Travel / Hawaii Residents In Here? by Fiveseventy: 10:24pm On Oct 24, 2013
Hey Guys,

I have been on the Big Island for the past 3months and I have met no Nigerians. This is my last week in Hilo and I will probably spend another week in Oahu. So I hope to meet someone/people; maybe for lunch/picnic or a brief social chat over a cup of tea. 2years on the road now and I have missed regular interaction with my Naija people and Africans.

Please feel free to message me smiley

Where are those people that were prasing Nigerian Lawyers? We should learn from the french prosecutors... The days of Abacha et al are gone. If we are to enfeeble corruption, we need more private individual/organisations to pressurize rather than waiting for the EFCC's and co.

obadiah777: HOW CAN YOU PEOPLE SAY NIGERIA IS BAD AND ANYTIME I SEE LINDA IKEJIS PAGE I SEE MALLS, people looking fresh and healthy and happy, lots of big cars everywhere, nice houses, people with lots of accesories like mobile phones and laptops and ipods and ipads, lots of opulent looking people who look fresher than people who live abroad, lots of stars making billions like p square tuface wizkid etc etc, americanied vibe, hotels going for $500 per night, houses going for 200 million naira etc etc. am i missing something ? someone help me out. oh and i see expensive looking boutiques, KFC, MACDONALDS, CHICKEN SHACK ( and all these companies are worth a couple of hundred million dollars each, i see lots of cycling clubs, i see lots of clubs with bikers, these cyclists and bikers meet up and ride around etc etc. very americanized. they have on all the bells and whistlles like the outfits and pads and cycling shorts etc etc like they do abroad. this all in naija. and yall say naija is bad ? help me somebody cuz i aint been in a while

True... but thats the life style of the middle class to the wealthy. Even in lagos, you start to wonder if Lekki and Ajegunle are in the same country! Then you leave the cities and still see villages with mud huts (in these modern times). African economies of the past like South Africa and Egypt seem to be in a league ahead of us. Life is harder for the common man, so you can't blame people who say 9ja is bad.

Toddlers of this generation may not remember any denomination below ₦50 when they grow up! CBN still doesn't realise that it's more than economics (mentality of carrying bigger notes has it's big damaging impact on our inflation). 20 years ago and buying a handful malta sweets, buttermint and bubble gum was possible with ₦1! Ordinary ₦10 made me look like a king's child in primary school.

Phones / Re: What Did Apple Really Invent? by Fiveseventy: 11:18pm On Sep 03, 2012
Rectangular screens with rounded corners was one of many cases that Apple brought forward!

And my point isn't that Apple copied, rather I am saying that the LG product will have a reasonalble case if they did decide to sue (based on the design alone sef). Irregardless of when Apple decided to introduce white.

You feel its okay for Apple to be inspired? But is it wrong to assume that samsung's resemblance was inspired? Please! It's irritating enough to be brain washed with how Apple introduces their 'revolutionary' devices. As if they never existed before they diversified into that market or became the first to introduce this feature and that.

texazzpete:

The first iPad didn't come in white. Rectangular displays isn't patented by anyone. Flat screens have been on monitors for decads. The iPad gets its name from the Apple 'i' prefix and 'pad'.

None of you can provide compelling proof Apple copied anyone...there's a big difference between being inspired by something and cloning that thing completely as Samsung did with the Galaxy S (ripped off design features from the iPhone 3GS)

It’s amazing how people bombard windows pcs like Macs were made by God. 4llerbuntu is definitely on point!

4llerbuntu:
NO, it is not true that the laptops you bought were of such a poor quality.
its that you are a very very rough person who habitually misuses his gadgets
you have a very low maintenance ability ...
Phones / Re: What Did Apple Really Invent? by Fiveseventy: 8:14pm On Sep 03, 2012
And it's no coincidence that Apple products mimic LG ipad with;
(i) A rectangular edged display
(ii) Navigational features like touchscreen gestures
(iii) Flat screen
(iv) 'IPAD' product name
(v) White outer body

...
Someone mentioned the Nokia-Apple Settlement but that was different! It was mostly based on hardware plagiarism (not just design). Besides Nokia tried to convincing Apple to pay loyalties for copyright. Whereas Apple came aggressively on Samsung.
Not to say that Samsung is guilt free, but Apple have always copied others. Recent acquisition of patents is the reason why they get away smiling.
Abrantie: If not for Apple's shameless lawsuits, most people would have never known Apple was the greatest copycat of all time.
Did you know LG had a tablet called "Digital iPad" back in 2001?
http://edge.alluremedia.com.au/m/g/2012/09/lgipad.jpg
Sure, it's not exactly the slick tablets of today but it was a tablet and even named "IPAD"

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Hating My Job. by Fiveseventy: 6:27pm On Aug 22, 2012
Personal Experience; I put up with a job related stress for 2years and eventually decided to resign. Its almost year since I embarked on an ongoing sabbatical trying to recover from multiple issues that sprung up in my personal & social life.

