Richdee1: So these photos are from Calgary taken in August. I like to call this Museum and Albertan Rockies Edition. As usual i'll put some of the trips I made on my Youtube channel, if that's your thing. Enjoy https://www.youtube.com/c/CanadaWaka 1. Local Gas Pumps from the Heritage Park Gasoline Alley. The museum holds Canada’s largest collection of restored gas pumps on display and most of them are from the early 1900's. 2. Vintage Car 3. Tepee hut showcasing First Nation Heritage. Photo taken at the Glenbow Museum in Downtown Calgary. 4. Road to Banff. 10 Likes

Richdee1: So sorry for not getting back to you sooner. No one should make you feel bad for asking questions . I can tell you that those jobs are in need here and come in different forms. There may be some certs you may need to acquire. I know about getting a Standard First Aid with CPR and AED license. This involves a 2-day training. Check www.stmarkjamestraining.ca. I know someone who used them back in 2019. Taking a look at this link you'll agree yourself that there are jobs available: https://ca.indeed.com/Social-Worker-jobs-in-Calgary,-AB First and foremost get a plan for yourself if you are not yet here. Know all of the prerequisites needed to get you one of these jobs. Pay close attention too to the salaries in the link I posted. It may guide you to where you may want to focus. Obviously I don't have all of the answers for your line of work but I hope this helps. Cheers. 21 Likes 4 Shares |

oludolao: Both are cities I am very familiar with however to answer your question more context will be needed. Here's what I mean: Are you single? Are you asking for your family? What's important to you in your choice for where to stay? Calgary Personally for me I have a family and love quiet neighborhoods so in Calgary I chose to stay in the NW Quadrant. Neighborhoods like Sherwood, Evanston, Sagehill, Kincora, Nolan Hill, Carrington appeal to folks who want to stay away from the city center and lead quiet lives. The buildings are newer and more spacious. Of course, every neighborhood would have some sort of area that caters to your groceries and other amenities so you will find that you will be close to a lot of the things you need including schools, for your kids. For others that may consider their budgets and some other factors they make their choice based on those. NE Calgary has a reputation for having affordable accommodation but also has a reputation for being known for petty crimes. Now I can tell you that may not always be the case as some of those crimes are opportunistic and can happen anywhere. Because of this even decent Neighborhoods in the NE get a bad rep. SW is considered the most desirable and this is due to having some of its communities closer to downtown with more access to public transportation. Overall, NW tends to have newer communities, however you will need to own a vehicle to enjoy getting around at your pace. It caters very well to single individuals as well as families. If you are still vibrant and looking for that life of always going in and out, then consider getting somewhere close to downtown Calgary like the Beltline or East Village areas. Edmonton First and foremost, Edmonton can be likened to Ikeja and then Calgary to Abuja. These are cities both in the province of Alberta but different in make up and looks. Calgary is a world-class city and I say so without joking. It has repeatedly made the list of the most livable cities to live in every year. Edmonton has an older feel to it. It is bright in the summer (2 months or 3 if we are lucky) and then the winters are colder than Calgary. Calgary enjoys Chinook winds that make the winter days(some of it) tolerable. Edmonton is the seat of Government and a lot of its jobs come from the province. Calgary looks like a larger city and clearly benefited from being the Oil and Gas capital where a lot of multinationals are based. Edmonton is starting to build newer communities in areas just like Calgary however you DEFINITELY need a car and will help yourself by learning to either park at a park and ride then take the Bus or Train. Coming from Calgary, I found this tiring having been used to driving everywhere and getting parking relatively easier than I did in Edmonton. So my recommended neighborhoods in Edmonton based on my preferences would be: 1. Sherwood Park (some consider this on the outskirts but it's a 25 min ride to downtown) 2. Windermere (Lovely neighborhood, same time travelling to downtown Edmonton) 3. Oliver 4. University of Alberta areas ( If you are single and want to stay close to downtown) Jobs I find it odd that you are interested in where to live and not about Job prospects, looks like money is the least of your worries which is good Calgary has jobs but they are competitive. Why? Calgary is very cosmopolitan and has people from all of the world as residents. You're dealing with really smart folks all applying for the same Job. As this is the case, businesses thrive here. There are lots of opportunities. Edmonton while it may not be appealing to me, I have found to have even better paying jobs and I know as I have done business there in the past. However these days you can live in Calgary and do your remote job based in Edmonton and this is what most people are doing today. One thing I can say by concluding is no matter where you settle, you'll find really good Nigerians to help you settle. Do not neglect help from good Nigerians looking to genuinely help you. The help and assistance we all received as newbies here, we are looking to pay forward. As such most newcomers find it strange coming in from Nigeria that there are folks willing to do so much for you. They Understand as they've been there before. This weekend (tomorrow) I will be going on another road trip. It's the summer and this time I should enjoy the Alberta rockies. If it's your thing I'll post some pictures here. I'll also do a video of it and post on the YouTube Channel. Please feel free to ask more questions on here. I really hope this has helped. Cheers. 48 Likes 19 Shares |

