring in well needed development. Is it because the roads to Ogun are bad? Balderdash . . . it is because the State hasn't really worked hard at developing it's economy as it did back before the 80's. Ogun used to be the state that would compete with Lagos.
I MEAN 85 PERCENT OF DEATH IN NIGERIA. Thank God someone in this thread mentioned agriculture as a way of providing jobs and improving the economy of ekiti, but how would run agriculture without providing good roads.....but don't also forget that someone in this thread also opposed industries in ekiti, so tell me how u will create employment. Don't also forget that good roads are one of the factors that attract investors(both local and foreign), electricity which is also a factor. You know each state, nation has her own development tactics or strategies, why not let us cross our fingers with hope that something good comes out..I BELIEVE IN NIGERIA.

Coefficient: Third post? Nah! But hey I'm not asking anyone to share my views. I know you're from Ekiti and am from there as well. Ado-Ekiti precisely. I'm not asking for a magical transformation either but am saying priorities have to be set and gotten right. Let's start with the basic and not vague endeavours. What need is there for turning governor's office to a hotel? Pray tell. And that building is right near the government quarters! Where's the sense security in that? Ado-Afao road is in deplorable state and so many others like that I don't have time to mention. The township dualisation has been as Fayose left it, no significant progress. The road leading to UNAD/EKSU has only one part completed. There have been two governors after Fayose oh. Infact, a lot isn't right with the administration in Ekiti right now. But then there's room for improvisation but let Fayemi get things right and not a wild goose chase with non-viable projects. I can't say it all but I hope he does something significant soon before he's booted out like his predecessors. And like I said earlier, I'm no apologist of any governor or party but whoever is at the helm of affairs should do the right things.
God will save Nigeria, u people critisized this man when he said etiki needs an airport and suggest he makes neccessary infrastructures like water supply, road and rail road connecting to kwara, u people are critisizing again for road project....what shuld he do nahuh? A least it's better than looting the money like most of ur leaders do.