Advice; If your job is having a wreck on you mentally, it might be best to move on because your health is more valuable than that career or it's income.

Before you leap, reasess your objectives in life, qualifications & experience and financial position. Competition will always await you either way.

However, If you can financially afford living 1-2 years, take a sabbatical. Life is more than currency signs and digits. As Publius says

"Take rest; a field that has rested gives a bountiful crop."

Travel or take time to rediscover life and the opportunities out there because you are more likely to stumble accross your dreams when moving slowly.

Romance / Re: Does Love At First Sight Exist? by Fiveseventy: 1:00am On Aug 22, 2012
You didn't get the joke. Am saying that 'I love you' is/has been a cliche for expressing interest in a stranger. Love at first sight doesn't necessarily only involve exchanging glances. It's also about social interaction/connection. Words or none! And it might not be both individuals who experience that feeling! SMH

Danka7777: You are missing the point, you don't have to be toasted to find love at first sight. Love at first sight simply means automatic attraction between two people without exchange of words! He sees her, she sees him, an you both can feel the effervescence of the attraction that exists between you too and need for compatibility.

WebSurfer: this got me laughing, @16, you are talking about 1st gf(probably have others by now), even thinking about sex, and the girl is known for sleeping around alot, that makes me imagine how old she is....
Why wont there be mass failure in WAEC?

Teenagers experiencing confusing physical changes isn't uncommon (if you didn't experience it). Yes I was a kid, but the passion can spring up at any age. Its isn't strange to see 16-18yr olds in the US and UK with kids and I do have friends who did even @ 15.

The post is about how far you would go, at that age fighting the temptation and resisting peer pressure shows how far I was willing to go.
Family / Re: Wedding In Absentia Using Pictures: Your Take by Fiveseventy: 11:36am On Aug 20, 2012
I have even heard of an engagement that took place in Nigeria even though both the bride and groom to be were in living London!

He was from South West and she was South South. I doubt if its a cultural thing to even conduct an engagement/wedding in the absence of either or both parties. It seems like a new generation thing thats meant to allow for flexibility and convenience.

Nothing is wrong with you and it's not spiritual. Neither is it a personal thing against you. Look at it this way; their walking away could have saved you a possible heartbreak.

Never rush youself into delicate things like relationships (though it may be very hard to remain single) You are 21! My advise - look good, carry yourself with high esteem and display a charming character always. Good luck!

Hmmm still a kid @ 16 yrs - not having sex with my first gf. Out of love, extreme regard and fear that it would influence her womanity massively, I never aggressively pushed for it. Unfortunately, she still became popular for sleeping around alot.

Good news for you. I will be in NZ too, so if you are open to a starbucks chat, send me a message. Would be in Auckland and I hear there are very few African's. Thought it will be nice to interact with the few that I can possibly come accross.

Hi guys,

I will be in NZ for a few months to a year, so I am hoping to interact with nairalanders there. No business/financial motives involved, purely socializing only.

Male, female, young or older don't matter so far as you're honest, friendly and responsible.

Send a message if interested.

Travel / Re: Nigeria Embassy In Atlanta by Fiveseventy: 7:43pm On Aug 13, 2012
Atlanta office surprised me too! I was there on Aug 7 and recieved my passport over the weekend on August 13!

Initially, I worried because I didn't use tracking on a regular priority mail envelope (prepaid). Heard the mail man and ran out to check for other mail this afternoon and it was sitting in the box.

I thought it had to be an illusion because my renewal in London back in '07 wasn't that convenient.

You see, on that trip to ATL, I had a chat with a few guys in the waiting room talking about government bureacracy, inefficiencies and Naija's problems. But am glad to see some positives abroad despite it all. Big up's to the Nigerian embassy staff in ATL.