legionISproteus: If you are married you'd know that this is not as easy as you make it sound. When you get I to Canada you'll understand. I wouldn't have been able so share this insight from Naija. But from my wealth of experience I'll repeat again. If you're a good Man/Woman be careful who you come with, notice I didn't say 'bring' down here to Canada. What happens is this is a totally different environment and within a month reality sets in to the demands of the Canadian Society. These demands don't go down to well with new Immigrants who struggle to cope. A word is enough for the wise. Have a plan work things out, agree on how to settle your differences. Most importantly if religion is your solace too, don't take it for granted. Once more guys here's my YouTube channel. Please let me know what you'd like to see me create videos of and I'll work to make it happen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FL5VzFCFdPs Instagram: @mycanadawaka Cheers. 8 Likes |

oluayebenz: Whenever I read about Agents and how much money people give to these guys I cringe. There should be ways to verify legitimate agents to spare you the trauma of having paid so much with nothing to show for it. You don't really need an Agent for anything. For all applications you need to make the steps are online somewhere, there are groups dedicated to such pursuits and then you really need to be honest with yourself on what your chances are. For instance you cannot be 45 for example and think you have a shot using Express Entry or trying to use school admission to get in. The chances are slim to none. So up comes an agent and tries to convice you otherwise and you spend that money and regret right after. Just searching online I found this: https://www.cicnews.com/2020/05/canada-announces-major-study-and-work-visa-change-for-fall-2020-0514355.html International students will be able to enroll in online courses while abroad this fall and still be eligible for a Post-Graduation Work Permit after moving to Canada. Your goal has to be clear: Do you want to get to Canada legitimately? Do you want to do it through schooling? Are you the right age? Have you also considered the Provincial route? |

SunshineD1: On the flip side too, men have stories to tell. My candid advice is as married couples whatever differences you have back home, please and please settle them thoroughly before coming here. A few words: 1. For the men, start getting used to doing domestic chores. No maid / house help here. I bathe my kids, get them ready for school when madam has to go to work early in the morning. She picks them up alternatively. Ego will ruin you ( both man and woman). Leave it behind. 2. Women will quickly learn a lot of laws were made here to defend them. Alternatively those same laws easily tear down marriages and it's not just African ones, a lot of Immigrants see their marriages hitting the rocks soon after coming here. 3. Some Ladies and NOT all please, usually love the idea of the benefits of living here in Canada, but hate the responsibilities that come with it. They still prefer the largess of living in Naija and not having to contribute towards getting things done financially. Why you may ask? Everyone is treated equally here. There is no problem in adopting our African values here if you and your spouse agree. But if the man cleans, cooks, etc then the lady should also contribute in her own way. While this isn't a standard, it might be seen as the sensible thing to do. This is often a slippery topic to discuss but trust me, settle yourselves, and have a written upon and agreed-upon code of conduct before you arrive. 4. Do not have arguments in front of your kids. My 5-year-old possesses a vocabulary to what I could muster at that age as over here they are taught to think independently and express themselves very well. 5. Do not punish yourselves when you have arguments. The police here will help you on the fast track of regrets. Of course, if there is a fear of harm, then please walk away. 6. Just how folks get marriage counseling before marriage, coming to Canada deserves its own session for families coming here. It baffles me when they just show up without any plan on how to Navigate this country. 7. I am still learning and have had to learn some of these lessons the hard way. Mostly by the experience of others and a few times personally. 8. This last one is hard for me to say. Most ladies come here on revenge missions and sadly it's due to some sort of perceived abuse from back home. You see, over here anyone is free to do as they want and if you're the controlling type you'll be in for a big surprise. Overall sha, use your tongue and count your teeth. Have a solid plan. Repair your marriage. Ask how things are over here. Assume very little. 32 Likes 9 Shares |

