PoliticsNational Assembly Plans Prayer To Avert Plane Crashes, Terrorism by fkaz(op):
The National Assembly will this month hold a prayer session to seek God’s intervention to end terror attacks and to avert more plane crashes in the country.
Chairman, Publicity Committee of the National Prayer Breakfast of the National Assembly, Senator Ita Enang, stated this at news conference in Abuja yesterday.
Enang noted that against the backdrop of a myriad of problems confronting the country as an entity, the national assembly is set to seek the face of God for spiritual solutions to the problems.
Enang, who is also Chairman, Senate Committee on Business and Rules, said the prayer session would focus especially on the unending security challenges ravaging the Northeastern part of the country over the last three years and other problems facing the country.
The National Prayer Breakfast is an annual event organised by the National Assembly to bring together Nigerians of all faiths, tribe and creed to seek the face of Almighty God for divine solutions to the myriad of problems confronting the nation.
He noted that the National Prayer Breakfast, with the theme: “God in the lives of national leaders for development,” would feature Pastor John Enelamoh, who would give the key note address to “help in pulling down all walls and vices blocking the growth of the nation in the right direction.”
He said: “The 2013 National Prayer Breakfast, seeks to build bridges of unity, national harmony and progress.
“Through the instrument of our faith, we prayerfully pull down all walls and vices that divide us as a nation and provoke the spirit of patriotism and love among Nigerians necessary to propel Nigeria to her rightful place in the comity of nations.”
He added that the prayer conference, which would have in attendance President Goodluck Jonathan, the leadership, management and members of the National Assembly with their counterpart in the judiciary as well as members of the diplomatic corps, would be spiritual avenue for God to guide the leaders of the nation right.
He said: “We hope that as every well-meaning Nigerian join us at the prayer conference, the prayer to God of all creation, to direct our noble cause, guide our leaders aright, help our youths to know the truth and build a nation where peace and justice reign, shall definitely be answered.”

PoliticsHow National Conference Should Be Held, By Awolowo Foundation by fkaz(op): 9:43am On Oct 09, 2013
With Monday’s inauguration of the national conference planning committee by President Goodluck Jonathan, stakeholders have said the proposed conference must not exceed nine months and not more than 400 delegates.
Participants at an executive leadership seminar, convened by the Obafemi Awolowo Foundation spoke on the conference in Lagos . They noted that the proposed conference can contribute to the creation of a viable Nigerian polity.
Tagged: ‘The national conference: Roadmap to Nigeria’s stability, the seminar was convened by the group’s Executive Director, Dr Olatokunbo Dosumu and chaired by Prof. Bolaji Akinyemi.
At the event were President, Guild of Editor Mr. Femi Adesina; Prof Ayandiji; Daniel Aina; Prof Princewill Alozie; Prof. Bolaji Aluko; Dr Chris Asoluka; Prof. Bukar Bukarambe; Mrs. Ayo Obe; Prof Ayo Olukotun; Dr. Tunde Oseni; Prof. Akin Oyebode; Prof. Itse Sagay and Alhaji Yerima Shettima.
Praising the President, the participants noted that the Senator Femi Okurounmu-led committee was skewed against the youth, who will have to live with the consequences of the decisions to be taken on the confab.
A communique signed by the participants recommended that 90 per cent of the suggested 400 delegates to the conference should emerge through an election on non-partisan basis from the ward to the zonal levels and 10 per cent nominees of professional bodies, trade unions, civil society organisations, youth/students, women and pan-Nigerian religious bodies.
They said the draft constitution that will be produced should be subjected to a national referendum not later than three months after the end of the conference.
“There should be no ‘no-go’ areas in the course of this national discourse. The fact that people are not restricted will enhance frankness of discussions as well as greater acceptability and respectability of the conference outcome.
“The conference should address true federalism as established by the founding fathers, with emphasis on granting the federating units room to develop competitively at their own pace.
“It should be channelled to build a more tolerant, egalitarian and prosperous modern state with a constitution that emphasises the protection of individual rights.
“The present state structure should be reconfigured to more manageable and sustainable units.
“The outcome of the conference should address and lay appropriate emphasis on the needs and aspirations of the Nigerian people,” participants said.

Dangote plans $34.7bn fresh investment in economyon October 08, 2013 at 12:40 am

By NAOMI UZOR
The President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, has said that the Group is poised to make an additional investment totaling $US 34.7 billion in the economy by 2017.
He also said the cement arm of the group will commission an additional 10 million metric ton capacity in Nigeria by mid 2014 with an additional plan to also invest US $4.7 billion over the next four years in order to ensure that cement supply stays ahead of demand.
In a keynote address during the just ended Nigeria’53rd Independence Anniversary Lecture, organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, Dangote said, the Nigerian financial sector has demonstrated its ability to support big ticket industrial projects – the most recent being the US$9 billion refinery project by Dangote Group and is poised to invest $US 34.7 billion by 2017.
“Private sector participation is growing in areas such as fertilisers, petrochemicals, etc. “Indigenous entrepreneurs now dominate some sectors that were at inception controlled by foreign firms, federal and state government, namely, financial services, cement, petroleum marketing; the upstream oil & gas sector,” he said
Continuing, he said: “Agriculture continued as the lifeblood of the economy (accounting for 65 percent of GDP and 70 percent of exports).
Cocoa, cotton, groundnuts, oil palm products, and rubber were the principal export crops in the 1960s (and early 1970s). Agriculture largely provided the foreign exchange that was utilised in importing raw materials, capital & consumer goods; as well as funding basic infrastructure needs. Food security was achieved – not just because peasant farmers were able to produced enough to feed the entire population (but also because Nigerians had not yet developed the palate to consume what they did not produce.”
Dangote said in setting an agenda for the next decade, government should improve the business climate and continuously benchmark our business environment against “best-in-class” investment destinations, implement the recently unveiled Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan, support the new investors in the power sector to ensure they “hit the ground running” and provide the kind of outcomes Nigerians desire.
He said their investment in agriculture is driven by our desire to create jobs for thousands of Nigerians and that It will increase their workforce from its present level of 26,000 employees to 750,000 employees .

papparatzzi2013: What we need is SNC and the final ratification must be through referendum and not the the hopeless clueless and empty headed National Assembly that cannot pass PIB bill for 4years but can pass anti-gay bill under 1hour.

The civil societies, media and cultural groups have a lot to do. They need to start sensitizing people now. Let us create a force and movement that any politician cannot and will not be able to use it for their own interest. Be it lamido or Buhari or atiku or tinubu and even GEJ.

This should be strictly be about the people and for the people and by the people process. The people are not NA members, therefore ratification of outcome of the talk must not be done by NA. We did not vote some of the members into the NA. Some of them bought the slot, some of them killed to have the slot and some of them simply stole the slot.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity and let us do our bit by sensitizing people around us. Let the wave start from our closet.

You can be rest assured the north will be out to scuttle it. If they can't. They will be out to ensure that NA will be the one to ratify, where they will intend to use their numerical advantage to derail it or they will just for the conference to forment trouble and ensure no head way is achieve.

Our leaders therefore need to be wary of the attitudes of some trouble makers and should therefore be well prepared to tackle such elements with much diplomacy, finesse, superior argument and subtle threat if need be.

Most specifically, there should be no-go area of discussion. Everything must be laid on the table. Simple.
Thumbs up