oscar4lyf: So I see this often posed as serious fact on many platforms that this easily happens. However, being here for almost 2 years has shown me a different reality. There isn't a shortage of qualified immigrants willing to take on these jobs however it is tough and there are protocols that should be met before looking outside the shores to hire internationally. And that is why it is very rare to find someone who told you they got a job from the Canadian Job bank. I would put more focus on looking for ways to get here and then get a job, of which they are many waiting to be filled. Here's an official link of information on hiring foreign workers and supporting their immigration to Canada. https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/work-canada/hire-foreign-worker.html Also, don't join the bandwagon of people who say jobs are hard to come by. This is a different country to what we are used to and it's no wonder things are also done differently. One key advice I'll give to aspiring immigrants and those waiting for the borders to open to come here is to learn how things work here. Don't take the newcomers' programs for granted. They are available for registration for a reason. Now if you haven't met the benchmark to come through Express Entry that's one thing entirely but now even more than before, Canada needs immigrants and is creating diverse ways to ensure people get in and help the aging workforce. It's best to ask yourself some key questions before leaving Naija and how best you honestly answer those questions will be to your benefit. Advice on Jobs: 1. Buy courses on MOOC platforms like Udemy and Coursera relevant to the field you're looking to work in. Finish those courses and package your profile with them carefully on LinkedIn. 2. If you've already gotten your CoPR and have bought tickets, change your location on LinkedIn to Canada. That way you can use the coming months before you arrive to build a solid network (This should not be underestimated). What we call Man-know-Man in Naija is also known as Networking here in Canda but without the Nepotism. Before you ask of Racism, Canada cannot be compared to the US, and overall how you carry yourself here professionally matters. 3. I got a job through my Naija network (WhatsApp Group). I swore I would come here and avoid some Naija entities but ended up meeting very well-behaved Nigerians here and through the group, a Job posting gave me my first job, paid way more than I ever got in Nigeria. A little percentage of us bring our razzness here, but they are easily put in place by well-meaning people. 4. If and when you ever get the chance to attend any interview here, please give it your best shot. These guys here love 'Packaging'. For every role you're trying to explain you can handle, please give relatable examples drawn from your previous experience or work from wherever you are coming from. 5. Give your first decent Job 6 months to a year before moving on to something more appropriate or what we Naija will call 'On our level'. Also do not despise humble beginnings here. I know this answer went off a bit from the original question but in a nutshell, these are my thoughts on Jobs and looking to come here to work. Both ways, these still apply. I have a YouTube channel now and I'll try to highlight in my videos some of the concerns here. If YouTube is your thing and you'd like to see more of Calgary, Alberta, and hear candid opinions to some of your questions, please Watch, Like, and consider subscribing to the Channel. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCo4NQWeyMHSvJS6rgO8aK3w Please feel free to reach out and ask any questions if Calgary is your destination of choice. Even if it's not I'll answer how best I can. 52 Likes 22 Shares |

It's been a while I have been here. I just thought to share some photos of my NW neighborhood of Calgary. The quarantine period allowed for quiet walks and reflections on how far I had come and where I actually am aiming to get to. I have been in Canada now for a year and a half and will attempt to answer any questions mostly regarding the cost of living, daily life, and job prospects especially in CALGARY. One thing I can say though is that it's been one hell of a ride. 1. Loblaws - Canadian Supermarket Chain 2. NW Street at Night around 10 pm and loved the light. 3. Lake Louise, Banff National Park. I did a road trip and took this shot of one of the most visited places in Alberta. 4. I don't know why I took this, to be honest. Pedestrian push-to-walk button. Oh and if Instagram is your thing you check out @mycanadawaka . That way you can follow some other people and network and ask relevant questions. This is not an advert. 24 Likes 2 Shares

I am in a similar situation, submitted on the 9th of July as well.. A friend waited 2 days after tracking showed passports had been dispatched from Accra. If you're waiting for a PUM or whatever it's called, VFS may not send. She went there anyway and the passports were ready. I'll be going on Monday to pick up. cheromel: 1 Like |
